The Battle of Nagashino took place in 1575 near Nagashino Castle on the plain of Shitarabara in the Mikawa Province of Japan. Takeda Katsuyori attacked the castle when Okudaira Sadamasa rejoined the Tokugawa, and when his original plot with Oga Yashiro for taking Okazaki Castle, the capital of Mikawa, was discovered.

Uau, I'm glad to know that. Kkkkk, so stupid.
Fun fact:
This is the first battle in Japanese history where guns were used in a wider scale battle.
Also the first battle where 3 row-firing was performed to enhance fire rate.
also, the battle took place after raining because Takeda Katsuyori assumes that gunpowders would be too wet to use. Well, he was wrong...
@@kelvindude9534 perhaps, but it seems that Nobunaga was the one who put that strategy to the best use. Besides, even if Ming did make the 3 row firing strategy, why isn't there any cool or important battles about it before Nagashino? Or at all
@@amandag.6186 Apparently the document that purports volley fire for this battle wasn't a reliable one and done well after the date. I think the Oda retainer documents state that it was just massed fire behind palisades with spears next to each gunner (think spear, gunner, spear), not necessarily volley though. That being said, Korean documents did state that volley fire was used by the Japanese in the Imjin War.
@@dundun3687 That last part is important because it proves that the japanese probably developed the 3 row firing strategy sometime during the sengoku jidai.
The imjin war was shortly after that period so its very possible that this battle did use the method, or that it was made sometime shortly after.
Unfortunately Katsuyori is not as astute as his father Shingen.
this felt like a real battle, even from the records. The heat waves, the dust particle effects, the momentum, the shouting, the animation, the cinematics, the tactics (mostly), felt all so real. Best video on this channel even though it shows my favorite clan getting wrecked! ❤
A soldier fights not because he hates what in front of him,but because he loves what he left behind.
"And hatred born to protect love"
Yeah butt not by encouraging waste of horses and pikes. The battle presentation is awesome, it's really interesting. On the other hand i can beat the player any day on Shogun.
That's false for most of history.
I heard that quote from somewhere before
I don’t really remember where
Romans: I don't think so
takeda: we have the best cavalry in all of japan
oda: *sips sake* hold my matchlock
*Shogun II Battle Animations is one of the best in all of the total war games/franchise!*
agree
To be a part of this in real life, a level of martial prowess and bravery unseen today. No man in these times has stood in ranks and gone at each other blade to blade.
In a sense. Some gangs stand together and against their enemies, blade to blade.
@@naebhor6931 Not on the same scale, nor the same skill I believe. There is a difference fighting trained soldiers as opposed to just lunatics with a machete.
It feels like only yesterday, when I heard Oda’s castle burned down.

