I got into skincare pretty heavily at the start of the pandemic, as did a lot of people. Double cleansing is one of my favorite things. I finally added tretinoin to my routine about 3 months ago. At 54, my skin looks phenomenal and the best it ever has in my lifetime. Just a few weeks ago, I met a woman a couple years older than me who asked how old I was how old I am. When I told her she was stunned. She thought I was a decade younger. I'll take it! Keep up the amazing videos, I've learned so much from the two of you over the years. ❤
@jillclement morning: brief cleanse, vitamin c, Sunday Riley lactic acid, and moisturizer/sunscreen. Evening: double cleanse, copper peptides, wait about 15 minutes, then tretinoin and heavier moisturizer. I really only have one item that I can't live without, and that's Sunday Riley lactic acid. It really smoothed out the bumps in my skin. I use it daily without any irritation. I use a chemical exfoliant mask about once a week in the evening and skip the tretinoin that night.
I started double cleansing with a Korean oil cleanser followed by a gentle cleanser. It was such a game changer for me. It repaired my skin barrier because I didn’t have to scrub the heck out of my face anymore. Thank you for all the wonderful videos
Same for me! I have psoriasis, rosacea and periorificial dermatitis that flare up with stress or cold weather and double cleansing helped my skin barrier so much.
Great video! Thank you for posting this information. I’ve had a lot of sun cancer and live in So. California so I need to use sunscreen everyday without fail. When I first started applying sunscreen each day, I was not double cleansing and was breaking out in my late 40’s. I thought that it was the brand of sunscreen that I was using until my dermatologist told me that I needed to double cleanse! No more break outs! And, my skin looks so much better 👍🏼
Double-cleansing is absolutely a must for me and the proof is written on my white towels! On the rare occasions that I've skipped my double cleanse there is always residual makeup on my towel. Love DHC oil or Banila Clean it Zero and giving myself a mini facial massage in the process.
I started using an oil cleanser recently and immediately fell in love with it! I have comedonal acne and oily skin, so I was always scared to use any oil on my face, even though it made sense that only an oil could dissolve the oil in my pores. I decided to give it a try and it has really helped remove sunscreen, makeup, and oil buildup in my pores. It rinses away effortlessly with water and doesn’t leave any greasy residue, so I’ve found that I don’t necessarily need to do a second cleanse afterwards. I’ve been using it a couple times a week and can’t imagine being without it now. So all that to say: if you have oily skin and/or comedonal acne, it might be worth giving an oil cleanser a try. I use plain sunflower oil as it breaks up all my makeup, and doesn't sting my eyes. Then I use a gentle foaming cleanser and that seems to do the job🤷♀️
In a pinch if I struggled to get off mascara, I've definitely used a moisturizer and it absolutely worked. Wouldn't use anything pricey, but a basic moisturizer does the trick.

They didn't really have a lot of expensive moisturizers back then, and I was unaware of any makeup removers.

Double cleansing helped drastically with my skin flaking from Tretinoin. I use softymo speedy oil cleanser. I cleanse with this TWICE. My skin feels clean but also my peeling has stopped completely. To me this is a huge win. I SWEAR by tretinoin, but I hate that sometimes I peel on my chin and nose.
I double cleanse with a cleansing oil and then a foaming facial cleanser. Followed by an essence, serum, moisturizer and a sunscreen. I'm 55 and have no wrinkles and can go makeup free all day, every day.
I used to double cleanse and had little bumps on my forehead and chin. My derm recommended I stop so I did and all my bumps have gone away. With that be said, I also don’t use makeup at all so I imagine it’s different for people that need to get makeup off! 😊
of you're using spf you really should be using a balm of some kind to take it off. water cleansers don't fully remove them. but if you don't wear spf it doesn't matter
Idk if the doctors mentioned this, but some oils with an abundance of/combination of certain fatty acids can feed a fungus called malassezia, which in normal amounts is fine and found on the body naturally, but off balance can cause fungal acne (looks like small bumps everywhere). I don’t have fungal acne but I do get seborrheic dermatitis sometimes which is also caused by malassezia so I have to be careful which oils I use to double cleanse. Squalane is good for this since it isn’t an oil but a hydrocarbon
I’ve loved the Hada Labo cleansing oil for double cleansing since hearing about it from another derm! It’s very sensitive-skin friendly, no fragrance, and affordable :)
The Ordinary Squalene Cleansing Balm then QV Face Gentle Cleanser (Australian Pharmacy brand and a favourite with dermatologists here), mature dry sensitive reactive skin here, I use tinted mineral sunscreen every single day, mascara, tinted brow gel and lip tint. My dermatologist recommended these cleansers when I had destroyed my skin barrier, I love the process of a short massage with the cleansing balm, all the sebaceous filaments on my nose disappeared within weeks of starting this cleansing routine about 3 years ago.
