if you remove the factory oil cooler assemble you no longer have oil pressure relief valves, you will be relying 100% on the oil filter pressure relief valve. Pretty sure Nissan puts them on all their motors for a reason. There is a plug in the block that can be pulled out and a new valve can be installed if your going to use one of these adapters.
I’ve had a taarks block adapter, grex thermostat filter relocation and pwr oil cooler waiting to be fitted to my Stagea for about 9 months now but can’t be arsed to pull the intake off and make brackets and lines haha. Good work but all rb’s need this
For my RX8 rebuild I installed a sandwich plate so I could run oil temp and pressure gauges. The location of the oil filter is behind the intake under the firewall, adding the plate for gauges makes it very tight to get to. Still not as bad as the oil filter location on this engine though. I am planning on getting a relocation kit soon which is why I clicked on this video.
Glad to have you here mate 🤘🏼 Surprised filter relocation aren't on more people's mods list, makes life so much easier in the future. Sounds like you might even benefit from the new style Bosch pressure/temp sensor - 1 sensor gives both values, saves on real estate in the engine bay
Excellent video Blake. My son just bought the Taarks kit for his s15’s sr20, also a prick to get at, and I was wondering about adding a cooler. I imagine you’d just go from the outlet of the filter block to the cooler and then to the engine? A thermostat control probably isn’t required in the Queensland climate? He was going to do the same as you and see what temp this new engine runs at before installing a cooler. Looks like a well made kit though. I think I’d prefer this billet one to some of the, high-end brand, cast ones and it has the M20 thread so you can use the stock filter. Cheers.
Yeah exactly right with the cooler plumbing 👍🏻 thermostat definitely not required, just let the cooler do it's thing if you end up installing it. My oil temps have been fine so far, come a hot summers day I'll be rechecking to see how it copes
Another great video mate, keep up the great work! Wasn’t even considering an oil filter relocation for my GTR but this video has convinced me to get one.
The worst oil filter location I have ever worked with is a 2001 Toyota 4Runner, 2wd, 3.4L V6. No way to use any type of oil filter wrench except for a strap type wrench but even that needs to be a skinny one. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the easiest oil filter I have ever worked on was an early small block Ford V8 in a 67 Mustang. Just reach from on top of the engine bay an unscrew.
Content is getting better and better. Nice work man. I personally don't think its too bad changing a oil filter on my 260RS. Ratchet with a claw, move the oil filter towards the back near the brake booster. Rotate it point up and it slips out. It's not that easy but yea. I have a HKS oil cooler kit with a thermostat oil filter block. Only think the kit is missing is a sandwhich plate. I have been eyeing off the Taarks plate. It looks good. Only thing I would of like your mention as I have been told time and time again by the GOD guys. Keep the stock oil pressure sensor there for the dash. But the accuracy is trash. They add a second sensor on the oil filter block or the sandwhich plate and run that to the ECU. Can't wait to see this thing on the road! Stag meet here we come.
Yep I've got the stock sensor mounted to the plate on the block. And then I've got my Bosch pressure/temp sensor down on tbe oil filter, which is what will be talking the haltech
Yeah going to see how the oil handles the heat to begin with. It'll only ever be a weekend car, but if the heat starts to creep up ill get a pwr cooler in there.
the opel insignia diesel is a bugger,or the vw can type one on the front that aways tears its nut off and you havent the angle for a proper wrench. little petrol 1.6 i think. nothing as bad as this.
Not really. Most decent filters these days have anti drain back valves, so once the oil system is primed it will operate in the exact same way OEM did.
The 13B on the RX8 is not fun to get to. You can see it but you can barely get a hand there... :') (still less involved than on an RB, but messy.. Yes. Especially since oil that doesn't get caught will sit on top of the engine :')
I know a car that is worse, 5.0L Coyotte V8 that is in the newer Mustangs. They are up on the inside of the passenger wheel well and you have about a a 5" gap to fit your skinny hands in and loosen it by hand, no possible way to use a tool. It drips absolutely everywhere
Bad oil filter location...Volvo B230FT. Perhaps not as bad as the RB...but the motor mount, alternator, turbo, manifold (usually hot AF) and filter kinda all occupy the same space. Failing motor mounts make it even worse.
Couldn't include lawn clips in this vid...it would've broke the internet. Stripes are going off atm, moved from 10mm to 12mm cuts coming into winter, and she's popping 🤘🏼🌱
Damn. I thought my 91 toyota 4x4 pickup was a hassel. The front right tire is removed to gain access to the filter. I personally would not buy that car for that reason. What a pain that must be. Yikes

