Important context for the "years-long waits": the most commonly cited example is joint replacement surgeries, and it's true, in countries with socialized medicine the "wait times" for those surgeries can be substantial. But the reason WHY they're delayed that way is that it's actually better for the PATIENT. Artificial joints only have a limited lifetime, and because of that the ideal situation is that you die while still on your 1st replacement. Otherwise, you end up needing a replacement FOR your replacement, which is not only a much more difficult and complex procedure, with substantially higher risks, but chances are you'll be getting that 2nd surgery in your late 70s or 80s, when your body is much less capable of recovering. Good, responsible doctors will therefore encourage patients to wait as long as they can before doing the surgery, only doing it when the state of their joints actually becomes severely problematic to their quality of life. In the US, by contrast, doctors have a financial incentive to do those procedures immediately (or risk losing the surgery and corresponding payment to someone else who will), and if the patient ends up needing a 2nd, avoidable surgery when in their 80s, so much the better, because the doctor gets to charge for THAT surgery too. So sure, socialized medicine may not be "perfect", no system is so perfect that it can't be improved, but the wait time issue is not NEARLY as extreme as purposefully-chosen joint replacement statistics make it seem.
That CEO paid an AI company to generate reasons for claim denials--resulting in the suffering and death of tens of thousand, perhaps even hundreds of thousands of people. All for profit. We are the only developed nation on Earth that does not guarantee healthcare to its citizenry. Paying an extra $50-80 in taxes a month is nothing to what you will probably end up paying over your lifetime in medical costs in America. Many are already paying more per month for coverage, but those are not "taxes". Not to mention the stress of fighting with insurance companies and having to jump through tens of hoops during that time.
That’s true I pay a few hundred a month for health insurance and then it’s thousand (s) deductible every year, prescriptions would cost something thank god I don’t need any now, but I’m still paying insurance and never get it back. Don’t even get me started on car insurance
Every year I get a physical , and every year my doctors nurse does a little survey and asks if I’m depressed or suicidal etc., and every year I say I’m fine , two years ago I finally caved in and told her I have nightmares a few times a week about stuff I dealt with in my career as a firefighter and how sometimes in the middle of the day I’ll think about something I saw and just start crying , so they gave me a referral to see a psychiatrist, I was unable to get an appointment because they were just too full , so I was referred to another one,.. same thing ( no appointments available )… so I gave up . Last year I was given an appointment for a colonoscopy ( three months away) one week before the appointment they called and told me they had to cancel due to staffing issues ,.. but made another appt ( this one in two months ) ,.. same thing ,a week prior they called and had to cancel once again . a month later my doctor left the paractice , shortly after that Stewart healthcare went bankrupt ,.. so ya , healthcare in America sucks
How do you think Patrick bet David got so wealthy? It’s like owning a casino except even more evil because you are legally forced to purchase their product.
Ya. I’m Canadian. Tom’s comment about waiting is more a provincial problem with conservative premiers trying to privatize health care. For the most part we’re taken care of quickly. Love the show.
Here’s the thing about sympathy… if you are the leader who is in charge of the decisions of a company, where you take money from people with the expectation when they need you, you will be there and then you are not…. You’re going to be considered a bad guy. 🤷🏾
Ari is a guy who was lame and unfunny his whole life but because of the people he’s friends with has had a great career and is now convinced that he’s George Carlin
Bums you out?! Wtf Bert?! Getting the feeling the Hitler stuff is less of a joke now. His death bum you out too? This is why fans feel like you're out of touch w/ them, it's b/c it's true. Damn...
It could be as trivial as someone slept with someone's girlfriend. We really do not know, it might not even be THAT guy, its funny how you can make anything look like anything by using your own agenda.
Tom and Bert’s dads were lawyers and doctors lmao
Bert’s dad was a lawyer. Tom’s dad worked in banking and something with a hospitals board. Neither were doctors
I love when rich people who don't have to actually lose everything with medical emergencies talk about not getting stuff
Ari needs to be in an insurance ad as the mayhem guy he’d fit so well 😂

Our healthcare is fantastic. Our insurance system is not.
How do you think Patrick bet David got so wealthy? It’s like owning a casino except even more evil because you are legally forced to purchase their product.
Patrick Bet David sold life insurance. You are not legally forced to buy life insurance. Let's dance, smart guy

Our healthcare system is based on your ability to pay.
