- In this Video Jason Thomas, an entomologist and extension educator creates an insect display case. This is a type of display that is like taxidermy and focuses on creating lifelike poses to entertain and educate the public. I walk you through the steps of how to make one, the supplies needed and share my tips.

It looks amazing, cant wait to do this to my mantis when she passes. Thanks for the freezer tip!
I have been wanting to do this for several years and now you have inspired me to go ahead and do one for myself.
Awesome! If you make one please join our discord so you can share it with our community. Send me an email to the address in video if you want to join the discord.
nice to see you back again.
For a while anyways :) Just making videos when I want to. I enjoy making videos on my own time even if the algorithm doesn't favor them. This way I will probably never burn out.
I made a little one at one point and I ended up knocking it off the shelf. In short, R.I.P. little bug box thingy.
Yeah that's why having a case helps a lot.
Hello. I am a young teen and I’m a mushroom taxidermist but I would like to get into making insect taxidermy. Do you have any specific tips?
Oh my six year old son is going to LOSE HIS MIND! ❤
Hopefully they can make their own too.
You didn't go out and catch the insects yourself? I am *shocked*, *SHOCKED* I say!
Yeah unfortunately many of my favorite species can't be found here in Idaho.
right
What if I eat them by accident
Many insects are edible but dry and dilapidated insects are unlikely to provide any nutritional value and have a high risk for infection.
Isnt dangerous to recomend purchasing specimens? Poaching and animal trade are real threats to the survival of many many species
Wouldn't they just be bred?
@@itsukarine wild exotic specimens are always cheaper, specially with species with long or complicated life cicles (legal breeders may buy ilegal animals and claim to have raised them so they get more profit). Also to start breeding you need to get the animals from somewhere. And lastly in some places there are laws to prevent ilegal animal trade, but there are way more tricks to avoid them. Ilegal animal trade is one of the biggest markets in the world for a reason. It competes with weapon and human traficking
As stated in the video you can purchase your own or collect your own. I am not advocating one or the other. This video is only meant to be educational in purpose, nevertheless having specimens like this in museums or for educational institutions like the University I work for, allows them to be shown to many people and help them appreciate the biodiversity and animals in their own way. Hopefully that helps answer your question. Depending on the vendor, you can purchase from vendors with sustainable practices and that breed them.
