If you would just barely loosen the scrrews to the points you can put the screwdriver in the adjustment slot and set the points. Then tighten the screws. I have never seen anyone have so much trouble setting the points. I love this. I really needed a laugh today.
All the bracket does is hold the coil, it does not have to be grounded. to adjust the points, you roll the engine up to where the distributer cam opens the points and use a feeler gauge to set the gap to spec.
I would be willing to bet that forgetting to put the rotor back in has probably happen a million or more times over the years. I put mine in my shirt pocket then spent about an hour looking for it. My buddy was laughing his ass off, as he saw me do it. But I learned something, a whole new combination of swear words, and also a smoke and a beer will make all things right again.
Great video! Love to watch Chad and Nate working together, and wouldn’t be possible, without Jolene behind the camera to capture it all for our enjoyment!
There is a spot right there for a small screwdriver to move the points with the point screws snug. You don't have to keep loosening both point screws all the way.
If you all had a dwell / angle /. tachometer you could get the perfect opening of the points by cranking the engine and adjusting the points until you got it to 30 degrees dwell on the dwell / angle /. tachometer gauge. That setting of 30 degrees of dwell works perfectly for any V-8 engine.
Hey Team Hiltz, a boat is a whole in the water into which you throw money! Chad the engine mount holes were probably small for racing most drag racers bolt them up metal to metal without a cushion but you did a nice job cutting them out for the cushions. That is the perfect vintage drag car for Jolene she will absolutely love racing it! Nate nice job getting it running that is a nice motor it ran quiet from the minute it started! Jolene great work as always! Jolene that will make the perfect vintage drag car for you with more get up and go than your other one! Fina way to be on guard duty, such a good girl!
Love the sound of a flathead V8. I restored a 1940 Ford Delux Coupe when I was 16. The motor was too far gone so I scored a Merc AB block. Swapped the rear end for a 69 Cougar. Was really cool. Wish I would have stopped there. I ended up swapping in an all new 1970 z28 motor and put a 4duce Offy manifold on it. Was a bit too much power for that car. Great times though!
Chad would please put a set of #5 darkness glasses on when plasma cutting. I'm 64 and have lost most of my red vision because of doing exactly that. Love watching you work. Wish I could buy some of your energy.
You got a heck of a team Chad. Great Job and Really Enjoy the Builds. I enjoy seeing a few of them finished and taken to the next level also. nice to see a variety of things going on to keep the channel fresh and interesting.
I was telling you that the rotor was not in the distributer but you could not seem to hear me. I have done similar things at times during my 81years. Just changed the water pump on my 47 Plymouth , not as quick as I use to do things but still do them.
This wascone of the best videos lately. Nathan, you're not a wizard, your a dental surgeon ! Chad the nurse. Would have been good to see Joelene assist, would have been funny and better looking nurse. But great humour. Laid up at moment and every morning I tune in from New Zealand. (Next door to Australia ). Would be great to see you visit our country too next time you're in Australia. There is a great motoring scene here too, influenced by Australia and U.S.A mainly but Japan and Europe too. Many British cars here as well. I really love your team and how you guys work together. Keep it going. And I love your ZRX Kawasaki. I had one great bikes. Would love to visit and sweep the floors for a week and work with Doug. In our Maori,(NZ Indigenous) language. Aroha, which means mich love. Keep grinding Chad.
Nate you are the wizard. Embrace it buddy. You are the man. We all have our moments of forgetting things but thats no big deal. And please dont feel pressured when on camera you do what you have to do. Thats why alot of us love this channel is because its shows the real. Awesome job guys
I'm sittin' here yelling at my phone; "You didn't put the rotor in!!!". But we've all done it. God bless and have a wonderful day. It's a matchbook cover. I believe, .017. or .018. 55:10
As far as the car goes... It has the look, it has the engine, it is a rare plymouth/dodge I say leave it as she looks, or maybe a chop and channel and call it sweet! It don't need to be different from others. And I'm sure everyone will love watching the content. What ya say Joline and Chaddy?
My advice is that once you get that other shop open next door you can do you mechanical work in that shop only. So you won't contaminate the Auto Body Shop especially the Paint Booth with oil and its residues which causes fish eyes and such in your paint jobs. The dryer that Auto Body Shop is the better it is for future work, good Auto Body Shops try never to mix Mechanical Work with Auto Body in the same Area. Just makes things better in the long run and saves a lot of grief when it's all said and done. That was hilarious Nate, lol the gap is .014 to .016 lots of folks like to split it down the middle. .015 of an inch.