@@jordillo777 I will keep that in mind. I do have issues with cleansing balms. I have less problems with cleansing oils. The balms are so thick. I’ve even noticed with makeup that anything too creamy (cream bronzer & cream blush) causes issues.
I know it might not be popular but I have used Ponds cold cream for years. I have dry skin and it helps keep my skin moist. I also use Retin a. I have very few wrinkles and a nice texture to my skin. I have started using a foaming cleanser in the morning.
My skin is oily and I get a lot of black dots in my nose that never go away, I follow a good skin care routine with cleansing, exfoliation etc but my skin always looked dirty. Oil cleanser really helps me to deep cleanse my skin, I never looked my skin so clear before and I feel I’m seeing better results with all my skincare products.
@@richellebenton8029 I’m actually surprised nobody mentioned the Clinique cleansing balm because like I said it is the OG of all cleansing balms. I had to put it out there lol And yes there is a reason to why the Clinique cleansing balm has been around for so long!
I have oily but sensitive skin and double cleansing ruined my skin barrier. Since the oil cleanser was great at preventing congested pores, I now only use a gentle Korean oil cleanser and so far it's been working really well. It's unusual, but I haven't found anything online that says it's a bad idea, so I'm going with it for now.
@@iriname micellar water always irritated my skin, even the Bioderma Sensibio. Oil cleansers seem gentler to me, although not all of them. My favs are Dear Klairs Gentle Black Fresh Cleansing Oil and iUnik Calendula Complete Cleansing Oil. Both are very simple formulas and made from mostly plant oils.
Same happened to me. I have oily sensitive skin. Cleaning oil always irritated my skin. So im sticking to my bioderma micellar water as my first cleanser thn i switch between salicylic acid face wash mild gel wash
For smooth glowing skin: 1 - Staying hydrated is key. It helps. Try to consume at least 2 liters water every day. 2 - Using riceeberry face wash from litleextra daily is part of my routine. Although I occasionally skip this step due to impatience. While it works, daily application is crucial for results. 3 - I avoid any kind of soap etc. 4 - I stay away from junk food. 5 - I do 30 minutes of exercise everyday. Together, all these steps helped me to get good glowing skin without any acne, dark spots and pimples.
I used to have clear skin. However, lately, I began experiencing acne breakouts. I didn't know that the harsh face wash I used was actually drying up my skin. Once I switched it to this gentle cleanser and used a moisturising cream with it, all my breakouts stopped. Thanks Litttleextra ricebeerry.
The key is to do all of these consistently for 6 months at least and NEVER stopping once u get the results. I got the perfect glass skin following these things and so much more (ie no alcohol, sunscreen, raw veggie smoothies every morning, 7 hours of sleep) until I slowly started eating those junk food again and all of it is gone now 😂I still do every single thing here and don't even eat a lot of junk food - just fried food and sweet treats 3-4x a week. Getting that perfect skin is really tough work, unless you're blessed with good genes.
Could you please talk about red, dry sensitive skin and eczema please? 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Struggling with it and difficult to find good info 😩 Love your videos as always, I only double cleanse if I'm wearing makeup, otherwise my skin would die!
I love double cleansing in the evening! I can feel the difference instantly once I wash it off & am using my water based cleanser! Happy thankful skin ❤ and I'm glad u approve it too
Have double cleansed for years. It's the only way to be sure you're getting makeup and pollution off. If you have to budget, coconut oil or grapeseed oil from the grocery store work well. I also have used hair conditioner to cleanse and remove makeup for 20 yrs. I even use hair conditioner(V05) in place of bodywash in coldest darkest driest winter. Yes, it cleans sweat and generic ick but it doesn't strip the skin to do it so you can shower and not be itchy afterwards.
