    I nearly bought a 3rd gen when I was looking to buy a CRV. After reading a lot of information and watching videos etc...
    My choice was the 2 Gen.
    I absolutely love my Honda. You can see how well built it is and for my use... Being daily, offroading, camping it's definitely a better option for me. I have done some mods to mine to make it a better off roader.
    Though I really like the shape of the 3gen.
    Great video.🇦🇺🚙

      My Mom had the 2nd Gen and 3rd. The 2nd seemed way too top heavy and unstable, esp in higher wind. The wheelbase also seemed too close to each other. I feel much more comfortable and safe in the 3rd. It's a 2011 with only 63,000 miles on it.

    I had a 1st gen and it ended up breaking down. Bought a 2nd gen and love it, was from a very caring owner, long and thorough maintenance record. I sold the 1st gen to the junkyard, but was sure to take the picnic table out before taking it to the junkyard, so now I have 2 tables, they're great.

    Как доведу ее до ума то такую же дизельную куплю для своей девушки.

    I got mine today, black 2.2 mk2 127k miles. My mum has a 1.6 4th gen which I really liked, but the 2.2 on this is enthusiast level fun. 4x4 is nuts and you can even hear it (the turbo) spool up and feel it kick in. You can also somewhat control your fuel economy with the helpful gauge which is pretty helpful in a car as fun as this. Comes with a fridge and a free picnic table, 10/10 would recommend

    Great video, and 2 beautiful CR-V's. I've been recommending them for years, to anyone who might ask, "What's a good used car to buy." So I've test driven a few of them with those friends who were looking to buy one. Finally, a few months ago, decided I should get one. Held out for a Gen2 EX model, same color as yours (Silver Moss Metallic) with a 5 speed manual transmission (very rare in the US) and sunroof. Just purchased one a month ago. I've heard the AWD system isn't that great because the front wheels have to lose traction and spin (loss of control) before the different speed between the front and rear wheels, will cause the rear differential to power the rear wheels. And then as soon as the rear wheels are spinning as fast as the fronts, the rear wheels are disconnected again. So the car comes in and out of control and loss of control, as it repeatedly comes in and out of AWD mode. Having previously owned a '95 Audi A6 Quattro Avant that was all wheel drive, all the time, the Honda system sounds pretty poorly designed. It'll be interesting to take the car skiing and see how it does.

    • @OutOfTheWay4x4
      @OutOfTheWay4x4  11 месяцев назад +4

      Thank you very much and I agree, the CRV is a really reliable car..It's not so bad with the AWD..it's also the case that when the front wheels can no longer turn and are locked up, the rear wheels are added to help. But for example Subaru's S-AWD doesn't compare. In the snow the CRV works very well..I have several videos of it in the snow on my channel.

    Is the diesel 2.2 on the 3rd generation as reliable as the 2.0 VTEC?

    • @OutOfTheWay4x4
      @OutOfTheWay4x4  Год назад +6

      From my point of view, the 2.2 ictdi 103kw is one of the best diesel engines ever made.It was later replaced by the 2.2 idtec 110kw engine in the 3 gen facelift. I would have preferred the ictdi 103kw. Without the DPF, that was not well sorted! But a diesel turbo engine will always be more complicated than an atmospheric petrol engine..With the ivtec you just change the oil and adjust the valve clearances and the engine is immortal. You have to realise what you want the car for..Diesel is not suitable for frequent short journeys and frequent starts. It's more suited for longer distances.

    • @RealWorldCarReviews
      @RealWorldCarReviews Год назад +2

      @@OutOfTheWay4x4 Thank you for such an in-depth answer. 😎 I think I will go for the VTEC because, as you said, it will be better for the mostly shorter journeys I do, and the N/A petrol is so much less complicated (and cheaper to maintain/look after), even if the fuel consumption is much higher then the diesel. I've had four CRVs. In the end, I chose the 2 gen i-VTEC. It does get a bit more gas mileage, but it is totally reliable! As long as it comes from a careful owner.. it also depends what the car will be used for..the diesel is more for longer routes..the 3 gen is more modern and more suitable for the road. The 2 gen has a bit of a retro interior but I like it. It also has a higher ground clearance, so it's more suited for light off-road. Its edgy design and the wheel on is absolutely awesome.

