- I picked up the new refreshed XPS 15 9500. On paper this is one of the best laptops ever made, but how does it hold up in the real world?

Real people. Real review. This is how reviews are helping consumers. Paying consumers.
I absolutely agree with you. This is one of the most honest reviews I've seen in awhile. This channel needs to go 100K+ really fast.
Thanks for the review. The "wobbly" trackpad is being reported EVERYWHERE with this model.
This is not the kind of thing that should be happening on a $2000 laptop
I received mine and the trackpad is slightly off center
Shucks
That's unfortunate to hear. Bought the Huawei Matebook X Pro Gen 1 a couple years ago and returned it for that same issue.

My new XPS 15 9500 had the same issue with the trackpad. It drove me crazy for a few days! I opened the machine, removed the battery, placed a piece of electrical tape on the back of the battery (perhaps optional) and tightened the screws down HARD when reinstalling the battery, and did the same with the body screws. The trackpad is now PERFECT! The battery forms the backing for the trackpad and needs to be tight to the frame.
Hmm, thats an interesting tip. I already have a replacement coming in. If the new unit has the same issue I will try that.
I'm not a expert, but it might be a bad idea to squeeze a lithium battery. They can be sensitive to pressure, and that pressure can increase if the battery expands.
Had a similar issue on my Asus ROG laptop, placed a piece of folded paper in the same place, and it was as good as it could be.
Wow, so you're paying a ton & then do what the designers & manufacturers were supposed to do for this so called premium laptop
noted. Mine comes in tomorrow hopefully i don't need to do this.
This is one of the best reviews I've seen on the new XPS. No fluff, just content that actually matters. Surprised I never came across your channel until now. Will definitely follow you in the future. Great job. Keep up and keep it honest. Subbed.
I appreciate that. Glad you found the vid helpful.
@@Tekeverything Amen!! Excellent, informative and educational video! Now let's hope you're still around to answer some of my questions!!!
This is my first laptop purchase in the past 5 years and I'm satisfied with my purchase. I don't game either. I also don't get the clicky track pad issue that you mentioned.
Thanks for giving a great review with some pretty detailed thoughts.
Excellent review! You really covered all the bases.
Thank you! Great summary of the issues that I've read on the Internet. You've also brought up two new issues that I haven't seen before, persistent Realtek software issue and GPU underutilization. Appreciate your contribution That trackpad issue is pretty much a dealbreaker for me. It's frustrating because it seems like such an easy QC issue for Dell to fix.
Man this was a very good, honest review. Really enjoyed it, there is so much BS in tech reviews!
Would like to see a same kind of video on the 17" version
Loved the review, very useful and critical. Lots of things mentioned here that weren’t even touched on by a lot of the other reviewers.
really appreciate your genuine review.
I love the review of this laptop. Very solid review and I really enjoy your channel
The first honest review i have found about this laptop. Thank you!
Your video is a decision-maker for me. I was quite excited to get my hands on this machine. However, issues you’ve focused on are definitely make me wanna look somewhere else. Even I won’t stand the noise the touchpad is making. Also, other things such as graphic card and its usage is quite surprising. Thanks bunch for this honest review. Cheers!
This is a plain, simple, get-to-the-point review. This is the review I wanted. I will look forward to your full review. I am thinking of changing my old xps 15 that I bought 4 years ago, and among Windows laptops, for the video editing XPS and Razer Blade seem to be a charming option..But I keep hearing disappointing things from both products and companies. Especially as for Dell, I have followed their new laptop launches for years, but they seem to be very slow adapting when it comes to fixing issue.. 😓 I am highly doubtful they will ever fix the issue soon...
Maybe I should look for alternatives... Anyway, great review and I will wait for full review.
Great initial review.
Thanks for the video man !
This is definitely the best review of this laptop I've seen so far. You definitely know what you're talking about.
Great review, thanks!
Good review. I look forward to seeing the fixes to the mousepad and audio software issues.
As far as the audio software issues are concerned, I just got a message from a Reddit user that the audio problem remains, unfortunately.
