I have adopted a 22mth old masked lovebird who has only had a seed diet. I have really enjoyed watching most of yr vids and have found them quite informative for Birdie.
My budgie came to me on an all seed diet. He was extremely unhealthy. I have had him for a year now and can I just say how much of a change has been made. He eats veggie chop every day with much delight and has Harrison’s pellets in the evening and throughout the day. So if you have a bird that hates vegetables like mine did. Do not give up because that just hurts your bird even more.
eunice yew so it took me about two weeks to get him onto pellets and then an additional one week to get him on veggies. My bird really liked the pellets wet and mushed with some seeds and it took kinda of a long time to get him to eat the pellets dry and by themselves. I had to slowly make them less wet and reduce the seeds. Now he goes crazy for pellets and I got him to eat chop by adding pellets into it and doing the same thing of slowly adding less pellets to the chop. Hope this helps is you are trying to get yours to eat healthy
Before watching this, I'm going to guess some ways to get your birds to eat healthy: 1] Tell them they're going to go to bed without dinner if they don't eat the healthy food. 2] Tell them the poor birds in other countries can't afford to be picky about what they eat. 3] Get them one of those nutrition calculator apps (assuming you can prevent them from biting apart their computer or smartphone.) 4] Teach them rhymes about healthy and unhealthy foods, like "When I shy from meats and cheese I will be safe from heart disease If I eat just nut and seeds, An early death is guaranteed I love veggies, green and red, For great health in the years ahead Well-made pellets in my diet Guarantee I won't be quiet!" 5] Make them watch this Live Laugh Birds video.
One thing that’s exhausting is having to watch a ton of RUclips vids by different people to only pick out tips here and there. Finding you so quickly has been a lifesaver! I’ve learned so much from you and only you. I’m confident that I don’t need to search for other videos. Thank you!

It's a new generation Cheryl most of us young people who are into animals are setting the bar pretty high. Education is at our finger tips so there is no excuse.
Don't forget Bird tricks has great books about preparing and feeding your flock veggies. Sprouts can be dipped with grapefruit seed extract so that mold doesn't grow and its safe for birds. Great video Elle!!💜💜💜
my birds both are in LOVE with chop. I used to feed them a seed mix with veggies added bc that's what Petco said, then found ur videos and made chop. My birds are in love. My girl budgie likes fruits too, but my boy one prefers veggies and they both love veggies! thank u!
(if u were wondering they will only eat millet and chop, they will try seeds, but go back to chop I'm so proud!) (they also love moist chop and they don't like a dry version)
I have a question: I have a cockatiel and my mom is convinced that putting it in a new cage or changing the placement of perches will be bad for the bird. I want to give it a bigger cage and switch some perches with natural wood do you think it is fine to do? Thank you!
Daniel Serrano oh ya totally, I bet your bird would LOVE that! The only thing though, when my bird got a new cage he was a bit scared so I had to monitor his eating. Other than that, I think that would be the right thing to do!
And it’s also good to move their toys so they are more stimulated. you will have saved your bird from getting a deformed foot. They need dog perches. ♥️♥️♥️✌️
Raptor my cockatiel loves it when I re arrange his perches for some reason.... he watches above chirping very sweetly and is very excited to go back in.
If you need your bird to get some essential amino acids but they won’t eat anything but seed and something like apples I highly suggest you get them “egg food” it is honey and egg bits, works great especially around the time when the girl is laying because we sprinkle extra in there along with a bunch of calcium grit and she picks out the grit and egg bits and eats them over the seed :)

What a FANTASTIC video! You are so knowledgeable and so entertaining. I absolutely love watching your videos and I watch them from beginning to end 💕 I am definitely going to try some of your tricks for some of my birds that will absolutely not touch vegetables. It's very hard to give vegetables to 46 Birds 😱 They are all on a very good pelleted diet with thrown in Nutri berries & pellet berries. They also love almonds, walnuts, bananas, apples & cheerios. They also get their chop a few days a week. With so many birds it gets so messy and it is so hard to control where all this food goes 😱 So, unfortunately I cannot give such a huge variety all the time or I would have a mess to clean up every minute of the day. Sometimes I wish I only had a few birds like you so I could concentrate on just them, but having a huge flock like I have I just have to do the best I can 💕

