derpestarzt you don't need to be such a douchebag about it, you're one of the reasons people don't go to seek help for just as serious mental health issues.
If my crudeness encourages even one idiot to keep their attention seeking invented disorders to themselves then that'd be a job well done. In fact I'm sure that idiot will go on to carry a much more productive and happy life than they would have if they had gone down the rabbit hole of attention seeking and self-pitying behavior.
Neurosurgeon here from the US. We classify this as Body Integrity Disorder. It's due to a disconnect in the parietal sensory S1 receptor in which normally gives a person body awareness. I.e. you can close your eyes and identify your body as your own and spatially account for all your limbs and fingers. Simply put, a person with Body Integrity disorder has a lesion in this pathway so that they do not recognize a portion of their bodies as their own. It's most common in the left arm. It's almost as if living with constant anxiety that a foreign being is growing on your body. As if a stranger is constantly touching you. This is why it was previously treated as anxiety/OCD. Amputation "completes" their body maps and they can now account for their entire bodies. Further studies are being done to understand this disease
My understanding is that while a lesion CAN cause this, there isn't anything to substantiate that MOST of these cases are from "a lesion" (rather than some other anomaly) in the region-- can you point me toward a publicly available source? This isn't my field. That said, I don't want to derail from the general sentiment-- this is clearly a neurological disorder and there is a lot of documentation that it is organic in nature.
@@zz-jones What's your problem? Someone is making a niche claim, I want to see a source. I did search PubMed before asking this. Is there a reason you don't want information shared among interested parties? Am I somehow bothering you by learning? What a grouch!
He features Michael Emerson from person Of Interest. When I saw him I was thinking to myself he reminds me of someone and had to think hard of who lol.
Jennifer Smith plus sometimes you can get blood clots or at least skin sores from doing that a lot for a long period of time... unless that’s part of what he’s going for? Screwing up the leg THAT way? Either way it definitely can’t be comfortable.
The bending his leg in his pant leg thing is killing my claustrophobia. I haaaate being restricted. I panic if I get my arm stuck in a shirt sleeve. Lol
I literally watched the first half of this video and thought his leg was already amputated and thought he was talking about removing the other leg 🤦🏾♀️. I also was trying to watch this and bobs burgers at the same time
Hey, just because you don't understand a mental illness doesn't mean it's not real. Obviously this seems very fair fetched but someone is hurting and adding negativity to a bad situation won't make it better.
Bro you should've seen how much hate the blind woman is receiving. If you don't know, there's also a case of a woman with BIID and she made herself blind. Tbh I don't understand how they can hate her like that.
Flash.Tunez Don't be sorry, I've lived like this for my whole life, so I never really knew how different it would feel if I were to have my real leg. But, I always knew that my life would in fact be different if I was like everyone else.
Flash.Tunez He has a psychological condition, that doesn't make him ungrateful. He legitimately feels like it shouldn't be there. It's unfortunate that people loose limbs, but that doesn't make people like this man ungrateful for what they have when they don't feel like it should be a part of them.
Can I ask where your amputation is at? Mine is below the knee, and wearing my prosthetic feels just the same as having my actual leg. Like if I never looked down, I would probably just forget I was an amputee. I'm curious to know how different it is for people who lack their knee joint
I've heard that others who have this condition have found help by looking at themselves in a large mirror, and seeing their leg from another perspective.
This man has a serious mental illness. A little empathy and understanding can go a long way. Seeing the way some commenters are making fun of him, and deriding him, it is no wonder that we have almost no dialogue when it comes to mental health.
MrsPoodle78 yes I totally agree! When the lady said he had no psychiatric issues I nearly fell off my chair 😣the poor man is suffering from intense mental health issues.....hopefully he receives the assistance and support he needs to recover!
Ebony Doley he's already missing most of his leg and probably claiming disability so it's a bit too late for him to seek the psychiatric help he should have
hey, nobody knows so its definitely a possibilty! I'm from Thailand, and we 1000% belive in past lives, and we believe it often manifests as a birthmark, as a form of a past life trauma, but from everything I've read about people's experiences, it seems that emotional trauma is also sometimes carried over. Either way, what IS known is that people with this disorder have a clear diagnosis in their brain scans. People with BID are literally missing a part of their brain that connects them to that limb. it feels like an extra limb to them, they dont identify with it, it's not just in their heads, it's a very real experience for them.
