    It's always good to see TW200 videos, so keep up the good work. I have a mile or two on the TW myself. Since you're making this before you've mounted your 241, it's like saying the stock footpegs get the job done. Yeah, they do, but aren't upgraded ones better? The TW31 gets the job done, and I agree with Jim's comments, but an upgrade is just that, an upgrade. It can get so much better. The pegs can be upgraded, the seat can be upgraded, the suspension can be upgraded, the grips can be upgraded, the shift lever can be upgraded, etc. All are called "upgrades" for a reason...they make your riding experience better and more enjoyable than with what the manufacturer put on stock. I can't wait for the future vid where you explain how the 241 is most definitely an upgrade and a near perfect match for the TW200 in most riding conditions.

      Hey, I've seen some of your videos! You've got some great stuff! You're right, they are all called upgrades for a reason and I'm not trying to take that away at all. But, with all the bad about the TW31 I was just trying to let people know that it isn't something that should keep them from getting the bike and that with proper tire care it can be something that they can still get out and enjoy. It's not the best tire for everything, that's true, but it still allows you to get out and have a good time. Thanks for commenting!! I really appreciate it!

    I've had my TW200 for 8 months now. I've had 20 bikes before, but here's my take. I didn't know about the reputation of the front tire. I took it out with another TW rider and we hit the dirt. Let me say, I'm 230 lbs and on the aggressive scale of 1-10, I ride at about 8.5 max since I'm in my 50's now. I actually HATED the Trailwing in the dirt. I lowered the pressure to 12 front and 12 rear and things improved considerably but my front tended to wash out a lot, especially on hard dirt with light gravel/sand on it. My buddy had a Shinko and told me about the reputation and I told him I see why. I swapped to a Shinko SR241 and things got much better. HUGE difference in the dirt. I still run about 12 front and maybe more like 13 in the back now. I've also changed the rear springs and the fork springs to help things out, but if you ride primarily dirt, the original tire really is crap. If you are just putting around and just on flat trails or streets, the OEM tire is ok. Actually, the Trailwing is better on the street than the Shinko, but I didn't buy this bike for the street. Now that I have some actual miles on my TW, I think it's dialed in just right.
    Just to be clear, the Trailwing is probably a better street tire and if you're a not too aggressive rider and don't ride loose gravel much, it's probably fine. But if you push hard in the dirt, I think you should get something safer, like the Shinko.

      Jim, thanks for the comment and for the detail you brought to the table! I have a new 241 in the garage but wanted to point out that this tire will get the job done if you want to just get out and ride. Like I mentioned in the video, there are some places that I am not very confident with the tire so I have bought the other to enhance the little more aggressive riding off road. Thanks again! Matt

      I have the 244 Shinko tire on my bike and happened to love it quite a bit it does sound quite well in the rough terrain where I ride a lot and on the highway it does quite well as well. I have not tried the 241 yet but I might try that as my next tire to compare the two. But for now I can say I really like how the 244 Shinko Tire is off-road it's a little heavier than that 241 and I'm only 125 lb and it does quite well for me on single track and the off-road that I do that is quite quite off-road. I only do some back dirt roads, most of my riding is off in the trails

    I been riding dirt motorcycles for over 30 years. I agree about running proper tire pressure for each type of riding conditions. Definitely run specified tire pressures on the street. But with off road conditions are very different, as there are so many types. On average, I Run 12 to 14 psi on rear & 14 to16 up front. Now they have air compressors that small, battery operated packs made by DeWalt & Milwaukee are the best. As ones that run off your bike battery may drain battery unless you keep bike running. Always Remember You Can Jump Start Bike KEY & KILL SWITCH ON, By Rolling Down Hill, Pull Clutch, SECOND Gear, Pop Clutch, As You Pop Down On Seat. With Small Air Compressor you can easily carry with you so you can change tire pressure on different types of terrain. I also suggest carrying: Large Can Of Fix-A-Flat. Flat On The Trail Is A Pain To Repair. This Will Hopefully Get You Back To Trailhead. If you are Hard Core Endurance Rider, Traveling, Carry: Spare Front Tube Can Work On Front Of Rear, Air Pump/Compressor/CO2 Cartridge Kits, Tire Irons, Tools Needed, Etc. Godspeed Your Journeys, Mr.T.

