I was there 74-75, USMC aboard the Tripoli. Remember S#@T river well. Used to throw coins down to the kids in the boats below. I'm visiting PI in May (flying in to Cebu City). Might have to take a side trip to Olongapo. Thanks for the memories. New sub.
I was there in 81 for the last time. I could go there and take a seat at a bar or restaurant or street bench. I could close my eyes and wish and remember all i can. When my eyes open ,reality would hit me . This is Not the P.I. that i fell in love with and it is no longer the 7th jewel of the sea.
I subscribed for showing partially the old base, I was aboard the USS Midway from’75 -77, Magsaysay Dr, was wonderful back then many happy liberty days, keep it up🌵😎
@@jeanlegaspi31 Thanks for watching and for subscribing! I’ll be back there The end of the month and I’ll talk a walk down Magsaysay Drive . Someone else wanted to see Gordon Ave as well.
It change a lot . never home for forty years Im so excited every time I see Olongapo . i used to worked in the base . Now Im living in Chesapeake Virginia Please vlog some more about Olongapo city. .Especially around Asinan street. Thank you very much Marina Day
I ran those streets from 1981 to 1984 stationed onboard USS Midway for 4 years as a Single Sailor. I tried to extend onboard for one more year. My Detailer just laughed. He told me to pick any place I wanted in the States, but I was going home.
i enjoyed this video, although i couldn't hear you very well, but i was stationed there so it was nice to see the old stomping grounds, i was at "C" company marine barracks san miguel naval station and capas tarlac, then when those bases closed i went to "B" company cubi point and did jungle patrols and dock security, i was there when nt. Pinatubo erupted. it was a mess. i used to go to bogarts on Magsaysay, it was a country bar. i heard all those places are mostly closed now. subscribed and liked, i will check out more of your videos
Sorry about the sound. I think I was using the built in mic that day. I'll try to use an external mic more often. I appreciate the feedback. I was at Sam Miguel in the early '70's. Next time I'm over there I'll take a walk up Magsaysay but most of the bars are gone. Thanks for subscribing!
Hope you continue to grow! You have done a great job keeping the channel going through difficult times. I had to give mine up. I just passed 1000 followers on FB where I post my adventures now. I'll continue to follow and see what you're up to for sure! By the way, my kids would love to eat with you! You are at their favorite place!
When I saw title I thought you were going to the Base in San Antonio. I think the Philippine Army is there now? Use to be a USN Communications Station for Pacific Fleet. Best duty I ever had.
Yeah, I was there 72-75. CTI USN. USNAVCOMSTAPHIL. The Philippine Navy is there now using it as some kind of training area. I'm going to try to get closer to the base next time I go there. The closest I've been I videoed in vlog #284 about 1/2 way thru.
@ I was there 88-91. I visited again about 10 years ago with my son who was playing in the PBA one year. I walked up to the gate just to see it again and the entrance was the same. I lived in subdivision right past the base road turnoff on crossroads.
I was stationed at Clark AFB when the Volcano Erupted and after everything was settled there was talk about making this area like Disneyland with a big Amusement park 😮😮😮😮😮 I really couldn't see that happening....
Thanks for watching! That's the only one I can think of in the area. It's usually set on a yellow blinking caution there and red blinking caution coming off SBMA. For a while they had a traffic cop there, but mostly it's just the light which means there may as well be nothing. LOL
Great Vid. That's exactly my JolliBee order. The rest of my day I just get from the street vendors. I'll still gain 10 pounds during a 2 week vacation. 😅
I just subscribed, i live in the Philippines now in bohol only for 6 months a year, from nov to april , i was 8n subic 2018 to check it out? Thank you for subscribing and letting me know. I seldom know who my subs are. I take it your wife will be joining you in January. Where are you located? Are there any other areas in Zambales, Subic, Olongapo, SBMA that you would like me to video? I'll be going back in March.
Most people are clueless as to what is really going on in country. 7 new military facilities are quietly being built in the Philippines. They are known JUSMAGPHIL. Joint US Military Advisory Group Philippines. These bases will be 100% under Philippine control, but allow American forces, hardware, and personnel to rotate in and out unlimited to combat the growing Chinese influence in the Spratly Islands.
Wow 40 years makes a difference. Looks very nice and the sidewalk was clear of vendors and hustlers.

Left there in early ‘72. Things have really changed; for the better, it appears.
I missed the old Olongapo. 1991 i was in vacation in Manila Philippines Pinatubo eruption. Volcanic ash was all the way to Manila
