My 5cents for those with seborrheic dermatitis and frizzy hair: - Use warm or cold water, hot water can irritate the scalp and it opens your hair cuticles (it will dehydrate and look frizzy) - Leave the shampoo work for at least a couple minutes, meanwhile it is important to massage the scalp to stimulate blood flow (which is why it is ok to wash your scalp daily) - Avoid products containing silicone on your scalp!!! Many cases of dandruff are actually seborrheic dermatitis or folliculitis, and silicone will worsen them. The fewer products you apply when washing, the better. - Panthenol comes in many antifungal shampoos and it is enough to help condition your hair. - Your hair is frizzy and you can't stop using conditioner? Then use white vinegar mixed with 1/3 gallon (1L) of filtered water in a ratio of 1:7 to rinse your hair at the end and you will instantly feel how it relaxes (water with higher acidity will help close your hair cuticles and make it look smoother and less prone to breakage) - Damaged hair that needs treatment and dandruff? You can use 1-2 drops of argan oil (it is expensive but you only need that amount), massage the oil in your hand palms, then distribute it to your hair once it is dry without causing friction, and then use the tip of your fingers to massage the scalp. - And most important: let the sunshine on your scalp daily, not only you will enjoy an anti-inflammatory effect, but also has antifungal effects.
I agree, from my own experimentation I would also add this: never let your hair and scalp stay wet long periods. Use a hairdryer after showering, even if you have very shower hair (I have a buzz cut, and it helps a bunch!)
Is Dandruff in beard and eyebrows caused by the same fungus? I have a bit in my hair, but it doesn't bother me, however in my beard is horrible! My moustache feels like it is snowing, and my eyebrows makes me have to clean my glasses every few minutes. Specialists told me that's due to a lot of stress, but nothing I tried so far helped in any way.
I've always heard that consuming too much protein makes it worse. I have hereditary seborrheic dermatitis and if I don't stay on top of it will drive me crazy. When I was a little boy I had it pretty bad and we didn't know what it was, once I went into the army and had my head shaved I got it under control.
actual tips? - Don't use head and shoulders if it doesnt work' ( I use baby shampoo ). - Lather your shampoo until bubbly then apply to hair gently ( ROOTS ONLY & not with your nails ). - Wash it off, then apply conditioner to your ends only. ( it damn helps ) - Then wash, don't leave hair damp and don't wrap your hair with a towel please. -If using blow dryer try not to make it hot, cold is better ( ye, ik it takes time ). -If using a comb afterwards then use a comb that won't make use hair hurt. ( I use a paddle brush/all purpose comb ) Like if this worked so people can see it :)
I’ve always had dandruff, but this time it’s lasting longer and my hair is falling like crazy. I don’t know if it’s because of dandruff or my hyperthyroidism :(
I used to link dandruff with an dry scalp so when my swim seasons started it would confuse me every year when my dandruff would go away. Now I’m just convinced chlorine kills everything
Well - a lot of possibilities. Almost 20 years as a barber, so I can tell you. Some possible reasons include dry scalp, irritated scalp such as from allergies to haircare ingredients or chlorinated water. Alcohol in dry shampoo and hairspray is a typical allergy that people can develop. Not drying your hair is a very common cause. Warm wet scalp grows yeast that causes itchy scalp. Chlorinated water helps create buildup on the scalp too by forming a film. You shouldn't use harsh shampoos. Use a baby shampoo that isn't a 2-in-1... just a simple baby shampoo. It won't cause irritation and it will leave hair squeaky clean and get rid of build up without over drying. Very gentle, very effective, and inexpensive. Try to filter water. Dry your hair as much and as often as possible. Avoid putting conditioner on your scalp. Just on the last 3rd or so of your hair (ends).
I had dandruff (dry scalp) in Colorado for 18 years. Tried everything including tea tree oil, coconut oil, Selsun Blue, etc. Recently moved to Arizona and it completely went away without using anything. I love the desert even more now!
Always had dandruff issues, worse with longer hair and far easier to clear when kept extra short. I sweat a lot through my scalp and my face when it's hot or I'm being physically active, again it is far worse when my hair is longer.
