Uploaded 8 days before Yooka-Laylee's release. Dawn of the 1st day. One week remaining... This is my favorite game of the Nintendo 64. It was hard as HECK, I can't deny it, with Mad Jack being the hardest boss for me. You should also upload the three infernal races of the game. The first one is against the damn beetle in Angry Aztec, the second one is against the rabbit in Fungi Forest (after the warm up race), and the last one is one more time against the damn beetle in Crystal Caves.
In my eyes, K. Rool in this game was one of the greatest last levels of all time. You pretty much use every single thing you have learned in the entire game to beat him. It was just a very well put together finale.
Tbh it would of been cool if all the villains were like that not that you have to die every character just that every character had they’re own way of fighting a boss so you could stay the character you like I guess it’s more of a story game tho you know “this” has to happen
I also like how it's a boxing match it's both funny and awesome at the same time, It's one of the reasons why K Rool is one of my favorite Nintendo villains of all time.
Nintendo and Rare will FOREVER be my favorite duo in gaming history. The magic and style they had in all their games throughout the 90's and early 2000's will never be able to be matched to me. I would KILL for a reunion of some sort and get another Banjo or Donkey Kong out of them, that Microsoft deal still makes my heart hurt haha. Come back home Rare. We miss you.
*@Consarn:* Intimidating for kids' game standards. Look at that giant dragon in the Aztec level, don't tell me he isn't physically imposing. The way the lighting from the magma glows off his model. The explosive punch that his fireballs have. How he constantly circles around you in this arena, hovering over your shoulder no matter where you go. Even the Factory level boss. Despite being cartoony, it manages to give off a somewhat creepy vibe with how it just stalks you around this pitch-black maze of platforms. On previous systems, you would never really find boss battles with such a heated, tense atmosphere. During the N64 days, games started to become a lot more cinematic in feel, and with this, boss battles grew into more of a serious event. I mean, there were some SNES games that could achieve this, like Super Ghouls n' Ghosts, but generally boss battles were seen as a small little detraction at the end of a stage, as opposed to this dramatic scene that demands all of the player's attention. This is one of my favorite things about the system. Obviously by modern standards, this isn't anything too remarkable. We've gotten games like Shadows of the Colossus. But you have to look back at when this was made. Playing this as an extremely young kid for the first time... its pretty impressive.
It’s probably a mixture of the sound design (the frantic music, the sound effects, etc), the dim and dreary lighting, as well as the imposing stature of the bosses themselves.
see I would agree but to me the jack in the box was the worst. always have trouble on them due to bein a bag o nerves whenever I see them hopping my way
These were some of the finest boss battles to ever come out of the 64 bit era, and Mad Jack to this day remains the toughest boss battle ive ever faced.
Yeah I had the players guide it made it clear her only advantage was she can jump diagonally. Mad Jack and puftoss were gimmicky boss fights which was disappointing. Mad Jack just a smidge less as you did rely on Tiny's hair whirl ability. Lanky was fully gimmicky with absolutely no acknowledgement of his moves. Any Kong could have done that battle.
@@Jopo1226 Didn't you have to use either Enguarde or Baboon Balloon to access the boat race that uses the boat used in the Puftoss battle? They probably thought it was a good idea that needed more exposure. Joke's on them, I never even knew there was a race in Gloomy Galleon until I saw it in a video years later. Not only that, but the boat controls horribly.
Childhood memories. Mad Jack was my favorite evil boss character. He did, not going lie scared me but that what made him so memorable for me because I love scary things as a child
I beat him with my last quarter watermelon on my first try as a kid... to this day 20 years later it's my most memorable boss fight win. This video reminds me how tough it was
King Kutout was basically Nintendo thinking "Hmmmm what should we put for Creepy Castle's boss? A ghost? Nah thats cliché...." "Oh I have an idea boss! How about a giant cut-out of King K. Rool? It's pretty spooky" "And lasers!! Kids like lasers nowadays!" "Great idea! Johnson, you're promoted! Now go people, make me a cut-out boss fight! Go go go!"
I had no problem with King Kut Out - the hardest one was the Dragonfly you fought as Chunky Kong. That asshole always won the island-sinking term. Mahadfadah dat dragon.
I remember Pufftoss and Dogadon rematch being some of the absolutely hardest bosses of the game for me. Pufftoss was very anxiety inducing with the limited visibility and the time limits on the star hoops, and the Dagadon rematch was really scary for me because of him trying to take down the battle field into the lava, which would be an instant death.
This game was so scary, fun, exciting and difficult as a kid... And the graphics were amazing. Never beat the last boss, cause i couldn't figure out how to get in the tower 😐
It probably takes a lot of courage to even handle having the ability to shrink yourself considering the fact that most of your enemies are either much bigger than you or are at least big enough to hurt you, of course she isn’t scared
As soon as I clicked on this video, I skipped straight to 13:26. I swear, my entire life I always thought you had no choice but to take damage at that point. Now I have to go play the entire game again so I can go not take damage there. I hope the satisfaction is worth it.
This was one of the best games ever made. The studio I bet was really on point, then the creativity with the game and then with the art style. Basically this game is legendary and it will forever be one of the greatest games i've ever played in my childhood. Rare did an amazing job. If Donkey Kong 64 gets remastered it will be a blessing 😔
I'm 33. I beat this game in 2001. Its BY FAR a top 3 game of all time for me and I'm a Zelda nerd. I need this rebooted for Switch and soon. There was nothing like RARE in the late 90s early 2000s. Banjo was amazing as well. I miss those days.
I swear this is my favorite game of all time! Memories! Thanks for the upload! My favorite boss was the Creepy Castle! I never played Banjo Kazooie but I will try it sometime as many people compare to Donkey Kong 64! This made me love Tiny King and I was so mad she wasn't in Melee!
It was Armydillo for me. Shortly after, Wrinkly Kong's ghost sent me bawling all over again. Keep in mind this was from my watching my dad play, and not me playing myself.
Not me, I actually thought that it was pretty hilarious how Mad Jack sounded like Donald Duck. Actually, i still think Mad Jack sounds like Donald Duck.
That jack in the box was terrifying. The suspense of it jumping onto your pad as you barely escape to the next one. Also i never understood the Fungi Forest Boss, like I either won or didn't, i couldn't figure it out.