As my psychology professor describes it, it literally feels like you have a just some random object sticking in your body, like imagine if you had a pole sticking out of your stomach you would want it out, and that’s how this guy feels
I think he needs a good slap to be honest, there's people out there born with no legs and they get on with it, and if it was that bad why does he keep using it. Why not just accept he's got this thing that helps him walk and stay fit. If he gets a prosthetic that won't feel like his leg either, so just classify your leg or legs as prosthetic ones, and problem solved.
@@xandradoll I don't understand exactly what it is that he is feeling to be honest. They aren't alien legs, they are regular human legs, and why wouldn't they feel like his if he gets all the sensory information from them just like with every other part of his body. Even if I understood it, it still makes little sense as legs are very useful tools that help us function better than without them.
I actually appreciate that he didn't actually choose to amputate his leg instead of that girl who blind herself because of the said mental disorder. I wish people are more understanding that he didn't choose to hate his leg. The ignorance in the comments makes me sad
Dank Memer He did pay someone to do it, but it turned out to be a scam, as well as wanting to jump in front of a train. But he seems to manage quite well.
Dank Memer i think that this kind disorder can increase and these people to decide to cut after another part of their body or comit suicide or who knows .i dont trust them it cant be encouraged sorry
Ikr. I cant stand anymore the commentd saying he should just deal with it and accept his leg. Just like saying to a person sufferin with depression "try to feel happy and not sad anymore"
@@NOONE-cd4gu So what's your solution? Cut it off? In before we even fully understand whether or not he's going to get another "itch" to cut the other one off? What about the fact that removing a leg is going to place him at higher risk in the event of danger, such as being caught in a house fire, car wreck, etc? Or the fact that it'll be harder for him to simply be *mobile* ? People disagreeing that the best option is to go along with what the disorder is telling people they want never seem to make the argument that we should just line up suicidal people and watch them jump off buildings one by one. Weird, right? Big difference between treatment that helps someone manage a disorder and giving a mentally ill person whatever the hell they want, even if it's literally self destructive.
As someone who didn't choose their disability, videos like this are a bit difficult to watch. At this point in my life I've fully accepted my situation, I don't view my disability as a negative thing and wouldn't change it, but I can't say I would have chosen this life for myself.
And as someone who's lived with depression and PTSD, I understand that. Understanding mental illness doesn't make this easier for me to watch. I'm not saying he's a bad person, that he's wrong or it's his fault, it's just difficult for me regardless.
I doubt it’s easy to live with such a mental disorder though either both is difficult and we can empathise with both. I highly doubt any of these people are messing around or making fun of it when they go through with surgeries and try and commit suicide etx it’s clearly very real to them. I read a surgeon reply here he says there is a legion on the brain that stops them being able to identify with the body part as they should.
he's fully aware it's a mental condition, it's a mental condition it's not like it's his fault like i have ocd im very very aware my thoughts and obsessions are irrational but that's why i have a mental condition like jeez
I have a disability, and can't walk on my right leg. I try to be open minded and compassionate, and I understand that he and people with his disorder really are suffering. Still, it's so difficult to not feel a bit upset, especially watching him walk. Do you know what I would give to be able to do that? I'm not saying my life is miserable, I'm usually happy with who I am, and I know there's no point in being bitter all the time about what I can't do. Still, this world was built for people with his abilities, not mine. I've missed out on so many things because of my issues. I want to say that I support him 100% in whatever he needs to do to be happy, but it's so hard to believe his amputation would be the right thing. I guess that's more my problem than his. In any case, he and people like him deserve to be happy. I guess I just hope that ultimately comes from neurological treatment, and not from becoming willingly disabled.
Kerstie Sweeney your lacking a little in intelligence. She was showing empathy toward the man and his disability as well as showing her thoughts on his situation and relating his situation to hers.I think you should read the whole comment next time(if you even know how to read)
I have a disability which causes me to need to use various mobility aids, primarily a wheelchair. I recently saw one of these videos in which a woman who had nothing physically wrong with her decided 'she felt most comfortable in her wheelchair' but would then get up and go skiing, hiking, etc. I get it's a mental disorder, and i didn't want to be, but was so incredibly offended. I totally understand where you're coming from. To see her 'act disabled' and then reveal she was completely fine and go skiing was asinine.
