- For 2022 the Infiniti QX60 and Acura MDX both got significant updates which means it's time for a Showdown. The 2022 Infiniti QX60 Sensory AWD versus the 2022 Acura MDX Type S SH-AWD.
Both luxury brands of popular Japanese automakers Infiniti and Acura have updated their popular midsize SUVs for 2022, with each taking a slightly different approach to this very competitive segment. We happened to have both vehicles in our garage this week which was the perfect recipe for a Showdown. We're looking at the all-new 2022 Infiniti QX60 Sensory AWD vs the 2022 Acura MDX Type S SH-AWD. Now we know the MDX Type S is the performance variant but we want to see what both brands have to offer, and if speed and sport is your focus then the Acura can serve your needs.
We go over what's important for buyers when looking at these two midsize luxury SUVs including the engine and transmission specs, towing capacities, interior and exterior dimensions, and the core features that each offers for buyers. Since both are new for 2022 and both come from luxury Japanese brands it makes sense to be comparing them, but what we found was a lot of the new features are more comparable than we thought. Each SUV has a complete suite of enhanced safety tech such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, front and rear parking sensors, 360º cameras, rear cross traffic alert, rear seat occupancy alert, auto high beams, and much more.
What also surprised us were the interior features, such as both vehicles having 10+" Head-Up Displays, dual 12.3" infotainment and gauge cluster screens, heated, ventilated, massaging, and memory front seats, panoramic sunroofs, rear window sun shades, tri-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, open pore wood trim with leather wrapped dashboards, and much more. In fact these two vehicles have a lot more in common than they have different. We go over some of the features each one has along with buying reasons for either one.
We then take the 2022 Infiniti QX60 Sensory AWD on a road test to talk about the fuel economy test results for both vehicles along with our overall impression of the QX60 as a daily driver. We talk about the Zero Gravity seats, overall ride comfort and quietness, and the audio system. Since we drive these vehicles for a week and at the same time we get a good idea of how each one compares, so we spend a lot of time talking about the direct differences.
We then take the 2022 Acura MDX Type S SH-AWD on the road to discuss how this SUV compares, while hinting at the obvious performance differences with the Type S version. We go over the seat comfort, road and drive handling, and some of the reasons why we'd pick the Acura over the Infiniti.

I would take the MDX hands down
I suspect a lot of people are going to agree with you!
It's not even a contest man. The Acura stomps this warmed over Pathfinder.
In would save the $23,000 and take the infiniti
@@Aymcana You get what you pay for.
@@MercOne like what exactly? The interior of the acura is less premium. Couple of horse power more is not worth the 23,000 difference
Got the new 2023 MDX and the ride has been great. Suspension and handling felt better than the Germans.
Glad to hear it, enjoy!
As an Infiniti owner I have no complaints. But not gonna lie, I’m really loving the MDX type s.
Hard not to!
Due to the price range after dealer ADM, the Type S got pushed out my price point by a few grand on what I felt comfortable paying without sacrificing lifestyle, so I had to settle for the A-Spec. Talk about buyers remorse. Especially after test driving the Type S. Type S was a fun vehicle to drive. The A-Spec not so much. Still a nice vehicle (I have the blue exterior on red interior), but anyone looking at the MDX, go Type S, or go home because you will be very disappointed with the 3.5L that comes in the other trims. Plus the HUD, heated steering wheel, massage seats you get in the advance Type S. I should have just waited maybe another month or 2 and give a little more money down.
The MDX is in a different league in my opinion. I actually prefer it against the German rivals at the same price point . The Infiniti is very much a glorified Nissan Pathfinder to me.
That's essentially what the Infiniti is, and always has been after we looked at the QX4 last week. I'm excited to see what the future holds for Acura.
I'd take the Infiniti, no doubt.
Fair enough!
Both cars look awesome. Can’t go wrong with either one but imo I like the Infiniti.
Agreed, can't go wrong with either one!
Acura has made it right, I don’t have a problem with the trackpad, but if Acura could make it a touchscreen and also leave the trackpad as well I think it would be better. But overall I enjoyed the review and would also be curious to see the competitor from Infiniti to challenge the TLX, overall now I prefer Acura
A Q60 vs TLX would certainly be interesting, especially the S Red Sport versus Type S.
Agreed like what Benz does
I’ve owned two Infinitis, never again. To fix a known transmission software bug that stopped the car while I was driving at freeway speeds, I had to pay the dealer.
Parts are insanely expensive and got a lot of corrosion despite treating the car reasonably well in winters.
Infiniti and transmissions aren't usually a positive combination.
Glad I didn't buy either one I dodged the bullet on these 2 over priced vehicles not worth the money my opinion
I like the more Power approach in Acura but I'm going infiniti I love the design and interior more great showdown mate it's been a while definitely
The Infiniti is definitely nice to drive too, I just spent a nice long drive in it today and was extremely comfortable in it. Would be great for long-distance driving!
