- In this video I show you all the steps to install a Double Din radio in your 1997-2004 F-150 or Expedition. From the factory a double din radio will NOT fit in your truck due to the front opening being to small and the enter part of the dash has to also be cut to get the new radio to fit. This can scare some people off and they settle for a single din radio. If you are installing a radio with a CD or DVD player you will need to watch this video.
The radio I will be installing is a Pioneer AVH-120BT.
If you you want to know all the features if this radio pleases each the google using "Pioneer AVH-120BT" there will be many links full of information. I purchased this radio at my local Walmart store. I also purchased the amp wiring kit and amp from Walmart as well. The dash kit and wiring harness I purchased from Ebay.
The tool I used to cut the dash with is a Dewalt DCS356 multi tool cordless saw.

Nice video. It's been a while since you put out this video. So I thought I'd mention that there are a good number of nice single din radios for this era Expedition and F-150. I installed an Apple Car Play single din radio in my F-150. No cutting or dash modifications necessary. It's a Dream. 😍😍😍 P.S. I bought all the necessary gear from Crutchfield. For jobs like this, the added customer support Crutchfield provides may be an important feature to make sure everything is going to fit and all the correct accessories are provided. I have no connection to Crutchfield beyond being a Joe Blow customer. 😊
Great job on the install. Cutting the sub-dash definitely scares a few people off. I did the job on my 97 Expedition with a Dremel and Drywall bit in a Menards parking lot in 2016, running off an inverter. One thing to note is that cutting out the bottom bar is not necessary. I was able to shave mine down to fit, but I really should go back and put the side plates on it now. A useful tip for running backup camera wiring is to run it down from the radio first to the driver's footwell with a coat hanger, then jump to the back of the truck and go forward, meeting in the driver's footwell. Roughly 20ft of RCA cable for a nice, tidy install.
Prize Pack idea: Rocker panels for a first gen Expedition. I could use some :D
I plan on adding a back up camera to my truck when I add the sub and amp. Here are my list of things I have to do in order.
April first I will be replacing the timing chains, roller followers, water pump and thermostat.
Prep truck to be painted and have my rusty rockers replace. Then a new paint job.
Then gut interior and add upper console, build new lower console and add the rest of the stereo.
I don’t want any stereo equipment in the truck while it is at the body shop.
@ThezNutzGarage if you wanna knock down the wattage on the amp just pull the fuse from the amp
@@ThezNutzGarageblue white is you're amp turn on wire
Thank you for this video. I plan to upgrade the stereo in my 99 Expedition soon and this will help.

Very interesting!!
how did you mount the ditchlights?
That was an unfinished project but on each side of the wiper cowl there were to small caps that covered a screw that held down the wiper cowl.
I removed wiper blades, removed wiper cowl and there were those two screws I installed a bolt and nut. This bolt was sticking up and would pass through the wiper cowl. Once I reinstalled the wiper cowl I could install the ditch light mounts. It took some modifications to the wiper cowl. I was not done modifying it and then I killed the engine. I just sold the truck but I did remove all of the add-one’s I installed.
If you live in West TN bring it over one weekend add we can mount them on you truck.
Do you have a link for the tires? or know the specs?
265/70r16 Goodyear Wrangler Authority I got them from Walmart.com for $180 each.
What kind of screws did you use because my radio didn't come with any?
What radio did you purchase.
The pioneer avh120bt
It did not come with a small bag of screws?
No sir I even went back to the store to see if they could just give me the screws instead of exchanging the whole radio they said it didn't come with screws
If you have FB please join my Thez Nutz Garage FB group. It will make it easier to share pictures of these screws I found at Harbor freight.
It look to be a #10 x 1/2 flush mount screw. At the store it’s $3.99 for and assortment.