Kerstie Sweeney I don’t think you were requested or required to state the obvious. She clearly realizes that. She was just stating her thoughts and relating their situations. You don’t have to get all salty about how it has nothing to do with her. You could also argue that his condition has nothing to do with anything of us with that logic, and yet, here we all are.
Okay, from what I can see, this guy is legit. He is real. He genuinely understand that his brain is rejecting his leg. He described it as growing an extra limb that should not be there. That's actually legit. This dude still shouldn't... you shouldn't take the leg off, it's not okay, but this man is far more understandable.
I know this is off topic but I misread the title as “Living with BIRD: I Want To Cut Off My Leg”... I thought I, too, live with a bird, but it doesn’t make me want to cut off my leg.... Oh.”
Ok so what I've gathered from the comments is that his condition is valid and can be compared to disorders such as OCD. His brain perceives his leg as an extra, unwanted limb that shouldn't be there. My first impression of him was that he wanted attention. But by seeing bits and pieces of his life and hearing about how he truly feels, I know that he has struggled internally with this disorder (I mean he considered suicide and all so there's definitely a problem mentally.) However, I'm not sure if going through with the whole amputation process is the right choice. It's obviously not up to me, but what if he regrets it later? What if his brain changes its mind? Idk I'm still a little confused. If anyone has any additional thoughts feel free to add on.
There was another guy with BIID who wanted both legs amputated. Nobody would do it, so he did it himself. He survived, and he is happy and content with himself (besides one leg being slightly longer than the other due to his hack job). Think of it like a transgender individual transitioning to their preferred gender. It's something they've had from birth, and once they align their mental image of themselves with their physical image, they are finally happy with themselves.
I'm not sure this is something someone can change their mind about but other than that I agree with you. People are saying that it must be hard for someone who doesn't have a leg to watch this, and while I see where they're coming from, that isn't his fault. Idk. It's a really interesting disorder.
There's a whole other sidw of this, too, where people physically feel and can manipulate an appendage that isn't there, like a 3rd arm or leg. Brain scans show activity exactly like a real limb when they're asked to move their extra part. It's fascinating.
I expected one of the two comments to be an answer but since they weren't I looked it up. It may help correct certain vision impairments such as not being able to distinguish certain colors or something like that.
As someone who is physically disabled I know how much it sucks to not be able to walk around like he can. However, he isn't hurting anyone, he isn't getting benefits, he's trying to do something for himself even though we find it a little strange. He didn't choose this and he wants to fix it. So why not let him? I saw another girl who was disabled in these comments talking about how offensive it is but I don't see why. He's not attacking anybody, he's not getting money, and he just wants to cut off his damn leg. Yes being disabled is hard but if it's what he wants why is that so horrible.
respectable doctors won't make life changing surgeries like that (or end a life, even) without lengthy mental evaluation of the patient. and, obviously, people that want to remove limbs are not mentally healthy so they aren't considered able to make such a decision. medicine isn't here to do as people please, pointless surgeries to fulfill some irrational mental illness, that most definitely won't help his condition
We need to develop a new type of therapy. There must be a way to help these people learn to associate and connect with their leg. I bet if they did brain scans it would show interesting stuff.
BBB it would be interesting but It’ll be hard since there isn’t that many of people with BIID and to get as accurate as possible they need a huge sum of them with similar up bringing to try to cut down the error margin as much as possible.
I have heard of research where they have scanned the brain whilst the limb in question is being touched. The brain doesn't process the feeling in the same way/area of the brain. These people really do feel like the limb isn't their own and shouldn't be there. He must know the struggles he would face as an amputee but that the option of living with the limb is something far worse.
@@chiwiria4342 I agree. If we can do physical therapy and psychotherapy for pain patients to reconnect to limbs they've had to dissociate from due to excruciating pain, then the same methods could be used for this man. There's a clinic in arkansas that's doing breakthrough treatment for dissociation of limbs due to pain. It includes Neurofeedback and hypnotherapy among other therapies. I would cost as much as an amputation but it might help him.
Exactly! Instead of making fun of them or calling them crazy there should be more research done to understand what causes this and if there is a way to effectively treat the disorder.
