I have been a decorative artist for many years and when I paint on fabric I always wash the item first, this removes the sizing in the fabric which enables your paint mixed with the fabric medium better and longer adhesion, after it has dried for a few days I then heat set it with a dry iron. Just thought I would pass along a few tips I have learned over the years. Best wishes with continued success! God bless!
I would recommend to wash it always with the outside turned inside to make sure the colors look nice for a longer time :) I love your painted sweatshirts 😊👌
If you plan on doing this with regular acrylics I recommend watering it down so it can seep into the fabric and stain the designs in. And of course heat set it with an iron.
@@aspen5151 You don't have to but it will last a lot longer if you do. And yes you should iron the fabric after your design is dried. I recommend putting a piece of fabric between your design and the iron that way it doesn't start to burn.
These are the kinda videos you really need when it comes to fabric paint beginners. This was very informative and it answered so many doubts I had for days! Thank you so so so much!
Can you use the medium with inexpensive acrylics like craft paint? I'm painting a solid white front on a darker sweatshirt for my child's costume... thanks! :)
@@tylerjosephstacos3777 huh? grammar are made and invented and followed ,and put some rules..so what if she doest to follow that rules? idiot always checking others grammars.
Here’s a tip. When you wash garments with print. Turn them inside out. They protect from the washing a bit more. Can you do a sweater with crashing waves on a beach? That would look awesome on a dark sweater.
Oh wow! I definitely have to try to do it someday 😊. And by the way in my opinion you should make more video's like this one. God bless you and your whole family 💚
I wash the fabric before painting with acrylics to remove the starch. I never used fabric medium, and the painted part is always very stiff. I'm super scared of the paint coming off, so I hand-wash them to be on the safer side. Very keen at understanding how flexible the painted part becomes once washed when using fabric mediums. Also, thank you for such an elaborate video & your choice of designs are lovely❤
I thoroughly enjoy.you guys painting and washing you sweatshirts ! Just with fabric medium and the colours stayed fast....amazing ! I paint silk scarves and artwork such as landscapes and floral pieces but I steam-set first for one to two hours before washing. In fact the steaming brings out the brilliance in the colours.I love your work, brilliant ! Thank you so much for sharing.
April ST Chung Hello I hope I get an answer from you. I want to paint on dark color silk... is it possible to paint on silk with multi surface ? Can you explain what do you mean by steam setting? What exactly do I have to do before painting on silk ? Also is there a major difference in using pebeo or jacquard fabric paint were multisurface or regular acrylic paints for silk and satin? What thickness silk or satin would you recommend for scarves ? Would really appreciate your assistance 🙏🏼
I love watching you! You are so inspiring! I love to paint with acrylics and it’s been so long since I’ve painted. Plus, I saw you said you were born in Russia, but you remind me so much of my handsome father when he was young. My Dad was 100% Croatian. He was an artist and so was his father and I inherited the gift as well.
I got a tip from a sweet little old lady once about washing shirts with designs on them. Always wash them turned inside out. That way the design doesn't rub against the other clothes.
I have always turned my hand painted clothes inside out when washing and drying! I was hoping to see some sleeve work! Maybe next time? Wonderful video guys thanks for sharing your experience with us! I really enjoy your videos I hope you have much success with your endeavors have a wonderful day!
Im late commenting...a straggler ...I went to the beach =o)) but WOW they turned out fine in dryer too! And Andrea is quite an Artist too! You have competition now Feliks!! Im definitely going to paint myself one too..Great video!!!
I been meaning to paint my shirts or other clothing this test is awesome! Thanks for going all the way to the dryer...😍 i will definitely paint ny own clthes...
I want to paint on denim , cotton clothing or polyester. What pain should I buy and also what should I coat it with that way it does fade or it does wear off in the washer >
Thanks for this tutorial. I’ve painted on my dress using straight acrylic through the years the paint had cracked and peeled off in places. I’m going to redo it with fabric medium now. But where do I get it at. FELIKS what country are youfrom?
What brand fabric medium do you recommend please? I mostly see cheap stuff for sale here that has terrible reviews. I want to make sure that I buy something that's good quality
Hi guys The sweatshirts came out nice, and all the things you did was very informative. Knowing about stiffness and softness is important to me. Are you guys going to be selling them? Thank you both for doing this video
really wish i knew about fabric medium before i painted my t shirt. i used acrylic paint. i saw this other video about setting the paint on the fabric with paper towel on the shirt and it being ironed, since i did not use fabric medium before hand..do you think using an iron would be good to set the paint so it does not come off in the wash?. i want this shirt to last and i would hate to see it go to waste after hours of working on it.
I was reading online and because it doesn’t have a medium it’s not necessary but it wouldn’t hurt it . I made a few custom painting thru the years. Textile medium really helps with the stiffness tho
Using an iron is modus operandi . Yes it's a great idea. It's what u do and I'm surprised that none of the it's clothes in the machine get contaminated
Hiiiiiii guys !!! yes please do more videos like this also my first time trying this with just acrylic, on jeans. Do i heat the clothing item before I wash it?
This afternoon I painted a T-shirt for the first time of my life and I pretty much just wanted to know if the acrylic paint will stay , im not gonna put it in the dryer I don’t trust the 1$ acrylic THAT much , btw thx it was a really interesting vid
Did you guys use an iron or heat press? I’m trying to figure out if either would be good to use. I have a heat press and I don’t want to over do it with the heat press but idk if I should just not use it?
Do you Put any thing over the t shirt to stop it coming off in the wash because I've done my own T-shirt but in pen but I'm trying to find a sealent that will stop it coming of in the wash 😁 love your hoodie and T-shirt designs ❤
Wow! I absolutely love this tutorial! You guys are so cute! I hope you’ll do more. 👩🎨❤️ I already have fabric medium and gonna do this for sure. I’m a fairly new artist so I have a quick question. Rarely can I complete a painting in one sitting. Do you think it would be okay to do this in stages? Like doing the background today and details tomorrow or will that mess with the fabric medium and it setting correctly?

for demin
what type of paint do you usually use?
you are a fucking legend thanks
What kind of paint do i need to use?
does it matte which fabric I use?

Quaffi Creations or just spray a coat of adhesive over the finished painting
If you plan on doing this with regular acrylics I recommend watering it down so it can seep into the fabric and stain the designs in. And of course heat set it with an iron.
Heat setting? Ive never heard of that, haha. I assume ironing the paint for it to set in more. Do you do that *_after_* you paint everything on?

Lovely painting. Learnt a lot from you. Thanks a lot.
This is really cool and helpful, so far I only used fabric pens for drawing on shirts. But painting seems like the way to go with larger anime prints
Go for it! Let your creative mind flow :)
I love both of your choices for the image , they are lovely and thank you both on sharing your love of art journey 🙏
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! this video was very helpful.

I really enjoyed this video. Just one more way I can paint and make an original design for my clothes. Thanks for the helpful information.
Most wash and dry them inside out to prevent the paints from being bounced around on the metal drums.

We haven’t used an iron or heat press it turned out just fine.. I’d try both and see what happens

Where can i buy the fabric medium
Will it work with zipper sweatshirts?
Aren’t you suppose to use GAC 900? For fabric painting to help it not fade.
This is what I want to do .
I just can't seem to find a graphic tee or sweatshirt to my liking
