      Thank you! And no worries, there's no harm in trying things! If you're concerned you can always take off all your pricey gear and just go in the ship in the default undersuit and helmet so if you blow up the only harm done is a little bit of time lost and hopefully you learn something along the way! The arrow is the most effective in atmo because it has wings, you have to use the wings to turn and not thrusters. It is amazing that they got the flight characteristics right. Fly it in a fight just like an F16 would and you will not be touched. Rotate the aircraft and turn using the wing surfaces and not the thrusters.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад +2

      thanks, yeah I did do that in a few fights but then it's tough to fight in a way that lets you keep your nose pointed at enemies for more than a pass at a time, and they recharge a bit between passes. I'm still working on figuring out what works best for atmo combat, but so far you can still use space tactics pretty decently on moons since their grav and atmo density isn't that high.

    • @saitamaonepunchman8176

    Thanks to you I now realise why I always hated gimbals - I used them with cannons. I always put it down to gimbals being broken and/or bad servers.
    Shout out to Spectre as a short range jump drive. I use it on ships I don't intend to take beyond a planet and its moons, maybe some nearby lagrange points, and in return it gives the fastest short range jumps in the game, shaving seconds off which add up over many bounty hunts.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад +1

      Yeah! In 3.15 gimbals got an update that made them much more usable (they were pretty busted in 3.14). On top of that, they just really don't seem like they work well with cannons... I've tried on a few agile ships now (Talon, Khartu-al, Arrow) and I haven't really ever gotten them to work well for me in that combination. I do like them with repeaters though!

    Alright, alright, I'll put gimbals back on my Arrow. I tried gimbals and didn't like them; felt like they just couldn't hit as reliably as I could especially in the Arrow. But you make a good point about atmo flying being a whole new ball of yarn. Great video as always. Keep em comin!

  • @humanbeing9079

    High yoyo, immelmann are all useful maneuvers in atmo.
    People with a pure space sim background often fixate on always pointing the nose at the target without the concept of lag/pure/lead pursuit.(since angle of attack is basically not a factor in space)
    Knowing when NOT to point the nose at the target is key to preserving energy, and getting more firing time on target when you do set up the maneuver.
    Use the vertical component to your advantage. When you have more energy than your opponent, a climbing spiral helps bleed off speed and tighten your turn, while your opponent can't keep up, making them the perfect target.
    When your opponent have significantly more energy than you, a downward spiral makes them overshoot.
    Hopefully this is helpful to someone out there. o7

      Definitely! my knowledge of air combat maneuvers is pretty novice but it definitely is useful! thank you!

    • @TomOliverez
      @TomOliverez 3 года назад +2

      I feel like these ship's are way too arcade-y in atmosphere to take advantage of energy mgmt techniques with these wildly unrealistic flight models. All these ships are capable of exiting atmosphere on there own, surviving ship disintegrating structural strain, and your character can sustain God tier g-forces so energy and vertical considerations seem overly devalued if simply not worth the extra consideration. What do you think?

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад

      @@TomOliverez You are impacted by gravity in atmosphere, so especially if you're in a slightly larger ship which is less agile you can take advantage of some of these things a bit better by slowing movement while going "up" and increasing movement taking advantage of gravity while going "down". But yeah generally I think you're right.

    • @spaceerror_3571
      @spaceerror_3571 2 года назад

      Not sure if High yoyo still useful in here, in traditional air to air combat you need it to preserve energy while prevent overshoot, but arrow in this game has much better thruster force to weight ratio and maneuverability which allow it to almost instantly gain or lose speed, you could just keep point at the enemy while holding s and gain the speed back up when you complete the turn.

    1:27 "the best way to do damage now is to have more weapons" can this philosophy be applied to the Anvil Hawk as well im thinking of going all gimballed size 1s.. Also where is the Hawk video for pve bounties?

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад

      yep it can! the overall dps loss by going to s1s instead of s2s is pretty minimal. I don't have a Hawk right now since I lost it with the 3.15 wipe, but I have one concern with it and that's its really low hull hp. In space, this was less of an issue because the hawk was agile enough to avoid most incoming fire, but in atmosphere the lighter fighters are taking some more hits due to the atmospheric resistance slowing them down. The hawk does have 2 size1 shields, but there's a bug right now where laser repeater fire is penetrating shields (when it's not supposed to) so you'll be taking a bit of hull hp even if your shields are up, and that could end up putting the hawk in a bad spot. If you have one and try it out, I'd love to hear how its performing for you, and whether or not you feel like you're suffering from that bug.