As a junior Doctor , I may not understand him well but I understand that he is suffering from some kind of body dysmorphia . I find his friend really supportive. God bless Nick with happiness.
I can never understand this cause for me living as an amputee loosing my leg to clotting disorder I would give anything to have my leg back! I really hope he’ll receive the help he needs. Cause living with an amputated leg - it’s not a all fun or easy!
And??? Why can't he say his partner is his best friend? Maybe that's what he calls him doesn't mean he's lieing about his sexuality and relationship nor does it have anything to do with this video.
This is fascinating, because, neurologically, there should be an explanation for why he feels this way. Even if it's a manifestation of a different, more commonplace disorder or if BIID is the actual underlying condition, finding out why one feels as if a part of themselves is not... its a spectacular enigma of a puzzle.
Liradu2 Please don't be so aggressive, everybody is just trying to express what they think, I just got those vibes of him, and sorry for Christina, (Houndin)
Although this may seem weird and insane, there’s no denying this is a serious condition and these people need help. Hopefully this man can get past this, I’ll pray for him
If you don’t relate to your arms, legs, genitalia, eyeballs, etc… surgeons should not cut them off for you. The kindest thing to do is therapy to understand how to love your own healthy body in tact. Dismemberment does not fix the issue. Like If I don’t identify with my head at some point in life, please don’t encourage me to cut it off ☠️
It's not a case of simply not relating to your limbs. People with BIID feel as though their limbs are foreign or not their own/aren't meant to be attached to their bodies. It's a genuine neurological issue, they can't force themselves to feel connected with their body parts through just therapy.
I heard about this disorder so long ago, I didn’t know the name of it then, I just remember a friend telling me about it, and like.. honestly? If it helps, do it. I’d rather people with BIID lose a limb or two than lose their life to depression and dysphoria. I would love to see more research done on the matter too, it almost sounds like alien hand syndrome, or the opposite of phantom limbs.
It's easy to judge and I personally don't understand at all why one would want to do this, especially when someone with a missing leg would give anything to walk again. But honestly on the other hand it sounds like a severe condition especially if he's willing to kill himself. Hope he gets the help he needs and glad he has such a supportive friend.
This is beyond sad . I’ve heard stories about people who had the same mental disorder cutting off limbs . I saw a RUclips video of a woman who put acid in her own eyes because she wanted to be blind . I see things like this and my heart breaks
I understand that some, especially those that have lost or were born without their limbs, may find it offensive to see someone try to damage and remove their healthy limb, but even if that was your first reaction, you can still try to change your thoughts and feelings about the video. As it was mentioned, he really is suffering, and it's not like he is trying to provoke anyone. Try to put yourself in his position. The brains of people with BIID fail to recognize a part of their body as their own, in this case his leg. I don't really have a good example, but if you have a normal healthy body, imagine if you had an extra arm or leg. You would be able to move the extra body part, but your brain isn't wired to it, so it doesn't feel like it is yours.
If I could move it, I'd actually want an extra body part. Heck I'd take an extra pair of usable arms any day. The problem some people have with situations like people getting willingly amputated limbs is this: once they cut them off, they go on disability. Disability money comes from the pockets of citizens whether they like it or not. If they didn't qualify for disability money, most people wouldn't really care aside from saying it's a waste of a working limb and a disease that wasn't treated but instead allowed to progress. If a person thinks their entire body except the head should be missing, should a doctor give the greenlight for it while we still don't have the ability to go cyborg with 90% machinery? Well, as long as the doctor doesn't get accused of manslaughter and people don't pay for a head's life support...
I think it's similar to how someone with breast cancer who *had* to have their breasts removed may feel appauled by a trans person voluntarily getting top surgery and being happy about it. It's hard to understand why someone wouldn't want a functioning piece of their body, but it is not without great thought that people make these kinds of decisions.
The guy is sick and twisted and has a deep and complex form of munchausen. Wants to find validation through self imposed harm instead of just faking it anymore, wants to actually go through with it so others have to validate his insanity. People need to stop being so damn pandering and need to understand that people will come unglued on you if you say something so ludicrous and so absurd just because you cant get over a something so ridiculously obvious and people like yourself need to stop defending it and encouraging this lunacy.
