I've been commissioned to paint a Denim jacket, this was really useful!
First thing I learned in art school was; you dont have to spend a lot of money on paint. Just buy white, red, blue and yellow. You can mix them to any shade, including brown and black.

@CarpetSkyBcWhyNot I’m a printer and a painter. You can print with those colors but we use density to control the undertone value of that ink using dots on primarily white paper. It’s not the same as paint that uses mass tone to achieve color. But to your point yes, a black, red, blue and a yellow can create lots of colors but you may want to use a deeper blue than cyan.
Check out "split primary palettes" - they have real advantages.

Hi, WOW😮❤ that fabric pained denim jacket is phenomenal the way you painted it ,its gorgeous,, I used to watch the late Bob Ross,R.I. P . he had done some great paintings too. i have used fabric paints before, on t shirts, and,, i made an aquarium in our old house on the bathroom wall all behind the bath,and the head and foot of bath wall.i painted the walls a pale blue,, and when dry used glitter,, crystal,, and metalic fish by drawing an outline then flooding in the fish shapes,, and adding glitter and crystal tulip fabric paints for stripes and spots, and i did the reeds and had the fish all going differant directions, with the fabric paint,,, and a family of smaller ones infront and behind the reeds,,, all with a touch of glitter and crystal fabric paint. That was years ago and took me around 3 months from star to finish. Ive subscribed to your channel, and liked, and shared. Have a great week end. Take Care all.

I use Golden GAC 900 as the medium with the acrylic paint, once dried for at least 4 days, it has to be heat set, either with an iron or very hot clothes drier…

These jackets are beautiful! Thank you for the tutorials! My husband has a home tannery and he asked me to paint on the back (hairless side) of a beaver pelt. I didn't know about fabric mediums. He wants me to paint on some more pelts. Should I use a fabric medium? It's not going to be flexing and moving a lot since it will be in a hoop frame.
orrmarie would that be considered leather? There is a line of paint designed for that. Maybe you could find a medium so any acrylic would be usable.
Angelus leather paints will be your best friend

Really late to this video, but I thought that I would offer another tip for making sure that your jacket is nice and flat against your canvas. You can use straight sewing pins to pin the area around where you are painting to make sure that it is completely flat. They work really well with canvas, and having your work surface nicely stretched out makes it so much easier to paint.

Felix wouldn’t it have been better to add the fabric medium to the white before adding color? Say in a small jar then put amount onto palate to add color. That way no running and yo7 can close lid of jar with whit already pre treated with medium for later use?
I am really suprised how smooth it looks. I tried my first painting like this and there is so many gaps because of jacket structure, when I'm going with paint. And It's hard to fill them, even in multiple layers.
Any tips, please?
Do one layer of white, and let it soak into the fabric, I also do motions going with the grain of the jacket

Hello Aayushi, the fabric medium keeps the color from fading. if there's none, the color maybe washed out fast..

Is fabric medium required if it is a painting on denim to hang on a wall?
I wouldn't say so, I think the fabric medium is so that you would be able to throw the jacket in the washer

can you do paintin on vans shoes tutorial and what is good for paint, watercolor and seal to protect it.. thanks in advance?!
using water colour on fabric is a bad idea. it will just bleed as soon as you touch your brush into the shoe. I've painted shoes before, you have to go with acrylics. Use textile medium, you shouldn't have to seal it if you do. Textile medium sometimes needs to be properly bound, which you can do with an iron. After than, it won't wash off or crack.

It should last a few washs on gentle with cold water I would air dry it tho
if you set them correctly they should hold up. only wash using cold water and don’t machine dry, air drying is best.