Sadly, it’s the exact opposite for me. My dandruff is a lot less visible with long hair, and an absolute ton is visible after I get a haircut and after a little while
I think a helpful analogy is thinking about a garden. What happens when you have bare soil? Weeds are the first to arrive. People see them as annoying, but really they serve a purpose to protect the bare soil. over time as a more diverse group of plants come in, they will replace the weeds to return to a healthy, balanced, diverse ecosystem. Yeast in your body is the same. If you are lacking the balanced microbial ecosystem, the yeast will come in and take over to protect the “bare soil”. So really, the answer to dandruff is to restore a balanced microbial ecosystem, not fight and destroy the yeast. They will just keep coming back. The million dollar question is how do you restore a balanced microbial ecosystem in and on your body. The things that have been most effective for me, after trying many, many things, were the basics. Sleep well, eat well, be active, get sunlight, reduce stress.
Sounds right. I have a lot of health probelms from living in an apartment without much sunlight and it spirals to making it hard for me to get outside often etc making my health problems worse and my health problems making sleep harder, more pain etc in a spiral I can't seem to get out of. That's why I believe the basics are such big healers because they are both simple and hard to manage. That's why so many are ill, because the basics are hard to do.
Well yes, having healthy habits and being healthy reduces the effects as well as the risks of all kind of things from various skin conditions to heart disease.
See, this is why I hated microbiology in college. I'd get all itchy and creeped out. I'd leave class wondering how we are even alive at all. Took me years to go barefoot again. 😅
If you took Microbiology you probably also needed to take Immunology at which point you learn that the body is an efficient killing machine so you don’t need to be afraid of too many things.
From my personal experience, dandruff can also be caused by environment. I never had problem with it until couple of years ago when I started working in a company that works directly with copper. I wasn't aware of the cause & I've tried many different products to heal my scalp, until I finally found shampoo that fits me. Firstly I was using a medical anti dandruff shampoo that's not allowed to be used all the time, but I'm problem kept coming back. Then I finally found regular anti dandruff shampoo and now my scalp is fine. I noticed the cause of dandruff in my case was from copper is because when I was free of work for a whole month, my problem would disappear.
@@maryo1891 I know ppl in your situation who had the same issue. If it helps & no one before me told you this - it's because of the water. Our skin, especially scalp can develop dandruff because of water. Idk where you lived before, but it definitely sounds to me like this is the issue. People get dandruff by just moving from village to live in city & water in cities in my country are different from those they have in their villages. I hope you will find a product or any other solution that will help you get rid of your itchy dandruff 💜 good luck
In my case it started after moving to Washington ,I tried so many products and treatment from several dermatologists... But still it persists like lifetime enemy..😊so I shave my head occasionally to get some relief...
one of the smoothest video i have seen, 5 minutes passed like seconds, that's the power of good team of great researchers & animators with excellent narrator with intelligent storytelling abilities.
NO. I think it's more strange that scientists talk and research on galaxies and blackholes some million LIGHT-YEARs away (which probably aren't going to affect our lives for millions of years to come) while they don't work together to solve hot unsolved diseases like Dandruff, AIDS, or cancer, etc. Maybe 1 or 10 brains can't solve the problem. But what if you put 10000 scientists in a single team ? I think they can . People's hair and confidence is on the line, and that's more important than blackholes (I think)
@@user-em9mw9ch3y so you mean to say that scientists(astronomers) who research/study about galaxies and blackholes should work on dandruff and cancer cure?
Try not washing your hair every day, it's making your scalp dry, causing more dandruff. It sounds like you are younger, don't worry, it gets better as you age💕 good luck!
You could use a shampoo with KETOCONAZOLE in it. I used to have a LOT of dandruff, like the amount of dandruff that would look like a snowfall on your hair. I started using a shampoo having ketoconazole and it helped me very much.Within a month, dandruff was negligible. You don't even have to use it everyday. It's like 2-3 times a week. And after the dandruff is gone, you can use it even less frequently, like once a week. I used Scaple+. But you could try any shampoo with ketoconazole.