In fungi forest the trick is to punch a few times normally, then you do a super punch here and there and that will do far more damage and also that’s how to win it
I'm concerned with how K. Rool was attracted to a monkey of all things- doesn't even ask either he just tries to get past the bindings and get her.. I don't wanna know how that would work.
When I saw Mad Jack's face the first time I was thinking "Mad Duck......?" And Funky just gave K. Rool THE BOOT!!! I couldn't stop laughing at the ending!
The irony of Chunky is that while he’s clearly the scaredy cat of the Kongs, he’s the only one who actually makes physical contact with all his bosses. He’s not reliant on TNT, pad, or star gimmicks. He can actually punch them. Even Creepy Castle when all the Kongs do make contact when hitting King Kut Out, I still count that. He quite literally delivers the final blow of the game (for the main Kongs anyway)
Thank you for uploading this! I never got to see the King Krusha K. Rool fight. Once my dad wasn't able to play the game with me anymore because he had a stroke I didn't feel like playing. He would have loved this!
I don't think so. You should look closer to the sprites of King K. Rool, Kaptain K. Rool and Baron K. Roolenstein. They do have tails. The only game where he doesn't have a tail is in DK: King Of Swing.
Ok RUclips, you have literally convinced me to finally face my all time childhood nightmare (no. Surprisingly not mad jack), army dillo! Yes you heard me right. Reason now that I see: environmentally overwhelming as hell! Especially for a 4 year old at the time back in the early 2000’s being introduced to video games. I RAN to my room in fear whenever I suspected it was on screen. Now that I’ve finally gotten over this easy boss. The concept is honestly awesome and RARE nailed all the details for an engaging, on your toes but easy battle. Some people say it sucks you face it twice but I’m glad as I’d get to kick it’s butt twice for terrifying me for 20 years as dumb as that honestly sounds. That and it’s second fight is better literally everything wise. That’s my story of this game.
Sounds familiar. This was my very first videogame back when I was 7, and army dillo scared the shit out of me. Actually took me pretty long to beat him because he intimidated me into eating fireballs. There were a lot of pretty scary moments in this game over all, and a lot of really frustrating ones too, but it always kept you coming back for more, just out of curiosity to see what the next world was gonna look like.
I loved this game so much I literally cried when I beat it. It was so hard cause I didn't have the book to help at first. Didn't know I had to skip forward to unlock tiny and chunky and go back for lanky later or however that worked.
DK64's bosses are as awesome as the ones in Banjo-Tooie. I just wanted that we had a new boss in Fungi Forest and Crystal Caves instead of rematching Dogadon and Army Dillo.
Bruno Bahia I don't have a problem with the Dogadon rematch because of how awesome that fight is, Dogadon becomes much more fun to fight with the new mechanics, but Army Dillo is still pretty boring and easy in his rematch.
+David Pederson we fight against Dogadon after Army Dillo, but the rematch against Dogadon is before Army Dillo. The interval between the two fights against Dogaton is pretty short, isn't? This bothers me, but we didn't notice it because the worlds are so huge, then we had a lot of playing time before facing the boss again. Even there is a mechanic that turns the battle harder, I'd rather prefer a new boss
Honestly, I feel like this whole game was made from creators who had fetishes. The armadillo was someone who likes to see people get executed by an electric chair, the dragon fly was by someone who likes to touch females (you can see how it always tries to protect its chest by twirling around), the k rool's shoe thing is an obvious foot fetish, the mad jack looks like a pedophile, the puffer fish is basically the same fetish as the aramadillo, and the cutout is a fetish over dismembering a body. These creators should be behind bars!
@@kennyboy1435 I have one thing to edit on this. The aramadillo is not someone who not only likes to see someone be executed, he may LIKE to be executed, almost a BDSM fetish.
True, but what made it a bit of a hassle to get through were the collectibles. A lot of them were placed in such a way, it forced you to return several times with a different character. But, having played the game myself, I might be criticizing it too much. Btw, I know a secret to defeating Mad Jack in a cheap and easy way.
No, I mean in a different way. The way I defeated Mad Jack was by jumping off the platforms, then just sitting back on the platform that they return you to the battlefield with in the intentions of you jumping back on. Instead, I just sat back on it until he started throwing fireballs or lasers and then jumped back onto the battlefield and damaged him. Rinse, dry, repeat.
And Lanky never really got a solo boss where you use his skills. Pufftoss just had you drive circles in the boat and King Kut Out was just about timing the cannon, plus he had to share that fight with the other Kongs.
Lanky Kong: *Hears a noise... sees nothing at first... turns on light... checks light with his hand... then looks forward and sees big boss fish* "Fuck This!" *Drives boat away and leaves*
The rush of adrenaline when defeating a boss that took you so much of your time and energy is an amazing feeling. For me, it’s to the point where I scream “YES!” or “FINALLY!”
It's an awesome game, but it's a shame RARE ran out of boss ideas after Gloomy Galleon Plus I love how Lanky still looks shell shocked after defeating Puftoss XD
Poor graphics? That's simply what a 1996 system could do! And even then, lots of N64 games have good graphics for the time! Paper Mario is even sprite-based, rare for a Nintendo 64 game.
The Nintendo 64 games were expensive. I remember in December in 1999, as a child I always wanted this videogame, but I decided to buy Super Smash Bros. 🤔 This game looks so funny! 😀😁😂😃😄😅😆😉🐵🐒🙈🙉🙊
I have some theories... 1. K. Rool was on a Budget. 2.To maintain an "E" rating, only one Missile was allowed (used by Army Dillo - 2nd and why Funky fired a Boot instead). 3. Fireballs were the easiest to animate on N64 Hardware. 4. Mingella and Blobbelda raided the Kremling Stockpile and used the stolen goods for constructing B.O.B.,Weldar, Mingy Jongo, and the HAG 1.
I never knew what the Coins with the Symbols and those other collectibles with the RARE and N64 symbols were for, I was so young and neither me or my bros knew what the fuck they were for Lol.. either way this game brings back really happy memories lol.. growing old sucks...
It's funny than in the DK Rap They talk about Chunky as a super strong and corageous guy but he is so scared of the boss that he supplicates the dragon to not kill him. Even Tiny wasn't scared...
I had the strategy guide years back and I remember reading about Dogadon and that fire wall he makes it said it was impossible to not take damage from. It never said you could hang from the edge of the map SMH 🤦🏻♂️ awesome video!!!