I LOOOOOVE double-cleansing!! It’s been one of the biggest game-changers for me! I do use tinted sunscreen and my skin feels so much cleaner, radiant, and smoother (and my pores look virtually invisible) after double-cleansing. I’m extremely happy that I added this into my nightly skincare routine. I use DRMTLGY Pre-Cleansing oil and it’s been fantastic for me.
thank you for this epi as an esthetician, i double cleanse at night when ive worn makeup and sunscreen during the day and it helps. My derm disagrees but i still do it but only occasionally
I’m a big fan of double cleansing! I’ve been doing it for decades-before there was a name for it and before there were so many more products to choose from. I used Pond’s back in the day
Yes! I used ponds too then Cera Ve. I needed to rinse a lot. But I’ve been doing this since the 80s! Now I use Clinique take the day off then Vanicream gentle facial wash.
50 y/o with still pretty oily skin & often a breakout or two at any given time. I wear full makeup to even skin tone as well as help w/ oily appearance. Being oily, a setting spray is a must to get through the entire workday. I have found that the Dermalogica PreCleanse works very well, though its liquid consistency often means I need to take my contacts out first. For the last couple of months, I've been using Clinique Take the Day Off balm - works well & doesn't require contact removal. It's *slightly* less effective than the Dermalogica, but 1. goes on sale more often and 2. avoids the hassle with my contacts. I follow either up with my normal cleanser. I exfoliate with Dermalogica microfoliant (usually evening unless I'm going makeup-less on the weekends) or Clinique exfoliating lotion/toner. Followed up by moisturizing products depending on makeup wearing & skin condition (level of break outs, or dryness). SPF if I'm heading out & will be in the sun more than it takes me to walk from my home to car to office building.
Ponds cold cream removes my makeup and makes my skin so soft and moisturized. I then follow up with Cetaphil foaming cleanser, serum and retinol cream. My skin looks smooth and clear at 51.
I tried Ponds cold cream because I watched my grandmother use it she followed it by washing with Dove soap. She had beautiful skin! But I have to use an oil cleanser.
Conditioner!!!! This will be soooo handy for removing water resistant body sunscreen in the summer 😮 as I don’t like using oil based body wash in an already slippery bathtub. I used to soak a towel with micellar water and wipe my arms and legs but that’s not sustainable. I also find oil cleansers work better than micellar water as step 1 cleansing THANKS for the tip
I don't love double cleansing, but I do enjoy cleansing oils, like Paula's Choice ,that emulsify. Lately I've been using CeraVe Foaming Oil Cleanser which removes makeup well but requires immediate application of moisturizer because it removes all oils from any skin.I'll probably stick with this because it's good and easy.
I want to encourage anyone watching who struggles with seborrheic dermatitis and fungal acne to be very careful as to the types of cleansers they use If you are looking to double cleanse look into oil cleansers that are pure squalane or mct oil, most other oils feed the yeast A specific brand that has worked for me is malezia, it was made by someone who struggles with seb derm themselves so he was very particular about the types on ingredients in his products
I had to stop double cleansing, it was breaking me out so bad, just too harsh for my skin, so now I only single cleanse. If I'm wearing chemical SPF, a water cleanser, and if its a mineral SPF, then an oil cleanser.
What about for those of us with very dry sensitive skin who wear heavy petrolatum based moisturizers and/or ointments and non-water-resistant sunscreen everyday and no make up?
Make video about how to treat dry hair.Should you shampoo more or less with dry hair? Also tell what does dry scalp mean. Do you need to oil it more or less?
I've been double cleansing since way before it was a thing. When I use makeup, I remove it with an oil-based cleanser otherwise it doesn't really come off, but my skin is already oily and I always need another detergent afterwards to make me feel clean. I can't imagine how my skin would look like if I didn't, but I bet it would be way worse than now!
Personally, I double cleansed when I heard about it. Doing that left little bumps on my skin. Then I happened to listen to Dr Sam Bunting. She said she noticed that in her patients who double cleansed. She said wash with a cleanser suited for your skin type and rinse 10 times. I did and the bumps went away. There are sometimes I do use a face cream I stopped using to get the sunscreen off before cleansing.
I have little bumps, too. I try to keep my makeup brushes clean and never again use contouring pencils. I’m starting to suspect my cream blush. I’m using a liquid shaving bump water made with salicylic acid and also psoriasis cream which is stronger. I’m going to get a professional facial with extractions soon.
Double cleansing has changed my skin, less blackheads, no acne. My skin feels so soft after double cleansing. I’ve been loving “I’m from fig” balm then the tatcha rice wash . Rub rub rub , at least 1 min each. Then layer those yummy k toners
2x cleansing helped with my (bad) SFs and brightened, clarified and smoothed my face. It made quite a difference. I used Glow Recipe's balm. I have oily-combo skin.