Dell nailed the design in xps everytime.
Thanks for your honest review.
great vid man!
You are the first reviewer to bring up the GPU issue. Thanks for that. I wonder if dell will fix with a bios update.
Lets hope they do because its a real problem
Few more improvements could be done:
1) 720p -> 1080p web cam
2) Speaker must be improved
3) Anti glare screen screen protection should also be improved
4) Mini LED screen instead of OLED
5) Amd processor instead of intel
Great video bro 👍. Your video is so honest. ❤️❤️❤️🇱🇰🇱🇰
Thanks man
I have the same exact trackpad issue and also numerous other people on Reddit. Apparently, not all of the XPS 15 9500s have this issue, so I contacted Dell for a replacement. Fingers crossed that the new one will not have a trackpad manufacturing tolerance issue!
Goodluck i hope u dont get another lemon smh
9:34 I had a similar issue with my Thinkpad P1 when you mentioned the laptop wasn't using its discrete graphics on certain applications.
I'm not sure if Dell has changed some things to prevent you from doing this but I wanted to share some methods I did to get some applications to run using only the discrete graphics.
First Method:
- If I wanted to run discrete graphics ALL the time (this does hamper battery life and every application you run is using the high powered graphics card), I would right click on the desktop and open "Nivida Control Panel". Under Manage 3D Settings, I changed "preferred graphics driver" to "High Performance Nvidia processor".
Second method:
- If you want to run an application, or game SPECIFICALLY with the nivida graphics card, you right click on the application and open "Run with graphics processor" then change default graphics processor to nvidia graphics. Hopefully, you get an option like this when the right click menu appears. if not, I think you may have to do some extra digging to get this to work.
Also, don't forget to restart your computer after making changes.
Yep, I tried setting games individually to run on the GPU in the Nvidia control panel. It had no effect on gpu performance unfortunately.
I can try setting everything to run off of the GPU but I don't want to use the laptop like that. 80% of the time I am just browsing and watching videos.
Superb review
Hi Mate, Thanks for your video. You mentioned "Turbo Boost Short Power Max not enabled" What do you mean with that? and what is benefit of Disabled or Enabled? thanks a lot for your time to response. Cheers.
Hey...Great video. Would really appreciate some advice. I'm thinking about buying the new DELL XPS 15. Please can you let me know how loud and how hot the XPS 15 gets when video editing and with normal everyday usage (not when exporting/rendering), just generally editing using Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro?
While editing 4k/30 footage it has been essentially silent for me. The fans only spin up when you put the system under extended load.
I’ve been an XPS 15 9570 user for about 2 1/2 years now and I have never reached more than 6 hours of battery life ever on my laptop. 1080p screen, and web browsing on google chrome + google docs + the occasional youtube video.
Also, the included charging brick wears EXTREMELY quick when you carry it around with you as the cable rubs constantly against the sharp edge of the casing.
Great video!
very professional video. subscribed.
I like the XPS because while they're thin, they still have non soldered memory and harddrives. So, easy to upgrade, when required. Not to mention Dell awesome hardware support for Linux. About the video graphics, last time I tried Windows, I remember that I had to explicitly select Nvidia as the GPU to be used (I think right click and select Run with graphics processor""), if not, it'll run on Intel integrated graphics. Same is true on Linux: right click and select "Run using Dedicated Graphics Card".
Careful the XPS 13 has soldered on RAM and the XPS 15's wireless care is soldered on. Although I've never personally had a need to replace a wireless card.
@@troywest6135 I had to do, the wireless card would always always detect same wifi signal, whatever the computer or it's place weirdly. But it still very rare.
where are the options for that? or how do u get to it
Currently looking to buy a new laptop! Would you recommend the new Dell Xps 15 or Macbook Pro 2020? Would really appreciate any suggestions?
That is a tough one. If you can deal with some of the early issues, the XPS gives you more versatility. The MBP has better build quality, and is a much more polished all around though.
