I want to get one. Are they expensive to maintain? Like what do you average spend for it monthly and does it have health problems that cause them to frequently go to the vet
@@moneygamer4308 Well, I just put my jack down a few months ago. She was 16 years old and the best friend I ever had. RIP Lilly. In my experience, they are healthy dogs that don't require a lot of vet trips. Common health issues with jacks can be allergies and oral health issues- that being said, make sure their teeth are clean if you can. A grain-free diet can cost around $30 a month for a small dog, so again, not very expensive. I hope this helps a bit!
Very true I would never consider a different breed. My truck has 6500 hours on it 3500 of that is idle time to air condition while he waits for me. Dont do this with a puppy but once they are very experienced in a car and several years old they would rather be in your truck than home or in the office.

I love mine, so happy to see the video about them, and the opinion of the expert, excellent, mine has so much drive, and also is so loving, agree with the versatility, she can be running and jumping and also a cuddler.

I also have a JRT mix, he is amazing, also o good watchdog, he needs to be able to smell the visitor before he can come in, not that he's aggressive but he needs to be shure about who comes in he can be a bit suspicious and can't stop barking iff the person at the door doesn't want him to come near. I have a 9mth old jack Russell staffishire bull terrier mix and he's such a smart dog. He has the body of the staffy and the personality of a jack. I can't wait to watch him grow to be an amazing dog.
One day I was looking for a boxer on Craigslist about 6 years ago , I seen a nice looking add for boxer puppies for free !!! I contacted them and got a girl who I named cortana , few months later I was like she still weighs around 12lbs. Needless to say I couldn’t of been happier to have been scammed out of a boxer with my love bug jack Russell
These Dogs are amazing, mime helped me through sickness. I can't let her down..I Will take of her until she dies...still many years to come, she's 8 years old.
My first 2 JR ladies lived to 17 and 18. (Mollie and Forri) After deciding to never get another dog again after losing my old girls, I went and bought another one! Bonnie, aged 1. They leave such a gap in your house once they are gone you have to get another one. You describe the breed better than anyone I have ever known and the way you equate the JR breed with the owners is sooooo true. I could easily get a Labrador or spaniel but a passive dog like that would not suit my family. We love the non stop random full on never ending fun that is a JR.
Great information! I recently started a channel dedicated to my Jack Russell pack because I meet people with so many question about owning them! Love the breed and all their challenges!
Great video. Proper jack Russell's! Mine is rough coat male 15 inch. He is awesome athlete and chases everything. My 4th jack. Best Dogs for fun adventures.
I laughed when she said the owners and dogs were both pretty much the same. I owned a Jack Russell, rat Terrier cross that I told people needed to be determained because all my two legged children were that way.
I’ve had two JRTs. One just recently passed at 18 yrs old and my first one passed in 2019 at 21 yrs. Both were fantastic dogs and once I get a home w a yard, I’ll look for another. The problem w longevity is the hole they leave in your heart. They both ended up having many of the problems JRTs have. Benign tumors were probably the worst to watch. But I cared for them as best I could. I highly recommend them for the right family. They both were very loving dogs but picked one person (me) and weren’t as close to others in the family. My older one didn’t do very well w my small son but she fell in love w him after he grew up and wasn’t messing with her so much. I miss them both so much.
Everything velvet hammer said! And more. I had my wonderful companion Parsons Russell named Rocky. He was the love of my life and he passed away at 15+ yrs and it was so very hard on me and I am still grieving his being gone. I miss him more than is possible to even explain. I am handicapped person and Rocky understood everything I needed, was patient and loving and never was disobedient for any reason. Always did what was expected and it was the most difficult thing to be separated from him. I will never replace Rocky but I am always looking for a Rocky somewhere in this country of the USA that I could have for my own again. They are a very desired breed and very hard to get.
Man these are some of the only small dogs I like. Had a Jack Russell mix as a kid, she was a tank. Extremely athletic and had a lot of moxie. Not scared of anything or anybody. She lived to 16. Would recommend this breed for anyone.
