  • These are my initial thoughts on the Shinko 241.
    I took the TW200 out for a quick 50 miles across the Santa Ana Mountains.
    I am blown away by the immediate difference this tire makes. My little dual-sport has never felt so stable!
    Cheers!

    I'm always amazed at how different tires can ride and handle so differently. The only problem is it takes a while to try enough tires to zero in on the one that works best for you.

    • @TillDeathDualUsSport
      @TillDeathDualUsSport  5 лет назад +2

      I think I found a keeper with this tire 😃 There is really no other option but to go with a stock replacement tire for the rear, so that really narrows things down…although some people do fit an ATV tire as mentioned in the vid. I might look into it but I’m not a fan of how close the clearance between the swing arm and tire gets.🤷🏻‍♂️ We’ll see!

    Welcome to the club! Some of us have been singing the praises of the 241 for over five years. Doing the front suspension with proper springs and emulators is THE best mod you can do for the bike IMHO. I recommend 5wt. fork fluid and just dropping in the emulators unadjusted. 130mm from the top with springs out and forks fully collapsed. Don't forget to pump out the air bubbles. A 241, suspension work, wider foot pegs and a Seat Concepts make it a far different and better steed than stock. Good luck, and enjoy!

      I’m glad I made the switch! Todd Davis (the suspension master) over at TCS Powersports is starting my suspension upgrade on Tuesday! I’m soooo stoked! I ordered the kit from ProCycle along with a new rear spring (the white one). I can’t wait to give these emulators a day in the desert! The current suspension is abysmal, haha. I have wide pegs, all I need is some Seat Concepts action! Thanks for watching!

    I also ride the T-Dub with a Shinko 241. Thanks for your impression on the Shinko 244, because I was wondering about that tire. We have lumpy pitted forest trails and gravel forest roads here in MN, and the 241 does a good job gripping. I guess I'll stick with that tire. Cornering is much improved vs the stock tire or the 244. Tire choice is such a personalized thing that its hard to say if you would like a knobby vs a trial style. If you’re not riding on the street then I would consider a 100% off road tire. It will be much more grippy/gummy vs a 50/50 dual sport tire.

    • @TillDeathDualUsSport

      I’m not sure about the weight. The 241 is technically meant as a rear tire, so it certainly has some extra heft to it.

    Good info in your vid. I ride many of the same places as Tdubs Kid but also out in the desert areas of Colorado. The desert trails here are mix of just about everything but with a lot of rock steps, ledges and baby heads. In your opinion would this tire do well in those situations? Myself and my girlfriend ride 2019 TW's. Thanks in advance.

    • @TillDeathDualUsSport
      @TillDeathDualUsSport  4 года назад

      ThePhotofred I don’t think you can go wrong with this tire. It should perform very well in all types of terrain. The steps and ledges will boil down to rider ability. The 241 will definitely add some extra traction though! Let me know if you end up mounting one!

After about 30 miles in every type of terrain except mud I can say that the Tw's are totally different bikes to ride now. Now they float over things like they should. I have many years experience riding off road, but my lady friend just started this last June at the age of 54. She digs her bike with the Shinko front, and said it added to her confidence in the ledges and steps. Thanks for your input on the tire.

      I really appreciate the response. These take 50% of the range off electric bikes, because they're a lot heavier than the tissue paper thin tires that come on electric bicycles, so I'm thinking about if I want to make that sacrifice, if they give some supreme grip in bad weather. Something along the lines of studs in each of these nubs during the winter, or just to ride on fields and roads in the rain. It's a tough one.