Really appreciated this review. I may be in the market for a new computer (in the next 6 months or so) to replace my 10 year old+ Dell desktop and I'm looking to get a laptop to do that. I think I've pretty much narrowed it down to between the Dell XPS 15 and the HP Spectre x360 15t. At this point, I'm leaning a bit more towards the HP but if you get to do a review on that laptop, I'd be very interested.
Hey after you removed maxxaudio did it affected your speaker sound in a very bad way ? And can you give some more info about how you removed it (like which version of realtek audio drive you installed) thanks, and great video btw.
Disappointed that @Tekeverything never answered your question, as that is precisely my question as well. Did you ever find the answer to your question?
By the way, personally, I don't care if the internal speaker sounds like crap, since I normally use external speakers anyway. What I DO care about is that the driver pump out CLEAN sound, since I often use a computer's audio drivers as the source for recording stuff to my recording apps, like Total Recorder, Replay Media Catcher and so on. So the audio that comes out of a computer's audio driver MUST be clean for my use, and if that means crappy-sounding internal speakers, I'll take it!!!
Thanks for the review, very objective and insightful. As an owner of several previous XPS generations the typical model Dell follow is to release a product before it's really ready and then spend several generations fixing issues that shouldn't have been there in the first place. That trackpad would drive me insane and it seems to be being reported routinely with other owners. It surely can't be a design feature?
I think its just poor engineering. Luckily it doesn't impact performance
Great review. This is how a review should be done. No bullshit review.
Can you talk a little about your desktop setup? Are you using rainmeter or something like that?
one thing i did notice there's no htmi port if you want to attach it to a tv or monitor did i see right? as i attach mine to a 4k 75 inch tv i also add a mouse from my 2016 desktop so i don't use the tracker pad at all hardly
Finally, a good f*cking review!!!👍
I like that you mentioned the cons
Glad you liked it, I hope it was helpful
Thanks for the review. On the market for a new laptop so this was very handy, the light colored aluminum body looks very nice. I think it's between this and the ROG G14 and the problems you presented here turn me towards the G14. Plus the G14 has got that sawweet Ryzen 4000 goodness.
Regarding the annoying audio processing thing, it won't be a problem on Linux. Have you ever considered setting up a nice SFF or a laptop with Linux, like Manjaro or Ubuntu?
Great video. I just picked up a used one with the i7, nvidia graphics and the 4k. So far no issues. Do you know if the GPU utilization issue was resolved? Thanks
The Intel version is different. I haven't experienced any utilization issues with my model though.
will gaming work well with a EGPU? Good video.
great review bro! I dont own one, but I have a friend who just ordered the previous model from 2019...I wonder if these issues are there on that model or only on the new one? the trackpad thing, yeah that would bother me as well..I Never use the actual click on any trackpad but rather, I set it up to react from Touch..so many laptops are horribly clicky when using a trackpad and thats how i get around it..In this case, if its clicking when you are just trying to touch it, well wtf? that would be odd!
I just got a XPS 15 7590 with the matte display and it’s great. Sucks when they come out with a new model just a few weeks later (always feel like you missed out) but I still think the one I got is better suited for my needs.
Under the nVidia Control Panel, you can choose which GPU to use for which application.
I saw this on reddit, if you turn the computer upside down, and look into the lid between the fans, you will see the display ribbon cable. That's insane, what manufacture would put the display cable out in the open.
Love mine now after mods. I have the 9500, 15 Inch core I 7. I got mine with the minimal ram and SSD. Then i put in my own at less than half the price of what Dell charged. While the case was open i fixed one of my speakers as the rubber grommet was cramped and not seated properly. It was causing a badd vibration. But that is fixed now. Also one of my fan assemblies was missing a screw. I found a spare screw of the proper size and fastened it down. I Fixed my track pad with 2 small pieces of electrical tape on either side of the lower portion of the track pad. Placement is critical here, I don't recall with detail but I think there were little tabs that I put the tape in between. do not put tape in the middle as you will cause the trackpad to permanently be depressed lol. One thing to note is after you put back the battery and the back cover, the compression on the trachpad assembly will change. So with the back cover off the track pad could feel perfect and then when you return the back cover it will be more compressed and maybe you will not be able to click it. Just keep that in mind when modifying the track pad. I love the laptop now, it is nearly perfect. I did not run into your audio and video issues however I didn't investigate those specifically. I shall check it out now.