    Hi Matt, I bought a new 2020 in June. I too like the tire on the street ok, but feel like it lacks a lot off road. I'm 60, and don't ride really aggressively. Where I live, (The panhandle of Texas) most of the dirt roads are caliche, and they vary from hard packed to loose sand on top and sometimes very slick even when dry. When they are wet, they are like ice.
    I haven't dumped it, but have come close several times wet and dry. I have experimented with different pressures, and have found that around 18psi works well for me off road. I weigh 225 Pounds. When I wear the original set out, I will probably replace the rear with a stock replacement, as I am happy with it, and more than likely try a different front.
    Thanks for your time doing your videos, and keep up the great work!

    Hey Matt love your videos and I’ve been a subscriber for a while now. I carry a small battery powered air compressor with me and find lowering tire pressure while in the dirt at low speeds really improves the feel of the death wing. @@MOBStreet83 I think you need springs and I would do the cartridge emulators. I don’t know your experience with dirt bikes, but a cartridge fork is unbelievably better than damping rods.
      I’ve watched a few videos on these bikes and read quite a bit about them. Super soft forks are a big complaint. Watching your videos, it’s easy to see that your forks are not keeping up with the terrain. Reminds me of the days when I started riding with a DT250. Absolutely horrible suspension. The last bike I had before the family was a CR500.
      What a Cadillac in the suspension department.
      We just picked up a 2021 for my daughter who is going to learn to ride on it. I took it for a ride and could not believe how crappy that front fork is. Absolutely horrible and no excuse from Yamaha on why they haven’t upgraded it. Don’t get me started on the rear brake. After I properly adjusted it, it was still disappointing. My ‘74 DT’s rear drum is better.
      Going to order the parts today myself.

    The tire suddenly washing out at random I believe is the true reason the tire was coined that. The tire seems to have plenty of grip when all the sudden you fall to the ground.

      That's what I am trying to figure out and that is why I caution to maintain a proper tire pressure. I know there are a lot of folks out there who have had the tire do that to them and I am not trying to take away from that at all. I just think that the proper pressure and tire care can help a lot. There are guys out there that have 10k miles on them and haven't had any issues.

    I have the same tire but different size that came stock on my Suzuki DRZ 400. It actually works superb on the street. But the dirt performance is very sub par. You just have to watch how you ride in the dirt. I have almost 3000 miles on my tires and for the most part am happy with them, but I do mostly dirt road and pavement riding. Living in the Midwest, you don't have alot of off road options.......What area do you ride? It looks kinda like the high desert area.

    For off road, the TW31 has worked perfect for me, but like you, I'm not going for any speed records. Where I do have some problems with it is on the pavement at higher speed. There are a couple of curves I have to slow down just a little more than what should be needed to reduce the lean angle or else I feel the front tire walking out from under the bike... not what you want on curves lined with barbed wire fences and oak trees. It seems to depend on the road surface texture. A few weeks ago we lost another motorcyclist on one of those curves due to "failure to negotiate the curve".
    Also, sometimes between 55 and 60, the front end starts going unstable and begins going into a tank slapper, so I'm forced to roll off the throttle and settle it down. I have a TW203 to try later.

    • @MOBStreet83
      @MOBStreet83  3 года назад +1

      Those are some good points you bring up. I haven't had the bike in a sharp turn going those speeds so I haven't experienced that just yet. What tire pressure are you running when you're on the road? I have the Shinko 241 to try but let me know how that 203 works out!

    • @Motor_Cackle
      @Motor_Cackle 3 года назад

      @@MOBStreet83 I played with many different pressure combinations, and found 20 PSI front, and 22 PSI rear gave the best handling on pavement. For off road, the pressure didn't seem to make much difference, other than making coarse gravel a little less rough at the lower pressures. I've gone through long stretches of Florida sugar sand on the TW31, and never had any problem... I'm afraid that's where the 203 will be a problem, but it just means I have to take some alternate routes to certain places. I'll see if I can upload a short video clip.

    The DeathWing is solidly ADEQUATE, but inferior to other tire options when doing hard turns on wet pavement due to less surface area of the knobs in contact with the ground. If you take a hard turn on slick, wet pavement, there's a fair chance you will drop the bike, especially if you have less experience riding a T-Dub and if the tire pressure is too high. In most situations, you're still better off with a Shinko 241 on the front end than a DeathWing.

    • @MOBStreet83
      @MOBStreet83  3 года назад

      I think that is true for all open tread tires. All tires respond differently in wet conditions, some are made for it others aren't but I understand the open tread design. I am a fan of the 241 as well! Thanks for the insight!