    I recommend upgrading the power plant to the lowest reponse PP that still provides enough power for the ship. On a S1 ship the response time is 1.5 seconds and can go as high as 15 I believe. It's been a great quality of life change I've made.

    • @WingZeroType

    Hey there Zero, thanks so much for the killer videos you really are one of the main reasons i still play this game and my fighting skills have improved so much. anyways, I've been having a LOT of fun with the 85x Limited fully outfitted & running 4x xj1's as an atmo bounty fighter & GVHRT assist ship. I'd really like you to take one out for a little fun and tell me what your thoughts are?

    • @adaa60
      @adaa60 2 года назад +1

      i chose this setup after I noticed the issues with the Arrow in atmo, but the 85x is almost 20,000kg lighter with very similar pitch/yaw/roll and the 4x distortion cannons make for a really fast & fun fall to the surface! PS breaks work amazing and its a smaller overall target than the arrow in a nose to nose fight and pvp time with it is a lot of fun as well during jumptown & such

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words! And that's interesting - I haven't actually flown that ship in combat yet, it's one of the very few that i haven't flown but I want to. When you say its a GVHRT assist ship do you mean you are partnering with someone else who can do hull damage to the enemies, since the distortion wouldn't be able to kill any bounties that spawn in space (or bounties that are on moons with basically no gravity?). The rotational pitch/roll/yaw rates don't tell the whole story for ships, there's also translational rates which is how many G's of thrust can the ship output in a given direction, and thats where the Arrow/Gladius really excel as single-seat fighters. I'd expect the 85x limited to be much lower there which means even though it may be able to point to the enemy as quickly as the other ships, it wouldn't be able to move around to position itself as easily. In the current implementation where you can fight multiple really tricky enemies at a time I think it'd be really challenging to pull off but it could be fun. On a ship with 4 guns I'd probably only use 1 xj1 and I'd make sure to gimbal it all but I think the ship should be able to make it happen :) I'm a bit busy with some real-life stuff right now but when I get a chance to get to this i'll let you know!

    one thing to consider that no one mentions is that gimbaling weapons lowers their heat dispersion and makes them much more susceptible to overheating. I've noticed that putting giblets size 2 repeaters on a size 3 hard point leads to overheating, while just putting a size 3 repeater on the same hard point has no issues with overheating.
    any comments on that?

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад +3

      I've only seen this with the arrow when using laser cannons. I haven't ever overheated repeaters (which is my preferred loadout) so I don't think it's an issue. But for cannons, it definitely becomes a limiting factor, and that's yet another reason I don't like gimballed cannons lol. It matters on a ship-by-ship basis it seems.

  • @Zormac
    @Zormac 3 года назад +1

    For shield, don't use the Palisade. Use the Mirage. It has the same HP and HP/sec as the Palisade (Patch 3.16), but much less heat generated. And for Powerplant, use Slipstream for that low "Power Draw Request Time" of 1.25 sec. And it goes without saying that the QD should be the Atlas.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад +1

      The voyage actually is a bit faster than the Atlas and can get anywhere in the verse on one tank. It's been my go to since 3.16 where the atlas was annoyingonly out of the way.
      Power draw request time doesn't really matter in PvE because you'll never get shut down in combat so I recommend just using whatever comes on the ship as long as it provides enough power.
      The palisade has better ballistic resistance so it's a better shield than all the others in 3.16, and I've never had shield heat been a problem with it. Your ship will generate high signature anyway while in combat so it doesn't really make a material difference

    At 2:03 what is the setting to change the targeting where you put the reticle on the ship and not have to aim ahead if that makes sense

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  2 года назад

      The aiming mode that I'm using is called "Lag PIP" which is something you can manually set. "Lead PIP" is the aiming mode that's on by default and is what you're currently using. You can change them in game by changing the default targeting reticule option in the gameplay settings (first options menu when you go to settings) or by setting a key to toggle between the two modes under "Flight - Targeting/Switch Flight Lead / Lag Reticle (Toggle)" in your advanced keybinds.
      some notes about the two:
      - Lead PIP's reticule shows you where you should fire your shot so that it will hit the targeted enemy based on how you and the target are currently moving. In this situation, your eyes are likely looking at the targeting reticle which is in front of the enemy.
      - Lag PIP makes the reticule show you where your shot will land based on how you and the target are currently moving (it can still miss if the target changes speed/direction after you've fired the shot, same as with lead PIP). In this situation, your goal is to place the reticule on top of the enemy's ship since that's where you want the shot to land. Because of this, your eyes are likely looking at the enemy ship since thats where you're trying to place the reticule, which makes it so that you can better predict and respond to the enemy's actions like turning or changing direction.
      - I also prefer lag PIP because with the lead PIP, the targeting indicator only goes green when you're lined up to perfectly hit the target in their center of mass. But with lag PIP, you can see when you're not hitting exactly in the center but you're still going to catch the edge of the target and do damage so you can better decide when it's worth it to shoot or not.