At the price Dell charges you had better darn well love the heck out of this device. But there is much to love. The screen is spectacular and I absolutely love the large track pad. Also the speakers sound great for laptop speakers.
I had the same issue with the trackpad; there was a recent firmware update from Dell that I installed on 6/2. Since that install, I have not noticed it, but will test it out further to see if it has been resolved somehow--but it definitely seemed to be a hardware issue as a default.
Thanks for this review. I was considering this laptop, but the annoying trackpad sound would ruin experience for me. Back to the drawing board.
They know about the track pad and said you should send it back and they will fix or replace it. Thanks for your video
thanks for the review! would you recommend this for 3D modeling and engineering stuff?
Go for precision 5510. Trust me, I ran simulations all day and the motherboard gave out.
@@itsmesuryat7570 really ? i need this for auto cad and photoshop etc
Hey man, did you get a replacement? Would you recommend this laptop now?
Did you have any issues with the lid not staying closed when the laptop is in vertical?
Thanks for the review! What about fans... Are they very noisy? For instance when you use Android studio for programming or other heavy loading work. Thanks
The fans get appropriately loud. Under full load you can definitely hear them, but they make more of a whooshing sound which sounds better than most laptops.
@@Tekeverything thanks!
I want to switch back to Window, and Dell XPS seems to be the best replacement. However, quality is really my main concern, knowing Dell.
Dont do it! Stick to the Macbook. Dell laptops depreciate and they wouldnt last as long as a Mac. I had some many issues with Dell. I switched and regretted. Never again.
Any laptop will last as long as you maintain it. Especially OS support on windows is fantastic. Much longer than MacOS. You can get an asus Zenbook instead.
I own a 2011 xps 15 L502x and it never gave me any problems until my 5 yr in...just needed to replace my hard drive & get a new battery...other than tht i just have to upgrade to win 10...i'm really hoping that this type of quality is still prevalent as i'm interested in buying the xps 17 but all these probs being reported on the 15 inch model is scaring tf outta me 😠😖
Don't buy XPS laptops or any Windows laptop for that matter, when it first comes out. They depreciate like crazy, just wait it out on this one for a few months and by December there will be tons of them online for a lot less. Lesson I learned the hard way.
@@ChowdhuryMRahman cheers mate, will do 👍🏾
I've had two different XPS's over the years: 9550 and 9570. The number of hardware problems I've had with them has cost me a lot of time back and forth with Dell, repairs, and workdays, not to talk about the countless hours of internet research on all the problems I've had (and I've had a lot).
I've had a similar problem with my CPU on my 9550 like you're having with your GPU. The CPU was using only 0.78 GHz from the 2.59 GHz it could've reached on a functioning board. Dell had to replace the whole motherboard to solve the issue.
Then I had keyboard issues (several times), exessive screen light bleed issues (several times), and some other minor hardware issues.
All this and not talking about the drivers... Countless display driver issues, audio issues, thermal issues, and so on...
Though they have a good design in a really neatly packed form factor, their laptops don't function well in almost any way. And with that amount of money spent on a laptop, one is better choosing another company.
Now I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme Gen2 and I've never looked back.
the low cpu usage sure sounds like the power setting mode was in battery saver instead of balance or high performance...that battery saver mode will choke down cpu speed to a level like you mentioned... this is so obvious that I cant imagine a dell tech not catching it and trying to replace motherboard as a fix....
Watching this on my XPS 15 9500 that I just got 8 hours ago, I don't seem to have the issue with the trackpad. My trackpad feels like any other, robust and strong. Doesn't have the clicking wobbly thing that you described so I guess I got lucky. I am loving it so far!
Good to hear. It seems to be totally random. Apparently Dell is now shipping out replacement track pads to some people.
