  • Took off the both rear wheels on a BMW F30 to replace a failed valve stem on the rear left wheel. Upon removal of wheel, I noticed the rear shock bump stop/dust cover was damaged. The shock was removed from the vehicle and the shock mount on top was removed using a pass through socket and ratchet. Upon shock inspection the shock compression was fine but the rebound was non existent, so I reinstalled everything as it was originally, with the intent to order the shocks and replace everything later.
Then I used a valve stem tool to remove the valve core from the wheel, with a quick demonstration of how the valve core in the valve stem works. Took the both wheels to Sharma's Tyre Shop and got the valve stems replaced.
This car is not equipped with a direct TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) where it uses a valve stem with a built in TPMS Sensor to read each tyre's pressure individually. However, it's equipped with an Indirect TPMS where it uses the abs sensors to detect the rate of revolution of each wheel. If one wheel spins faster than the others, the onboard computer declares that tyre under inflated and displays a warning message on the iDrive.