Detonatress M you just don’t get it. His mind is REJECTING the limb, in a way neither you or i will ever know. If it’s so painful to him that he wants the limb amputated, then have some fuckin’ empathy and realize he knows what’s best for his own state of mind
Jason Dunne His mind literally rejects the reality of his body to the point that he wants to cut off parts of it. That is text book definition of self harm, so with a brain that is green lighting self harm, he is NOT able to know what is best for his state of mind.
honestly speaking, he should be able to do whatever that makes him happy. people kept commenting that he should be grateful that he has all his limps, but if he feels unsettled/upset, i'd rather he get an amputation as he wishes. after all, none of us have a say in any of this. it's his life, he can do whatever makes him happy, whatever makes him love himself, as long as he's not hurting anyone else.
As an amputee I think I can understand a little. I had a bad accident where my dominant hand was blown apart. After getting sewn up I was left with most of my thumb and some finger digits missing. I get phantom pain, especially if I think about it too much, I think most people have heard about this. If I close my eyes, I feel spatially aware of where the missing parts should be, I can even feel like I am moving them, I feel like I can bend the top half of my thumb that isn't there.
There’s technology being produced that connects electro mechanical prosthetics to existing neural pathways allowing for these spatial awareness sensations you describe to control prosthetic limbs
The amount of people who think transferring a limb is like currently scientifically possible is so sad. That's not going to be an option for him, sorry dummies!
It's sad that you don't believe transplant is a real thing. yes, you can transplant limbs to other people, you are welcome to look it up on RUclips, there are stories about people who have gotten transplanted legs and arms.
Due to the neurological disorder I don't think it would be possible to have phantom pain in the limb since it is not recognized by the brain's parietal sensory S1 receptor
you have to realise that it's not about his legs it's about his brain. he feels like the leg is not his, it's like an object stuck on him and he wants to cut it off.
It's hard for those with a normal brain and ability to think differently, to understand how those that suffer with this goes through. As a nurse myself I explain it in this way, if you had an arm hanging on your forehead would you not want that removed and feel it isn't supposed to be there? It's along the lines of how this that suffer this condition feels. They can't control it and often will do anything to feel "normal" . you don't always have to fully understand how they feel, just be kind, support them and don't judge unfairly
If trans people are allowed to have gender confirmation surgery (often involving amputation of the sex organs), then I don't see why people with BIID shouldn't be allowed to have surgeries that amputate their affected body parts.
this is so strange for me to watch because I think i have this disorder too... just to a much lesser degree. for many years I've had this secret and strange desire to have my left leg amputated below the knee (never had the desire for anywhere else). As a person who is already mentally disabled I completely understand all the disabled people in the comments saying how they wish they could walk, its insanely foreign to imagine someone wanting a disability of any kind. It seems crazy to me, and yet somehow I feel it. I don't imagine an actual amputation would do me or any other suffers any good, but yet I still desire it? its confusing, embarrassing, and isolating and I've never told anyone. I guess I'm lucky that its a much more fleeting desire for me than this, probably because I'm too distracted by other mental disorders than have a constant impact on my daily life.

I once had an eating disorder and fortunately no one recommended gastric bypass surgery, liposuction, or and other weight loss methods. It's really the same for this man, a psychological issue. I truly hope no doctor is recommending amputation as appropriate treatment. He certainly needs help, but he does not need his body damaged.
Ok, so if your anorexia causes cardiac arrest or other organ failure , would you want the doctor to say “no , you caused this damage yourself through your eating disorder, i am not trying to save your life” ? No, the doctor is going to try save you by hook or by crook. Now, consider the problems, this man encounters with doctors being judgemental and saying “no this is totally unethical” but it would mean saving his life to do the surgery. Think about that one before you come over being high and mighty
@@conorsmith8551 I'm not sure what point you were trying to get across, perhaps you misunderstood my comment. My point is that treatment should not involve removing body parts.
This is not a mental disorder, it is due to a disconnection in the brain. Telling him to get better through therapy is like telling someone with Alzheimer's to fix their Alzheimer's by going to therapy. Both disorders are caused by a physical difference in the brain
@@kimmyawesomeness4184 you are entitled to your opinion but I agree, a disconnection in the brain... to reality. I suffer from several mental illnesses so I’m someone who can speak on this. I’m saying what he’s struggling with has more to do with his mental health than his physical health.
