  • In this video I help Miss Marie fix up her Civic. She smacked a raccoon on her way to work in the early hours of the morning. She didn't think it did much damage but a few miles down the road the car started to overheat and she knows enough from being in the shop to pull over and shut it off!! Let's see if we can get her car back on the road.
    (F.Y.I. body work is way out of my wheel house so go easy on me in the comments.) -Enjoy!

    My dad was a lifelong mechanic. So I grew up in a shop, cleaning parts, sweeping flours and anything else dad had for me to do. That was a good time in my life and I learned a lot from a very good mechanic. I'm now 81 and must say that I've used many principals learned at my dad's elbo. The principals of observing, analyzing, solving, and making the customer happy. you are doing a good job raising your family in a good environment and doing a very good mechanical job meeting your communities repair needs. I enjoy watching your videos very much. Keep up the good work.

    I worked for a guy who replaced engines (put a Ford engine in a Jeep body) and did all sorts of auto repairs. He helped me install a replacement transmission in my truck and that was about 12 years ago and she still runs great. It was a huge help to keep me from paying full cost of replacement and I'm sure those girls appreciate having you help them when they need it. It's always nice to see a video of you helping them fix their cars. As much as possible try to make them do the work, it's a great confidence builder. Thanks for making quality content we enjoy watching your videos and my little 8 yr old daughter often asks me if she can watch that guy fix cars because he makes it fun to learn.

    • @aussiebloke609
      @aussiebloke609 5 лет назад +1

      Dunno about Volvos in particular, but it's not uncommon for a repair shop or dealer to order the part (which comes in the raw) and immediately send it out for paint, according to the vehicle's colour code - the customer only sees the painted result, so it looks like it was already painted when it arrived. These days, there's too many colours available for each model to stock one of each shade, so it's more efficient to just paint them as required.

    I didn't have quite this much damage, bit I did encounter a chicken with the passenger side of my Forte, and it trashed the front fender liner on its way to the massive explosion at the rear wheel! 😮 Nice work, as always Eric.

    This brings back memories of when I was a body tech. You did it all right, just as we would have done. I have to say that is a monster raccoon to do that much damage. It was always a pleasure to find animal bits a week or so after it got hit...

      Cool idea, I’ve got about 1.75 million miles so far in a semi. It would look more like a peta truck. Or from old McDonald’s farm. I don’t swerve in a semi.

      Chevy Chase in rural areas with little lighting it’s not hard to accidentally hit critters. My wife drilled two armadillos in my 91 Honda Civic Si in the span of 15 minutes on a back County highway one night.

    Your way of looking at a problem and not over thinking is amazing. And then when getting parts reminds of what both my dad and brother-in-law would say. When getting parts from a yard be sure you have all parts. Even that, that may or not be needed. Better to have than not have and need them. And ice cream to boot is yummy. Chocolate for me. Later Eric.

    It's so painfull to watch these video's. This is what a garage and a meccanic can be like, while all we in real life all we have is grease monkeys that change out parts until the problem is solved, your pockets are empty and/or you go to the next guy (what ever comes first). Your community is so lucky to have you. Keep up the work.

    That I have done in the past when I needed a part like this was to use a sawzall and over cut to get the part + out. Then when you have it out and at the shop (or driveway in my case) get it down to just the part. Makes it easier when you have access to all your tools rather than just what you packed to the yard
