This is so crazy to see; I was at this race! I remember, Doug Henry was all by himself on that YZF450, and the whole night he was stuck around fourth because of a flu he'd been fighting. So the whole night going into the triples, it was McGrath (rrraaahhh!), Emmig, (rrraaahhh!), Lusk (rrraaahhh!), Henry (BRRRRRGGHAAPPP!).
Lucky you that you were at this race. I honestly didn't know about Henry's flu until Marty Reid reported it on the Phoenix broadcast during the second heat race. Not hearing Henry's 4-stroke go around was almost hard to imagine. I liked the sound of it, but I didn't think they'd completely dominate the sport 8 years later.
I don't know about that. Jeremy McGrath was certainly on his game at this time after his '97 season was just one to forget. When I first started following the sport, I immediately noticed that Ward was never up to par until his home race in Seattle. After Supercross stopped going to the Kingdome in 2000 due to its demolition, Ward never really got his seasons started off on the right foot ever again, and the only hometown race he ever got was the Washougal Motocross over the summertime.

If Larry Ward ever actually trained he'd have 1-2 championships