@@eviefogg9728 honestly you crack me up. Saying that you are qualified to diagnose when somebody’s affliction is due to a mental disorder because you suffer from mental disorders is like saying because you breathe air you are qualified to assess the levels of air pollution in the atmosphere. It’s pretty ridiculous, especially since it seems like more people than not on the internet these days have mental illnesses. However, people who are qualified to talk on this subject aka neurologists have conducted research on topic. A study from 2011 which I would be happy to provide a link to stated that “Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID) is a condition in which individuals experience an intense desire for amputation of an healthy limb. Recently, McGeoch and colleagues provided the first direct evidence that this syndrome may be neurological rather than psychological in its origin.” The research goes on to talk about a lesion in the parietal area of the brain which is responsible for awareness of the parts of the body. Further research since this study has been done, and at this time in the US, general consensus is that the disorder is a neurological one caused by brain lesions, not a mental one.
Unrelated actually. Sense of balance, sense of touch, and ability to move are all unrelated to proprioception (the sense responsible for knowing where your body is while your eyes are closed)
If they numbed it, and he closed his eyes, then yes. We would still know where our leg was based on proprioception, but if you numbed the leg completely (no touch stimuli), and blindfolded him, he wouldn’t be able to like we could, and he’d probably stumble and fall.
You ignorant people need to understand that there are far more mental illnesses out there apart from depeession and anxiety. The Media always says that mental disorders are getting more and more but the truth is that more people are admitting to having one because we are getting more tolerant. If you don't you thru the same thing he is than you don't have any right to judge him.
I clicked on this angrily because my mom struggles and suffers with life on one leg but it really seems like a mental disorder that can't be controlled rather than a stupid man looking for attention like I thought it was. I hope he gets the treatment he needs to feel healthy and save his mobility at the same time.
If you support your friend cutting off a limb just because hey I think I want that, then you're not a good friend. A true friend would be like naw bro calm down there's no need for that.
I can relate to this dude. I've been wanting my leg amputated from below the knee for over 11 years now after I broke it on my 16th birthday. It's badly deformed, no doctor will touch it. I have a condition known as osteogenesis imperfecta which means brittle bones so doctors are wanting me to break the leg so they can fix it but you can't control where you break so it won't work. It was going to be amputated when I broke it but because I said okay - they put me in a psychiatric holding for 24 hours because I was okay with it to be gone. 😕 depressed and pain ever since.
Peyton Richardson I'm sorry Peyton, that's messed up. Sometimes I think the ones saying someone else needs mental help are the ones that need it themselves. They wanted to take your leg until you said ok... that's messed up. Hugs and prayers, girl.
It's different you have real pain and real ugly leg. 24 hours not so bad. But it makes me angry that this guys get all tolerance and respect and people with real problem don't

Please PLEASE point me to the literature.
that sounds horrifying to have to live with.... jesus
My understanding is that while a lesion CAN cause this, there isn't anything to substantiate that MOST of these cases are from "a lesion" (rather than some other anomaly) in the region-- can you point me toward a publicly available source? This isn't my field. That said, I don't want to derail from the general sentiment-- this is clearly a neurological disorder and there is a lot of documentation that it is organic in nature.

hey, nobody knows so its definitely a possibilty!
Interesting never thought of that

I think he needs a good slap to be honest, there's people out there born with no legs and they get on with it, and if it was that bad why does he keep using it.

As someone who didn't choose their disability, videos like this are a bit difficult to watch. At this point in my life I've fully accepted my situation, I don't view my disability as a negative thing and wouldn't change it, but I can't say I would have chosen this life for myself.
And he didn't choose to have a mental disorder either
And as someone who's lived with depression and PTSD, I understand that. Understanding mental illness doesn't make this easier for me to watch. I'm not saying he's a bad person, that he's wrong or it's his fault, it's just difficult for me regardless.
That's fair. I imagine it can't be easy to see someone who wants something that you didn't choose, and wouldn't have chosen for yourself
I doubt it’s easy to live with such a mental disorder though either both is difficult and we can empathise with both. I highly doubt any of these people are messing around or making fun of it when they go through with surgeries and try and commit suicide etx it’s clearly very real to them.

BIID is something you have from birth, a problem with the brain-body map. it won't change.