      Thanks! IMO, the mantle of "King of Bounty Hunting" is back to the Sentinel after the 3.16 changes. The aiming changes have decreased the effectiveness of both Ares and combined with the additional fuel consumption in atmospheric bounties, that puts the sentinel ahead. I've actually been able to more effectively kill a hammerhead with a sentinel using laser cannons than the Ares Ion.

  • @diminios
    @diminios 3 года назад +1

    ...oh my. I just tried this setup (flew the Arrow in the asteroids with full cannons, and later, with full (fixed) repeaters). It's amazing! In and out of atmo! I dump the capacitor on the target as I pass, by the time I'm done turning around, the guns have already recharged! And it's agile AF in atmo, compared to something like a Sentinel! The biggest downside to it, as far as I can see, is that it doesn't do much for improving my (limited) aiming skills.
    Btw, you mentioned the Banu Defender - what setup would you recommend with it? Fully gimballed as well?

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад +2

      yeah the arrow is great! the biggest downside for me was the low shield amounts, against 4 enemies in VHRTs I had to disengage quite a few times, but hopefully I get better and can become more effective with it in atmo as time goes on :)
      For the Defender, I've been liking a full fixed repeater setup, it's agile enough to be able to land its shots without gimbals and not so overly agile that it'll be difficult to aim with your movements, so i've been liking this fit so far. I've tried cannons in the past as well and they are decent but given that VHRTs can contain some light fighters as well, I tend to prefer repeaters unless you've got a S5 cannon on your ship.

    Hi! I've just started in SC and I love the bounty misions. My first ship is the Avenger Titan but I think I want to upgrade it. I've rented the Warden but it is so slow and cannot change the S5 mount.. What would you recomend me for the next step? Love your vids! Thank you!

      Welcome to the verse! And thanks for the kind words, I'm really glad you're liking my vids!
      I apologize in advance for this wall of text :)
      So the Warden is the slowest of all the vanguards - they all have the same thrust but the warden is about 40% heavier than the others. My starter ship is also the Avenger Titan and I personally went with the Sentinel as my next ship because even though it's slower in maneuvering than light/medium fighters, the firepower and shields that it has are fantastic and it's excellent at NPC bounty hunting missions if you fit it with the S5 laser cannon and S2 MVSA laser cannons. It's hard to get a feel for their firepower with the rented ships b/c (like you said) you can't change the loadout, which is a really important part of setting up a ship for combat. If that type of mobility is just too low for your tastes, then you're looking at light and medium fighters, which will be a bit harder to handle in Atmospheric bounties in 3.16 I think b/c you can't really use as much maneuvering when you're in the moon/planetary atmosphere like you can in space. But in that case, I've been enjoying the Banu Defender (thanks to it's S2 shields, decent agility, and good firepower) but it is pretty expensive at around 2.7M aUEC and the styling is polarizing (you either think its super cool or you hate it lol). I need a bit more experience with different ships in atmosphere before recommending others, since those new types of bounties are a big part of bounty missions going forward. I've used the gladius and the arrow, and I've done ok with both but I've found the lower shields make me have to disengage from the fight more often. That is to say, you can do it with any of the fighters but the small/medium fighters will probably be slower at overall mission completion, even though they're "faster" ships :) The new patch is still early so this could change but my personal preference is currently looking like:
      1. Vanguard sentinel
      2. Banu Defender
      3. Gladius
      4. Arrow
      5. Hornet
      6. Sabre
      still need more experience to rank them: Freelancer, Buccaneer, Reliant, Constellations, 100-series, 300-series, 600i, Auroras, Mustangs, Avengers, Hawk, Khartu-al, Talon

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад +1

      @@EndComm So one thing to note is that if you got the referral gift argo cargo, any money you spend to upgrade that cannot be "melted" (aka turned back into credits). You can keep upgrading it to other ships in the future if you want but that money can never be turned back into credits so I would only upgrade that ship to something pretty cheap, personally. Also, the Titan is good enough to keep chugging along through bounties, but you're right, it is a grind lol. The Gladius and Arrow are both good ships though, they're both very agile fighters and really fun to fly. The gladius is a bit more tanky whereas the Arrow does more dps and is a bit more precise, so it kind of comes down to what you prefer. Personally, I think I'll probably prefer the gladius since atmospheric bounties output a lot of dps and having the extra shield is nice since you can't dodge the incoming fire as easily as in space.