@@TekeverythingWhat are we supposed to fit it ourselves?
@@Tekeverything looks like a quality control issue
How many hours of use u get on ur laptop
The new speaker position is great if you're using this laptop on your lap. The previous XPS models had the speakers at the front of the case, so if you had it on your lap the noise was often muffled by your pants/tshirt etc.
I having whole lot of issues with my New XPS 15 9500 UHD 16 gb ram 512 ssd model. First(1) the laptop was dusty when unboxed, screen was very dusty and that was not a good impression at all. Secondly(2) upon checking the keyboard i noticed the num key 9 was broken and had dislocated(i havnt even touched it yet) and there is a stretched mark proobably from a shark object on the key(how did it even passed the final inspection test in the production line?). i tried putting the key back but no matter what i couldnt do it, so i guess someone tried to fix it and couldnt fix despite passed the laptop through to meet the production target. Third(3) issue is the familiar trackpad issue. Fourth(4) issue is the display itself and is a major one. The screen flickers eratically everytime(literally everytime) i plug the usb-c charger in or out. The whole screen goes out black and flickers several times before getting to normal conditions. I have updated the bios and all available updates but the issue still exists. I used the same usb-c charger to charge my 2019 XPS 15 UHD(32 gb ram 1 TB SSD) and it charged up perfect so i have a bad feeling that the board is faulty. sometimes the laptop doesnt even turn on,i can see the keyboard illuminating but screen is still blank for minutes. After several continious power button press it got revived. fifth(5) issue is also with the mother board, when the charger is plugged in it maked the whine noise and when on battery its pretty quite. i have attached a link to a video for my issues

Try on game shortcut/executable - Run with graphics processor - High-performance NVIDIA processor.
Or try to set-up default device for 3D applications in Nvidia Control Panel or per application.
Very Very good review. I am looking at buying a new laptop late 2020 and this one is on the list. The issues you have highlighted, especially the audio and GPU are very disappointing and I am hoping they fix this in the coming months. Kudos to you for highlighting this as I don't see other reviews mentioning this at all.
At least as far as the audio goes, a Reddit poster told me just the other day that this issue has NOT been fixed or even addressed, unfortunately. You still have to roll back the driver if you want to fix the problem.
@@chriggsiii 2 years but thanks for the reply haha. I'm now actually looking to get a 16 MacBook Pro, either with an m1 pro or m1 max chip

@NelsonSakwa Personally, my feeling is that every laptop will have flaws, and the XPS 15 got such great reviews that I figured its flaws were probably not deal-killers. I'll know for sure May 2nd, when it's supposed to be delivered. Hoping for the best!
I just got my new Dell XPS 15, and since I work as a music composer/producer this issue with MaxxAudio Pro really concerns me.
I uninstalled all audio drivers, and tried to install older Realtek Audio driver but it constantly gives me an error at the finishing process of the installation. Can you give us a link from the version that you used to fix this problem?
If I don't solve this problem I will probably ask for a refund... Thanks!
Very realistic and professional review thank you so much
Oh yeah, Dell's infamous quality control issues remain! By this point, they're a feature so be glad if you have them!
What is dell infamous quality issues?
@@nars- Every Dell device has quality control issues like the one mentioned in this video with the touchpad, dead pixels, warped chassis, dents and scratches right out of the box etc. I've had my fare share of issues as have a lot of people. Their factory quality control is appalling. You're not expecting these issues when buying a premium device from them but, they give them to you at no extra cost.

Hopefully you got one of the working ones. I'm still waiting on my skin to come in. Which style did you get?
@@Tekeverything I went with the "swarm" and dammmmm it looks dope!!
Oh man, I was teetering on buying an XPS 15 -- but that GPU thing would break me. Thank you for digging so deeply into the issues and the frank review. Also, processing on audio through the headphone jack is a HUGE NO, but I'm curious if you tried it over Bluetooth?