Lily Roth its strange
I'm not sure this is something someone can change their mind about but other than that I agree with you. People are saying that it must be hard for someone who doesn't have a leg to watch this, and while I see where they're coming from, that isn't his fault. Idk. It's a really interesting disorder.

Neurofeedback
I have heard of research where they have scanned the brain whilst the limb in question is being touched. The brain doesn't process the feeling in the same way/area of the brain. These people really do feel like the limb isn't their own and shouldn't be there. He must know the struggles he would face as an amputee but that the option of living with the limb is something far worse.
@@chiwiria4342 I agree.
If we can do physical therapy and psychotherapy for pain patients to reconnect to limbs they've had to dissociate from due to excruciating pain, then the same methods could be used for this man.

It's better for them to be treated for the depression and dysphoria versus losing a limb..
@@PeterPantheFearlessthere’s no treatment though, besides fitting rid of the limb. You want them to do something that doesn’t exist.

But honestly on the other hand it sounds like a severe condition especially if he's willing to kill himself. Hope he gets the help he needs and glad he has such a supportive friend.
Try to imagine your brain constantly screaming at you that there is something horribly wrong with your body.

I find his friend (Daniel) attractive tbh.

"I'd jump at the opportunity for an amputation". More like hop!
*- i had a terrifying, life changing accident, you?*
- i just didn't like it.
nope this is a neurological disorder caused by a disconnect in the parietal sensory S1 receptor of the brain
This is how I feel about my 3rd leg
MDinhh i want my third leg
honestly speaking, he should be able to do whatever that makes him happy. people kept commenting that he should be grateful that he has all his limps, but if he feels unsettled/upset, i'd rather he get an amputation as he wishes. after all, none of us have a say in any of this. it's his life, he can do whatever makes him happy, whatever makes him love himself, as long as he's not hurting anyone else.
Imagine if he felt like his head was a foreign body part
Any doctor who would agree to do that should have their license revoked !
What if after removal of the limb, he begins to experience phantom pain ? 🤔😳🤫
Due to the neurological disorder I don't think it would be possible to have phantom pain in the limb since it is not recognized by the brain's parietal sensory S1 receptor
I don’t think so, cause your brain doesn’t understand why it’s feeling things from there anyway, so it would stop instantly once the limb was off.
Dude. I'll take his perfectly working legs and he can have mine that haven't worked in several years. Win win
you have to realise that it's not about his legs it's about his brain. he feels like the leg is not his, it's like an object stuck on him and he wants to cut it off.
0:57 oh I thought they were a couple
I bet they are
It's hard for those with a normal brain and ability to think differently, to understand how those that suffer with this goes through.
He really just wants better parking at Walmart
Yes it DOES seem like YOU indeed want that
I don't think walmarts in Scotland....

That lady's accent is the thiccest I ever heard 😂
Can you tell where her accent is from?? Sounds kinda strong German because of pronunciation of specific letters, but the tone sounds very different
@@aspergerart4635 I’m 99% sure it’s not German. I have several friends that live in different regions in Germany, and they sound nothing like that. From some of the pronunciations of a lot of the words, it sounds almost like really thick Italian.
@@thebassguy0513 oh I'm 99% sure it's not italian 😋 because I speak spanish and one of my sisters speaks italian, and I know italian doesn't change the W sound to a V sound, as in German "Will" sounds like "Veel", also italian tone sounds different, German is different too, so it has to be some language from somewhere else 🤔 (plus, Italian doesn't have gutural R sounds)
So it is not french (2 of my bros speak French), not european nor latin spanish, not italian, not German...not English xD ....I need to know
@@aspergerart4635 My bad haha, I wasn’t aware of that. It’s possible it could be some sort of Slavic language. I’m not sure though. I’ll do some research.
@@thebassguy0513 I'm investigating her, she has been a teacher at UK universities, also an Italian university, so you could be half right, also in an Ontario Canada university, I'm guessing there she spoke french, so I'm guessing she actually has a mixed accent and that's why we are having troubles guessing xD
Maybe she has the strong italian accent, mixed up with the french acquired sounds, mixed with british english sounds and tones, and God knows if she is learning another one that is not connected to those universities xD
u should donate u leg to someone who wants to walk 🤔
cupcake cupcake you can't do that. It wouldn't have nerves connected to the brain
Still, I don't know if they could attach a leg and make it move again unless it's bionic.
