When the audience was floored by their concert performance, the audience started chanting “Primus sucks!!!” in appreciation for their performance. Word of mouth about Primus got around, and soon audiences everywhere responded in the same way.
It’s from their first live album. Suck on this live. Les Claypool says “We’re Primus and we suck.” I met Les and he was so nice and talks like he sings LOL

@@kristie825 I've struggled badly with depression most of my life, and there isn't much that can make me feel happy anymore. Listening to Primus is one of the rare things that genuinely makes me feel happy though, because their music to me is just absurdly good and I think that in just about every way they're an incredibly fun band to listen to. Whether it's Primus or any of his side projects, Les is simply amazing and so are the other members of Primus. I usually don't comment online anymore, but reading you talk about Les just made me want to say something especially since they're easily one of my top 5 bands.
That is Les as the main character in the video. My two favorite videos would be: “Those Damned Blue Collar Tweekers” live at Woodstock and “Tommy The Cat” live at Bonaroo.
You may like Green Jellÿ...I guess they spelled it Jello but got a copywrite "ban" i guess?🤷♂ Their most popular track is "Three Little Pigs"...yes..them pigs..they also have a song called "Green Jello sux"
I’ll one up you! I have the Green Jell-O CD with all the cartoon like art all over it. My sister, first real girlfriend, then later the woman I married all worked at a music store during the late 80’s till the mid 90’s in Pigeon Forge TN. Between the 3 of them I always got some of the coolest and rarest CD’s you could get during the time. I still have hundreds and hundreds of them. I always liked the way that CD looked. My favorites have to be either Body Count’s Cop Killer that was all black except for the loaded revolver pointing right at you on the CD. That one, or my 94’ Pink Floyd Pulse twin disc box. The box had an LED in the end of it that flashed. It would do a single flash, wait then repeat. The wild thing is this. After 1 year of pulling the tab to let the battery connect, or replacing a battery in it, the rhythm of the flash changes. It turns into a literal pulse pattern, so flash-flash, pause, repeat. It’s always 365 days too, I don’t know why they did it but it’s cool. I had the concert on laser disc in 97’ish. Still one of the greatest shows ever recorded.
Ahhh you are finally on to one of my favs. Best concert ever on my 16th birthday at CU field house...in the 90s. Good times!!! My nose got broken to Jerry was a race car driver! It was wonderful.
Their version of Devil Went Down to Georgia is maybe one of the most wild and unhinged lyrics. I highly recommend it as you are a guy that lives to give into the lyrics of songs.
Fun Fact: Primus Bassist Les Claypool auditioned for Metallica after Cliff Burton was killed in a bus crash. The boys in Metallica said he was awesome, just not what they were looking for. So Les started up Primus. Seen these guys a few times, always fun and interesting, and full of energy. Les was also in the excellent Supergroup Oysterhead with Stewart Copeland of The Police and Trey Anastasio of Phish, who I also saw on their first tour.
The guitarist Bucket Head pretty much had the same thing happen to him. He auditioned to be guitarist for Metallica and they said he was way too good for them. Because Metallica likes all of their band members to be of equal talent they didn't want one to be better than the others. So they turned him down.
Les was in a tech-thrash band called Blind Illusion, with Larry, well before Primus was big so its not unusual he would audition for Metallica because he was in that world. Also Larry was in the proto-Death metal band Possessed and he he;ped invent the genre. Primus has much deeper Metal roots than most know.
It was either Lars or James, but they actually grew up in the same area of California as Les. So, they knew him quite well before he auditioned for them.
I loved watching his face changing from one to another and back again throughout his reaction. 😂🤣 **Edited to add:** I introduced a bunch of their videos to my husband all in one go several years ago and his reactions had me laughing because he didn't know what to think, either, but likes the music.