I love double cleansing! it’s game changer for me, now I rarely get acne. I use cleanser cream, wipe it with cotton pads, then micellar water, finally face wash.
In Japan and Korea there's another category of "first step" cleansers which are cleansing creams/lotions. I find them less stripping than cleansing balms/oils because they are kind of somewhere in between straight-up lipophilic and straight-up hydrophilic.
Having tried both, I find double cleansing far too harsh and drying; leading to more blemishes. I only use NON water resistant sunscreen and a single cleanse works better for me and only in the evening. It took me a year to realize I was cleansing too much.
I used to double cleanse, but I feel I don’t need to do it anymore. I like to use a very gentle cleanser like Vanicream or La roche Posay. Afterwards, I use a hydrating and alcohol free toner over my face and neck to remove any leftover dirt and residue with a cotton ball. I follow up with a very hydrating Korean toner that has ceramides, hyaluronic acid and other emollient ingredients. I just try to keep it simple.

I also use Hada labo Gokujyun Cleansing Oil 🤗🤗
The Ordinary Squalene Cleansing Balm then QV Face Gentle Cleanser (Australian Pharmacy brand and a favourite with dermatologists here), mature dry sensitive reactive skin here, I use tinted mineral sunscreen every single day, mascara, tinted brow gel and lip tint. My dermatologist recommended these cleansers when I had destroyed my skin barrier, I love the process of a short massage with the cleansing balm, all the sebaceous filaments on my nose disappeared within weeks of starting this cleansing routine about 3 years ago.
Thanks for the conditioner hack. When traveling, I don’t always want to pack my cleansing oil.
Careful with putting hair conditioner on your face if you're acne prone, it can really clog your pores.
@@jordillo777 I will keep that in mind. I do have issues with cleansing balms. I have less problems with cleansing oils. The balms are so thick. I’ve even noticed with makeup that anything too creamy (cream bronzer & cream blush) causes issues.
Can you please do a video on Korean skin care and whether or not it’s superior, worse, or about the same as American skin care?
I know it might not be popular but I have used Ponds cold cream for years. I have dry skin and it helps keep my skin moist. I also use Retin a. I have very few wrinkles and a nice texture to my skin. I have started using a foaming cleanser in the morning.
My skin is oily and I get a lot of black dots in my nose that never go away, I follow a good skin care routine with cleansing, exfoliation etc but my skin always looked dirty. Oil cleanser really helps me to deep cleanse my skin, I never looked my skin so clear before and I feel I’m seeing better results with all my skincare products.
I have the same problem, which brand do you recommend me to start with ??
As a person with mature skin two gentle cleanses work well for me. Not over drying, stripping. hydrated and clean instead of

For years and years, I love my OG Clinique cleansing balm take the day off. It is the best.
Reading the comments to see if something suggested Clinique cleansing balm. It really is the best and has been around a long time! No scent too 😊
@@richellebenton8029 I’m actually surprised nobody mentioned the Clinique cleansing balm because like I said it is the OG of all cleansing balms. I had to put it out there lol And yes there is a reason to why the Clinique cleansing balm has been around for so long!
it isnt cruelty free though :(( you could try the boj cleansing oil or balm!! it is amazinggg. @@richellebenton8029
I like the Elf cleansing balm. I've tried others and always go back to the Elf.
I try double cleansing such as with oil...and it won't work for me....I prefer cleansers with salicylic acid... that it suits me ..
Same, I feel like my rosacea gets worse. Now using micellar water
@@jordillo777agreed about bioderma, now I’m using CeraVe
Same happened to me. I have oily sensitive skin. Cleaning oil always irritated my skin. So im sticking to my bioderma micellar water as my first cleanser thn i switch between salicylic acid face wash mild gel wash
For smooth glowing skin:
1 - Staying hydrated is key.

Me too! Lashes turned my skin a flakey, dry mess 😫
Love you guys. Proper knowledge. With witty humour too
Body Shop Chamomile Cleansing Balm is the best i used so far, its unbeatable at getting off my waterproof mascara.
I love double cleansing in the evening! I can feel the difference instantly once I wash it off & am using my water based cleanser! Happy thankful skin ❤ and I'm glad u approve it too
I love the Farmacy cleansing balm, it feels amazing and takes off my sunscreen easily.