I really hope this one is done much safer than the last race car but either way this is going to be one badass ride and Jolene in the driver's seat, pure magic.
We don't need a 10 minute speech about how you're going to build (correction, half build) this car as cheaply as possible, we already know you're going to do that.
just a note for everyone never use flammable spray cleaner like carb cleaner to clean the distributor cap or points one spark can cause a fire inside the cap
Best laugh I've had in a long time. We could see the rotor on the front of the nerf and you guys trying to start it. Wanted to call but no way. Good luck. Lower the motor in the frame will fit better for transmission.
Hey guys give them a break! We've all done something like this but thankfully nobody was videoing! This is why you check spark at the coil wire not a plug wire. They are not understanding what the wire does that comes from the points, it creates a ground to the coil everytime the points close. they were looking for ground while the points were open. Points are fairly simple, when I started wrenching in 1969 that is all there was. I probably installed 2000 sets.
If you're going to race that car make sure you put some rear motor mounts on the engine. Also new universals and things of that sort going to the rear end make sure it is up to par for racing in the Driveline
BadChad that little ol coupe that's built by Hiltz from NS,CANADA. It needs to be made a 10 by you all it can and should be a STATEMENT build brother that's a great bones car and you was very lucky to have found it a little .oney spent BadChad Sweet Jolene on this car you have to look at it as a investment which this Plymouth Coupe is
I've been doing this shit for too long turn it to the points open don't touch it turn it to the points open then set the Gap and then put the rotor button on it and put the fucking distributor cap back on
Can you imagine working for this penny pincher my god everything he does he's so FOCUSED on the penny he has to give out!I guess this is why we don't see Nate an Doug everyday he went over board on The 40.
Penny pincher? I don't understand the comment if it is coming from a long time viewer. Chad has explained many times the point of some of these builds. He is also working in a country where everything is absolutely crazy expensive. He pumps out quality work at a cheap rate. So if he is pinching. It's for the right reasons.
@@travlite8496 and you are just as valid as the next guy :) I am just stressing the fact that the builds and channel are both ran with a purpose. I'm sure he could switch to a full blown resto shop real quick, building new rides.
@@SteveTheCanadian Also Chad trys to show how a regular back yard guy can do what he does and do it as less expensive as he can. It's not for everybody. Not everyone has money to spend on getting a hot rod built. Makes sense to me.
Points are not that hard to adjust, turn over the engine by hand from the crank till the points are on the high lobe, then loosen the bottom screw and as you loosen the top screw there is a slot cut out for a screw driver ,open till the Guage you want and tighten the screw, this all should take about 1 minute
Chad, I don’t think most people realize that hot rod cars have always been made as cheap as possible. That is the foundation of building a hot rod. Making things work that are never meant to work together. Love the mad scientist to make things work. Absolutely love this kind of build. Thanks for the video Jolene.
Nate wasn't putting nearly enough gas into the carb, but I see people do that all the time. They're afraid of flooding it but a dry engine needs plenty of gas to get going.
I truly can't believe what I am watching, I get messing up but the rotor is something you never forget
If you would just barely loosen the scrrews to the points you can put the screwdriver in the adjustment slot and set the points. Then tighten the screws. I have never seen anyone have so much trouble setting the points. I love this. I really needed a laugh today.
This is so funny . I am yelling at the tv. The rotor button is still laying on the frame .
im yelling with you trying to reach into the computer lololol
This had to be the most frustrating episode I’ve watched lol
one of them days LOL
Mr Peter perfect 😇
Lol same here they adjusted points totally forgot to put back the rotor
The rotor, its sitting on the frame .
Old retired mechanic here, damn you guys are making a big deal out of a set of points can't wail until you set the dwell. rock on
Dwell angle?
they wont know what you are talking about
Rotor in ? Nope!
If they are happy then it's cool.@@southernhellstorm6634
I’d check that resistor too while it’s in ya face

