Wow thats an amazing collection and gives me hope for my Balcony pond ideas
Thank you! And good luck with balcony pond!!
ponds are looking good looking forward to the new pond build
Thank you, mate!
Nice to see Moe and the rest of the Goldies thriving!! All due to your thoughtful & skilled execution of filtration! :) Super excited to follow along on the big pond rebuild, because that thing is awesome! Thanks for another Great Video my friend!
Thanks Finn Wiggles!! Yeah, good old Moe!!! Just need the weather to stay nice now, so I can crack on with the new pond build!!! 😊
Let’s go spring!! 😀😀👍👍
I need that sunshine!!! ☀️👊🌱
Awesome, all looks 👍! Pond upgrade we all love those 😁
Thanks bro.. how’s your pond doing? 😁👊
@@GingerFishyOfficial my pond is doing good to, a lot off algae but that is a bit normal for the time of the year. Need to do a bit off cleaning thow
Love the look of your ponds and the clear water. I will be replanting my plants into gravel soon and look forward to a clear pond too!
Do you have any snails or other invertebrates in any of your ponds?
Thank you! Yeah, I’ve a couple of varieties of snails in my pond, I think they’re good for creating more of an ecosystem, helping with breaking down waste and eating algae. 😊
Hi! Just found your channel, I just watched you start this pond because I was thinking of making my own. On your first video I wanted to comment about the two tubes but stopped myself because I saw that the video was made a year ago and my suggestion would probably not be seen. Goody that you recently posted an update, so I can just put it here. Maybe the filter would look better if you connect the two tubes and have holes on the bottom of the connecting tube to make it look like somewhat a fountain/falls. 😊
Hello! And welcome to the channel!! I love that idea!! Maybe I could make something that could be taken on and off, so I could mix up the look from time to time.. Thank you for watching.. and for the idea! 😊
@@GingerFishyOfficial Yeah, like connect the two outflow tubes with two 90º elbow fittings and a tube with holes drilled under so it would really flow like a waterfall. Me, sadly not being that level of handy with the power tools (I'm making the simplest looking filter there is 😬), I found pre-made UPVC drip tubes (some are called rain bars), 90º elbow fittings and a tubes that are transparent (which are more to my taste). Another thing I suggest to add in your DIY filters are tubes with valves (or tap) at the back for all the waste to exit the bottom of the filter. I use this to water my plants. Happy fishkeeping! 💕
@@pinkelephantsandlemonades4011 sounds good!! Yeah, when I build the bog filter for my new pond I’ll be sure to add some sort of clean out valve!!! 😊
Do you do a full spring clean of your ponds?
I do like to do a bit Spring clean, but not a full drain and scrub down, or anything like that. Generally I’ll just tidy the plants up, and maybe re-pot anything that might need it. Then I’ll give the filters a clean-out, get the pond vac on the bottom to remove any debris that’s built up over the winter, and then probably do a small water change. Although I don’t like to do all of these thing at same time, I’ll usual spread them out over 3-4 weeks so as not to unbalance the ponds ecosystem.
Thanx for your reply it's really helpful
Looking forward to seeing your new big pond! I'm going to be hopefully building a larger above ground one this year!
Yeah, it gonna to be a fun build.. just need the weather to stay nice now! Good luck with your new pond!!
@@GingerFishyOfficial nice weather? UK? What's that? 😂
😂
Hi , all of your insulation has worked really well, well done you had some great ideas. Did you put any insulation around the large green planter that you turned into a pond ? I love the way you disguise the plastic on every pond you build. Fabulous news that all of your goldfish survived. The algae will have given the fish something to have a little snack on.
I am really looking forward to the big pond build. If it is not to difficult I will try and copy it. Please will you list all of the parts that you need to buy as the video plays or as a list in the description. You have a really very nice back garden. Your hen seems to think so too! 😊🐔😊🐓
Hi, yeah I did add insulation to the green planter pond.. I used some silver bubble wrap stuff that came on a roll (I got it from Homebase)..and did 2 layers on the pond and the bog filter, then hid it with the bamboo! I will definitely keep a good log of all the parts for the build on the new pond, and add it to the description! Thank you for watching! 😊🐓
What did you cover ponds with for the winter?
Polycarbonate sheet 👍
Ponds look great, I have a barrel pond at the moment and have the bug to build a bigger 1, your mini above ground is perfect so I intend to copy yours 😊, would you be able let me know what heater that you brought for the winter 👍
Hi mate, I’m not too sure on the brand of heater.. but it’s just a budget friendly Aquarium heater that I got from my local fish store. I just made sure it was one of the ones that comes with a plastic guard around it so it didn’t melt the bottom of the pond.. and I believe it was 300W. It did say for indoor use only though so bare that mind.. Also if you’re planning on doing a similar build to my above ground mini pond, I would maybe try and make the bog filter a bit deeper, as I think the plants in mine struggle a bit due to limited depth, also if you made it deeper you could add a a clean-valve like I did on the bog filter i made in the patio pond build. 👍😊
Brilliant, thank you for the advice, I noticed you mentioned about making it deeper in 1 of your other videos (I have watched them all a lot 😊). Love the clean out valve, great idea 🎉
Thank you! 😊
The green planter used for bog filter where did you purchase from please 😊
The round green planter that I used for the bog filter on the round patio pond, I got from a local garden centre, but if you search ‘Urbnliving Green Round Plastic Planters’ on Amazon, it’s should come up. The recantangle green planter that I used for the bog filter on my above ground mini pond, I got from Homebase. 👍😊
Thank you 🙏
Always nice to see the ponds make it though the winter isn't it! They're looking great.
Have you tried running your bog filter without a prefilter? I never do on mine and my plants always go crazy. I found a couple of videos from last summer that I've uploaded on here. This is under water

This is the bog filter. I was thinking of doing something on the entire setup of it, mistakes were definitely made but has been going strong for around a decade now 😂 with no major hiccups. The fish in there were basically fry when I got them, bit like monsters now!
Here's the bog

By the time summer rolls around the marsh marigold are done and the iris completely takes over!
Thanks Matthew! Yeah, it’s always a relief to know all the fish made it through!! I think all my bog filters do currently have some sort of pre-filter, but my new pond that I’m about to start building soon, isn’t gonna have one.. so good to know things work well without one!!! Thanks for watching, and I’ll go check out your pond vids now!!! 👊
