Well done! Thanks for taking the time to show how the spring retainer-clip functions. It has caused me much grief in the past, but now that I know how it works replacing bulb should be easy!
The most difficult part was getting the rubber gasket off - man, it had been on there a while...using a mirror really helped me see what I was working with (especially the clip) and the rest went smooth as butter. This here old lady changed the bulb herself with the help of your superb video. Many, many thanks! 🤗
Jim thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been putting this off, and just decided to pull up my big girl pants and do it today. Your video was immensely helpful, I got both sides done in less than 15 minutes! I wish you all the best, and will look for your videos for the next car issue I will inevitably have.
Thank you so so much for your directions, they were very detailed, and you even took the time to use a mirror to show what is not easily seen. It made replacing my bulb so easy. It took me less than five minutes to do!
I've had to replace my own bulbs twice now and this is the homie I go to. Thank you for being so informative! I'm not scared to do it myself anymore ☺️🖤
Thank you for this video! I’ve referenced it once prior a few years ago when needing to change the bulb, and just had it burn out again. Came right back to this video! Appreciate it
Thank you!!!!! Worked perfectly thanks to your detailed explanation and video. Nice to not have to pay a mechanic to do this simple maintenance item. 😁 Did it again on the other side today. 9.1.24 Easy peasy once you know how. Thanks so much, Jim!!!
I wanted to say THANK YOU! After watching your video, I was able to perform this on my own in under 5minutes! Which was even better considering it is 15 degrees outside! Thank you so much! I’m thinking 5months ago when I had the same issue. My driver side headlight went out. A previous video I watched stated I had to detach the whole light just to re-install the headlight! So I went to a local auto shop and they charged me $40 just for installation and I didn’t think anything of it. Well I think they touched the bulb because my bulb didn’t even last a whole year! So after watching your video, I realized that with small stuff with the CRV I might just be lucky and manage to do it all on my own. The CRV alone was new for me since I came from a Mitsubishi Lancer. I would love to see how you do the cabin filter!? I noticed I had some whistling in a vent on passenger side. Help is needed! Thanks in advance!!! :)
Great video and easy to follow i had the bulb changed in 5 minuets. ps.its great to listen to a video without the guy shouting his way through the instructions. Thanks from Jim in Glasgow Scotland take and stay safe.
Thank you. We actually had the challenge with this in a 05 CR-V EX. Your instruction are quite helpful. We will probably get one of the mirror thing, just because it seemed helpful to see what was going on inside.
Thank you kindly for instructing me on how to replace my bulb I have replaced my bulb on my my Ford and my Chevy this is the first time I've had a Honda I have never seen a metal pin that holds in the bulb quite interesting thank you kindly for helping again
That clip proves to me that the engineer that invented that must must have been the last in his class, and the approval of the clip gets the du#$@ s#_@ss award.
Thanks so much. The recommendation to slightly pinch the connection was very helpful as was the mirror to show the latch catch. Much appreciated by daughter and me.
Hope you are doing well Jim. Thanks so much for this50. I'll be doing this during a 40 degree warm day here in frigid Chicago. I'm trying LED's that are supposed to be plug & play and 50,000 hour life. My daughter's CRV eats the expensive halogen ones - last only a year or so.
Thank you for showing me something the guy at Autozone was getting wrong. Thank goodness he said he couldn’t do it for me. He was going to replace the wrong bulb. Had my high-beam unplugged before he gave up.
Thank you so much! I was able to change the bulb myself, which I purchased for only $6 at a local general retail store. The auto parts store wanted to sell me the same bulb, same make (Sylvania) for $20. Beware!
it took me several hours to be able to put the clip back into place..thanks for the mirror technique i had to reorient using the mirror on how the clip returns to its proper place!
@@jimthecarguy , I was a success!!! But I did accidently change the bright light on accident, so I just changed both! Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Thanks for the video. I wouldn't have known about the spring thing otherwise. Of course the rubber boot fell off into the depths of the compartment when I was changing the bulb. I'm going to drive around my parking lot and see if it falls out, else off to Amazon for replacement.
You made that look easy. That little clip a pure nightmare if you got large hands. Whatever engineer designed that system needs to go back to school. Jesus
Thanks I appreciate your video. Ive always had older chevey/GM's. I thought this would be more work but it's actually quicker than I thought. Thanks Jim!
This clip on these Honda's headlamps is one of the dumbest most tortuous designs I have ever dealt with for a stupid headlamp replacement. I now have a nasty half dollar bleeding bruise on the top of my wrist from having to contort my arm to get into the passenger side under one off the braces and force this clip back. This video was helpful and forced to get a mirror so I could see where the clip attached before I took a sledge hammer to the car..
Hi Jim, thank you for this informative video! You make it really simple and so that I can now do this myself instead of relying on my dad. I do have a question - which part are the tabs I would need to tighten since my bulb cannot plug in since it is loose? I'm having trouble figuring out how to get the bulb to fit in the socket. Thanks in advance!
I go through a lot of bulbs I try not to touch the globe but its hard since the small japanese access profile makes it tough. I get the H1 bulbs at Wallmart the brighter more expensive bulbs don't necessairy last longer they are just brighter and more dear. Take some gloves from the emergency eye cleaning unit at wallmart and wear them when replacing the bulb. The little Stanley white sub connector will get loose and this may cause a poor connection so you have to bend the little u prongs in to make a tighter fit.Use a nail or a needle nose pliers. Also I found that the bulb may short out the circuit and this will require you to change the fuse on number 15 for the driver side and the number 17 for the passenger side. These headlights have their own dedicated fuse for each side. The fuse box is on the drive side just above the light assemble near the left fender.
Hi, I just successfully changed the headlight bulb according to your instructions but I have one point to add. The connecter has 3 ways to plug in and after I changed the bulb it didn't work so I flipped the connecter over and it still didn't work. I thought there would only be 2 possible ways to plug it in. I then drove to my garage and my mechanic casually flipped the connecter again to the third possibility and the headlight came on. You may want to remind people of this. Keep the orientation of the plug in mind.
Thanks Jim, wish I had of seen this yesterday before my car went into for yearly registration, I had mine in upside down, they worked but lit badly and didn't pass, I had to to back and got charged again. bad mistake!!!
On my Ctd-i Diesel 2006, the dipped beam remains on with the high beam giving great lighting but the dipped beam bulbs only last 5 years or less as a result. The right hand dipped beam bulb (RHDrive vehicle) is a real pig to fit unless the nearby fluid reservoir is loosened first. Even so, scraped knuckles are inevitable. I now have all four bulbs and the two 5w side/position light bulbs replaced every 3rd annual service as the bulbs slowly get dimmer with use. I replaced the side lights ("position lights") with 1w LED. A major upgrade for less than $3. You CANNOT legally or practically replace the headlight bulbs with LEDs.
Perfect Explanation ... Need help i have Honda HR-V Year 2000.. When i remove the both side bulb i didn't notice the side that you mention bulb angle.. please help me to find out correct position to put back
After removing the rubber gasket, clean off the arrow area on it (indicates the topside of gasket) and put some bright colored nail polish on it (hot pink, yellow, light red etc) so it’s easy to see in future when you put it back on. Black imprint on black was a stupid idea since most people don’t even notice there is an arrow or what it means. An imprint of larger arrow or line with word TOP (and in yellow) would have been better design.
I just replaced the bulb in my wifes 06 CRV with the help of your video. But when I did it the rubber part was missing from both right and left headlights. Would you know a part # or where I could find replacements? Thanks your video was very helpful
5 years later and you are still helping people. Many thanks you helped a lot.
THANK YOU!!!! My three year old daughter and I changed the headlights today. Your video was so helpful! Really glad I know how to do this now
FYI the bulb is an H1 available in 4 varieties of color/brightness
You’re the best for this

