Unfortunately, this has nothing to do with home schooling, or having evangelical type parents. All it takes is going to church services. Maybe once, maybe 52 times in a year, maybe over several years or a lifetime. If you listen to someone preaching or teaching you, and they are presenting the material as important and as truth, all it takes is that “click” that occurs in your mind, in your emotions, that hooks into your hopes and your fears, and you will begin to seek out information that confirms those hopes and fears. You know it occurs to me that a lot of people use the words "faith" and "belief" when what they really mean is "hope." They "hope" there is an after life where they can see their mom again. They "hope" there is an all good, merciful God keeping score and prepared to reward the just and punish the wicked. They hope. I've had a near-death experience. You feel an overwhelming sense of peace and satisfaction and joy. The only thing I could liken it to was being hugged and protected by my mother when I was very young - something I hadn't experienced in decades. You see a brightening white light (like coming out of a long dark tunnel). You lose your sense of identity and 'see' yourself (consciousness-wise) from the 'outside'. If you are religious I can understand perfectly why you might consider it being 'perfectly loved' by god/Jesus/etc. Or that you're floating away to heaven/a different dimension. It just seems to be the natural result of a brain in the process of shutting down. Pretty much everyone seems to have this experience (or similar) when they are dying. There is no reason to think there is anything supernatural behind it or about it. And in case anyone's afraid of dying - don't be. It's quite pleasant. Like going to sleep but way more peaceful and fulfilling. Of course I'd rather live but the process of dying isn't anything to be afraid of. We all live forever through the impact (however small) we had on the cosmos in our tiny slice of time.
I have had three separate experiences with unexplained phenomena (two happened in the same building) and I didn't need to run to religion to try to get answers. They were unexplained phenomena.

I have had vivid dreams all my life. I have also often had sleep paralysis, with realistic hallucinations. Luckily, when teenage me confided in my Mom, she explained that this was a natural trick of the brain. I moved to Jerusalem on a language study program in my early 20's. Jet-lagged, dealing with trauma, I thought I was levitating one night while weird techno music played. Almost to the ceiling. I still remember the song, not a song I have ever heard. I could have attributed that to spirits demons, or aliens, but I did not, because I understood it as a sometimes-nifty sometimes-horrible quirk of the interesting meat in my skull. I'd love to understand it better.
This guy should sit down and have a conversation with a paranoid schizophrenic. My Mother had a lot delusions and hallucinations and once explained to me that she KNOWS they weren’t possible but still felt as real to her as me sitting there with her.
It makes sense. Christians usually don't want other christians to watch this show. They ofcourse cannot prevent it, but they can try to put christian ads on the videos of this show to try to prevent christians from losing their faith. Apparently the procces of death, and even leading up to death, has shown us that we often start to 'trip' far earlier than was realised. The day before my mother died she was starting to behave strangely, as if she were on drugs, and in effect, she was. The dying process had started, her brain was beginning to release all kinds of natural chemical transmitters, she was starting the final 'trip' the brain has nothing left to lose when death is certain, and as a final farewell it goes completely haywire, which is probably just as well for our last moments, but in near death experiences (that are comparatively rare) we have our brain back to normal function trying to make sense of the highly traumatic thing that has happened to it, I have every sympathy for people who have went through this , which is a thing I hope never to happen to me, but people who have dropped hallucinagenics would probably understand this experience a litte better, but one day, we all have to experience this in one way or another.

I know lots of people who have had intense experiences on psychedelics and I don’t think any of them have attributed the hallucinations to anything supernatural, but in both states the experience is brought on by a decrease in activity in the default mode network of the brain which is the general “filter” for the brain and is related to the “ego” or sense of self.

This guy is an excellent example of what happens when you're home schooled by bible thumpers.
In other words murican.
Even intelligent people will give over to that thing that seems important, and that drives your hopes and fears.

You know it occurs to me that a lot of people use the words "faith" and "belief" when what they really mean is "hope." They "hope" there is an after life where they can see their mom again. They "hope" there is an all good, merciful God keeping score and prepared to reward the just and punish the wicked. They hope. They don't believe there is a God to hear their prayers, they hope there is.
This guys opinion basically boils down to "If something is unfalsifiable, It's true.." So now imagine a world where the majority of people think this way. Now stop imagining, because this IS OUR REALITY.
So we have a caller who already knows the truth of Christianity and is asking a couple of atheists about the truth. He's calling the wrong show. They don't think it's true ! Obviously.
The “truth of Christianity”? LOL
The hoops this guy willing to jump through is astonishing
People want to believe that they are on some kind of spiritual journey seeking truth when in reality most are on a journey looking for something that is emotionally appealing to them and to fcherry pick anything they can possibly claim backs up their belief.
"The most ridiculous concept ever perpetrated by H.Sapiens is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of his creations, that he can be persuaded by their prayers, and becomes petulant if he does not receive this flattery. Yet this ridiculous notion, without one real shred of evidence to bolster it, has gone on to found one of the oldest, largest and least productive industries in history."

RUclips has a weird ad algorithm. Before this video, there was an ad for a Christian church.
The christians seem to be targeting this show with their ridiculously absurd ads . I've seen them in a lot of these shows .
It makes sense. Christians usually don't want other christians to watch this show. They ofcourse cannot prevent it, but they can try to put christian ads on the videos of this show to try to prevent christians from losing their faith. In a way it's an admission that this show actually is able to make people lose their faith.
I kinda get it:
1. Religion is a wide and vague topic.
2. Atheists are presumably Christian advertising's target audience. There's no point in advertising to people who already buy your product.
Ironically, if theists really understood 'how' to advertise/sell/demonstrate their religion to atheists, they would probably be atheist.

The caller exemplified the suspension of the intellect
I’m from San Jose! Incidentally, growing up, almost everyone I knew was an atheist. I mean...it’s not like we discussed the notion of a god much, but the times it did come up was more from a joke told which would make it clear that no one around believed in one. And they didn’t have bad experiences with religion. For instance, my church was a Methodist, friendly, congregation that as far as I can remember, never discussed hell/consequences ; I just....after a certain age....realized there was no evidence, therefore couldn’t control no longer believing.

Wouldn't a lack of oxygen be near death?
@@hellohandsome9875 No, there are varying levels of oxygen deprivation. I have friends who suffer from hypoxia when they ski the Rockies at 14,000 feet. It’s not near death as in ‘near death experiences’ that are entirely physical reactions with no supernatural implications at all.
I’ve experienced hypoxia at NASA and I had a feeling of elation. That’s what people who claim to have near death experiences say they have. But the elation isn’t a god or being beamed to a supernatural place. It’s 100% a physical reaction to oxygen depravation.