I would have found it really cool if they made a Terminator reference in which when you fight Dogadon for the second time with Chunky he would be all burnt up and Terminator looking
Nintendo remake this game or port it! This game brings back so many memories when I was a kid. I would play this with my older brother and we would take the system to our cousin's house and we would play this game. We wouldn't sleep hell even on Christmas eve we stayed up and played this until our parents told us to go sleep. I love this game so damn much! This and the Banjo games are damn awesome! Now we have a few of these games...
Rare were the gods of 3D platform games. Yes they had some issues but after playing with them for soo long u get use to them plus u knew how to maneuver the cameras and stuff easily now.
God Bless Voodo ! Shadow efects, transparent water, fire efects amazing, explosions efects, light efects is powerful... Great Effects. The Best of your time. Ahh.. bump mapping !
@@AlphaladZXA Hey... Go to google. I not work for you...Anyway .... Bump mapping is a technique in computer graphics for simulating bumps and wrinkles on the surface of an object. This is achieved by perturbing the surface normals of the object and using the perturbed normal during lighting calculations.
Rule infractions As per the unified rules of boxing established by the Association of Boxing Commisions and Combat Sport: - K. Rool wears a fake boxing champion's belt on his chest during the fight. This counts as body armor, which is not allowed. - Instead of boxing shorts, he wears overalls. - His overalls goes below his knees, which is illegal. - He tucks his overalls into his shoes. - One of his boxing shoes is broken. For the boxer's safety, boxing shoes must be in perfect conditions, otherwise these must be replaced by the venue. - His crown counts as headgear. Professional boxing don't allow boxers to wear headgear making his crown illegal. - He often sits on the ground. This counts as him being knocked down. - The act of attacking with shaking the floor by heavy-sitting counts as an illegal maneuver. - He often shows his back to his opponent. This counts as throwing the match, which is not allowed. - He often makes himself invisible. While there are no rules regarding the use of magic due to it's questionable existence in real life, this would be illegal due to the potential of stalling the match. - He often uses the ropes for attacks, which is not allowed as the ropes are placed in there to not make the boxer to fall off the ring. - Moves not done using a clenched fist are illegal making his corporal attack illegal. - One of his attacks has him using his boxing gloves as boomerangs. This counts as an illegal maneuver. · This counts as a double infraction, as it's seen that when he does this attack he takes out his glove from his hand. Boxers are not allowed to take off their gloves until the match finishes. · There's a chance that his boxing gloves has illegal foreign objects on them since they can fly for a while. - K. Rool often has plans to destroy Donkey Kong Island. While this is not boxing-relevant, this is still illegal. - At the beginning, he crushes the microphone guy that present the boxers, which is a action that would result in him being banned from boxing for life. - He taunts during the match, which is not allowed in boxing. - K. Rool hasn't a U.S. boxing license. - The ring has the picture of K. Rool's face, this counts as two infractions: the ring was only made by him (meaning this is a illegal boxing stadium) and the picture counts as personal branding, which is not allowed. - It is also implied that K. Rool is not a actual boxer and only made this fight for Donkey Kong and his friends, meaning this is not a proper boxing fight. - K. Rool is a crocodile, meaning he would not be allowed in boxing due to animal cru3lty reasons, even if he is very intelligent. King Krusha K. Rool has 22.5 infractions. (At least he is not so dirty as Aran Ryan from Punch-Out Wii...)