    I Love the content! and the subject I have some insight I would like to share. I have been riding bikes primarily off-road, but on-road as well for about 12 years and within the last year put 4,000 miles on the Trail wing and my opinion is that the Trail wing is not an ideal tire, but is capable of being a dual-sport tire. the issues people have are likely related to running too high of pressure and pushing the tire to its limits the fact is it's a good tire for soft farmland and aired down on moderate trails but it isn't a motocross tire and it's not exactly soft compound either so not great on-road or off-road. when you start pushing its limits on one or the other, you are taking a risk, this is a risk that dual-sport tires always will pose to some degree because just for instance say you have a 50/50 tire you're making a compromise in both on and off-road riding performance so you can ride both of them with lesser than ideal performance but getting the job done. I have pushed it in the windies down the local mountain on dry tarmac and kept up with other street bikes, however, it is not ideal and you can feel that. I have gone on some very extreme terrain up hills and down hills, over big rocks, gravel, sand and in the snow. and found it is much better with side-to-side traction than forward and backward traction because the tread pattern is formed almost like an older dune buggy front tire in the sense the tread nobs are long and can function almost like a rudder for lateral traction on soft terrain or sand. that's why my opinion is it's probably best in soft terrain and aired down so that the tire can form around the surface on trails I run about 15 psi and it does well for me keep in mind I'm a featherweight at 135-140lbs and The 18-22psi is probably better for heavier riders though it's good to have some tire flex on trails which has to be matched for your body weight and riding style terrain etc. I know a lot of people like to test the limits and show what the TW200 can do and for those people the stock front tire is not ideal in my opinion. and actually, most tires with similar tread patterns have not been ideal in my opinion.
    To sum up this long comment I Think anyone buying the TW200 shouldn't be afraid to use the stock front trail wing and decide within its span if it works for them. Though if you are planned on doing aggressive riding you need a tire geared more towards that riding style so that you aren't risking it for the biscuit. Hope this helps someone and happy riding!

    I wonder if ill be able to give away my 3000 mile tw31 when i take it off, they are that hated. It inspires no confidence on road or off for me. I cannot wait to replace it. I also want a +1"-2" swingarm for hillclimbing, washboard roads etc.

      I bet you'll be able to give it away to someone. For those who don't like it there are just as many that do! It is a good little all around tire but it isn't the best tire. If you find a new swingarm let us know! That would be cool to see!

      @@MOBStreet83 i plan to just fab a new swingarm out of 2 stock ones cut and welded together, the longer ones from japan are way too long for what i want.

    I just don't understand why they such a crappy front tire on a stock TW???

      I rode 2500 miles with mine. I went all over the place and only had a few times I wasn't totally confident. Air pressure is a must on that tire for sure.

    I admit it. It was me. I have been watching but I have not subscribed. I am a bad man. I have been interested in the TW200 and thinking about buying one. Trying to get a feel for the pros and cons before I take the plunge. I will be on the street more than off road. Some say a 47 rear sprocket others say 44 for my needs. Okay I will shut up and subscribe.

      Hey, thanks for subbing! I just found it entertaining that I had more non-subs watching than subs. How fast are you planning on going on the street? I think a 47 would be good enough for most everything but the freeway. I was able to hit 66mph with a 52 tooth on my bike.

    I've owned two TW's, rode on and offroad with both and I don't know what the hell this front tire hubub is all about. How long have they been using these trail wings? Pretty sure forever... and this was never an issue till recently? 🤔 I've pushed one of these bikes at 60mph so hard through an extended curve WITH a passenger (I was a 17 yo incredibly stupid stoner) that I could hear and feel the tires smearing sideways but guess what... no wash out! I'd be willing to bet 90% of this hubub is ignorant ass newbies who straight grabbed their front brake or overused it against the rear brake all together. People can't take responsibility for their own stupidity and/or ignorance these days! You don't make abrupt decisions or movements when riding and thats what it takes to wash this tire out. I never heard ANY of this nonsense on the big forum the entire time I owned my '07 but I do know that people have only gotten dumber this day and age.

      I think a lot of it is user related. I agree that knowing how to apply your front brake makes a big difference and abrupt grabbing of the brake in a turn is a big culprit. I ran that stock tire for almost 2500 miles in varying terrain and didn't have an issue with washout. I also think that front and rear tire pressure play a huge part. This is one of the most overlooked maintenance issues on motorcycles. They have specific pressures that need to be followed. Thanks for the comment!

    This is about views vs subscribers. Are you able to tell how long the average viewer watched the video? Kind of interested in this model but the echo in your video caused by the open garage caused me to stop after a few minutes and move on.

    • @MOBStreet83
      @MOBStreet83  3 года назад

      Funny, I opened the garage because everyone was telling me that would stop the echo. It didn't. Yeah, the RUclips analytics lets me know at what point of the movie people drop off. I bought a microphone and it worked great for a bit, then it died and my computer died so this video was all done with my cell phone.
