But even if people were “tougher” back in the day it doesn’t account for them being literally 6x stronger than modern day giants on steroids. He can beat a dude 7 feet tall (who no one else could) but not lift that stone? I don't get how can buy 1 and dismissed the other.
      I just think it's lazy - I was REALLLLLY looking forward to this one! You did a story about a guy who lifted a full grown bull and you DIDNT call BS on THAT. Bulls can weight from 1,100 - 2,200lbs (QUICK Google search) - I don't get how you can believe one an throw the other out.

    As an Indian.... Felt touched. Once upon a time, young boys in Indian villages and small cities used to sweat in Talimms and Aakhadas (wrestling schools) . Sadly things have changed. Now everyone wants to play cricket. Although wrestling is still very much popular. Gama had a brother. Gunga. He also was a great wrestler. Names Gama and Gunga are still pronounced with deep respect and reverence. Many... Many thanks for this video.

    I'm really glad you included the most badass feat of strength in Gamma's career -- safeguarding his neighbors. We can say a lot about his aesthetics, athletic ability, competitive achievements and overall strength. But he used his strength to protect the weak from the strong and the few from the many. His aesthetics were pretty good even when he was old, but the true beauty was in his heart. I think about him in my own training -- not crazy things done with rocks, but how he helped others. Jon Bluming is another example of a super-strong old school combat athlete who was motivated by the urge to protect others. In Bluming's case, he was Christian but lived in a Jewish area of the Netherlands. He watched helplessly as his friends were rounded up and sent to the camps. His motivation for training could be summed up as "Never Again." When I think I've reached failure in a set, I try to do two more -- one to honor each of those great men and to remind myself what really matters.

    You have missed the most essential component of Indian wrestler's superfood which is gud "jaggery." They eat it in kilos before a wrestling match and it supplies them with constant energy. Gamma Pehlwan would also have gud (jaggery). My grandfather, who would have turned 95 years old this year, used to tell me Gamma's stories and those were sensational and inspirational.

    • @nafissaleh9942

      Can you please elaborate a bit on what gud "jaggery" is? Sounds really interesting.

    • @Bodybuilder_Kingg
      @Bodybuilder_Kingg Год назад +18

      @@nafissaleh9942 Jaggery is one of the products obtained after the boiling and concentration (cooking) of sugar cane juice in non-centrifugal way. It's better than pure sugar and Indian brown sugar (shakar). Where plain sugar just contains glucose, gud "jaggery" is the combination of molasses and crystals which contains glucose, minerals like iron, potassium, sodium, phosphorus etc. and also has protein, fats and fibre in traces. It gives a constant supply of energy to the body and boosts the immune system. Wrestlers, weight lifters and even bodybuilders or any person who desires long term energy use it to their benefits. I too eat it every day or drink it in tea or put it in some cuisines instead of sugar. It's highly consumed during the winters as it keeps the body warm and also detoxes the liver. The best jaggery is golden to dark brown in colour in solid form (bars or discs). You may watch videos on RUclips on its preparation and health benefits.

    In today's time, the state of Haryana in India is known for churning out wrestling talent. The traditional wrestler's diet does include several liters of milk, butter and badam ragda (the almond paste you mentioned). Though 6 chickens seems too much, but for someone with an exceptionally high metabolism, might as well be true.
    Really surprises me that almost 100 years ago people were able to achieve such strong and proportioned bodies without modern science and supplements. Shows their grit.