Nintendo: What bosses scared you the most in Donkey Kong 64?
Person 1: Mad Jack.
Person 2: King Kut-Out.
Me: *YES*
Mad Jack is creepy
Agreed! They were both a pain in the ass too!
This game had really fun and creative boss designs 😀
I swear this is my favorite game of all time! Memories! Thanks for the upload! My favorite boss was the Creepy Castle! I never played Banjo Kazooie but I will try it sometime as many people compare to Donkey Kong 64! This made me love Tiny King and I was so mad she wasn't in Melee!
The tiny king is female?
@@ilikecurry2345 yes
Banjo Kazooie is easily one of the best adventure games in N64's library. It's TONS of fun! Only it's short and very, VERY easy.
Let's face it. Everyone just clicked on this video to see the Mad Jack battle, the one which traumatized us all as children.
Well, maybe some of us.
Yes
It was Armydillo for me. Shortly after, Wrinkly Kong's ghost sent me bawling all over again. Keep in mind this was from my watching my dad play, and not me playing myself.
The Mad Jack fight gave me anxiety, honestly. Just the way they paced him so he's always _just_ about to land on you.
Me too.
Not me, I actually thought that it was pretty hilarious how Mad Jack sounded like Donald Duck. Actually, i still think Mad Jack sounds like Donald Duck.
Perfect game to be remade on the switch
Facts dude!!! I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Victor Violante They can’t cause of Microsoft :(
Switch, 3ds all of the other Nintendo stuff they did a remake on Zelda oot for 3ds
If so, why Nintendo manage to put it on the Wii U virtual store?
@@gamecockmickey2123 not true they can just cause rare is owned by microsoft doesnt mean they cant do it
I remember staying up all night as a kid playing this game. So nostalgic !
i like how Mad Jack sounds like Donald Duck
WerewolfMonkey oh my god he does
Remember that Donald has flown into a psychotic rage fueled by only hunger and a desire to kill.
WerewolfMonkey He does because his voice is actually old unused Donald Duck voice clips.
Jesus, I didn't even notice that.
No way? Do you have a source for this info?
That jack in the box was terrifying. The suspense of it jumping onto your pad as you barely escape to the next one.
Also i never understood the Fungi Forest Boss, like I either won or didn't, i couldn't figure it out.
In fungi forest the trick is to punch a few times normally, then you do a super punch here and there and that will do far more damage and also that’s how to win it
The nostalgia is physically painful
Kenneth Melo IF IT SHOOTS YA IT'S GONNA HURT
Just like his coconut gun that fires in spurts
Hey, mister K. Rool, quick tip in how to win at life: DO NOT MAKE INFINITE SUPPLY OF TNT BARRELS IN THE BOSS CHAMBERS.
I'm concerned with how K. Rool was attracted to a monkey of all things- doesn't even ask either he just tries to get past the bindings and get her.. I don't wanna know how that would work.
Maybe he just wanted tits.
You might find that on DeviantArt.