      Totally agreed that it's way harder but it's still doable. You have to angle your engagement a bit more carefully (you can't just fly into the center of all the enemies willy nilly) and by performing corkscrews and/or flying decoupled you're able to get the enemy to miss some shots. The Arrow/gladius also do a better job of avoiding incoming fire than many other ships due to their small profiles but I still have to disengage sometimes to recharge my shields if one of the wingmen gets a clean shot at me.

    Do you still recommend gimballed weapons? Trying to decide between the arrow and gladius.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  2 года назад +1

      Yeah I like gimballed weapons on the arrow since the turret on the back of the arrow is gimballed by default, and you only lose a tiny amount of dps by gimballing the size 3's down to size 2s. But the arrow is so nimble you could easily go fixed weapons as well if you wanted to, and that would give you some greater control in VHRTs when you're fighting valkyries/wardens/hurricanes with their "infinite" size 2 shield bug where the front shield doesn't go down if you hit it head one (since it often registers the damage against the back shield in those cases). In those situations you want to try to hit the back edge of the ship so that your damage is registered against the back hull, and having fixed weapons helps with that type of precision aiming. However, if you're missing a lot of shots anyway might as well go gimballed. With the gladius, I've been using fixed weapons and i'm happy enough with my performance with those that I've kept it fixed, but i don't think there's anything wrong with going gimballed. If you're trying to decide between the two, I think I personally prefer the gladius because it feels more forgiving, and having an extra s2 shield can be really helpful when you're fighting outnumbered and let you recharge shields mid-fight without needing to fully disengage. But there's no wrong answer, they're both absolutely incredible light fighters and I fly them both regularly. The arrow has a bit higher dps but the gladius is a bit chiller to fly thanks to its extra shield.

    I put the same guns you got in the loadout side but got less ammo in the repeaters is it because of a other power plant or do you have other repeaters equiped in the combat part?

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад +2

      The power plant that you're using won't affect the power, but the capacitor settings will! In the power MFD in the ship you have the power triangle and if you put the full power to weapons you get more ammo and faster ammo recharge. I typically keep my power set to max weapons for this purpose and only swap it to shields or thrusters when I need to recharge those. I've mapped keybinds in the advanced keybind settings to set max weapon power, thruster power, and shield power to the 1, 2, and 3 keys on the keyboard and on a hat switch on my joystick to make it easy to swap the power around with one motion during combat :)

      I went with dual Gladiator NXT joysticks, I'm really happy with them. They have more than enough buttons to map everything I need and the quality seems plenty good enough. You can go cheaper or more expensive depending on what your price point is. I started with bindings that were developed by BuzZzKiller in conjunction with Subliminal and then remapped a bunch of stuff based on what I liked and what made sense to me. I ended up with the following: i.imgur.com/KPIBpAm.png This part was actually the most time consuming of the whole process but it was well worth it to have the buttons feel second nature since in the heat of combat you don't want to spend time thinking about what button something is mapped to. Then finally before actually flying in the PU with them I did some Arena commander to get used to them and build a bit of muscle memory. My concern was that I didn't want to have all the downtime of respawning in the PU, but thanks to all the time I spent making good bindings I actually didn't take long at all in AC before I was not dying anymore. Anyway, I hope that helps! BTW, depending on what sticks you get, you can map curves on the axis directly in to the joystick, or by using a 3rd party program. Gladiator NXTs supported flashing the curves into the sticks themselves so that's what I did using their provided software.

You keep mentioning "Only a 5% loss to sustained DPS" where the DPS of larger weapons is about a 10-25% increase in damage, so I assume it has something to do with capacitors and how they affect your actual damage performance based on the size of the weapons. The hornet ghost can totally go gimballed weapons - swap the nose with the nose and back turrets from the super hornet (you don't need to buy the superhornet, you can just get the turrets in stores for cheap) and then you only need to gimbal the wings. For the hawk, you'd have to drop all your size 2s to a size 1 so you'd lose a chunk of dps so you'd have to play that by ear based on how well you can aim the fixed weapons. I like going fixed on the hawk but if you feel like you miss enough shots fixed that the gimbals lower your time to kill, then that's what you should go with.