mmartelle -roblox don’t be nervous. You seem to be doing your homework about the birds. Don’t be hard on yourself, it might take a little while to learn your bird, but if you follow these tips from here and other good YTuber videos and learn your birds cues you can have a really cool friend. And don’t underestimate them, they are very smart. Keep at it. Enjoy giving your new bird a good life.♥️✌️
I just got my baby boy last week and it's the best decision I have ever made I love him so much they are fairly easy to bond with just NEVER EVER -forcfully take him out of his cage -yell or purposely scare him -grab him only ever let your bird step on to your finger they will lose trust if you grab them Also if you only get one you need to play with it all the time

It is my fault I never researched enough but ever since I found your channel it has helped me out so much ! Literally waiting for Publix to open so I can go and buy my babies (6) some vegetables (: EDIT: yesterday I went to the pet store and I saw three cockatiels OMG they were SO cute they kept following me and I REALLY wanted to get one but wasn’t and am not ready yet lol maybe later in the future 😊 2ND EDIT/UPDATE : when I gave my babies their vegetables they weren’t eating it so what I did is added a little bit of seeds and they started eating it once they “accidentally” ate the vegetables NOW they LOVE IT and finished everything up !
This is incredible!, I just got a yellow sided sun Conure just like yours and I was sadly informed that he was fed on a seed diet for 4 months. I’m trying to give him pellets as his main diet and trying to have him have more variety of fruits as he was only being fed apples. This really helped!

Excellent summary on how to promote veggies. As per avian vets in my region: budgies are susceptible to goiter and should not be fed broccoli more than once a week (which is really too bad because this veggie is usually well accepted).

I just got my first cockatiel! I have 2 budgies already and they LOVE their chop! I use the seed method on them lol. But now, my little cockatiel wants nothing to do with his! So we are getting there! This video really helped!
I just wanna say I’ve only been following you for a little over a week and you’ve helped me out no end with your advice. My kakarikis have always eaten fruit n veg but my cockatiels were so fussy .. I struggled to get them to eat anything besides seeds and millet .. I watched this video and the one about ‘chop food’ I bought wild rice, barley etc to add to it and in less than 3 days they have totally taken to it. I leave it out all day but around an hour and then I put a lil seed in their cages for when they go in in the evening. I gotta be honest I’ve spent over £300 this weekend on new perches and chew toys and new foods. Although I love my birds I always felt guilty about my cockatiels seed diet even tho I was giving them vitamins I still felt it wasn’t enough. The best thing about mornings now is their messy chop beaks 😍 Thank you so much for all your advice. 🦜 💚
Maybe you can make the sweet potato even softer so you can mix it with the other vegetables and knead it into balls so when they're eating the sweet potato they're also eating the other veggies :)

(pearl and bluebell, mine are Picasso and Blueberry lol) I was wondering if you could do a video for how to train your bird to trust you if they've gone through something traumatic ad my budgies were grabbed by my sisters boyfriend And the only reasons i didnt stop him was because he "manipulated" me by saying he had a macaw before and that they liked being held. I know now that they dont like being held. So i was wondering if you could make a video on how to gain your birds trust if you've lost it and or they've gone through something horrible.
@@CiaraMotuel Thank you, they are not completely scared as they on occasions eat spray millet from my hand, but its very rare for them to do it. and ive had them for almost 2 months at this point as they were a gift for my birthday. And i know that what my sisters boyfriend did is what caused this because before Blueberry was fine on my finger and Picasso liked sitting on my head.
I just got 4 more birds because a family friend couldn’t take care of them anymore and they were fed an all seed diet and the 2 birds I’ve had before them were also on an all bird diet and after I’ve done some research I’ve realized that it’s not healthy for them. thank you so much for this video I hope it helps me for making sure my birds stay healthy