I used to wash my hair every day with some pretty strong shampoo and completely destroyed my scalp 😑 It was super itchy and my hair got oily after like 4 hours
If you have problems with dandruff, use Nizoral, it works really well. I had a dandruff problem that was so bad I was losing clumps of my hair daily. I used Nizoral and my hair stopped flaking after three weeks, I still use it regularly to prevent relapse and have never even had dandruff again. I hope this helps
I had dandruff problem since childhood, but it goes away and sometimes it gets worse. Now my dandruff is under control. First make sure to have proper diet, healthy immune system and good sleep. The common reason of dandruff is dry skin, so make sure to dry your hair properly, the remaining water in your hair needs to dry. Washing your hair regularly is also a good solution
You just said the opposite dandruff is because of oily skin & scalp as they mentioned more sebum causes this & it has nothing to do with diet I'm facing seborric dermatitis since i was born , the only way to treat this is be in touch with a good dermatologist & treat it using products like salicylic acid shampoo ketakenozole etc & control everyday stress tension
Making a common mistake…. I’m a barber, and a TON of people use Head&shoulders when they don’t need to!! 80% of people have dry scalp vs dandruff. If the flakes fly,it’s dry scalp. If they stick to your head, and are yellowish in color, along with a distinctive smell, you’ve got dandruff!! Use dandruff shampoo ONLY in this situation. Use for 2 weeks max.. then get it out of the shower!!! Using dandruff shampoo on dry scalp makes the problem worse!!! More dry flakes
@@shawnstone4949 I have incredibly dry skin, and by what you explained and in my own opinion, I have dry scalp. I’ve tried all dandruff remedies and *nothing* has worked - which explains it all! Please tell me you have some advice on how to get rid of dry scalp! I truly wash my hair very little as I’ve trained it over the years and I’d say my hair is in great condition. But my scalp is very dry.
@@chelseebarber3903 So.. you have several options.. first one being finding a hydrating shampoo. Best out there in my opinion is Redken All Soft. If that’s not in your price range, some L’Oréal shampoos are good for store bought. Other than that, try out a little coconut oil in the evening when you get home. Smal amount, rub into scalp, especially dryer areas.. let it sit… then give it a rinse for the night. That’ll get the excess out. No need to wash til next day. Olive oil works also, but is way more expensive. Give it about a week to hydrate back up.. and you should be flake free…. Winter time doesn’t help, especially if you live in an area that’s dry
Salicylic acid shampoos and conditioners are my dandruff weapons of choice because SA penetrates through the oils, chemically exfoliates the scalp and kills the bacteria. Head & Shoulders type shampoos rarely work long term for me, but the zinc is good for soothing inflamed scalps. For your health. ;)
As someone who has had bad ichy dandruff my entire life this was informative. P.s. original vaseline has virtually eliminated all the symptoms of dandruff and acts like styling gel without the drying out effect that makes dandruff worse.
vaseline is not healthy when applied for long periods of time. It may penetrate the skin and cut blood flow, effectively killing the skin cells. Vaseline is known to have killed a bunch of trees cause gardeners apply it to block ants from climbing up the tree, I in fact almost killed mine.
For a couple of months, my hair created dandruff. My mom says i never had dandruff before, and i know i never had, but now i have. My mom is suffering from dandruff because of a fungal disease from her childhood but, now i am suffering from that, too. I'll use some natural stuffs like homemade apple vinegar with water and a little baking soda. I don't use shampoo because that caused a lot of hair loss, so i am using natural Laurel soap, and a spray made of cloves tea. I thought that caused dandruff but now i learned what can cause that. Thank you
The video didnt exactly give a solution, so here it is: "low blood levels of zinc, niacin (vitamin B3), riboflavin (vitamin B2), and pyridoxine (vitamin B6) may be factors ". You're welcome to research deficiencies in diet, it may be different for many people. Dandruff and your nails tell you a lot about your nutrition deficiencies.
lol there are a ton of reasons you may develop a condition. Maybe its poor nutrition. Or maybe you are genetically disposed. Or maybe you're having an allergic reaction. Or maybe you need to adjust your hygiene routine. So no, you didn't give the solution, but it is something one might want to look into because it might work for someone.
Its interesting how they just stop at "use anti-dandruff shampoo" - I dont think it's only genetic. I used shampoo that my dermatologist gave for a few months, and then I got so tired of using this medicated shampoo, I started using all kinds of fruits that I normally eat. I applied orange juice on my scalp, banana, avocado, aloe, mayo and what not and then I noticed I don't have so much of a dandruff problem anymore. I think shampoos are not the only solution, just the shampoo industry wants us to believe sadly.