Disappointed that @Tekeverything never responded to your query, as that's one of my questions as well. I really don't care how the internal speakers sound, so if I'm able to defeat the MaxxAudio degradation PERMANENTLY that is okey-doky with me!! Regardless, however, it would be nice to know for sure that Bluetooth speakers are immune from the problem.
Mine is coming on the 15th of June. Along with Dell's 49" ultrawide monitor. I can't fucking WAIT!!
I may get that monitor as well
Just received mine w trackpad issue. Dell suggested sending it in for repair so I won’t receive another with the same issue. Makes sense and I’m hesitant as its new. Maybe I pull the trigger and head back to the MacBook Pro and install parallels.
That's 2 XPSs I tried so far (previous 15 + 2-1 13). Had to return both because of stupid bugs, like auto brightness impossible to turn off or the oled screen : gorgeous but completely inaccurate colours and over saturated blacks that ate shades of grey. And many other small issues. Too bad the 2020 edition seems to also have issues. Trackpad issue sure looks annoying and that's not gonna fixed though software update. Thanks for the great and honest pre review man.
It seems to be that the trackpad issue pertains to the higher-spec'd model with the 84 watt hour battery. I have seen no issues online with the base model
That track pad is enough for me to wait for another laptop. And no AMD CPU. Thanks
go for the g 14 zephyrus for amd 4900hs
GianLello a laptop riddled with thermal issues and even more random screen and keyboard related issues that CANT be fixed by hardware lol.
Then you can wait for 10 more years, because no product is perfect unfortunately
I've been using the Dell XPS 15 9570 2018 model for a little over a year. Has serious heating problems and thermal throttling issues . Fans run like a jet. Does the Dell XPS 15 9500 have similar issues ?
Is there an option for a larger built in hardware keyboard. I recently picked up a maxed out version and have found the keyboard very small and the keys themselves also very small and stiff. Is there any alternatives to make this keyboard bigger?
no
How far does the screen open up ? I have older XPS 9560 (2017) and the screen angle does not open much. Can anyone please provide some insight as to if the 9500 screen will open up some more?
Any idea if they'll be releasing an updated XPS 15 2 in 1 with a refreshed design as well? Maybe they'll fix the touchpad issue on that one...
I haven't heard anything about a new 2 in 1. Hopefully they will refresh it though.
Just got mine too, had it for a few days. The track pad on mine isn't that bad. It does "click" or give a tiny bit of length when you press the pad lightly without actually clicking the button. You can hear it when its really quiet but i guess not as bad as the track pad on his laptop. I wouldn't call it a deal breaker. Another BIG issue is the sound with this, so at times you'll hear crackling or popping sounds when playing any audio from any video. I think i narrowed it down to effect of changing the battery settings often (from best battery to best performance) right now its on better battery and its gone after i restarted the computer yesterday. The audio sounds fucking great when its gone though. I still need to test it more, maybe when its on "best performance" it comes back and or if when the computer heats up? because it can get really warm when on best performance and running photoshop/lightroom. If it stays gone then its good, if it keeps coming back its a definite deal breaker because that noise will drive you insane.
Anyone have any idea why the gpu doesnt work like its supposed to? seems like a complete waste of potential. Also a side note, this laptop is really annoying to open lol it has nothing to grip or any lip to help u open it, you need both hands and to hold it from each side to open it easy.
Really good review. Wish you did more for different computers! Trying to figure out which to go with for a new video editing laptop. The Microsoft Surface Book 3 is glitchy and has so many issues that I'm thinking to return it. But go with Dell or wait for the new Asus zenbook?! Ohhh decisions decisions
My XPS 15 has been great for editing. Some of the other systems may offer better sustained performance though.
Did u try running the game when the laptop was plug in to the power supply?!
very good point! it may be crippling the gpu when on battery and not allowing it fully becuz of power draw, Unless ur on ac power
I was actually going to get this over the MacBook Pro 16, are the issues just due to quality control?
They appear to be yes. The XPS line is unfortunately notorious for these types of issues.
Can you share your laptop wallpaper?