Scrubbing through the video footage, it looks as if Blake’s block had the plug removed. Not sure if he did it or if it came like that.

Try Honda Civic 2009 it's right above a catalytic converter and it's recessed to the right into the motor and you can only get it with three fingers
the cadillac devilles with the 4.9. the one i have is a 1993. they have THE most hardest oil filter change ever.
My BG8Z engine from the 90s Mazda familia GTX oil filter location sucks too.
This is so much better than at the strut tower!! Nice!!
Couldn't agree more. Can't take credit for the idea though as I absolutely copied this location from deans gtr we did probably 20 something eps ago 😅
rams hemi oil filter is about as hard if not harder and messier
I don’t remember what year but the early Audi RS6 you had to lower the subframe to get the filter out. This was the V10 models.
That was sick I want to do the same to my Honda and connect a oil cooler system with a termo sandwich plate
I have done they same on my gtr. Best thing ever

Only a 1 beer difficulty rating. Might have to do it myself then to save getting yelled at for the mess.
Easily escalated to a 10 beer rating if you drink quick enough 😏🍻
Another great video mate, keep up the great work! Wasn’t even considering an oil filter relocation for my GTR but this video has convinced me to get one.
100% must! Haha, itll take away any excuses for not changing oil regularly!

Great video bro, quick question were did you end up connecting the oil pressure sensor?
Oil temp/press sensor was connected down where the filter screws on.
You love those infomercials.
Also I’ve been told JetSki’s have the hardest to replace oil filters
Content is getting better and better. Nice work man.

Only thing I would add is an oil cooler kit at the top of the radiator / grille area would be a big benefit on an RB26.
and perhaps angle the bracket so the filter points downwards. So when you undo it the oil doesn't piss out everywhere (when it's on it's side).
Yeah going to see how the oil handles the heat to begin with. It'll only ever be a weekend car, but if the heat starts to creep up ill get a pwr cooler in there.
Nice, I did not know TAARKS made the oil filter bracket as well!
Great video man! Oil changes suck on 26's, will 100% be doing this mod on my new build😊
the opel insignia diesel is a bugger,or the vw can type one on the front that aways tears its nut off and you havent the angle for a proper wrench.
little petrol 1.6 i think.
nothing as bad as this.
Vg30, located an inch above the starter
Are you not worried about the added time the oil takes to get to the main bearings through all that hose?
Not really. Most decent filters these days have anti drain back valves, so once the oil system is primed it will operate in the exact same way OEM did.
I’ve waited so long for this video 🙏
Thanks for sharing mate ❤