Julia Merollis they've done hand and face transplants. They reconnect the nerves and blood supply. Google that shit!
even so the leg is a very large limb with large nerve and blood vessels.
You guys are not getting it. We know people have had face transplants, but how about a whole leg transplant? nope.
So many people in these comments are so rude. It’s a difficult condition to have and to understand, but it is a medical condition. People with BIID are struggling and as of right now we don’t know how to fix their problem outside of giving them what they want which isn’t ethically viable. Have a little compassion for people going through things you don’t understand.
I feel the same. I would never intentionally have my leg amputated but whenever I'm doing anything dangerous I think to myself " if something goes wrong maybe I'll get lucky and lose my leg " I know it's crazy but somehow I just know I would be happier that way
On a different note, his friend has the most amazing blue eyes Ive ever seen.
He is very handsome, Candid Camera.
That doctors accent is crazy, I’ve never heard anything like it
It is because she's Italian and our accent is very strong when speaking an another language
@@eleonora3593 she doesn`t have an Italian accent though... I`M Russian and I speak English and Italian.. This one doesn`t sound like Italian, which, BTW, is not that strong in general - comparing to Chinese, Slavic or Indian I`d say..
What Italian?? 😂🤣
@@Plaksa2004 I know an Italian doctor who's accent is as strong actually

i am for the freedom of choice, just cause i do no tunderstand something, or share it, doesnt mean, that its not the real and valid experience for other people. i´m glad this video showed this issue in a respectful way, and centered the affected person.
@94gymnast well then you don’t understand BIID
He’s not fine mentally. He needs a ton of medical help in his head not his leg. I hope he gets the help he needs.
If you are begging someone to cut off a healthy limb you are sick in your mind. I’m not saying I don’t feel for him. And I’m not saying his pain and sadness isn’t real.
LOL THE DOCTOR’S ACCENT HAS ME SHOOKETH!!
Surely if the brain didn’t recognise the leg you wouldn’t be able to walk or balance? Very interesting 🤔
good point! they should explain
I know a man that had a stroke and had no sensation on his right side, but managed to walk on it.
The brain might not recognise the leg as his own leg but it's someone else's leg stuck on him that's why he can move it, it's just not his
This is the definition of mental
Brown Dog danjer to himself and lost touch with reality
You ignorant people need to understand that there are far more mental illnesses out there apart from depeession and anxiety. The Media always says that mental disorders are getting more and more but the truth is that more people are admitting to having one because we are getting more tolerant. If you don't you thru the same thing he is than you don't have any right to judge him.
@@mbibi4230
yeah a danger to YOUR self and have lost touch with reality which seems similar to schizophrenia
The problem is in his brain not his leg.he cuts off his leg to get a prosthetic leg. That's insane
i wanted to do this in middle school because i wanted a laser cannon arm lmao
Bro but that's understandable doesn't everyone?
I wanted a robot iron man hand
"pew pew` says the arm
But when he binds his leg up like that, where does he put his foot?
Maybe up his bum
I clicked on this angrily because my mom struggles and suffers with life on one leg but it really seems like a mental disorder that can't be controlled rather than a stupid man looking for attention like I thought it was. I hope he gets the treatment he needs to feel healthy and save his mobility at the same time.
it's so interesting how this is very similar but different to gender dysphoria
If you support your friend cutting off a limb just because hey I think I want that, then you're not a good friend. A true friend would be like naw bro calm down there's no need for that.
❤❤I understand you perfectly. It's beautiful to feel your BIID and have the freedom to live it...❤❤
I can relate to this dude.
Hugs and prayers, girl.
...I'm sorry, human beings seem to delve out more mercy to their pets sadly. :(
I think it's a bit different but that really sucks dude. Do you think his brain maybe believe his leg is injured or abnormal in some way, like yours?
It's different you have real pain and real ugly leg. 24 hours not so bad. But it makes me angry that this guys get all tolerance and respect and people with real problem don't
The guys who fought in the wars and have lost limbs would love to trade places.
I heard about this disorder a few years ago. Some woman felt this way about one of her feet...I think that is what it was. After she had it removed, she said she had never been happier. It is a very odd and interesting disorder.
i hope he gets the treatment he needs to live a happy life.