LMAO!!! Seeing your reaction to this is pure joy. Love primus. Just seeing you frightened, eyes wide, like "what the actual fuck", but also grooving, and laughing. Typical visceral reaction that I have to primus too. Just amazing art. Frightened, grooving, laughing, all of it. Great artists.
First song I ever heard from these guys was Jerry was a Racecar Driver then a few months later saw them at Lollapalooza and became an instant fan. The one thing I'll say is they are one of those rare bands that are better appreciated live than through their albums.
Brings back memories of "The Box". I grew up watching this video on there, along with Mr. Krinkle (another good one). It's so infectious even my Mom, who doesn't care for this kind of music generally, had the cassette of this album. We still sometimes listen to it in the car 30 years later. And to this day, if I'm absent-mindedly drumming my fingers, it'll probably be this song's bass/drum line.
From time to time its great to have a different dish for dinner! There are plenty of bands out there which are just ....different! And it is a fantastic journey to discover them
Female here. Love Primus!!! Been a huge fan since the early 90's. Saw them in concert in '93 or '94. Les is an amazing bassist!!! Check out their song "Mr. Krinkle" and "Here Come the Bastards"...😊
This morning, I was listening to; Cyndi Lauper (Time after Time) ...followed by; Pantera (I'm broken) Snarky Puppy (We Like It Here) and now; TOOL (Ticks and Leeches) ....music is a buffet, enjoy.
I saw Primus in a venue with very little security. Les Claypool was able to keep the crowd under control from the stage like a pro. Someone threw a bottle onstage and he told the crowd, he had the crowd point out who did it, and said that if he does it again they were packing up and leaving. Someone told me he owns a wine orchard and bar in Napa Valley and bartends there and most of the people that go there have no idea that he's a legend in the rock world. Love that you love Primus. (There were a lot of females at that show.)
I saw PRIMUS last night live, last minute call from friend and a free ticket. They played "My Name is Mud" with the above video matching perfectly with Les Clayppool playing it in real time right over the 30 year old video of the 6 string bass. and "Mr.Krinkle". Les Claypool wore the pig mask. MIND BLOWING and Psychedelic. Major WOW factor !
Early 90s a chic took me to a concert at a small college venue, crowd was chanting Primus sux and I was like no way what’s wrong with these people and she laughed yada yada yada 😁 you still got one of the best intros my boy
You got to react to Primus' performance of Those Damn Blue Collar Tweekers from Woodstock 94 BUT, if you do, search for the "full set" and scroll tothe song. For some reason, every reaction of this performance is from a video where the coolest part of performance is edited out....when Les plays tribute to Hendrix's 1969 performance at the original Woodstock.
There's music that breaks your heart, music that stirs your soul, and then there is music that just scrambles your brain. Primus puts the your brain in a blender and hits the puree button!
I was working some of the small venues and I was asked to work a show last minute and when I showed up they didn't need me but I was up and dressed in there so I thought I'd stay. It was Primus and fishbone.... Which is odd enough but you have to put this in the early '90s. Hands down the best show I ever saw. Less popped out of the stage or I should say stuck his head out of the hole in the stage in the middle of fishbone set and started doing some sort of hand puppet show until they noticed him and then they dragged him on stage and put a base in his hand and Primus just sort of played with fishbone and then fishbone had been on stage for a couple of hours and they just started to wander off and then wander back in and fishbone sort of played with Primus.... Again, hands down the best show I ever saw.
Fun fact, Larry LaLonde, the guitarist, was the guitarist for Possessed in the early 80's . They are by all means regarded by most as the grandfather's of Death Metal. He's been with Primus since 1989.

Les Claypool is the bassist and he is the one you see saying “My Name is Mud”.
My friend and I were there in San Jose California at the cactus club where Primus got their start the cactus club is also known as the practice club here's they came out on stage and they got basically booed off stage by saying you suck you suck you suck then they came out with their next album which was a hit and it was called suck on this
Just saw them live last night. They are incredible!!!!
I've seen Primus along with A Perfect Circle and Pucifer earlier this year at Pine Knob.
It was the best live experience I've been to so far.
Primus, Cpt. Beefheart, Zappa
There are few really unique artists, that made it to the many...
Congrats man!
Dude! Glade you liked it man. Been a Primus fan since the mid 90s and I am a bass player as well. Keep going with their Catalog. Anti pop or Laquer Head next. Or anything else really lol!
Dude, they have so much material you could react to. And I'm here for it.
"Jerry was a racecar driver"
That and tommy the cat
My Name is Mud is my favorite Primus Song lol.....
LOVE Primus and all of their work....
Of the most unique and talented bands ever to be on the scene !
It almost sound like each of them are playing their own song, and it just overlaps by accident. It’s beautiful chaos.
muddy waters was an amazing blues singer
Love that dirty water
Standelles
O'l black water Doobie brothers
Take me to the river
The Cars
I come from the water
The Toadies
Tbc
I love me some Primus 🎶music is life !! 🙋🏻♀️
Whaaaat WHAT!!
Those slaps are iconic
Brings back memories of "The Box". I grew up watching this video on there, along with Mr. Krinkle (another good one). It's so infectious even my Mom, who doesn't care for this kind of music generally, had the cassette of this album. We still sometimes listen to it in the car 30 years later. And to this day, if I'm absent-mindedly drumming my fingers, it'll probably be this song's bass/drum line.
Deliverance/twin peaks.
Been singing on this tune since it came out, I was about 13 years.
Mu-mu-mu-m-ud
From time to time its great to have a different dish for dinner! There are plenty of bands out there which are just ....different! And it is a fantastic journey to discover them
Female here. Love Primus!!! Been a huge fan since the early 90's. Saw them in concert in '93 or '94. Les is an amazing bassist!!! Check out their song "Mr. Krinkle" and "Here Come the Bastards"...😊
You absolutely have to do those damn blue-collar tweakers live at Woodstock
This morning, I was listening to;
Cyndi Lauper (Time after Time) ...followed by;
Pantera (I'm broken)
Snarky Puppy (We Like It Here) and now; TOOL (Ticks and Leeches) ....music is a buffet, enjoy.
Sounds like my house at any given moment.
@@kennethbartlett4302
...that's a nice house.
From ABBA to Zappa…!