King K Rool don't forget to write
Mad jack sounds like Donald Duck when you attack him
To quote the Don.
“K. Rool...you’re fired!”
@@Mrbirdthebest9721he does!
This game was way ahead of its time in animation and coding
Rare was far ahead with their sound design honestly
The irony of Chunky is that while he’s clearly the scaredy cat of the Kongs, he’s the only one who actually makes physical contact with all his bosses. He’s not reliant on TNT, pad, or star gimmicks. He can actually punch them. Even Creepy Castle when all the Kongs do make contact when hitting King Kut Out, I still count that. He quite literally delivers the final blow of the game (for the main Kongs anyway)
Well he is physically the strongest of the bunch, and he can grow in size.
@@waters228_91 which makes it even funnier that he’s the cowardly one of the group
Thank you for uploading this! I never got to see the King Krusha K. Rool fight. Once my dad wasn't able to play the game with me anymore because he had a stroke I didn't feel like playing. He would have loved this!
I just realized something... this is the only game where K. Rool has a tail.
I don't think so. You should look closer to the sprites of King K. Rool, Kaptain K. Rool and Baron K. Roolenstein. They do have tails. The only game where he doesn't have a tail is in DK: King Of Swing.
Nicholas Miller yeah the rare version of k.rool has a tail and the paon version has no tail
Deeeeeeeee
He has one in Smash Ultimate, though it's much shorter than in this one.
@@chalexgamer3947 That's not true. The king k rool in Super smash bros ultimate doesnt have a tail
If K. Rool went invisible, and then Chunky went invisible,
how did anyone in the audience see King K Rool go down?
MovieGuruThe
Just one question, was the invisibility for both characters a glitch in this game?
Cassidy Jay Williams it was not a glitch

