Whenever I start to get really down, during a bad case of 'writers block', I'll just listen to Fennesz for days. More often than not, his work is able to get me back into the studio, even if i'm just sound designing, or exploring new tools, it all helps to get me working again.
Along with Bach, Fennesz make up the two most important persons in my 'music/musician' side of life.

A masterclass from the master... The start of the piece sounds like an object in max called stutter~ which is a granular looper/sampler, then his guitar tone is just pure genius, around the 18min mark is pure excellence! I think he once used a POD pedal before his mixer or soundcard... I know he uses Lloop which is a kind of standalone that runs pre-programmed Max/MSP blocks/patches, I think MSP now has beep which is I suppose is very similar. A lot of his sound is focused around granular synthesis and there are now lots max4live devices that achieve this process... If you are interested in granular synthesis there is a module in Audiomulch's software called DLgranulator which is fantastic. I hope this helps : ) Thanks for the upload.

How do you think he integrates physical effects pedal? Couldn't figure out maybe, he runs ppooll output in them and then to the mix

I've found these on guitarmoderne: "I experiment and am always changing things in the studio, but when I play live or begin recording I use the same signal path. I start with a Fender guitar-a Stratocaster or a Jazzmaster, into a Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb pedal, which is a cheap preamp. It goes into a Boss PS-3 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay pedal. From there the signal goes into my custom distortion box, and then directly into the laptop through an Apogee Duet (in the studio I use the Apogee Ensemble). On the laptop I have the Max/MSP patch, which is like a modeler/sampler/synthesizer thing. From the laptop, I go into a Mackie mixer, which sends a mono signal to an amp and a stereo signal to the house." Pretty close!

Processing guitar with software is so mysterious to me. I’d love to learn how to do this. I have a zoom H6. I’m not sure if this type of interface is appropriate for guitar...