      Yep you could do that, but I think it would be less efficient than just having a full laser loadout (which does more damage) and just killing them. Also, depending on where the distortion damage goes and how high up in the atmosphere you are, you might not even disable them long enough to make them crash. It's something that I'm considering playing around with but I'm not sure it'll be the most effective loadout.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад +1

      Hey I wanted to come back and reply to you again because I've had some more time to play around with distortion weapons. I think against hammerheads they're a no-brainer. The ability to shut down the HH makes it so much of a safer and easier kill that I think I'd always use them there.
      For VHRTs it's a little bit more on the fence. Against hurricanes, I think they're worth while because Hurricanes have enough hull hp that you will shut them down before they would've died and that actually lets you get a faster kill sometimes because you can land shots more easily and have one less source of incoming damage. The reason I'm not yet convinced it's always the best option is because Valkyries and Wardens actually take longer to kill using distortion vs using a full laser repeater loadout. So in the end the time to kill ends up averaging out roughly the same. I will probably recommend it since it can make hurricanes easier to deal with, and they're the most annoying targets due to their smaller size and high hull hp.

      @@rogerstalder7184 whoa you're trying to take out an Idris by yourself! That's a big task! You probably want to maximize your dps so I'd go with a heavy fighter most likely. I'm personally partial to the vanguards, but if you have friends with you you'll probably do more damage with a redeemer (although they're not available in-game until 3.17 and they're really expensive). If you're going with the original arrow loadout just be aware that they have mixed repeaters and cannons. That makes it harder to aim since the repeaters and cannons have different projectile velocities. And if you're trying to take out an idris you might benefit from going for a full cannon loadout since they do more dps due to being more capacitor efficient and since your target is giant it's not like you're going to miss your shots lol

      @@rogerstalder7184 so all the weapons fall in different categories. Distortion weapons do distortion damage, which can shut down components but don't do any hull damage to ships. Laser weapons are your bread-and-butter all around weapons that have good damage, range, and don't run out of ammo. balistic weapons have very limited ammo but do higher burst dps than laser weapons, don't require capacitor energy, and can partially penetrate shields with their damage and deal hull damage even while shields are up. certain weapons (like pyrobursts and ballistic c-788 cannons) do explosive damage, which can destroy internal components of ships and permanently disable them.
      Within each category listed above, there are different options (e.g. neutrons vs other types of laser weapons) but right now those are mostly the same while the weapons are being rebalanced. It's all a bit of a mess right now but that's because they're in the process of fixing it and trying to give each type of weapon it's own unique feel and characteristics in a balanced way. I'm not sure when they'll make more progres on that, but for now you mostly can stick with laser repeaters and cannons, unless you want to add in some distortion weapons (as a supplement to your laser loadout) to disable enemies as you're fighting them. This can be useful against more challenging targets... but I'm not sure how long it would take to disable an Idris.... probably a very long time lol

    What repeaters are you using??

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад +1

      I typically use CF-series repeaters since they're the cheapest, and the s2 badgers are also the most accurate repeaters in the game since they have slightly less weapon spread than the NDB or attrition repeaters. In 3.16.1 the dps of all the repeaters are pretty much the same so you can really just use whatever you already have on hand, or you can use the NDBs if you like the blue projectiles, or if you want to get the slightly better accuracy for the S2s you can get the CF-badgers. for S1 and S3s, it's all the same for all the repeaters.

      @WingZeroType  2 года назад

      a PIP is just a preference thing, it won't change how well the weapons can actually hit the target. I'm very used to a lag pip and aiming my ship so that the cursor is on the enemy's ship and gimballed weapons work fine with it

  • @Corsair114
    @Corsair114 3 года назад +1

    Thank fuck they're nerfing gimbals in the near future. Hopefully they won't work on light fighters soon, nothing with that much maneuverability should have that much auto-aim.
    Now they just need to cut the hardpoint sizes on the Arrow and Gladius by 1 across the board, and reduce the capacitor on each by around 25% and they'll be doing pretty good.
    [Edit]
    And knock a shield generator off the Gladius if they're gonna keep it as agile as it is.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 года назад

      hmmm I think your suggestions go too far, but I wonder if some hardpoints decreases can help solve the issue. The thing is the ships are probably hardpointed for whatever ideas they're thinking of related to physicalized damage and armor, and the balance that will ensure after that. Gimbals will also have a much bigger implicit nerf when that happens since theoretically a lower sized weapon can't punch through armor as effectively, so the dps loss is more significant. I agree the gladius feels quite tanky with 2 shield generators, but I think it'd be a bit too flimsy with just 1. In that situation, you'd also fly the arrow since it has more dps, is more agile, and it's smaller (so more survivable).

    • @WingZeroType

      The arrow is ultra-agile so it can pull a lot of Gs if you're turning while thrusting hard in multiple dimensions - in space it's even easier to hit high G levels because there's no atmosphere to push through. The G's aren't being generated by gravity, they're being generated by the thrust of your engines and all the various thrusters located around the ship.