I have a rescued Jack Russell/ Yorkie mix. She has the coloring of a Yorkie but the rest is pure Jack Russell. She is like a tank: she runs through anything and prances around like she owns the world. I named her Tank and she lives up to the JR reputation. Full of spit and vinegar. I just adore her.
Had one for 17 years. Amazing, challenging dogs to own. An early warning sign....you go to a big box pet store and look at muzzles in different sizes named large, medium and small, and often a special separate category labeled "Jack Russell"....should give you pause😅
My female is my protector, if there's another dog near us then it's toast and that's from my mobility scooter to the horizon. She has pulled low flying birds out of the air amazing.
You are so right. Our Luna is 1 year. We have a big fenced yard. She loves to hunt. We have a cat. They are friends. She is never alone. Always with me, I work at home. I walk 2 hours with her and we play a lot in the garden. With her bal and agililty training. I love love my little brave Luna. She is like a pistol. You are right the owner must have the the terrier charecter.
I had to put my Boglin Terrier down 4 weeks ago I told my wife I need a break 2 weeks later I came home with my first Jack Russell I got to say the little guy has filled my broken heart. I am looking forward growing old with Scranton.
We have a Jack Russell named Maddy. She is very much like like how Lynn describes. She is fearless and loving. When Maddy met our new grandson, her maternal and protective instincts kicked in. She loved on that baby and laid next to him. When I went to pick him up, she whined a little. She then nipped at me as I did pick him up. When our granddaughter found a newborn kitten which was abandoned, Maddy's maternal instincts kicked in again and she took care of that kitten and dry nursed her as we had to bottle feed her. Maddy doesn't like cats but she is still protective of her cat and they play constantly together. By all means, have a fenced in yard. If one of the kids leave the gate open, Maddy takes off and it sometimes takes an hour to find her. Overall, my opinion is they are a very smart dog. They know when they have done something wrong but I believe she thinks it is better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission... Great watchdog and so good with the grandkids and all kids, come to think of it. She does have an Alpha personality when it comes to being with other dogs..
My JRT got a big chest he is fiery too but a sweet baby too. We give him alot of exercise so we dont have to crate him. He can stay home alone and he will nap while we are out running errands. Thankfully I have a big yard for his zoomies my mom loves when he gets them
I am blessed. I am terrified. I am blessed because for the past fourteen years my best friend has been a Jack Russell Terrier. He's made laugh when I didn't want to and go for walks when depression was holding me in bed. As far as having the drapes pulled, that didn't work for him and so sunshine was brought back into rooms that he discovered. When that ball came at my ankles, he would dance and bark until I picked it up to throw it which meant we had to go to the back yard. By now you know who God sent to help me out of my depression and you have to know why I am terrified. He's not as spunky and he sleeps a lot but I need to get over this feeling and enjoy our time together.
My JRT mix is training to be my service dog. He notices all bugs and critters and as someone with an animal phobia he is awesome. He is soooo fast and I’m getting him into agility
I have a JRT/lab mix. He has an unreal amount of energy, and is too smart for his own good haha. Hes an awesome dog, but definitley needs a lot of discipline and a firm voice.
Ya! I lost my jack A couple years ago. (Bret Maverick)! He was the smartest dog I had ever known. He saved my son's life twice from seizure's. had killed better then A 100 rates, loved to chace Squwirls. He was with me 24 hours A day until he cleaned up some vomit after my son got sick he was dying from cancer and was taking a lot medication! I took him strait to the vet but they wouldn't take him in because of covid 19. He dyed at 5 the next morning! Now I'm missing them both! God bless.
Jack Russell's are one of the BEST breeds around! Not always good with kids so a word of caution there, but they are true heros and they make the best friend! R.I.P. Toby, we will NEVER Forget you and ALWAYS miss YOU!
My JRT is just an 8 week old pup and shes crazy! I love her but shes gonna run me dry! However, whatever home she had previously treated her so poorly. Shes afraid of everything, poor rascal. Shes getting more brave but shes afraid of the kitchen, her own food dish, and even the wind! When we got her, she was covered in fleas and she moved so little that we thought she had a neurological issue. Shes only just now started really running today. It was fun to see her fly!
