Great vid as always! 3 years on Vatsim and have diverted a couple of times (last one was EDDH to EDDL during an event). Offered EDDB due to lengthy delays and ATC gave vectors to initial waypoint. EDDB approach were all ready for me when I contacted them and was very smooth, like nothing happened.
This was really important for me, amazing tutorial as always!
Good sequence. However, when it comes to the divertion far-far-away from the departure airport (after a long haul, for example), Airbus have quite useful "ALTN" MCDU chapter in F-PLN, where we can select SID, route, STAR and APPRoach exactly from destination into divertion. I used this page to divert a few times on the VATSIM, both when virtual ATC covered alternate airspace and when ATC didn't, so I relied fully on charts without instructions, using generated and chosen alternate route from Simbrief. When the real long haul pilots could or should use this special ALTN PRE-programmed path for diversion and whhen they shouldn't or couldn't?
Curious - wouldn't you want to set this all up in the secondary flight plan first before programming it in...? Unless the diversion is immediate I guess...
Awesome! Definitely cleared some stuff up for me.
I have one question though, is there any ATC phraseology involved when diverting?
He said in the video the first thing you'll do is inform ATC, who is then likely to work out a new route for you.
Would you be able to do a 777 CTP tutorial before the event?
No
Did iFly not offer you the max??? They knew u give the most honest review….which is why I watch this channel- looking forward to your review on it when’s it’s released.
I assume bad weather is the most frequent reason for a diversion. How do pilots receive this information?
From the airline through ACARS? Does the aircraft monitor metars at the destination and raise alarms if weather gets too extreme? Something else?