Not a fan of the less redundant capacitive panel. Real buttons are better
the QX60 looks cheap to me. not sure what the plasticky chrome trims on the lower front and rear bumpers are there to accomplish other than look cheesy.
Both are top of the line beautiful suv but Acura SH-AWD is the best out these plus more power also Honda makes the best engine and reliability I'll take Acura.
Fair enough!
Outside look, both look good in its own way. Interior, i'll take the Infiniti, and the performance is the Acura. If the Infiniti offers the 3.0T or the 400hp, it can be a winner.
A Red Sport version could be interesting
You know the new MDX with that new 10AT drives better when the new transmission used by Infiniti is a derivation of the transmission used by the old MDX...as in the old MDX that was poorly received and had poor reliability rating.
I believe the 9 speed on the Infiniti is the same one used on the Nissan Titan, which is a Mercedes-Benz 9G-Tronic unit. Someone might be able to confirm that as Nissan/Infiniti isn't in the market to make that information easily accessible.
@@PRNTestDrive No. The Nissan Frontier has that same tranny as Titan and MB. But the Pathfinder and QX60 use a ZF transmission based on the one found in the Passport and old MDX.
I’d save the 20grand and go with the Infiniti
Fair enough!
The Infiniti is the more impressive vehicle in person
It screams luxury
The MDX is too passive, common and pedestrian
The only thing I like more about the MDX is the sound system, Type-S powertrain and SH-AWD but honestly Infiniti blew it out of the park with this new QX60
Maybe Infiniti will release a Red Sport QX60? I certainly hope so
Anything’s possible!
stay Tune! it will come out! they have to compete with the new RX performance , STYPE, GV80..I will have to ask some engineers at my Job to see if there will be one! WINK WINK**
Great review, thank you.
If you have tried the massage functions on both, which one you think is better?
The Acura was better, though both could spend some time seeing what BMW or Mercedes does with their seats.
This is a good review. He did not used the sells guy approach. Good job
That's the goal.
The Infiniti needs to go for cheaper.
oof!
Some reason the Infiniti reminds me of a Lincoln Navigator from the side and rear. I wish Acura would have kept the Sport Hybrid powertrain from the previous model years.
It would have been interesting to see a hybrid version of this, considering it's the direction a lot of performance vehicles are going in. Perhaps it in their pipeline.
Infiniti is looking sharp i think.
Fair enough!
I’m in the market for a new car and these are my two contenders. They both have things I love and don’t. If the two cars had a baby I’d be sold. It bothers me that the Acura doesn’t offer a lot of features like HUD and vented seats unless you go to the highest trim, but makes up with the versatility of that 2nd row middle seat *sigh* decisions decisions.
Good points, it's hard to truly find the perfect car unfortunately as small things end up getting left out, like you mentioned you're looking for specific things but on different trims. Acura seems to want to make the buying process simple, much like Genesis, by offering a set of trims without worrying about packages. Sometimes simplicity can be a harder sell.
Acura does give Heads Up Display. What is does not give is the rear view Convertible Monitor.
From an asthetic viewpoint, the MDX has it all over the Infinity. The QX60's rear end turns me off. Their both solid vehicles, but I'd go the red Type S.
I ordered a mdx aspec and they have heated and vented seats but only for the front. The middle row only has heated seats.
@@maxiiimus2165 yeah but it’s in the highest trim, which has things I don’t necessarily want. It sucks that it requires a trim change not a package I can add when building it.
It would’ve been a fairer comparison if you picked Acura’s top of the line 3.5 V6 vs Infiniti’s top of the line 3.5 V6. Someone needs to compare the Type S MDX against the Genesis GV80 3.5 turbo.
I go over why I have these vehicles.
I bought a 23 mdx advance over the qx60, rx350, grand Cherokee…was the most fun to drive in the mountains plus the els audio is in another league compared to the Bose…the 3k option for the McIntosh in the Cherokee was the best factory install I heard …the Cherokee just was not as refined plus when you added all the options that came on the mdx it was $5k more
If you care about the fun to drive so much do you really need an suv or can you get away with a car?
Fair enough
Acura is more popular but I think for years 2022, Infiniti has better vehicle which is QX60.
Acura’s other cars are better then Infiniti’s other vehicles though.
Infiniti has been working on freshening up their lineup, a few new crossovers in the past year or two has helped.
Comparing a Type S to a Sensory is kind of an unfair comparison...
All we had available to us.
Acura>INFINITI
I agree with you there!
Infiniti as s family hauler for sure .. way better. That's the design and the meaning of the vehicle.
It definitely is!
The Acura configuration is much better and versatile.