I can't believe I did it all by myself with the help of this video. Many thanks for the detailed instructions !!!!!!!!

I’ve used this at least 4 times in the last few years - very much appreciated each and every time!
Great to hear!
So useful. Mine seems to burn out a bulb every two months or so, making this super useful
Thank you! I’m going to attempt this myself since my husband has been saying he’ll do it for a month and must have forgotten at this point. 😅
Thank you. We actually had the challenge with this in a 05 CR-V EX. Your instruction are quite helpful. We will probably get one of the mirror thing, just because it seemed helpful to see what was going on inside.
Thank you for starting and staying on point. You are a good teacher.
Thank you kindly for instructing me on how to replace my bulb I have replaced my bulb on my my Ford and my Chevy this is the first time I've had a Honda I have never seen a metal pin that holds in the bulb quite interesting thank you kindly for helping again
Nice job Jim. Next is headlight restoration, they’re looking a little cloudy.
Bug spray and a cloth.
JIm, thank you so much! You saved me by enabling me to do this on my own. My old car is essential for me and my dear old Mom.
Glad to help

across all of youtube your video was the BEST . thank you sir for the very well informing information .
I was leaning to the left several times in this video attempting to see that metal clip. Haha
Thank you, esp'ly for showing the clip in the mirror. Very helpful!
You made an absolute pig of a job with that bloody clip much easier. Thanks!
Glad it helped
Thanks Jim. Big help
The mirror for reinstallation is the best way to me. Thanks!
I just changed my first lightbulb and I'm 46. If it wasn't for that mirror I might have been stuck 😭 but thank you so much for this video 😊
Glad I could help!
Thank you so much. I look at your RUclips, I changed light bulb by my self, I am 59 female. Thank you again.
After watching this, I am going to change it myself. Thank you!
Glad I could help! Just remember not to touch the glass part of the bulb.

Excellent step by step process…thank you so much….so helpful
Jim, once again your great video and instructions helped once more!
Nice tip!: If you touch the glass, you'll leave your oil on it and it can burn out faster.
That's likely why this burnt out so soon.
Extremely helpful!! Thank you for posting your video.
Thanks I appreciate your video. Ive always had older chevey/GM's. I thought this would be more work but it's actually quicker than I thought. Thanks Jim!

What are the powered on top corner lights called, currently trying to find a new socket for one and I don't know the name of it.
Next project is to remove oxidation off the headlight plastic cover for clarity of light beam!

@BlitzkriegVR6: try RockAuto parts website. If no luck, try the parts dept at your local dealer. Good luck
@BlitzkriegVR6: another “budget” option Is to try your local junk yard.
