    ► freethoughtblog...
    RUclips comments are at present disabled in our channel, to the displeasure of some. However, each video has a prominent link to the associated open thread that appears on our blog. In the past we've tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of RUclips comment sections, in our experience.
    We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are "officially" associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don't actively chase off more reasonable contributors.

    WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
    The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
    The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
    We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

    In response to Kris from Toronto, that is beyond egotistical not just for her but for every religious person out there to believe that they're so special God is going to override another persons free will to make them do something that will reveal him. Saying "this person did this therefore God" is the most selfish and egotistical thing you REGULARLY hear from the religious and I have no clue how they think themselves SO SPECIAL that it makes any sense at all to them.

    in the spouse example with Daniel, it's worse than that...
    Daniel would be advocating the proposition that, while he cannot know if his spouse is faithful or unfaithful, because it gives him comfort, he should avoid looking for any evidence that would show his spouse to be unfaithful.
    and in the general argument, he's literally saying (about his beliefs, if his beliefs were analogous to the spouse example) that even when somebody presents evidence that his spouse is unfaithful, he's justified in ignoring that evidence, because believing his spouse is faithful makes him feel good.

    • @IONAPINKMOXIE
      @IONAPINKMOXIE 5 лет назад +6

      I have a couple hypotheses- the call screeners may not recognize his voice right away. He calls, tells the screener what he wants to talk about and they put him on hold. Limited talk and not enough time to determine he's THE repeat caller. Especially since he lies to them about his name and where he's from. Almost every time, he changes his name and place. The second idea I have is that the screeners KNOW who he is, he hasn't been banned yet, and they know the hosts will wipe the floor with him and be a useful TOOL. As most of us know, the show is not necessarily for the callers, it's for the viewers to objectively see what is being said by another person and how irrational most of it is.

    Ever since I became an Atheist, my life lost a lot of meaning. Knowing that life is pointless is a very tough pill to swallow, and most humans can't swallow it.
    Some Atheists can manage to self-brainwash themselves into writing coffee table books, traveling and creating their "own meaning." However, truthfully speaking we know it is just a form of replacing organized religion with individualized spiritual religion.
    Life is pointless. We are all going to die. What is worse, a billion years will go by, and if evolution is true, we won't even be the same species.
    So, all this "personal meaning" stuff is just fluff. The truth is terrible. This is why people need their religions. You don't have to believe in a maximally powerful being who created everything, but you still need to believe in something that can't be proven with the scientific method or rationalized with logic. If you can't, then you are very close to the final solution.

      How is a life that will end, and be forgotten in the stream of space-time "important?"
      Scientists are approximating the Universe to be 14B years old, so you think your life will be remembered 14B years from the point of your death? Do you even comprehend how much space-time and change that is?
      Be realistic.

      There is no treatment for reality. Life is not important when you step outside yourselves.

    • @UngoogleableMan
      @UngoogleableMan 4 года назад +3

      When I became an atheist, my life was exponentially more meaningful. I realized that the life I have RIGHT NOW is the only life I will ever get. That makes it so much more precious so much more important.
      So what if I will not exist forever as someone promised me before? Thats not what the point of existing or living life is. Its not about the end result. Its about being alive right now. You have this one chance to experience, to live, to learn, to laugh, to cry.
      Does the fact that your car will end up rusting in a junk yard one day make your car meaningless and purposeless RIGHT NOW? Of course not.
      Life isnt about the end result.
      Being alive, even for such a short time is infinitely better than never existing in the first place.

      Just because you ended up in a nihilistic funk, that doesn't signify that "nihilistic funk" is the appropriate or necessarily default response to finding out there's no deity-set purpose.
      And obtw...no Forever Cookie for you.
      You might be atheist nihilist. Or theist agent provocateur. Either way, you don't get to set reality to fit your definitions.

    Finally a smart spiritual person on one of your shows, he's scholarly and knows how to be rational about religion. Is it reasonable that giant orbs in the"sky/void/nothingness/heavens/ etc," float suspespended by something you call force, but not only did they move by force, but they move in what might as well be measured as a forever to witnesses of the enigma...It's unreasonable to say you know how all this became, but some say the big bang is the only explanation for what we never witnessed, from our understanding. You are not justified by discrediting searching, that's like promoting stagnancy or neglect of finding the/something unknown. Your argument that spiritual evidence is meritless work, or work towards such is, is a lie. this is the definition of spirit the principle of conscious life; the vital principle in humans, animating the body or mediating between body and soul. Your saying that isn't allowed to be allowed in your tone. Your saying that you can but to do so is a waste of time no matter how you believe in your spirit or connection to god/gods/divine. As soon as you can explain things like how I can feel eyes on me from behind and turn around to see who's checking me out isn't interconnectivity evidence than I think you must be discredited for you lack of sense. I saw because of God, I saw coincidence happen that seems like miracles I've witnessed things with other people who know what happened that you would say that is impossible, I've seen birds behave in unfamiliar ways towards me at pivotal times in my life, in fact my life has change a lot as in progressed things that if I say you would say it's unquantifiable from your end but I know I'd be a blind, braindead, careless person at this point to dismiss what I've seen, and yes I questioned before judgment, but no I've prayed enough and been answered so many times. I can explain myself but your not going to tell me just because you know how fast a planet is going you have answered how it is in a perfect place.

      @Please Complete All Fields I agree that most popular religion is good and bad moralistic view used to ultimately create a sameness of people within a people's. But seriously there is more to life than the shit believers and atheist say so I just have to individualize my way of thinking because, and I'm not going into it at all, I know for a fact that there is high level spirituality that can be witnessed and withheld. There are thing I've seen that have come to coordinated to disregard because someone else didn't experience it.

      Screaming complaints. Whiny. Demanding (from anonymity) that people DO WHAT YOU WANT.
      Yeah. That scans with Yahweh/Jehovah/Allah.
