And that’s why I do it! If I can make one person laugh, I’ve done my job. Plus, someone might buy a game they think is cool (or avoid one). 😂 And I appreciate you commenting too, Lindsay! Have a great weekend!!! 😀😎

Did you happen to watch the actual video where I house sit at AVGN’s house? (Not for real, of course, haha). Here’s the link…

I need to check out your backlog of videos. Man this is not your typical video game youtube content. Definitely has a bit of AVGN flavor but refreshingly isnt just another impersonation of the Nerd. Major hidden gem channel you have here Dr Scott!
I find it fascinating how some gaming channels (wont give names!) have much less entertaining videos with low effort put into them (i.e. pickups, reselling, and "my collection" content) can have 10x as much traction on youtube and they pop up in my recommended video feed, but your channel I was only able to find from a recomendation by Square Pegs. MY THEORY is that many channels are investing a small amount of money and a lot of their time into promoting their content. You can pay youtube to "push" your content, and in my experience from marketing in-person events on facebook, the reach per dollar is well worth it. I couldnt succeed without it. So maybe consider looking into this and investing a few dollars IFFFF you are wanting to grow your audience. I know this will happen organically over time with the quality of content that you make, but a hundred bucks boosting some of your best videos I KNOW would rapidly speed up the process. It's not the same as paying for bot subs!! It's more of a bribe to youtube to get your content rabked higher in the suggested feed algorithm so that more dummies like me can stumble upon your content and be glad they did!
The other thing I know these other channels put a lot of work into, and I don't think its as tasteful, is self promotion on other social media platforms. Spamming links to their vids on Reddit, facebook groups, etc. Seems like they put more effort into marketing the selves than they do their content, and this is very common to see. Much more rare is finding the hidden gem channel that oozes with quality that is not doing any self promotion.
I write this only to compliment your great work and express my feeling that Game Closet simply belongs in the 50k-100k sub range given the quality and the only thing standing in the way is exposure. I do what I can to like and comment on each video to try to give the all knowing ALGORITHM a hint!

You, sir, have floored me with your compliment. I really appreciate it. And you are right, there are those that are probably paying to "bribe" YT to promote their stuff. The big boys get tons more impressions and they are rewarded heavy-handedly. The algorithm sees one of my videos gets a few views and might show it to a few more people (this includes subscribers); but exponentially, a much larger creator's videos are going to be seen and "Liked" by more people automatically, so they are going to be give more impressions automatically. It's very lopsided.
Unfortunately, I just don't have the funds to promote my channel. I'm a graphic designer by trade and I lost my job in August 2022. I have been desperately trying to find work but nobody will even look at my resume. If I am not within driving distance of a job opening, they won't even consider me. So, I throw myself into the RUclips channel. I'm a stay at home dad with a kindergartner. I get her ready for school every morning. My wife works for a major retailer as the head cake decorator and we get by on her meager salary. She works at 4AM so I am the one who must stay home for our daughter unless I find a job that can pay me what I am worth, and more than my wife makes- or enough for childcare three days a week.
I do promote on Facebook in gaming forums. I have an X (Twitter) that I use only for that too, and same with Instagram. Some videos get next to no views. Look at the last several videos. Occasionally, one will go above 1K but will take a few weeks to get there. My recent Robocop video was DOA.The last four videos don't even have 1,000 views between them all. It's so weird that other creators can put out almost the exact same video subjects like mine, and their stuff skyrockets in hours (and I am talking about people with similar audiences size to me). I am not complaining, and I love to see anyone succeed, but something isn't right. I have no idea why the algorithm is suppressing the videos.
I look at it like this: it will happen when it happens; and I am having fun. My GOAL has always been to make people laugh. There could be someone out there having the worst day, and maybe, just maybe they turn on my stupid videos and watch a few and it turns their day around. THAT is the whole reason I do it. I just want to spread the joy to more people. We need laughter more now than ever.
I have a couple of playlists that you should check out: some videos may overlap, skip them if so. One of my favorite videos from early one is my Lollipop Chainsaw video. You want to see the lengths I will go for a laugh- that's the video. My Evil Pac-Man video is my fave. The AVGN video is sort of a continuation of that one in a way too. Here are the playlists:
