The most ironic thing, I assume, is that as this was a religious order like many works by Bach, people who listened to this for the first time probably focused more on the text, and we, people of 201(8), listen the beauty of the melodies, the genius of the harmony, and that is why Bach is so fucking timeless
It's truly a masterpiece, the text and music together! Even the structure of the chords has deliberate meaning, like a bunch of sharps appearing in the music (German: kreutz [literally, cross]) whenever Jesus and his death and resurrection is mentioned. When you take the awesome text with the beautiful music, it tells an incredible, wonderful story, the best story in all history!

The text and the music are inseparable. For Bach, music is a conduit for the text. The poetry is quite beautiful here, too: Good night, oh nature, you exquisite world, you do not please me!
It is more correct to say we are robbed of the text in modern times, were it not for people like Gerubach, as most of us do not practise spiritual enlightenment in our daily lives. Bach was the greatest composer but our focus on him is one-sided. What the world needs most right now is Monteverdi and the dramatization of praise, so that we might live as angels overflowing with love, rather than empty vessels doomed to live in the shadow of a man whose extraordinary gifts were not meant for us.
Fantastic! It must have taken many hours to get the bar to line up with the measures like that. Thank you so much! It still feels like the screen is moving to the right after watching this for so long. XD
I think the "Trotz dem..." does not mean "Trotz des alten Drachen" -> "Despite the old dragon", but is the shortened imperative of "trotzen" which means "to defy". So Defy the old dragon, Defy the jaws of death, Defy fear itself as well!
Wunderbare Mitspielgelegenheiten!
I'm so proud that I can still read tenor clef :)
Super Hilfe für einen angehenden Chorsänger. Danke fürs Teilen!
Very helpful indeed for choir singers who don’t have knowledge of German pronunciation.
Thank you so much for your hardwork and effor in aligning the subtitle for German for our enjoyment! God bless you and thank you so much!

This is my favorite of bach's vocals. Thank you Geru!
Maravilloso! Ilumina mi espíritu y mi mente.
The postmaster's wife meets Bach and the LORD Jesus Christ face-to-face. Praise God for His unspeakable gift.
BEST version i'd ever heard
slower (better)

In your translation, about 10:30, you have the word "weather" where I believe it should be "whether".
2:28 (ff) _"who walk not after the flech"_ Phrases have changed in 300 years. It means some alike *_"who look not for 'distraction' by hookers"_* 🙂
Thanks so much for this!
Brilliant!
Wonderful♥
Da kann man mal wieder C-Schlüssel üben. :-)
Fantastic
there is definitely some bits of BWV 4 and eine fest berg inser gott hiding in there!

23:08 shouldn't that be "to those, that love god" instead of "to those, god loves"? or am i just tripping?
Oh, and "yield" is misspelled. "'I' before 'E' except after 'C'." {8^)

Hi, what program do you use? I love these videos :D
He animates this note by note
Hey Gerubach, there is a mistake at the description: "So aber Christus in euch ist" is for a ATB chorus.
Thank you! The error has been corrected.
You're very welcome~

Thanks so much for your work. But unfortunately the chosen recording/interpretation is terrible in my opinion
first
Bach is a better compositor of listen