...and also 311.

Music in the 90’s. anything went. That environment lead to some really unique bands…like Primus here. Very different, very fun, and very talented.
I admit i watch a lot of reactions, but your honesty and intelligence is the only one i like, you deserve to be paid
American life has always been my favorite Primus song and still to this day gives me chills Every time I hear it!
4:22... the look on your face..😂
+1 for Mr. Krinkle, the video is awesome plus a great song. Your videographer friend will love it.
One of my favorite primus songs, HELLYEAH
Dude your face while watching this video....priceless!😂
"Jerry Was A Race Car Driver", another great one.
“How are they doing This” is the best comment you could ever make about Primus
I'm a female and I absolutely LOVE Primus! Haven't had the good fortune to be at one of their shows but I would go in a heartbeat had I the chance!
Les Claypool sung it by himself for the video (still old). He's a GENIUS! Primus the Genius! 👍🎸
I’m a female who’s been to a Primus show! Why not? Great fun!
Love your reaction….
It’s like it’s so disturbing….. but you can’t stop listening or watching….. love primus…..
They are infectious, weird and have mega talent what's not to love!!! 🔥🔥🔥
These guys are great musicians
Early 90s a chic took me to a concert at a small college venue, crowd was chanting Primus sux and I was like no way what’s wrong with these people and she laughed yada yada yada 😁 you still got one of the best intros my boy
Primus covered one of my all-time favorite Rush albums.
"A Farewell to Kings"
AWESOME RESPECT!
and the flying frog brigade played the entire pink floyd animals album. it's so good i honestly feel they made les les.
Youre kiddung....i love PRIMUS, just saw them theyre freaking awesome❤
You got to react to Primus' performance of Those Damn Blue Collar Tweekers from Woodstock 94 BUT, if you do, search for the "full set" and scroll tothe song. For some reason, every reaction of this performance is from a video where the coolest part of performance is edited out....when Les plays tribute to Hendrix's 1969 performance at the original Woodstock.
Yes 👍🏼 I agree 100 %. Damb blue collar tweekers is my favorite song by Primus and this particular show was amazing.
There's music that breaks your heart, music that stirs your soul, and then there is music that just scrambles your brain. Primus puts the your brain in a blender and hits the puree button!
All time favorite Primus song is Tommy the Cat, especially when you catch it live! It's because of Les that I started playing bass.
Saw them live in 99 they were playing with Buckethead. They were fantastic live
The Ballad of Buckethead is a good funky song that gets over looked.
Muddy Waters is one of the greatest blues musicians of all time and my personal favorite. Particularly with John Cotton on harmonica.
I went to see him in concert in the 90s. Their music hits differently in person. Mosh pits were a banger
Fun fact, Larry LaLonde, the guitarist, was the guitarist for Possessed in the early 80's . They are by all means regarded by most as the grandfather's of Death Metal. He's been with Primus since 1989.
Ive been trying to not headbang since Tuesday morning... Whiplash, torn calf, from the 5fdp, Manson, and Slaughter show... Epic fail watching this 😂 looooove it!! Awesome reaction!!