Seems like the regular Advance (or whatever it's called in Cannuckland) would have been a better comparison to the the Infiniti here.
You're absolutely right, it would. But as I mentioned in the intro sequence of this video I do not control what cars are offered on the press fleets, nor the trim and kit selected on them. In a perfect world I'd have had two completely comparable models but I take what I can get.
@1:29 he mentioned that the Acura MDX is the 3rd Type-S in Acura’s lineup. I only know of the TLX & MDX to have that trim level.
The NSX for 2022 only comes as the Type S, making it the third available as of filming this.
RSX First Type s
I’m always amazed at how Infiniti always seems to build a far more classy and luxury looking interior to Acura. An Infiniti interior reminds me of people that pay $30-70,000 for a brand new piano; Nissan’s interiors rarely look this good. On the other hand, because Honda’s cars are constantly becoming more luxurious and upmarket with each new model, Acura’s interiors are only marginally more luxurious than Audi’s, Lexus’s, and Honda’s.
Those are certainly good points. The MDX’s interior does feel like the same basic setup as the Honda Clarity or Accord. Infiniti certainly did a nice job on the interior of this one, having the leather trim everywhere was a good move on top of changing up the ergonomics of the layout.
The Acura just owns it with that sexy stance while infiniti looks like it's going for the Lincoln navigator when it has a longway to go with that cvt they're running
Acura definitely nailed it on this one.
Infiniti is not running a CVT
@@philssong My bad . Sorry to be misinformed and not checking sources 😅🤘
It kills me how everyone keep complaining about the touch pad system that Acura uses. It takes a minute or two to get used to it, but once you do it’s second nature. You can move the icons to anywhere you want on the screen, and at some point your not even looking at the screen when your making your selection. Took me 1 day to get used to it.
I spent about 1,100km with this over the week I had it, and yes you do eventually get used to the Absolute Position touchpad, which is what I say in the Spotlight we did on the MDX. It's still not my favourite system, but I suppose if it works for some people that's all that matters.
once you get all your radio stations set you'll hardly use the pad. steering wheel controls are always the way to go
What if something sticky difficult to clean spills on it? Just give us a touch screen option at this price and also keep the pad
How's the voice recognition? That's what I've used on RX350, MKX & Murano Platinum.
I actually like the touch pad better than touchscreen. You don’t have to reach and touch a screen. The touch pad is so much more convenient. And you don’t have to worry about finger prints
Mdx for me 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿❤️
Same for me!
Between the two, the MDX beats the QX60 in engine reliability and higher resale value after 5 years. The MDX should accelerate faster since it’s lighter in weight; it drives like a big sedan. The QX60 is heavier and bulkier so it would tow more and could handle rough weather better. It also costs less than the MDX so affordability is at play here. As for cabin, the QX60 lacks ambient lighting and isn’t as quiet as the MDX, but it is roomier and the infotainment system is touchscreen unlike the MDX. Everything else is subjective so it really depends on the individual’s preferences.
Honestly, Genesis is what the Infiniti should’ve evolved into. Again, great video GOAT!
I agree 100% about the resale value. Genesis is also on the right track, something Infiniti missed the mark on.
The Infiniti looks better exterior and interior. I never cared for Acuras interior.
Fair enough!
Infiniti is just shot. Hopelessly lost and underfunded and starved for truly compelling product. Genesis is now outselling them in the USA. I said it would happen and Infiniti will only sink farther.
Genesis has a great formula for success and it's paying off. I see a lot of GV70s on the road now, and the GV80 is a strong competitor to the Acura at the same price.
Well in kuwait the top of the line infiniti in much more expensive than the acura mdx type s, the infiniti is 102k cad and the acura is 93k cad.
Definitely worth considering! The Acura is a better buy no matter what, but when its that much more affordable it makes even more sense.
Comparing the type-S to the qx60 is not a fair comparison. The MDX advanced vs qx60 autograph is the correct comparison.
I don't disagree, but we also explain why we did this video this way. We don't get to choose what vehicles the OEMs put on their press fleets, and we certainly can't control timing of our bookings the way we'd like. We get the vehicles they give us, and do the videos we can based on that fact.
Infiniti lost it soul after FX35/45
I don't disagree.
I think just a "little more luxury" is a big difference to Luxury Consumers... And the Autograph is Luxury and the Acura MDX Advance is about Performance. Not the same kind of drivers.... I drove both and the Acura is much louder and rougher ride. Perhaps the Type S should Against a one day Red Sport QX60 S then we would be comparing apples to apples. I also don't think the Acura has the Forward Emergency Collision System like the INIFNITI.
Fair enough
Mdx is the ☝️ one
Agreed!
Infiniti qx60 is a nicer ride compared to the regular MDX. MDX is BMW wanna be.
Fair enough!