I tried feeding my new budgie broccoli She kept flying around in the cage as soon as she saw it. Edit: Day 2 of trying to feed my budgie vegetables and she finally nibbled on some of it.
Your videos are awesome! I had parakeets growing up and they only ate seed. I have had a cockatiel for 13 years and he mostly ate seed until last year when I read and converted him to pellets. Sometimes he nibbles them and throws them around out of the cage. I think he is mad because he wants seeds! He is totally a junkie. I have tried veggies, like broccoli, lettuce and parsley. He ignores it mostly and won't eat fruit. When we found him in my granddaughter's backyard, he was starving and I brought him inside and gave him some blueberries. He ate them and hasn't eaten fruit since! I will look into the chop and also the chia, flax and hemp and the green powder. I just got two baby parakeets yesterday that were handled by the breeder, so very sweet and calm, but they are seed eaters and he said fruit also. Will work on getting everyone on a better healthy diet! My cockatiel seems happy to have the chattering friends. They won't hurt one another, will they? They seem to be good now.

Oh also bent or damaged feathers (specifically fail feathers), and plucking. I'm not currently noticing this behavior with either of my birds but I want to be prepared just in case. You give really good info so I wanted to hear your perspective. :)
Definitely going to try these tips, my bird gets scared of the vegetables when I offer them to her, she’s a seed addict. So I will start with putting some seeds on top of the vegetables in the morning.

I love that you gave us sooo many options and tips in this video!! You really know that every bird is different and we need to trying different things. I have my budgies since January and they eat a lot of vegetables ( in chop), fruits, they have pellet diet, they eat millet and seed outside the cage as a treat (training and bonding), ..., and I am very happy because all that progress is because of your videos!! I’m so happy 😭❤️ although they already eat vegetables I want to try more variety and give them to them in different ways (like the ideas in this video) because so far they only like vegetables in chop!! Can’t wait!

Make sure it's hand tame. It took my daughter over a year and so much effort to tame her un-tame baby budgies.
mmartelle -roblox don’t be nervous. You seem to be doing your homework about the birds. Don’t be hard on yourself, it might take a little while to learn your bird, but if you follow these tips from here and other good YTuber videos and learn your birds cues you can have a really cool friend. And don’t underestimate them, they are very smart. Keep at it. Enjoy giving your new bird a good life.♥️✌️
I just got my baby boy last week and it's the best decision I have ever made I love him so much they are fairly easy to bond with just NEVER EVER
-forcfully take him out of his cage
-yell or purposely scare him
-grab him only ever let your bird step on to your finger they will lose trust if you grab them

This is my boyfriends youtube, my names Kira I have a cockatiel named "Kermit" (he has a green crest, so cuteeee and i was inspired by your gorgeous kermit) i had such a small cage, i didnt realise till i watched your videos!! his old cage was like a forth of his new cage which is 140cm x 57cm x 93cm, hes so happy!, ive also stated changing his diet (He used to only eat seeds now have got him on veggies and fruit, really quickly i am very luky) Thank you for your videos Kermit and myself both benefit by them!!

Thank you so much for this information ! My birds have been eating ONLY seeds ever since I got them but I usually give them apples not everyday though , and I gave them kale and cucumbers only. It is my fault I never researched enough but ever since I found your channel it has helped me out so much ! Literally waiting for Publix to open so I can go and buy my babies (6) some vegetables (: EDIT: yesterday I went to the pet store and I saw three cockatiels OMG they were SO cute they kept following me and I REALLY wanted to get one but wasn’t and am not ready yet lol maybe later in the future 😊 2ND EDIT/UPDATE : when I gave my babies their vegetables they weren’t eating it so what I did is added a little bit of seeds and they started eating it once they “accidentally” ate the vegetables NOW they LOVE IT and finished everything up !

This is incredible!, I just got a yellow sided sun Conure just like yours and I was sadly informed that he was fed on a seed diet for 4 months. I’m trying to give him pellets as his main diet and trying to have him have more variety of fruits as he was only being fed apples.

I have two budgies and I had them for two years now and I only fed them seeds. I jest started giving them pellets and chop and they weren't eating the veggies in the chop and this video helped so much. Thank you.

Excellent summary on how to promote veggies. As per avian vets in my region: budgies are susceptible to goiter and should not be fed broccoli more than once a week (which is really too bad because this veggie is usually well accepted).

