The United States and Russia maintain roughly 1,800 of their nuclear weapons on high-alert status - ready to be launched within minutes of a warning. Dude. You have like no room for anything in that? Also, do those air pipes have filters in them against airborne contaminants like viruses or fallout? This is definitely a really cool design and all, I like it a lot, but with there being no room for jack shit in there other than comforts and not actual necessities, I call that poor prepping. I'd say you need an entire other container for food, water, medical supplies, ammo, etc. If shit hits the fan, I'm not gonna be worrying about having a wine rack, that's for sure.

It’s gonna be messy. It’s gonna be cramped. Food supply.. medical supply.. control room for radiation and comm equipments.. weapons... ammos.. folding cots or hanging cots to sleep in.. those are the necessities.. These people only have the money to waste but don’t think “survival”. The world ain’t much worth living in if the only people to survive are idiots.

    • @danielblack4313
      @danielblack4313 5 лет назад +4

      Okay he said it poorly but I agree that this is not what I want to see inside the "shelter". This should be ultra utilitarian with metal everything and bunk beds on the wall, etc. Also I agree if I did something like this, I'd purchase another one to go beside it for storage. Truth be told they should design this with two of the cargo containers about 8 feet apart with the entrance coming down between them. The generator room could be off of the storage room so it wouldn't be so loud also. Having the storage room would provide a place for extra propane which I assume is what the generator, runs off of. As a note, having solar on top of the house feed this would be a bonus. Maybe a system to also pull water from an inground pool.

    This is great as a storm shelter. I see a lot of people coming up with extreme and unlikely circumstances just to talk it down. Sure it’s not perfect for long term survival, but for temporary safety it is much safer than hiding in a bedroom that’s not reinforced. Maybe it wouldn’t suffice against a professional hit man but if this owner was intending it for that purpose then at the very least it wouldn’t be televised. As for common criminals, the authorities are usually notified by an alarm or the homeowner. I’m willing to bet the guy who’s looking for valuables isn’t going to stick around and try to ‘Macguyver’ a way to kill the homeowner or break into the bunker.

      The BBC recreated a street from WW2 together with quite simple bomb shelters and tested it against various sized bombs. Even the puniest shelters made from some corrugated iron and a bit of soil on top were actually very effective against bombs that exploded very close by. It was only when they replicated a V2 rocket that the serious damage was done. You have to be quite close to a bomb for it to be dangerous (and as I spent my 20s and 30s in London when the IRA were setting off bombs, I'm quite familiar with them). You can follow the BBC documentary here - ruclips.net/video/L0v2Uq8z7aI/видео.html What they learned from the V2 was that it wasn't the explosion that was the problem, but the falling earth after it sent up debris from a crater. A direct hit will wipe out most shelters, but near hits are survivable. Still, I think that Americans are rather crazy if they think they are being targeted away from population centers or military targets. Even the North Koreans won't waste a valuable bomb on 'Springville, Arkansas'.

      Remember it is built under a house. Hidden. If you found one intake, maybe they didn't show you it has a slit for multiple air intake/exhaust hidden elsewhere. Remember you are snooping after a major event, so who is to say he doesn't trap you snooping in the house. His hidden cameras see you and the friends snooping, releases knock out gas and cleans up the meat.

    What is the point if you build a house on it anyway just build a full concrete cellar and use it as a bunker. Half the prize 4 times the space.

    • @michaelthomas3105
      @michaelthomas3105 5 лет назад

      That's what I'd do, but you'd need a reinforced concrete roof at least 20 inches thick if there was no other heavy material above. It works out cheaper to build a strong cellar at the time a house is built, as the trades are mostly on site anyway, with diggers & other plant often around. Putting plenty of closely spaced rebar in the walls and doing a first rate job with dense well vibrated concrete helps to keep water out too , as well as being strong. Casting a wall kicker with a PVC water bar at the same time as the reinforced concrete raft slab for a strong cellar would be good to stop water ingress. The Swiss use a minimum of 10 inch thick reinforced concrete walls below ground for their shelters in almost every house, and it worked out at only a few thousand pounds per person doing it as part of a house build. Nowhere near the cost of a bunker craned in. Swiss ones all have proper 1 tonne 8 inch thick concrete blast doors & NBC filtered air.

      @@catlover1986 You are right. The thing about bunkers or fallout shelters, is that most people say they're a daft idea, but if there was a nuclear war or disaster, most people would want to be in one & suddenly change their minds. Talk is cheap in peace time. Although this one is close to the surface, its 1 foot concrete roof & about 18 inches of earth on top would give a protection factor of about 1000 against fallout. The direct radiation from nukes is more penetrating, so I'd have put 3 feet or more of earth above for a blast shelter.Our small MOD bunkers only had 3 feet above their reinforced concrete roofs. We had over 1500 of the smaller bunkers built that way all over the UK, & lots of larger headquarters bunkers.Most bunkers would have survived a nuclear attack, & protected those inside.

    I like the idea of using a shipping container as an underground dwelling, but, I'm not into the survival part. I would just appreciate the climate advantages to living under ground. My design would be underground living quarters on the side of a hill with a concrete silo for entertaining and scenery. Possible something like Andrew Camarata's shipping container castle tower.

      David Allen
      I wouldn't want to be around after a catastrophic event like that. I would rather just go and meet my maker. With that said, I have thought about shipping containers underground as well. There are a few videos on RUclips that show that the shipping containers collapse when they are buried underground. What a shame, you can have them in 40 ft. lengths and weld/bolt them together and have a nice setup for a good price.

    • @michaelthomas3105
      @michaelthomas3105 6 лет назад +1

      Don't bury a shipping container without extensive waterproofing & strengthening. They are only made of thin pressed steel & only super strong at the corners to "stack 'em high". The floors are not steel sheet, but are made of wooden sheets clipped to loads of steel C beams. Some people turn them upside down then weld steel plate onto the inverted C beams & reinforce the sides etc., but it's a lot of work. Shipping containers are designed to eventually sink for insurance purposes,so they don't float around forever until the collide with ships, hence the wood floors. The floors are strong enough to drive vehicles into them or put in heavy goods.

    This appeared in my RUclips feed for some reason. I see a lot of comments about the lack of food storage facilities. It seems most Americans (50%+) are more clever than that and have realised that the safest, most compact, most mobile and transportable method of food storage that can't even be stolen by the other post apocalyptic survivors is to store the food on their bodies in the form of copious quantities of fat. A 450LB Scottish man in the 60's did a medically supervised water fast (only consuming water, electrolytes and vitamin supplements) and fasted for 385 days straight. Yes. over a year without eating anything. A significant percentage of the American population probably have 6 months worth of calories stored on their Obese bodies. No Joke. While we don't Hibernate like a Bear, we, like them can store 6 months+ worth of calories in fat. They, to see them through 6 months of Winter, we, to see us through the Rapture, UN Takeoever, Zombie Apocalypse or what ever your personal insanity might be. LOL. The only thing these post apocalyptic survivors will have to worry about are Bears, Cannibals and Zombies!! The owners of any kind of Bunker with food storage on the other-hand, don't just have to worry about the Zombies, UN or Brown People, they even have to worry about their neighbour that didn't store 2 years worth of canned food, isn't obese, but who has a bigger gun or more ammo than they do. LOL.
    Yes, I''m actually making fun of preppers but its actually true about the obesity epidemic and 6 months+ of calorie storage. In an apocalyptic future, the obese shall inherit the Earth!! LOL.
