I know a guy that would try and pay others to tamper with the odometer. Yup, he got busted. I knew he was crooked when he stole two vintage snowmobiles out of someone's back yard, then bragged to me about it. 10 years later, he got busted tampering with odometers and fudging with warning lights on cars he bought at auction then tried to sell.
I work as mechanic at an auction lot. We have a saying in the shop "these cars are here for a reason". In reality, it's not a bad gig. Assess and repair as necessary, and get em through the lanes. Definitely see some odd problems, but once the gavel falls, those cars go away forever. Corporate mandates we don't service what we sell. People really need to do their homework before they purchase a vehicle from an auction. More often than not, a "good deal", isn't..

I have been working with electronics over 40 years and have respect for your electronics troubleshooting skills. Here is a tip... When using Caig products such as Deoxit D5, LEAVE THE STUFF ON THE CONTACTS!! The stuff must remain on the metal surfaces to keep working. The "D5" means it only has 5% of the magic ingredient so it is not expected to work immedeatly. After treatment, I often REplug the connector several times to help the Deoxit to work into the metal surfaces. It is interesting to note that the military MANDATES that Caig products be on EVERY contact (planes, ships...etc) because it prevents contact problems nearly forever.

Marie totally called the stuck plunger on the purge solenoid. I guessed that was what it was when there was an evap vacuum leak with no circuit fault (indicating either broken hose or plunger likely stuck open) but she's way beyond where I was at her age. She'll do great, especially with Mr. O giving her some tips and tricks along the way.
I surprised myself that I came up with the conclusion about the evaporator solenoid before the definitive answer was proposed. This was a really good teaching session today Eric. I would not have picked up on the poor ground under load after the trouble light indicated ground. I will file that one away to test under a real load...
It was the teachers like you that always stuck in my mind for the little snippets and facts they taught - even 40+ years later I can still remember some of them. You under estimate the impact that you're making on Marie - I hope that she can continue to share the teachings that you have shown and given her with the next generation much as you have with her. A little bit of humor and light can make learning much, much easier for everyone - huge kudos to you, Eric!
This is one of the best examples of a voltage drop test ever, Because I have seen way too many techs get stuck with a problem like that. It's when the parts changers go crazy 🤡
Sadly, I have seen a plastic bolt replaced with a metal one. A DIY stereo "repairer". Replacing the bolt with the proper one allowed the circuit to complete and made me $$$. It was a tough one to find the short on too.
Commenting on an old video, but damn! You sure just dumbed down some electric stuff that I was having problems with electrical!!! Made it crystal clear and understandable. Thank you Eric!
Thanks to Miss Marie......we got this Chevy fixed successfully. Eric O., take a seat in the back of the class ! lol. Much luck to M. Marie's future in automotive repairs. I think she will do fine !
Marie has "the knack" She gets excited to know the answer!!! This is something that can't be taught. Enthusiasm for the love of the job!!!! Great work there Mr. O!! Another newbie off to school with burnin desire!!
Thanks for taking time to explain how and why it does not work. I am glad to see you teach her before she is off to school. School will give you basic knowledge, but hands on is the best teacher. Sometimes something will do something that it shouldn't be able to do, yet it is for what ever reason. Hands on is where you learn that. I worked in maintenance for years and saw things that you just can't figure out the how. I would fix the problem but, It always bothered me not knowing the how or why of a problem. Thank you Eric.
Auction cars are a hit or a miss. You hit yourself in the head for buying it or you miss the money you spent on it. Marie will do great in school, has a great mentor.
You do good honest work. That’s hard to find now days. I’ve used a lot of your videos to keep my truck going. Like remove broken exhaust manifold bolts. Worked like a charm. Thank you 🙏
My mom has a 2002 Impala...her security kept acting up so she took it in to the dealer...they said it was the ignition switch and it would cost over $800 to fix it. She brought it home and called me...I checked it out & confirmed the diagnosis...but told her to wait a few days so I could check some things. I looked around on eBay and found a replacement switch for under 35 bucks (not the cheapest but well made)...put it in myself...she made me dinner...YAY! Thanks to you I got fed an awesome meal! :)
Once got a Silverado from a body shop. No crank no comm with anything... later found out when lifting it up I saw the faint words that had been cleaned off the window “lightning strike”. After replacing EVERY module in the truck and a few other parts it ran like a champ. 👍

