  • In this video I have a look at a customers 2016 Chevy 2500HD Denali with the big 6.6 that has a customer complaint of no horn. I think they built the truck around the horn 🙄 Let's have a look.

I remember with the old glass fuses, we would screw with newbies by taping 1 end with transparent tape and sticking it back in the fuse terminal block. The newbie would look at the glass and see it was not blown and move right by it in troubleshooting. Same principle. Had to make sure the coffee mug didn't leave my sight for a few days afterwards once they found out for fear of them adding a special ingredient to it

As a live sound engineer, that DeoxIt is like gold. We get scratchy pots(potentiometers) all the time, especially here in the muggy south where average humidity is 80%, and that stuff has saved me more times than I can count. I once was asked to bring in a loaner Midas mixer, while the client got theirs repaired. Knowing that’s it’s otherwise the finest gear available, I figured it was just dirty. Living in a bar/restaurant, especially back when smoking was legit, wreaks havoc on electronics. After pulling every knob off the mixer I emptied an entire can of DeoxIT into every place with a moving electrical part, and ran signal through it for 24+ hours. Wiped it down, put the knobs and fader handles back on, she was 100%, previously looking at a $1000+ repair or a $5000 replacement. Less than $10 and some time, and Midas was reborn! Gold I tell ya, gold!

Back in my work training at the repair shop of a local hospital, we had access to used (and autoclaved) "root canal files" or whatever those might be called, from the dentistry department. Those were handy for rubbing corrosion and debris out of small connectors as well as other small crevices. A less abrasive replacement might be a plastic bristled toothpick for cleaning the small pockets between the gum and two adjacent teeth.

A long time ago a 15 year old had just bought an old Chevy, and the horn didn't work. Through my excelent detective/diagnostic skills I located both horns in plain sight on the front side of the radiator support, and determined that the connector had fallen off the tang. When I plugged it back in I found out why it had been unplugged, and gouged my scalp on the hood release...turns out the spring behind the horn button had failed, so the button was making continuous contact.

    Always nice to see Mrs.O.
Now every 'A' hole will be pulling the "prank" they didn't know about until you just told them about it. Way to go Eric. 🤨
Another well engineered car from GM. Who else would put a component where you can't reach it?
Most mechanics would bump it and say "there, now it works;" and button everything up. That extra step is what makes you #1. 👍

So glad to see that after 100 years of the old type connections failing, something so high- tech and bulletproof is now being used! Plus, it was good to see you get a break from the Chivrolays!

so back in the 90s when i worked for GM we would look in the glove box or trunk of vehicles for the list of RPO's from time to time, I ran across a code on a Chevrolet truck(don't remember the code) but the code translated into something on the lines of "Chevrolet conversion", in other words it was a GMC to Chevrolet conversion. i recognize they are the same vehicles with different badges... just wanted to share, take it however you like i have no skin in this game

I have a 14 Silvery-rado. The A/C was marginal. Visual inspection, I found a bird nest in front of the condenser. To remove the grill, one has to do what you did plus remove a trim piece. Have to remove both inner fenders to access bolts for trim. I opted to use a pressure washer instead.

Straight forward and simple electrical troubleshooting. A great video for the beginner. Working in tight spaces without excessive disassembly that can damage equipment and waste time. Treatment of the problem with the proper chemicals so that it (the problem) will not return any time soon. Proper reassembly to include the dreaded red lock tab. A good example of how it's done.