Trust me no company wants to be at bmw level because they literally break down after 60k miles
I have never seen an MDX or QX60 towing anything ever! and I live in the South.
If you come up here to Quebec you’ll see base model Corollas and Miatas with trailers, people here dgaf about safety or capacities.
I tow a Winnebago Micro Minnie with my 2019 MDX. Has no problem at 10-11,000 feet in CO mountains when properly equipped with Acura tow package, weight distribution hitch, sway bars, and electric brake control. Fuel mileage is about half its normal when towing.
Qx60❤
Great choice!
This is Like a Ford Explorer Vs Dodge Durango
🤷🏻♂️
Dodge Durango vs Acura MDX
Ford Explorer vs Lexus RX 350
Chevrolet Traverse vs Infiniti QX60
I hope that the Arabic translation will be added because there are many Arabs who love your clips ♥⚡
I hope they do, and they're accurate! Nothing worse than mistranslated subtitles.
Yes, of course ❤
Why are you use top trim Acura to not top trim Infiniti
I explain why, did you watch any part of the video?
都很不错👍🏻
Thanks!
i would take acura because is not cvt transmission
Smart move, a lot of others in the comments have agreed.
Oh god the rear end of the Infiniti is shaped horribly lmao
I'm not a fan of the rear end on it either.
The Acura feels like a Honda inside. Once again didn’t do enough to separate itself as their luxury brand. Uncomfortable seats, crappy interior, plastic everywhere, just cheap feeling. The window controls for example are straight Honda looking, it’s your luxury SUV, you can’t add a little aluminum? The Infiniti has wayyyy more features and optimization in fit n finish. Just felt more premium in every sense. Around the same price too.
I’m sure the Infiniti has the Nissan transmission too😊 and Nissans great reliability
F u didn’t get it I was being sarcastic
Fair enough!
Like a pretty woman, I don’t get caught up in what she looks like. The real test will be how much time will I spend arguing with the dealership because they sold me junk. Both Acura and Nissan have been historically known for transmission failure. The Acura is already coming from the factory with electronic failures that are said to be “normal”. Having said that, the German competition is 10 times worse. I’ll stick with my RX 350. If you take care of your Toyota’s, they never stop💯
Yeah, that powerless RX V6. Watch the world pass you by.
Acura mdx 2004 is the only non-reliable Acura imo.I don’t get how Acura is given that title for screwing up one vehicle!Infiniti screwed up all its vehicle because of its cvt transmission so I only agree with your statement about infiniti
Fair enough!
MDX all day, lol
It’s my choice too!
Wheels* not rims.

The Infinti needs real exhaust tips
Could help! I’m not a fan of hiding them.
Both of these suck big time! Get an FX45/FX50S instead. Oh wait! Those have long been discontinued. Oh well, for this kind of money, I'd reach slightly deeper into my pocket and get a GV80. It's technically superior to both of these and definitely worth the premium. Same with the Lincoln Aviator (albeit I'd never touch a Ford product).
GV80 has a class action lawsuit for it's crappy powertrain. Also lost to the MDX Type-S in a drag race. Hyundai marks up all cars by 10-20 grand. Hyundai has the worst customer service in the car business.
@@rhar1044As if Acura hasn't had problems, let alone Infiniti. Gimme a break! The prior gen MDX was plagued with transmission issues and the Infiniti is nothing but an embarrassment. Nowhere near in style nor quality to the groundbreaking FX35/45/50. Hyundai ain't perfect either but they've made substantial progress in the past 10 years, and the fact that they can come out with a product as the GV80 shows you how determined they are in surpassing their rivals, even if the reliability isn't still quite up to par. The GV80 has the all the right ingredients to play in the luxury segment. Something the Acura and the Infiniti will never have because of their own selfish and greedy ways!
Fair enough
I am Most Definitely not Understanding this comparison with the two trims... totally two different eng, two different prices, etc etc. I watched the Video an your statement in the first 3-4mins or so about the comparison still doesn't justify the two comparison IMO....and for those reasons, I had to thumbs down this video, but I like the MDX TypeS, and the only AutoGraph QX60, However there just might be a QX60 Redsport coming soon...maybe THEN, you can compare it to the MDX Type S
oh well
OK
THANK
You lost me at Canadian
And nothing of value was lost on my end by you leaving 🤷🏻♂️
mdx better

The Infiniti is fugly af
I think a lot of people agree.
infiniti is a dying brand...playing catching up rather than innovating like the old g37
I agree, it’s something I talked about a couple years when I did a short history video on the brand.
The infiniti is ugly
Get yours eyes checked then
Yup just a rip-off pathfinder
Looks are certainly subjective.
Wrong trim level!!!!!!!! You should put MDX A-spec or Technology package!
Maybe for you it’s wrong, I suggest going out and getting these cars yourself and make your own video if you aren’t happy about it.