I used Pond’s back in the day
I thought I invented it 20 years ago. But maybe it was really you! 🤣
Yes! I used ponds too then Cera Ve. I needed to rinse a lot. But I’ve been doing this since the 80s! Now I use Clinique take the day off then Vanicream gentle facial wash.

Love these videos! Would love to see one on products for rosacea.
Thank you both!!! I just love learning from you two! I tell all my friends about your advice!❤
Those biceps are coming through boys!

As always, very educational video! Thank you! Please could you do a video on probiotics in skincare? They seem to be very popular now.
The versed regular cleansing balm is so good. I bought it bc i was in a pinch and that's all my drugstore had and I've not looked back.
I’ve been double cleansing with organic sunflower oil, the one you can cook with for years. I buy it from target, and it’s always my go to!
Good ole Albolene is my personal favorite
DHC is my go-to oil cleanser.
If you’re exploring Korean skincare, Ariul’s micellar water is great!
I want to encourage anyone watching who struggles with seborrheic dermatitis and fungal acne to be very careful as to the types of cleansers they use
If you are looking to double cleanse look into oil cleansers that are pure squalane or mct oil, most other oils feed the yeast
A specific brand that has worked for me is malezia, it was made by someone who struggles with seb derm themselves so he was very particular about the types on ingredients in his products
Can you do a video on natural trends like flax seed gel on face- aloe etc… I want to know the science behind these natural remedies
We just covered flaxseed on the next episode of the podcast coming soon
I had to stop double cleansing, it was breaking me out so bad, just too harsh for my skin, so now I only single cleanse. If I'm wearing chemical SPF, a water cleanser, and if its a mineral SPF, then an oil cleanser.
What about for those of us with very dry sensitive skin who wear heavy petrolatum based moisturizers and/or ointments and non-water-resistant sunscreen everyday and no make up?
I’d love a video on the under eye masks. Which ones are the best and the ingredients we should be looking for for the best results
inky list oat cleansing balm is amazing!!!
Helpful! I used to rinse as many times as my age, but now I stop at 20, lol.
Same here!!
god if i rinsed 10 times i'd get an eczema flare 🙃
Double cleansing has changed my skin, less blackheads, no acne. My skin feels so soft after double cleansing. I’ve been loving “I’m from fig” balm then the tatcha rice wash . Rub rub rub , at least 1 min each. Then layer those yummy k toners
2x cleansing helped with my (bad) SFs and brightened, clarified and smoothed my face. It made quite a difference. I used Glow Recipe's balm. I have oily-combo skin.
Great video. But I was wondering if I can just use a cleansing oil or balm and that’s all? I use sunscreen way more than makeup.
I love double cleansing! it’s game changer for me, now I rarely get acne. I use cleanser cream, wipe it with cotton pads, then micellar water, finally face wash.
So that's triple cleansing then, 3 different cleansers.
Elemis cleansing balm is the best for double cleanse and CeraVe Cleansing Oil (really more of a gel) for one and done.
In Japan and Korea there's another category of "first step" cleansers which are cleansing creams/lotions. I find them less stripping than cleansing balms/oils because they are kind of somewhere in between straight-up lipophilic and straight-up hydrophilic.
late to the game ‘darn tooting’ 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Can you guys please make a video of nontoxic skincare routine for oily skin ?
Graaaacias! La verdad me ayudaron y me aclararon varias dudas con este video!! Y como bien dijeron “es mejor estar aquí y no en tik tok jajajaja “
Having tried both, I find double cleansing far too harsh and drying; leading to more blemishes. I only use NON water resistant sunscreen and a single cleanse works better for me and only in the evening. It took me a year to realize I was cleansing too much.
I agree. I do it when I use makeup but to do it everyday I find it harms my skin rather than improves it.
Which sunscreen do you use?
I used to double cleanse, but I feel I don’t need to do it anymore. I like to use a very gentle cleanser like Vanicream or La roche Posay. Afterwards, I use a hydrating and alcohol free toner over my face and neck to remove any leftover dirt and residue with a cotton ball. I follow up with a very hydrating Korean toner that has ceramides, hyaluronic acid and other emollient ingredients. I just try to keep it simple.
I LOVE Farmacy Green Clean, a bit disappointed in the Dermatlgy Oil Cleanser.
I love cleansing balms and tried many good ones, but the elf one is cheap and does the job!
Geek and gorgeous mighty melt is the one for me, gragrance free and oil free, it uses fatty alcohols and emollient esters in place of oil
