Around 25 years ago Primus started a set with My Name Is Mud. I was front and left in a smallish club. That driving bass line felt like it was crushing my ribs. I had to slide a bit right to get away from the amp. I've been to thousands of shows. I've never had to move away from an amp in my life. Claypool is a character and one of the best bassist ever. He's also a pretty funny writer. His songs and his book. Primus is a great rabbit hole. One that spans over 30 years.

I know exactly what you're saying. In yr 2000 I saw The Melvins at Slims, a small club in SF Bay Area. I started out in front just to the side of the stage. And when they came out and started the SPL from the amp almost blew me back a little! And I'm not a small guy! During that entire long show, the volumes of everything were so high I was unable to swallow even drinks of beer, as they kept getting stuck in my throat and wouldn't go down. Then I couldn't hear correctly for about 5 days afterwards. All in all, Buzz and the band put on a great show. THE MELVINS were the loudest band I've ever heard in my life.

I was working on the video crew of an outdoor venue in Nashville and we were covering Lollapalooza with Primus headlining and at one point we were backstage in the area where everyone eats and Les and the band were there, but we were strictly instructed not to talk to anyone so I didn't get to meet him. When Primus came out as the final act, they had super dark purple lighting, mostly all from behind them, and the cameras couldn't even see them to focus or tell who was who so we just shut down the video feed except for one wide shot and got to sit back and watch their set, since we couldn't start breaking anything down until the audience had all cleared out. So perfectly put Aileen at the first pause. That's what all great art should be: an intimate impression of the expressions of others. Allow it to be whatever it may happen to be, without essays and analytical critiques, using the piece itself as a vehicle. This is heavy funk at its best. When their album Frizzle Fry came out in early 90s I became obsessed with Primus. To me they were the pinnacle of artistic musical expression.( My holy trinity of Primus - Melvins - Helmet ...so good) Great to see that even over three decades people are still enjoying the journey of discovering them. Your reactions are always spot on, emotionally charged yet assessed pragmatically.

I was first introduced to this song through Beavis and Butthead back in the mid 90's.. very shortly after moving into the house I now own. It was winter of that year.. and I remember quite vividly watching Beavis and Butthead after the sun went down.. with barely a stitch of furniture in the house.. just starting out after having moved from California with my now wife and before we had kids. Those were the days lol.

I’ve been seeing Primus live since like 1990, including all of the first 4 or 5 NYE specials. Saw Tool at one, playing songs from AEnima 9+ months before the album came out.
For the next Primus to check out, I can’t recommend the live version of Southbound Pachyderm. It’s like 2x the length of the album version. m.ruclips.net/video/h4IvShMEKdY/видео.html
Some other important classics of theirs: Jerry was a Racecar Driver, Those Damn Blue Collar Tweakers, Here Comes the Bastards, Frizzle Fry, Too Many Puppies, To Defy the Laws of Tradition, Fish On, American Life…
Heck, if you want to check out an extended live set, check out their set from Woodstock’94.

I was fortunate to see Primus at Red Rocks a couple times, and also with Sean Lennon at a small venue here in Denver over the last last ten years. His tribute concert to RUSH, with 'Farewell To Kings' was fantastic too!!

Been a fan over 30 years now and whenever I have to explain them, I say either Pink Floyd, Rush, and Frank Zappa had a musical baby or...
If the circus had a house band, it would definitely be Primus. I hope you enjoy your foray under the big top with the rest of us Primates.
P.s. if you hear someone say "Primus Sucks", it's a term of endearment.. or a calling card to other fans.
If I may leave a suggestion, try "The Toys Go Winding Down" or "Those Damn Blue-Collar Tweakers"