Oda nobunaga was one of the best war strategists in the world my opinion
at the time atleast
He was one of the most innovative and brutal in the sengoku period, almost like a Japanese napoleon
And he could bust a move to
For his time, yes. He was definitely a genius on the battlefield.
He was bested by uesugi Kenshin when he lured Nobunaga to attack his weaker force then opened the damn and flooded odas army
Wow! I read a book about this battle before! It was a showdown between [Takeda Shingen's son and a powerful cavalry] VS [Oda & Tokugawa with 3,000 guns]!
In the history book, Shingen's son lost three captains and 12,000 soldiers.
(In fact, horses and guns were very precious in Japan at the time, so most of them would be false except for the fence.)
Anyway, I really like these historical battle videos, too! Shogun 2's detailed movement fits well with your shoot! Happy Halloween!
Shingen's son was Katsuyori Takeda. Oda was allied with Tokugawa Ieyasu and Shinobi ( Ninja ) Hanzo Hattori and Nagato Fujibayashi.
There werent actaualy 3000 guns there where 1000 guns and 2000 bows and its still debated if they used volly fire.
>>seojin Park
What is your evidence that all but the fence is a lie?
In fact, it is a historical fact that Takeda's cavalry, which was invincible at the time, was destroyed in this battle, and many of his vassals who had followed him since his parents' generation were killed in battle. Considering the fact that the Oda and Tokugawa armies were not considered to be very strong at that time, it can only be considered as a "victory by mass use of guns.
@@aburakadabura2 I used a translator. I apologize for a little misrepresentation!
In a book titled 『信長公記』 written during the Edo period, it is said that the Oda & Tokugawa Allied Forces defeated Katsuyori Takeda's cavalry with 3,000 guns and killed 12,000 people.
1. The battle of Nagasino occurred for eight hours. How many shots can 3,000 catchers shoot? Up to 10 shots. (Bullets are expensive) Then the Allied Forces shot a total of 30,000 shots.
At that time, the accuracy of the gun was 15-20%, and if you estimate 33% to the maximum, 20,000 shots will be missed. The Japanese research team discovered only 12 bullets in battlefields. This means that they don't use guns much.
2. There are not enough gunpowder. At that time, a "saltpeter;KNO3" mine, the main ingredient of gunpowder, was also found in Japan, but production was very small. Saltpeter was found only in India, South America, and China.
In addition, gunpowder is expensive and guns are equivalent to the salary of a general soldier at that time. So the Japanese research team estimated that 500 to 1,000 guns were used.
3. The tombstone around the fence is the evidence.
The 2km fence has actually been discovered and is true. 500m away from the fence, there is a monument to the combat dead. Usually, a tombstone is erected at the location of the dead.
At that time, it was difficult for a gun to hit an enemy of 100m. So to get it right, the soldiers would have fired around 20m of the fence. American Civil War is the first war to show effective shooting at a distance of 50m against cavalry, using "riffled-barrel gun; riffle." So the 500m tombstones are monuments to commemorate the soldiers killed by cold weapon.
If the monument was to be erected for the catchers, it would have to be built close to 20m of the fence.
@@aburakadabura2 At that time, Kofukuji's monk wrote a book about the Battle of Nagasino. The book says, "Katsuyori Takeda's army killed 1,000 people." Currently, his book is considered objective by Japanese historians.
However, it is true that three commanders died. In the end, the death of 12,000 people expressed that Takeda's army fought desperately.
Also, Takeda's cavalry is likely to be false.
Not only at that time, but also Asian horses were generally small. Mongolian horses are similar to the height of a child. And ranches in Japan are not enough to have cavalry units. In addition, there are small horses and many mountains, so strategic management is difficult. In addition, there is no record of cavalry in the history books of the Takeda clan!
The Battle of Nagasino will be a battle to announce the use of guns representing high economic power at the beginning of Japan's modernization. However, strategic battles using guns are almost impossible, and no similar battles have occurred since this battle.
The cause of Takeda's army's loss may be Katsuyori's strategic judgment and Nagasino's topography.
The advantages of Takeda Shingen are 'fast terrain reconnaissance' and 'accurate identification of the situation'.
However, Katsuyori couldn't keep up with his father's strengths. By commanding all the troops, he failed to prepare for the Reserve formation.
As you know, Nagasino Castle is a tremendous castle. There is a perfect castle with a gun-using monk, a river behind it, and a mountain in front. The 500 troops there embarrassed Katsuyori enough. In addition, Katsuyori completely ignored the saying, "I have to fight in the terrain I want," since the battle began where the enemies were ready.
Of course, the judgment up to this point is only 'SPECULATION', but don't think it's real!
Of course, the story of "Triple shot" in the 16th century comes from Europe in the 16th century, but it's not surprising. Bow or crossbow also used 'triple shot'. Triple shots show efficiency in narrow terrain or dampen enemy morale, but if 3,000 people stand in three rows, the layout area will not exceed 500m. In the end, if Takeda's soldiers attack next to it, the gun is meaningless. So you don't have to give too much meaning to triple shots.
The reason why we study history is to learn the lessons of past failures and apply them to modern times. Also, we don't know in detail because we didn't live in the past.(If a tank was found in Nagasino, the history would be different again.)
We understand various perspectives and learn lessons through discussions!
-Thank you very much for reading this long sentence!!!
Takeda underutilized the assets of his huge cavalry army.
12:50 a musketeer slowly sneaky through the battle field with his musket
It's probably because of mods he is using

@@thenorthstarsamurai back then, the arquebus would be a .70 caliber, less powerful, even cheek fired gun, and the musket would be a highly powerful, .75 to .100 caliber gun for armored cavalry, which had a stock and a tripod.
Oda's guns were called "Tanegashimas" used by the "Ashigaru".
The true MVP is the indestructible bamboo walls

Love the variety of your work! I'd make the font size a tad bigger, but that's just me. Otherwise, really well put together
The spear is felt by my hand and the horse is like my leg.

And a shot goes off.
Excellent!
Typically in siege warfare, the besieger avoids having to conduct a siege and field battle at the same time. Even worse in this case, the Takeda army was outnumbered by the Oda-Tokugawa army. Takeda Katsuyori insisted on fighting the allied army while his generals, veterans under his father Shingen, advised withdrawing. Hotheaded Katsuyori got his way and 2/3 of the Takeda army were destroyed, along with many of Shingen's old generals that had once brought the army its fame.
It's a dangerous thing to do a siege and field battle at the same time. Julius Caesar did so at Alesia, but it was actually more defensive in a way because the Gallic relief force had to attack into a fortified, Roman position that encircled Alesia. For the Takeda at Nagashino, there was no such fortifications, and they actually went on the attack against a superior force.
And finally, just look at the reloading animations for the gunpowder units. Creative Assembly no longer knows how to do this. Just look at their gunpowder units in Total War: Warhammer series. Even worse with artillery. Just dudes pumping fists in the air.
Apparently Katsuyori was operating under the assumption one of the generals on the Oda-Tokugawa side would defect so he kept sending cavalry to give an opening for the defectors. Clearly didn't happen lol.
Imagine the anime sub and dub argument, but as a war in shogun 2
Everyone is gangsta until someone pulls out an ancient *GRENADE*

It’s my favourite game personally
It's kind a sad for Katsuyori since he was the fourth son (not direct successor) of Shingen his vassals wasn't quite loyal to him when he inheritance the clan, therefor he needs to prove his worthiness over and over again, his rushing decision to split his army in two was also the outcome of this burden. Imagine fighting massive modernize Oda's army with vassals that isn't even sure about your leadership

How i wish CA add banner to the troops in WH3. It will be so good looking and lore friendly
It's okay. Although, I believe this was one of the first intances where the guy in front shoots while the guy in the reloads and they swap places. I could be wrong
You are right. But it's 3 row, with 1 reloder, and 4 mskets. A rpid bmbardment.
This battle used 2 rank fire. 3 rank fire really was not used until needle rifles and breech loaders allowed the first row to prone, the second row to kneel, and the third row to stand.
please a three kingdoms battle soon :)
