I vote we get a list of good mechanics across the US cause having a mechanical background and being able to tackle large jobs like transmissions and data link diagnostics myself has been the only thing that's kept my head above water
There is a good group on FB called Isx solutions. Great group with a lot of recommended shops :)

I';ll jot that down in the idea book :) My RUclips is my retirement lol jk, for insurance, my we have a plan on the healthcare. gov site. Cost is around $1000 per month before subsidy.
Great points. The only thing I will add regards fuel cards. I also have TCS which is Trans Connect Services. I play both cards against one another when I plan fuel purchases. TCS doesn’t have the swipe or program fees. Sometimes there is no net difference and sometimes there is a decent difference. May only be a $20 difference but it all adds up.

Just a fyi to drivers who PAY for their fuel. East Tennessee exit 432 Newport Tennessee on i40 there’s a BP called Time out 22 in price war with the new love’s. Today it is $5.19 pump price and it does use mudflap.

I've been running as a contractor for 4 years now, and I've been on the edge of trying to go all the way and operating under my own authority. I actually took a few steps to go that direction, but the dmv in my state kinda threw a wrench in my progress. So I'm currently regrouping, and I'm planning on giving it another go soon.

Man I appreciate the info on farm bureau I never knew they had financing but I’ve been working with axe credit repair and financing to get a better replacement for my first truck I paid for cash I used it for heavy haul kinda and this year was supposed to be the time to get a new to me one I’m hoping to get catch a good deal to get back on the road with the equipment I’m use to running I’m power only at the moment I’ve been with landstar for awhile now till 4 weeks ago to get my authority and just got it activated last week I’ll be moving around the house till next year but man I was scared of getting this authority but a little even pushed me on outta being leased on to a company I was real comfortable with them doing everything but I’m feeling pretty good now I think I spent about 7000 in total to get everything started keep up the good content

Great info, Sammy... I would encourage specifically, a three axle alignment which is the best way to go and costs a few dollars more.
I also would include the trailer alignment done as they take more abuse than the tractor tires...keep all tires balanced for optimal life.

If you are going to run newer equipment get a code reader/computer it has saved me a couple times I have a Bosch HDS250 works great.

I agree with everything except the factoring part. Most brokers only need rate confirmation, invoice and proof of delivery (BOL) sent to their email. Some offer quick pay for a %. I only do this if it’s less than 2%. What I like about it is not having to worry about contracts with factoring companies or them coming back saying they weren’t paid a certain load since this can happen even with non-recourse factoring.
Agreed partly. Even a non recourse is not a non recourse lol let a broker not pay and you’ll be charged 🤣
All that really does is protect you from the broker going bankrupt

I have the tsd fuel card but have not used since they currently don’t have commercial accounts for trucking companies just yet, (coming this summer). They only have RV accounts as of now. So for owner ops, how do you deal with IFTA quarterly filings, since you’re not able to have your trucking company’s name and truck # on the fuel receipts? IFTA requires fuel receipts to have both the trucking company’s name and truck #.
As long as You have the means to prove it’s your card you have nothing to worry about. That’s only a preventive measure to make sure people doesn’t use false receipts 👊😎

Getting an authority is a no brainer. Now get insurance and get your compliance up to date then figure out where your freights coming from then hopefully you have 1 years operating capital incase you get burned by brokers have freight damage blah blah blah. Good luck! But hey you got your authority

No, shippers and brokers are picky with trailers tho. 10 years or newer and good grade is the standard.

Hey….. man…. Question…. Not complaining. But… I started my business back in 2014 as a owner op. Book my own loads after not having much luck with with DAT and other load boards. I finally got into. Shipping containers. And did very well. Until 2021 rolled around. I ended up closing shop April of this year. I wasn’t able to versify my trailer. It was specific to shipping containers. Now I have no money and bad credit. I’m about to die to get back into the truck. Even though the market with fuel/Def anything else you can think of since big bad C19 came around. So…. Do you have a magic formula in mind that you know would help a poor sap like me?