      Ahoj, CRV je určitě auto pro klidného řidiče. Já s ním zatáčky nevymetám..No ale určitě se v zatáčkách nenaklání, jízda je v něm pohodlná..I když je třeba brát v úvahu vyšší světlou výšku auta. Celkově je podvozek o něco tvrdší, než třeba u 3 gen..Ale to je fajn v terénu, protože máš lepší odezvu po čem jedeš. Zadní část sedadel jde bohužel vyjmout jen klasickým způsobem. Je přišroubovaná, žádné rychloupínáky atd..Co se týče rzi, tak klasika jako u všech Japonců..Je třeba před koupí zkontrolovat podvozek..Trochu na to trpí, ale žádná tragédie. Možno nechat preventivně ošetřit spolu s dutinami a místy schovanými pod plasty. Měl jsem kus z Itálie a ta měla podvozek jako nový. Jinak CRV nijak zvlášť nerezne. A teď k poruchovosti: Měl jsem již 4 CRV (1x 3gen diesel a 3x 2 gen benzín) Jediné, co jsem řešil byl DPF filtr u té naftové..Jinak s CRV pokud to má svůj servis, tak člověk skoro nic neřeší..A když už, tak vždy dávat originální díly.. Hlavně originální Honda olej do diferenciálu..

      Hi, the gen 2 and gen 3 both have exactly the same all wheel drive (RT AWD). The gen 2 has the better ground clearance. I felt better off-road in the gen 2. But it must be said that the CR-V is only suitable for lighter terrain. It has no differential lock, no reduction gearbox and no solid axles either.

      @@OutOfTheWay4x4 thankyou, response understand. At this stage a Subaru or even a VW Tiguan looks like a stronger offroader. I already have a solid axled 4x4 but some ability would be good.

    • @OutOfTheWay4x4
      @OutOfTheWay4x4  5 месяцев назад +1

      @mechtechau Yes, the VW 4motion has permanent all-wheel drive and the Subaru has Symmetrical AWD, which is unmatched in the family SUV category.The Subaru Forester also has a reduction gearbox (manual only). But on the other hand, these are not off-road vehicles..and for regular lighter terrain, the CRV is fine too. Another thing is that in terms of reliability, Honda CR-V gen 2 and 3 has no competition.

      Hola amigo, saludos para ti desde la República Checa, debo afirmar que el Honda CR-V es una buena elección... ya he tenido 4 y nunca he tenido que lidiar con ninguna avería grave. En cuanto a la transmisión automática del CR-V, es muy fiable. Eso sí, no te olvides de cambiar a tiempo los líquidos de funcionamiento y los filtros. Utiliza siempre aceite original Honda en el diferencial trasero, de lo contrario no funcionará correctamente. ¡Te deseo mucha suerte y que tu Honda CR-V se haga realidad pronto!

      Ahoj, motor 2.2 ictdi je výborný..Jen se vyhni verzi s DPF (dovoz z Německa, CZ byly bez DPF..) To je tam špatně řešeno. Občas trochu píská turbo, ale 2 roky mi jen pískalo a vše ok. Ten motor sám o sobě je jeden z nejlepších dieselů vůbec. Taky svezení je o dost živější než benzín.

      As far as I know, the 2nd and 3rd generations had identical engines... The petrol ivtec 2.0 and 2.4 and the diesel 2.2 ictdi... Only the facelift version of the 3rd generation had a different diesel engine, the 2.2 idtec... The only design flaw I can think of with the 3rd gen 2.2 ictdi is that on the DPF models, the filter was placed far away from the engine and there was no perfect filter regeneration.