Hope Dell fixes the trackpad issue quick. I’m personally waiting for the MacBook Pro 14” that’s coming out first half of 2021. It’ll be my first new laptop on 7 years. Lol
Great vid and thanks for sharing!

Any update with the DPC latency issues?
Is there still a problem were the GPU is only using 25% of it when gaming? Or is it now fixed?
I think the biggest problem is that no matter how good this is, knowing that in 1 or 2 more years it could be a hell of a lot better with the new Ryzen 4000 chips makes me put the breaks on getting one right now.
Will they do a 2in1 version ?
so I just got mines on December 28 and I like it. when you mention the mouse pad issue I notice it also. I haven't played any games or movies as of yet, but definitely will test it out soon. So, when I unpack the laptop I didn't notice they send an adapter for HDMI and USB. I actually went on Amazon ( www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07YHJV74T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and purchase an adapter then notice the day after I received my package that they send an adapter lol. I feel like the price for this laptop should speak for itself and there shouldn't be any issues like you mentioned. when I contact dell Canada to order my laptop I thought it was a little sketchy. everyone I spoke to was in India and their English was ok. but what really sketch me out was when I called back the sales rep and I could hear the dogs barking, the roosters, the goats making noise and it sounds like a party going on in the back lol. I waited a month before I ordered both my laptop. they came 8 days earlier than suggested.
I also subscribe too
Looks very nice. The laptop isn't bad either!
locked voltage is not only a 10th gen issue, a vulnerability was found and Intel made the manufacturers to block undervolting for everyone, my Dell G3 i7 got it with the latest BIOS update and it's impossible to flash the previous version back.
Is this compatible with any sort of Del, Stylus?
Thanks for the review. I have this same problem with the GPU where it will be using the intergrated graphics card instead of the dedicated one when playing games, and its very choppy. Please let me know if you found a way to solve this!
Disabling HDR helped a little, but doesnt seem to have fixed the issue
Just wondering, have you been gaming while plugging in the charger or are you running off the battery?
Plugged in, ive gone to the nvidia graphics card and the intel application to select using the GTX 1650. Even when i right click the game to select which processer to use, i still see the game (world of warcraft a 15yr old game) using 90% of the integrated card and 20% of the GTC 1650
will the xps 15 with CPU up to i7-10875 have thermal problem?
4900HS option will be really cool, tbh.
Mine never had fan noise, and the keyboard on the left side was always too hot to use comfortably. The screen kept flickering/dimming even though I disabled the self-dimming feature. The touchpad seemed off as well. I kept having to tab it several times for it to acknowledge my press, and while scrolling on the touchpad, it would often see it has a push command. Had the usual Killer issues with having to delete the Killer software package and just install the drivers to get the best performance from the wireless. I also noticed that even though I entirely shut down the system, it would auto-start when I opened it up. Windows Hello worked great and was super quick. My guess is this is a setting in the BIOS, but I do not want a system starting every time I open it. I would like the choice to turn it on. I do not play the support game with Dell on newly purchased systems now and sent it back. The system looks good, the screen looks great but can be a bit too bright, but I wouldn't complain about that as there are times when you want the screen to be bright. It is better to have the option to turn up the brightness than to have a display that is too dim to start with. I did find a lot of color banding and dark color crush while streaming media. I thought this might be the WiFi speed and did the remove Killer app process and increased my WI-Fi speed. The banding still occurred across several streaming services even though my WiFi speed was above 50. The screen response time might be a bit low, accounting for this, but I didn't take the time to do the usual testing and checks to confirm this. Most new systems no matter who the manufacture goes through the update and patch pains, and that seems to be the case here.
I am interested in the XPS 17 and Alienware M15 R3 now that I have sent back the XPS 15. I have waited for almost a year on the updated XPS 15 and SurfaceBook 3 and unfortunately, both are lacking. The SB3 is not enough of an upgrade to purchase the XPS 15 seems to be going through update pains.
Are you able to connect an eGPU? Mine isn’t able. And even with help of dell support I can’t make it work.
I don't have en eGPU on hand to test right now, sorry