Nizoral(ketoconazole) shampoo works perfectly for me. But you are supposed to use it only twice a week or your scalp will become resistant. I hot oil massage my hair and keep for 2 hours before shampoo, you should let the shampoo sit for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash off. I only did this for 3 months and Im fine now. i oil and wash my hair every alternate day with normal shampoo, it helps to keep the dandruff from recurring for me. The result will vary from person to person especially women who could have underlying hormonal issues. But you should always try medicated shampoo first instead of putting juices on your head.
I was born a raised in Tennessee, I had really bad dandruff my whole life, and tried every remedy there was for it, but the only thing that had lasting effect was as soon as I left the state my dandruff would go away. I wonder if there is something about where you live that affects an induvial rate of developing dandruff.
Bruh you read my mind. I moved to Tennessee to attend law school and my dandruff is out of control! It’s never been this bad, and I thought it was just extreme stress of a new environment and exams. Now I know!
I’ve had bad psoriasis outbreaks on my scalp. I originally thought it was dandruff. Anti-dandruff shampoos did little to control it. I still had itching and flaking. I found out it was psoriasis & switched to anti-psoriasis shampoos, which helped control symptoms. TL;DR: Not all scalp itching & flaking is dandruff. It could be caused by another skin condition.
Same, I use a cream called fucicort and apply it to my scalp and it goes away for a couple weeks without putting anymore cream on, then comes back if you don’t put cream on for a while.
The cream you used that made it go away has a steroid which reduces inflammation. These creams although are good temporarily.. cause long term dependancy.all it does is hydrate that part of skin for a couple weeks and improves water retention.but when it comes back, it comes back worse
I have severe dandruff and I get it from my mom’s side of the family. I constantly get big flakes and dandruff scabs. I’ve tried everything in the book, and I just can’t get rid of it. Thanks for this video!

Then use white vinegar mixed with 1/3 gallon (1L) of filtered water in a ratio of 1:7 to rinse your hair at the end and you will instantly feel how it relaxes (water with higher acidity will help close your hair cuticles and make it look smoother and less prone to breakage)
- Damaged hair that needs treatment and dandruff? You can use 1-2 drops of argan oil (it is expensive but you only need that amount), massage the oil in your hand palms, then distribute it to your hair once it is dry without causing friction, and then use the tip of your fingers to massage the scalp.
- And most important: let the sunshine on your scalp daily, not only you will enjoy an anti-inflammatory effect, but also has antifungal effects.
More like million dollars, thank you alot, will test this tomorrow :D
Rinsing your head with apple cider vinegar and then rinsing with water can actually relieve itch for days if not months.
I agree, from my own experimentation I would also add this: never let your hair and scalp stay wet long periods. Use a hairdryer after showering, even if you have very shower hair (I have a buzz cut, and it helps a bunch!)

- Lather your shampoo until bubbly then apply to hair gently ( ROOTS ONLY & not with your nails ).
- Wash it off, then apply conditioner to your ends only. ( it damn helps )
- Then wash, don't leave hair damp and don't wrap your hair with a towel please.
-If using blow dryer try not to make it hot, cold is better ( ye, ik it takes time ).
-If using a comb afterwards then use a comb that won't make use hair hurt. ( I use a paddle brush/all purpose comb )

My parents always say it’s uncommon to have dandruff. I just sent them this video
Agreed
Nicely put.
I agree, those work for me too
See, this is why I hated microbiology in college. I'd get all itchy and creeped out. I'd leave class wondering how we are even alive at all. Took me years to go barefoot again. 😅
Are you a doctor?
I seriously never go barefoot after watching some sort of a documentary, even in the shower I wore slippers.
If you took Microbiology you probably also needed to take Immunology at which point you learn that the body is an efficient killing machine so you don’t need to be afraid of too many things.
@@maikcampbell good to hear that my body is a killing machine
I’m still recovering too even after immunology class though TT
I never had dandruff too until I moved to the UK, my scalp sores and my hair is so flaky and itchy
@@maryo1891 I know ppl in your situation who had the same issue. If it helps & no one before me told you this - it's because of the water.

Your friends sound basic

Finally understood 🙂 the reason behind the dandruff after going through so many wrong reasons

For a couple of months, my hair created dandruff. My mom says i never had dandruff before, and i know i never had, but now i have.
What can you learn from observing nails?
please elaborate
lol there are a ton of reasons you may develop a condition.