Nice job Blake.
Nothing beats the satisfaction of doing a job yourself and well : )
Couldn't agree more.
To look back and know you did it is a feeling you can't even explain to people. 🤘🏼
What about the oil filter pressure relief valve?
Any of honda j series the control arm hit the oil filter if hit hard bumps or hard pulls cracks the filter
Doing the lords work
Please drive down and around Terrigal more often!!! Wanna see this beast in person 😍
Thats the plan mate. Just gotta squeeze my way off these jack stands first hahaha
Hell yea definitely need the link or put a post up in the aus stagea page would love one for my stag bro thanks again for another awesome video ❤️❤️
I'll post in stagea group later today🤘🏼🤘🏼
I've also just added the link in the description.
Cheers for the comment legend
I want this done for the RB
In a 32 it's really not that bad, rag under the filter and a 1/4 ratchet with correct filter cup and its off in a few mins..
I wish I could relate hahaha. Never once had it go smoothly/cleanly
This is my thing thanks for that
Tooheys dry's give me savage hangovers lol. Love the content your car is sick
Awesome video man. Very tempting to do the same on my Stagea too. Maybe one day when I get the confidence to not fk up a speed flow fitting
Easy man, back yourself in. Especially 100 series hose, very forgiving to work with
Looks super tidy man. Great work.
Cheers mate 🤘🏼

In the wheel well!! Hahaha genius
Not to mention the ridiculous plastic quarter-turn plug. I hate that thing so much! I might do a relocation on my Mustang too.
Can I get that for an American car/truck?
Bad oil filter location...Volvo B230FT.
Perhaps not as bad as the RB...but the motor mount, alternator, turbo, manifold (usually hot AF) and filter kinda all occupy the same space. Failing motor mounts make it even worse.
Tidy work brother!
Cheers mate 🤘🏼
Why sideways? Would it make less mess if it was vertical?
Clearances. Vertical would put it with too low to the ground, or too close to the belts
A worse location? For sure. R60 Mini Countryman S/JCW or any of the Minis with the N18 engine.
What engine and car is this video for?
Good job!
New boosted Ford rangers
Loved the video man keep it up :)
I had nightmares about the location of that stock filter when I got my r32 back in 2017. horror times haha.
Relocation was the best decision
I couldnt bring myself to do it anymore. Hands seem to be 2 sizes too big, hoses and shit going in every direction 🤣 I've got ptsd from that mf
@@BuiltByBlake and the cuts on your hands and worry that you'll damage hoses/wires in the process.
What are your top 3 beers?
Now we are getting to the good stuff.
1. Stone & woods
2. Carlton drys
3. Mountain goat summer ale
Cheers
Billet parts, successful install, a dog; well deserved beer(s). Great vid.
How’re the stripes?
Couldn't include lawn clips in this vid...it would've broke the internet.
Stripes are going off atm, moved from 10mm to 12mm cuts coming into winter, and she's popping 🤘🏼🌱
NA Miata. You do it entirely by feel.
Just had a look at one🤯 looks like the same bloke that designed the RB did the Miata oil filter too hahaha
@@BuiltByBlake Yeah, they're pretty much in the same spot, just I could see the one on my RB to figure out where it was!
The 2JZ oil filter is in a frustrating location as well.
I hope to experience it for myself one day, definitely got a soft spot for 2j's
What about the oil cooler?
Factory oil cooler on an RB does next to nothing. Have had zero issues since removing it.
I heard the oil temp goes up if you get to remove it.
🤙🍕
Damn. I thought my 91 toyota 4x4 pickup was a hassel. The front right tire is removed to gain access to the filter. I personally would not buy that car for that reason. What a pain that must be. Yikes
Disappointed with the lack of turf update on this clip.
Take what you can get bud. This ain't Burke's backyard...(as much as I'd love it to be)
@@BuiltByBlake lol. I think that’s about as good as a ‘Bill Cosby’ reference these days. 😂
2020 RAM Bighorn 5.7 Hemi. HORRIBLE filter location
Fuck yeah 👍
A spinna!? a fucken wut m8? issa wrench
No such thing as a wrench in AUS mate...spanners or GTFO😂
Turbo diesel volkswagen transporter oil filter location is pretty bad
Comment below... ;)
This guy gets it 😏
Yd25
pulsar gtir , shockingly bad location , must be a nissan thing lol
lincolin mark 8. definitely the worst filter location
fkn a1
Nb miatas are a bitch.na miatas are simple. I dont get it.