@@tedgruver7618 No, it's a power-up!

Bruno Bahia no offense but your name Bruno just made me think of Bruno mars
Bruno Bahia I agree. The bosses in banjo-tooie were a little more challenging to me though. Like Weldar, Lord who fak fak etc.
@Taven Saenz it's okay lol
The fact that the final boss has you go in k rool's shoe is generally the weirdest way of hurting k rool.
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 bitch what the fuck
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 You have to be taking the piss.
@@kennyboy1435 I have one thing to edit on this. The aramadillo is not someone who not only likes to see someone be executed, he may LIKE to be executed, almost a BDSM fetish.
you make the boss fights seem so easy 😊
Not the final boss. From what I've seen, it's hard to get through it without suffering any damage. As for the rest of them...yeah.
RainMist86 That's just what Prosafia DOES.
I found only the 3rd boss and King K. Rool hard, the rest were average to be perfectly honest :)
It’s kinda sad how Chunky never got an original boss, he just got a Dogadon rematch
And Lanky never really got a solo boss where you use his skills. Pufftoss just had you drive circles in the boat and King Kut Out was just about timing the cannon, plus he had to share that fight with the other Kongs.
Or diddy never got to show his skills for the easy dogadon fight.
That could've been a fun aireal battle but they probably ran out of Dev time
Damn I love this game, ahh the memories :')
Elian Rodriguez stop it, ur making me want to be a kid again :,(
U can still play this but in mobile that's what I'm doing playing it on my phone and Ik this is old

That fight against King K.Rool is one of my favourite final bosses in gaming.
Lanky Kong: *Hears a noise... sees nothing at first... turns on light... checks light with his hand... then looks forward and sees big boss fish* "Fuck This!" *Drives boat away and leaves*
No, Lanky's all like "GEE BEASTIES" and faints for exactly 2 seconds.
Yeah I wish that happened (I think Puftoss is hard)

The rush of adrenaline when defeating a boss that took you so much of your time and energy is an amazing feeling. For me, it’s to the point where I scream “YES!” or “FINALLY!”
@@Stonex180 that's how it felt to beat Dogadon in the rematch. That fight frustrated me so much!

It just occurred to me that Mad Jack screams like Donald Duck
Jordyn Gregory That's because his voice was originally supposed to be used in Donald Duck cartoons. No joke.
Well now I know something I didn't know thanks
Dispentryporter Surely you're jesting!
It's an awesome game, but it's a shame RARE ran out of boss ideas after Gloomy Galleon
Plus I love how Lanky still looks shell shocked after defeating Puftoss XD
Yeah he's frozen stiff, goofy as hell but you know he's still terrified over what just happened
I thinks it’s noted with hardware limitations
Even though they reused Dogadon in fungi forest the mechanics for that fight were pretty cool and creative

For the N64 having poor graphics, it had some scary shit.
Poor graphics? That's simply what a 1996 system could do! And even then, lots of N64 games have good graphics for the time! Paper Mario is even sprite-based, rare for a Nintendo 64 game.
Especially mad jack.....
The Nintendo 64 games were expensive. I remember in December in 1999, as a child I always wanted this videogame, but I decided to buy Super Smash Bros. 🤔 This game looks so funny! 😀😁😂😃😄😅😆😉🐵🐒🙈🙉🙊

Army Dillo Rematch, Dogadon first battle, Mad Jack and King K. Rool Battle has a very nice and impressive Soundtrack :)
Desafiar a K.Rool era una locura. había que tener precisión, para darle al final en el creepy Castle y en le Ring. este juego tenía todo.
So THATS how you dodge the big fire wall when you fight Dogadon the second time. Came here just to see that.
Man, pufftoss and mad jack are the most nostalgic for me, terrified me as a kid, but I still loved them
Dogadon man just the sound design on that bastard alone was super memorable
back when Donkey kong walked on 2 feet and not all 4s ah good times
Why does nearly every boss in this game shoot fireballs?
Because k. Rool bought those fireballs in bulk and by dammit he’s gonna use them!
it was cool back in the good old days
The fireballs are just as bad as Wile E. Coyote's "Acme" shit though...

"Wow, how original"
"And you beat it by throwing barrels"
"Daring aren't we!"

Rule infractions
As per the unified rules of boxing established by the Association of Boxing Commisions and Combat Sport:
(At least he is not so dirty as Aran Ryan from Punch-Out Wii...)
i remember every bit of this when i played as a kid the memories aint leavin :3