My precious jack Russell passed away 2 months ago. He succumbed to a soft tissue sarcoma of the neck. He was 14. I'd like to say he was the best dog I ever had. He was very loving, loyal, energetic, extremely intelligent and my whole world. I miss him so, so much. Words couldn't even describe the loneliness I feel without my faithful and loyal companion. He was so special I don't think I could love another dog as much as I love him. Hopefully we'll be together again someday.
@Professor Gammon I know people say that 14 yrs is a long time for a dog to live but as I look back at those wonderful years we had it seems like it was only seconds before he was gone..
JRTs for 25 years! I've always thought I needed an easier breed! There's no other for me! I've bred, Shown at JRTCA trials , agility....couch potatoes, you name it, I love them all. Going into retirement I think I'm on my last 2......but who knows!
I have one. I love her so much. Great hunter. Indestructible. Possum, squirrel, racoon, frogs, snakes, insects. She will kill them all. Such a great protector. She is a terminator! Love my adopted Mia ❤
On my second he is 5 months old took me a year and a half to get another Buddy was 13. They are just remarkable dogs. Beyond smart and some what pushy. Its is important to show them you are the boss. They are not for everyone if you have time or a job that allows they go to work with you they may be a great choice. I take mine everywhere and love him as most would love a child. My 30 year old son says I love my dog more than he. I said well he is better to me than you or your mom.
Wonderful! Keep up the great videos! I like all the breed videos you do. I would be interested in seeing more on working dogs doing their jobs or in training, like scent work, search and rescue, assistance dogs, therapy dogs, even more of the jack russels digging and catching animals. You have a lot on protection work and a bit on herding but not much on the rest.
Jacks are relentless hunters of snakes and rats, etc… they LOVE to play ball… my Jack is my bestie. She is 12 years old and plays ball every day. She loves playing outside with the kids.
My best friend passed a while ago so I got another Jack but completely different from my parsons so to me he’s the son of my wonderful Sid , he’s called Buddy and I love him
Grew up with a Jack and rat terrier. Moms always said wishbone (the jack) was a big dog trapped in a small dogs body lol. Cherokee was the rat terrier.
If I may throw out a request: I'd love to see a documentary on one of the smaller spitz breeds such as American Eskimo, Japanese Spitz, German Spitz, Icelandic Sheepdog, etc! The American Eskimo especially, since they seem to have a reputation for aggression sometimes, yet others say they're the best dogs ever...
These are amazing creatures. They almost require their own species rather than a breed of the common dog! Everything good about the dog archetype is hardwired into these guys from birth and if you give them attention, stimulation, fun, and training you will have a perfect pet (IMO). They're engaging, sociable, love people, they're excited to get out of bed (or over anything) and have a deep love for life. JR's are committed ballers and it seems that Fetch is their religion..They will NEVER quit until the task they want to accomplish is complete because everything is important to them. They all think they're Big-Shots and somehow, despite their compact size, they're convincing ("in the blue corner weighing in at a whopping 14 pounds...JR!!".) My JR (named "Jack," lacking creativity but he doesn't mind) will follow me anywhere and every day is better for having him. P.S. They're "fun-sized" too so you can sneak them in places easily.

Any tips on training them to coral sheep will be appreciated. Thanks

I have a 9mth old jack Russell staffishire bull terrier mix and he's such a smart dog. He has the body of the staffy and the personality of a jack. I can't wait to watch him grow to be an amazing dog.
ONE OF THE BEST BREEDS EVER!
We hv just got a 2 month old puppy home and just fits the description in the video... superb Xmas addition to our family
These Dogs are amazing, mime helped me through sickness. I can't let her down..I Will take of her until she dies...still many years to come, she's 8 years old.
My first 2 JR ladies lived to 17 and 18. (Mollie and Forri)
After deciding to never get another dog again after losing my old girls, I went and bought another one!
We got 21 years of love and loyalty from our beloved JRT. Miss you, Hudson!
JRT is a wonderful breed, also my good hiking buddy.
My favorite small dog.😊
Great video. Proper jack Russell's!
Mine is rough coat male 15 inch.
He is awesome athlete and chases everything. My 4th jack. Best Dogs for fun adventures.