I just wanna say I’ve only been following you for a little over a week and you’ve helped me out no end with your advice.
My kakarikis have always eaten fruit n veg but my cockatiels were so fussy .. I struggled to get them to eat anything besides seeds and millet .. I watched this video and the one about ‘chop food’ I bought wild rice, barley etc to add to it and in less than 3 days they have totally taken to it. I leave it out all day but around an hour and then I put a lil seed in their cages for when they go in in the evening.
I gotta be honest I’ve spent over £300 this weekend on new perches and chew toys and new foods.
Although I love my birds I always felt guilty about my cockatiels seed diet even tho I was giving them vitamins I still felt it wasn’t enough.
The best thing about mornings now is their messy chop beaks 😍

Maybe you can make the sweet potato even softer so you can mix it with the other vegetables and knead it into balls so when they're eating the sweet potato they're also eating the other veggies :)

Love your videos! You have the same color budgies as i do! (pearl and bluebell, mine are Picasso and Blueberry lol) I was wondering if you could do a video for how to train your bird to trust you if they've gone through something traumatic ad my budgies were grabbed by my sisters boyfriend
And the only reasons i didnt stop him was because he "manipulated" me by saying he had a macaw before and that they liked being held. I know now that they dont like being held. So i was wondering if you could make a video on how to gain your birds trust if you've lost it and or they've gone through something horrible.

@@CiaraMotuel Thank you, they are not completely scared as they on occasions eat spray millet from my hand, but its very rare for them to do it. and ive had them for almost 2 months at this point as they were a gift for my birthday. And i know that what my sisters boyfriend did is what caused this because before Blueberry was fine on my finger and Picasso liked sitting on my head.
I just got 4 more birds because a family friend couldn’t take care of them anymore and they were fed an all seed diet and the 2 birds I’ve had before them were also on an all bird diet and after I’ve done some research I’ve realized that it’s not healthy for them. thank you so much for this video I hope it helps me for making sure my birds stay healthy

I got my lovebird a few months ago and she was on an all seed diet , i came across this video and decided to try the first metodh yesterday, i am SO glad to say that it worked and i noticed that she ate half of it and im rlly happy 🎆
I tried feeding my new budgie broccoli She kept flying around in the cage as soon as she saw it. Edit: Day 2 of trying to feed my budgie vegetables and she finally nibbled on some of it.

Your videos are awesome! I had parakeets growing up and they only ate seed. I have had a cockatiel for 13 years and he mostly ate seed until last year when I read and converted him to pellets. Sometimes he nibbles them and throws them around out of the cage. I think he is mad because he wants seeds! He is totally a junkie. I have tried veggies, like broccoli, lettuce and parsley. He ignores it mostly and won't eat fruit. When we found him in my granddaughter's backyard, he was starving and I brought him inside and gave him some blueberries. He ate them and hasn't eaten fruit since! I will look into the chop and also the chia, flax and hemp and the green powder. I just got two baby parakeets yesterday that were handled by the breeder, so very sweet and calm, but they are seed eaters and he said fruit also. Will work on getting everyone on a better healthy diet! My cockatiel seems happy to have the chattering friends. They won't hurt one another, will they? They seem to be good now.

Oh also bent or damaged feathers (specifically fail feathers), and plucking. I'm not currently noticing this behavior with either of my birds but I want to be prepared just in case. You give really good info so I wanted to hear your perspective. :)

I would recommend getting two budgies
Definitely going to try these tips, my bird gets scared of the vegetables when I offer them to her, she’s a seed addict. So I will start with putting some seeds on top of the vegetables in the morning.

Thank you, I am gonna try this trick on my male cockatiel. He is not completely tamed but he is not scared of me. He steps on my hand and never bites me. I want him to eat fruits and veggies but he only eats seeds and not even millet! I really want to make him feel happy and I also want him to try different foods. I will surely try these tricks out. I love that you gave us sooo many options and tips in this video!! You really know that every bird is different and we need to trying different things. I have my budgies since January and they eat a lot of vegetables ( in chop), fruits, they have pellet diet, they eat millet and seed outside the cage as a treat (training and bonding), ..., and I am very happy because all that progress is because of your videos!! I’m so happy 😭❤️ although they already eat vegetables I want to try more variety and give them to them in different ways (like the ideas in this video) because so far they only like vegetables in chop!! Can’t wait!
