ELD Confusion?

ELD's who truly understands them? We all have to use them unless your in a pre-ELD truck, it doesn't matter if you're an owner operator, lease purchase guy, company driver or just running under someone else's authority. There are some gray area's within the guidelines put out by the FMCSA on several area's, in my opinion one is the "Extending the 14 hour day". I was recently told that if I go Off Duty and I'm doing absolutely nothing pertaining to trucking that still counts against my 14 hour shift. How?