I laughed when she said the owners and dogs were both pretty much the same. I owned a Jack Russell, rat Terrier cross that I told people needed to be determained because all my two legged children were that way.
Very nicely done.
Small with the heart ❤of a lion! And full of caricature. Great wee dogs 👍
Thank you for this ❤️
Best dogs ever! Thanks for the great video!
brandyb51 Your Brandy is a cutie 👍🏼❤️🇺🇸
One of the best breeds for sure
Great video thanks for the info
Only small dog i like lol
Me, too. Ever since "Harry & The Hendersons".
Jack russels, beagles and basset hounds
Those are the only 3 on my list
Small dogs with the hearts of giants ! Brave, energetic, strong, funny; they are the best of dogs
@@stillnottellingyoumyname8193 and of those, the jrt won't have the back issues the others do
I’ve had two JRTs.
Thanks for the video on JRT.
Would recommend this breed for anyone.
had a purebred rough coat jack russell for 15 years. best dog i'll have ever had.
Mines a jack russel terrier and beagle mix. Cute but deadly.
Deadly meaning not good with kids?
@@CountryWilly meaning it kill skunks, chipmunks, etc
Had one for 17 years. Amazing, challenging dogs to own. An early warning sign....you go to a big box pet store and look at muzzles in different sizes named large, medium and small, and often a special separate category labeled "Jack Russell"....should give you pause😅
Thank you so much!
ALL DOGS ARE SO AWESOME BETTER THAN MOST HUMANS
I remember when I wanted my own Wishbone.🥰 I still ponder them sometimes, they’re so cute! 🤭
I've a patterjack, great little dog, intelligent plenty of spirit and a good companion
My beloved Fox Field was truly one of a kind. Amazing breed.
I have a rescue Jack and Lab. Love my rescue fur babies. I'm getting older so when the time to adopt again comes, I'll be looking for a senior rescue
I like her style how a lot of these working breeds are being transformed for show and house pets
Love my jack russel. Great dog.
I have one. I love her so much. Great hunter. Indestructible. Possum, squirrel, racoon, frogs, snakes, insects. She will kill them all. Such a great protector. She is a terminator! Love my adopted Mia ❤
Mankind's Greatest Inventions : Terrier !
My best friend passed a while ago so I got another Jack but completely different from my parsons so to me he’s the son of my wonderful Sid , he’s called Buddy and I love him
Great Video. Pound for pound, I personally have yet to see a tougher or better hunting dog. Amazing breed!
We have been lucky enough to have been owned by 3 Jacks over a period of 27 years.................There is no better dog =on this earth😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Grew up with a Jack and rat terrier. Moms always said wishbone (the jack) was a big dog trapped in a small dogs body lol. Cherokee was the rat terrier.
Jacks rule
If I may throw out a request: I'd love to see a documentary on one of the smaller spitz breeds such as American Eskimo, Japanese Spitz, German Spitz, Icelandic Sheepdog, etc! The American Eskimo especially, since they seem to have a reputation for aggression sometimes, yet others say they're the best dogs ever...
I might have to get one when we get some land.
About fences - I taught my 2 Jack Russells to respect my barb wire fences and stay within its boundaries. And they do because they are in Jack Russell heaven - all nine acres big.😊 I am planning to raise sheep and plan to use the male for rounding up the sheep next year. Any tips on training them to coral sheep will be appreciated. Thanks
I’m from uk and the first 2 minutes that came out that women’s mouth was bullshit! Reverend Russell was vicar of St James Church that first bread the JACK RUSSEL. The Parsons was bread at a later date!!!
My Jack Russell is only half (her father is a pitbull), but man she is EXACTLY like this 😅
Bet that looks wierd
Niche to see the long legged US type is no longer allowed to be referred to as a JRT . JRTs aren’t long legged , and I’m glad they - and the bow legged short version - are no longer officially called Jack Russel
My Jack Russell loves all dogs and people. Mine is fine on his own when I go to work as I have a dog flap into the garden. Nothing gets chewed. He loved to steal contractors tools when they do stuff in my house 😂
Can you do a video about Nova Scotia duck tolling retrievers please ?
Neighbour has one I've only ever seen that one very smart dog and stunning