ALSO COIL PROBLEM HAD TO REPLACE IT
I love a good comedy skit. Thanks, guys!

Thank goodness for the wizard Nathan. Nothing better than a flat head engine in a car like that.
That was hilarious the wizard made the rotor disappear

Coils dont have a ground, the reason it not getting power to the negitive side is the point are closed

An old flathead would be pretty cool in there
Wizard my arse.
I was yelling “Put the rotor on”
Jolene the rotor is on the frame,he took it out of the distributor and didn't put it back in
This will be Great 👍 Hope the Flathead fires up 👍 Go for it Team Hiltz 👁 🐅 👌

One of the most fun shows I’ve watched in a while, march on guys. Thanks Jolene.
Gotta say as a motor man Chad is BAD😂 . This was actually hard to watch. 😮
The part that was really hilarious was when Chad seemed to be trying to give Nate some tips on setting those points ! 😂😂😂

Misplacing the rotor is the least of the mistakes, here. This is just hard to watch.
Then don't, move on to some other content.

Oh.
My God, you're killing me the friggin rotor on the frame.Dude you won't have fire without it.Hello hello
Such a cool team, best thing has been able to laugh at yourself, on mishaps. Bad Chad team are the best.....love love it...
Points are open, role the motor while the test light in touching the coil.
love those fuzzy tires!

Very Nice Nate and Chad Sounds great Good video Jolene
Man I wasn't shouting but laughing been there done that with the rotor button .....

put the rotor button back in nate
The fuel line will probably not “suck” the gas out of the canister; you need either a fuel pump there or use gravity feed…

WOW FINALY THE ENGINE IS RUNNING YAY YAY GREAT JOB NATE, & WITH HELP FRM BAD CHAD, THAT JOLE FOR VIDEO & TEXTS FOE DEAF PEOPLE I ENJOYED IT
The rotor button wizard
you should rotate the crankshaft so that the opens the points ,do not rotate advance plate gives you
the wrong opening
Wow. Great. Sounding. Engine. It. Fits. The. Frame. Hope. Drive shaft lines. Up. ❤❤❤❤
It's alive and sound great 👍
Well done fantastic team. A credit to all concerned. Very positive outcom👍👍

Hey Chad. Try to build a car around the boat motor. A new style of Aqua car. chopped of course.😄👍
Stick a foam coffee cup on the trans tail shaft works perfectly
That will make Jolene a good race car chad😊😊😊😊
I was dieing when Nathan forgot the rotor.. thanks for the laughs. Much appreciated.
Moving forward fast folks! PINE TREE racer coming right up!!!
Love the sound of a flat head. Great choice.
That frame needs some chrome tape on it.

Flatheads rule! Good job Chad and Nathan!
I'm liking this build.
hi Jolene,Chad just a thought on zip ties make ahole in the middle of the packet so that ties do not fall out of the pkt regards Rob
Another fantastic build! Keep kickin' ass brother Chad & Queen Jolene! ❤💪🏼🐻
A Chrysler straight six? It took five of them ganged together to move a Sherman tank!
How about a Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler inline 6 then
Interesting
put the rotor cap on. the coil will not show juice until it rotates on the hot side when the points open
Shut up with that rotor, it's not going to be started today
Love the flathead motor for this build.
Should turn the crank until the points open then adjust. It's called a rotor arm, not button buy the way. Blind leading the blind
always good ... and always improving camera work thanks J
Nate's the Engine WHISPERER Makes you all the A TEAM
Avec Bad , tout parait si simple ...OK Cool Ça marche , congrest ...A+
Can't wait to see Jolene run it at Pinetree 😊👍
it might have been a really good idea to take the cylinder heads off grinding valves and new cylinder head gaskets on the flathead engine
I'm a great fan and this one was like a Saturday morning cartoon!!!! Loved it 😂
Nate wasn't putting nearly enough gas into the carb, but I see people do that all the time. They're afraid of flooding it but a dry engine needs plenty of gas to get going.
Match book cover works for points gap
Just from that comment I can tell you’re old 🤷🏻♂️…….who has matches now? 😉
Ignition coil doesn’t need ground
He forgot the rotor At 4460 and looked again still no rotor duh This is painful open your eyes
Nathan fought through his mistake and damn that engine sounds really strong and it runs so freaking smooth.