Correct, it's Guns N' Roses (beginning of Civil War - Use Your Illusion II)
It is originally from the classic movie "Cool Hand Luke".
@@kevinwillis8356 Yep, but I can't think of any Poison songs that use that line from Cool Hand Luke. Tell GnR to get their act together and start communicating again!
✌😉
It was GNR.
These are such fun. I enjoy the hell out of your diagnostic videos. Flawless logic. You're one impressive dude...
Have fun in school Marie but not to much fun. You are a very smart mechanic already, best of luck and make old Eric proud of his underling.
Eric O. I like your honesty
Good luck in automotive school, Marie. You’ve got spunk, girl! You’ll do great! 😊
This is one of the best examples of a voltage drop test ever, Because I have seen way too many techs get stuck with a problem like that. It's when the parts changers go crazy 🤡
Miss Marie is a great addition to the channel. I may have mentioned this in the past.
Several times. Have fun at school Marie!! You will kill it!!
One of the best mechanic s I v seen !!!!!! You could charge so much more .....
Go get 'em, Marie! Love to see a young lady that's interested in the Mechanical trades!
"What is that bolt made out of, PlAsTiC?!"
I legitimately laughed out loud. Love this channel.
Sadly, I have seen a plastic bolt replaced with a metal one. A DIY stereo "repairer".
Replacing the bolt with the proper one allowed the circuit to complete and made me $$$. It was a tough one to find the short on too.
@@f.k.burnham8491 I believe it for sure.
The way Eric says things appeals to me in a way that I can't really describe.
Stack some star washers under it and pray
Nice bit of teaching Eric. Marie is lucky to be mentored by someone who has a good handle on electron wrangling. Keep up the good work.
I like auction cars on your channel. They always provide a bundle of issues and give you a chance to teach.
best video ever, for students to see voltage drops and application of ohms law Thanks
Once got a Silverado from a body shop. No crank no comm with anything... later found out when lifting it up I saw the faint words that had been cleaned off the window “lightning strike”. After replacing EVERY module in the truck and a few other parts it ran like a champ. 👍
Such an insane amount of info in this video. I've been meaning to make a bunch of homemade test lights for a while, but this confirms that I really need to get working on it.
Best diagnostic guy I have ever seen. You rock.
Marie is great. She just a bubble of Fun.Great job at diagnose Mr.O
Excite Bike 64. Dude. So many memories came flooding back in my mind. Thank you for that Eric. Good times as a kid.
“Like zoinks!” LOL. Gotta love a Scooby Doo reference. ❤️
You are THE BEST DETAILED MECHANIC RUclipsR.
AND YOUR FUNNY.
MARIE IS LUCKY TO HAVE YOU AS A DAD AND TEACHER. SHE IS GOING TO BE AN AMAZING AUTOMECHANIC.
Eric is a teacher, despite his denials.
I cannot thank you enough for investing such time and energy into your daughter! I'm thankful that you also record it to share!
Guns and roses mr O. Great content as always. I liked the step by step mental algorithms you showed us.
Technical school is the way to go. She can always switch over to Hvac, Electrician etc. Your the best teacher she'll ever have, and she seems determined to follow in your foot steps. Great job, DAD.
Gotta love Ms. Marie givin Eric flack! All in good jest of course! Sure makes for a great video!!!😆
She's pretty adorable.
The smartest technician I know. You are successful because you actually understand the systems. I love all the videos.
"Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement."
Or watching other people exercise bad judgement... on RUclips! And that, folks, is a lot easier lesson to learn. And less painful, too! 😂
Experience: What you get when you were expecting something else.
Exactly.
General mess!! Lol. In your last video you asked us if we liked that type of video. I think this video had a lot of similarities in that you broke things down more. You're a smart guy and sometimes I find myself saying what did I miss?? I just wanted to say that yes, loved these last two videos and hope to see more like them.
Well done Marie!!! And so the student has become the master...🤣🤣🤣
I have been working as a mechanic for 40 years. But every time I watch one of your videos I learn something new! Keep up the great work. It is great to see Marie out in the shop learning from some one with great knowlege.
Informative as always... Good luck to Ms. Marie on her studies.
Marie has the correct type of mind to do diagnostics She is constantly trying to guess the possibilities and remember what she saw last time and when confused isn't afraid to ask I have a feeling she will be great
Educational as always, very enjoyable watch 👍
Marie is lucky to have such a handy prep school. She will be ahead of the game if she plays her card right thanks to you. Thanks from me for the class.
Love this video, Dr. O. Definitely keep these "long play" type videos coming - they're the reason I subbed nearly a year ago. If you're worried about time spent to edit these longer ones, I do digital video editing on the side and would love to help!
You a good instructor, because of you and Ray, (combined) my youngest has decided to become a mechanic. He's been in Tech school for several months now, and every know and then he either Quotes you, or Ray when At school. He also has found a knack, of diagnosing electrical problems, and when the teacher asked where he learned that, he just States SMA. and goes on about doing what YOU have taught. and is very methodical about it. Please keep up the posting. Thanks a bunch.
Another awesome video!! ....like anyone doubted that..I am so impressed that you have taken this bright young lady under your wing and have been teaching her all those things she should be looking for before she gets to tech class. I truly hope she knows how lucky she is to have you as a mentor/teacher. I would have given anything to have had someone like you when I first started out.👍👍 If she holds onto the principles you teach her, she will undoubtedly go very far. I hope you Keep doin what you are doing because you have helped so many of us and our appreciation I can safely say is immeasurable. Thank you X the resistance in an open circuit (infinity)😉😁 ...even your humour is catching. 😉🙂☺️ 👍👌
Blessings to you and your family and the South Main Auto family at this special time of year. Merry Christmas 🎄
Absolutely the best mechanic in NY. He explains and shows the proper way to repair
Eric is not a parts caravan repair man that is so common
here in Rochester
Go Eric!!
