This needs to be on every single karaoke machine in Beijing. I left Beijing ten years ago and it brings tears to my eyes listening to this.
This is the greatest thing I've ever seen.
I'm a Beijinger and this is THE best promotion video for the city I've ever come across. Not all of the song is positive toward the city and yet this is still better than the craps that the propaganda departments are puking out. It shows the real city from the perspective of common folks--"jiediqi", that's how a Beijinger would describe it.
+The 51st Division Glad you liked it
接地气jiediqi
What vpn do you use I use protonVPN though I'm in usa
Living in Beijing is a thing to complete your life... Lots of memories
i love coming back to this video because I used to live in Beijing and I love seeing all the places I used to go. the building with the big light on top is my old apartment, embassy house. they tore it down though, and I think its now an office building
Very nicely edited, and paints a real image of Beijing. Cool video congrats!
Love the lyrics, there's nothing you CAN do. Which is nowadays correct of a lao wai (foreigner) in Beijing. Its either being an English teacher, magazine editor or doing your own thing. Local talent is just crazy talented these days.
Was feeling a little nostalgic and this hit the spot! Well done Mark and Andrew!
+Nick Wester Thanks Nick
Great stuff. Brings back so many memories. Really captures the expat life there. ❤️✨
One of those rare cases when a parody is actually better than the original. Well done. Nice lyrical depiction of China too.
urban dweller thanks! Andrew is a lyrical genius.
That video rocks! Tons of memories come back watching and listening to it.
Lived in Hangzhou for two and a half years and this song definitely applies to Hangzhou and Shanghai ~ THIS SONG brings back so many wonderful memories
Having escaped Beijing, (lived there from 08' till '18) and in the area where a lot of the normal shots were shot .... I miss it .. but it is constantly changing .. but it still makes me cry... the video did when it first came out and still does. An excellent piece of work.
Thanks! We worked hard on it, the bulk of the credit goes to the great mind/song/staging of Big Daddy Dough. ;)
I watched this again tonight, I still have those tears in my eyes. Whenever New York State of mind comes on in the bar, I instantly think of this video …. Wishing I was back in the Jing.
Really great job guys, i love it
This song speaks to the heart of every China expat who lived in city from 2005-2015! Unreal bars, what a song!
I just moved "home" after 4 years in Beijing, and now I really miss it. Thank you, this will help me over the rough patches getting used to being away. Love this song, brilliant.
This is fabulous Mark! Off to Beijing on Friday for the first time. I'm inspired :-)
I've spent nearly four months in Beijing over eight trips in the past two years--returned from my most recent trip last week (still trying to overcome jet lag)--and this video makes me want to go back soon. A fascinating, dynamic city with incredible contrasts. It is incredible how much of the essence of Beijing is captured in this one short video--BRAVO!
Brilliant! Nice to see the home city so well presented.
Thanks!
Gold. Gold! I'm sharing this in many places.
+Reuben Haggar Thanks!
I love this song so much! The humour, the humane insight and gritty acceptance and love of this amazing city! Well done to all involved!
perfect.
well-worth the wait, fantastic photography throughout as well...very nice, Mark!
omg- I feel extremely humbled, and slightly less talented; This is pure brilliance;
Well it took me 18 months, and I had great collaborators. ;) Anything you spend that much time on has to turn out better than a quick thrown together thing. ;)
Ryan, I've written 3 or 4 other Chinese economic/social raps already, but haven't had a chance to record or cut a video for them. But in the future, I'll be putting out raps about: 1) the 12th Five Year Plan and China's reliance on investment for growth; 2) China's nouveau riche and luxury consumption; and 3) the financial sector. Will let everyone know once they're launched!
Im 13 now and I used to live there when I was 12 and 13 and this song means so much to me. My dad still lives there and showed this to me. He comes home to US in a year.
Thanks:)
your 21 now? Wow time flies
Wow, great collaboration. Well shot and insightful lyrics, very well done! Your hard work paid off, props.

Shit I used to listen to this when living in Beijing. Time flies man
awesome lyrics!!! the video is great as well! Very funny how at the Great Wall all the tourists are curiously watching you guys dance.
loved this. Just moved here ,and fully inspires you to get out and about to explore - clear day or smoggy day!!
Beijing's the only place I've seen Princess perform. I'm hoping to catch her at Dougherty's launch party in a week though.
Fantastic video! I lived in Beijing for 5 years. I am now in Shenzhen. I can breathe a whole lot more easily here, and I love that Shenzhen with all its young families is a much more lighthearted city, but there are aspects of Beijing I miss a lot! I look forward to my next visit there.
Yes - its an amazing city, but it has some serious downsides ;)
I lived near Qingdao inside of Haiyang, Shandong Province, during 2010-2012, and this brings back memories of heading into the city for western produce and dining.
Was there visiting friends in April of 2013. Love the NY and Beijing cuts. Good job bigdaddydough...
My hometown!! Need to go back soon! cool song brotha
Mark, I am having trouble finding the words for this video. It is wonderful and I can't stop laughing! The lyrics could not be better. Cheers to everyone who helped make this video. It captures the heart and soul of The Northern Capital! --Lesley
Awesome video man! Great memories in this crazy city, can't wait to come back again :)
A job well done!! Your cousin showed this video clip to a few of us while he was working here in our Seattle office. What a small world! We were very impressed and loved it. My husband and I will be back in Beijing for vacation in September. Your video makes us even more anxious to get back…

Hey Mark great job, loved it!

Greetings from Shanghai
This is amazing. I had so much fun IDing the places in the video. It is like a love letter to the city. :)
This is a fantastic update for those of us who have lived there before. Thank you!
Thanks! How did you come across it?
This is a good one. Brought back to me quite a few ambiguous memories - I did shed a tear. Thank you.
太棒!That was awesome. I used to live in Beijing and I know every place in your video. I had a big smile and have to admit I feel a bit nostalgic.
much, much love, very well done. particularly liked the 'we all work late to protect the 8' line, very clever
I loooove your song! Made me shred more than a couple of tears. I left Beijing last October, and I miss the place terribly. 谢谢! You really managed to capture the essence of life in Beijing, and to tell the story of so many of us.
Right before I left, I took a picture of a graffiti which says exactly that, Beijing state of mind... around Houhai... did you guys have anything to do with that? I would post a link to the instagram pic I took but youtube won't let me...
Again, thank you!
This is a wonderful video, very creative and strikes a chord with us local Laowai!
Amazing
Just got back from a year abroad in Beijing. Loved this video, so relatable! love love love. Where can we download this? Hope this gets to iTunes soon!
Live in shanghai... And been a couple times in Beijing as well! I feel you buddy... Right on!! Really good.
That's just amaaaaaaaaazing man....Can't believe I've just met you actually in LSE though...Niubi!!!
Mike, thanks for the props on that basketball scene. I'm a basketball junky, and have been doing the spider dribble for years, but I have to say, it took me a good four or five takes before I finally nailed it. Dribbling and rapping at the same time is harder than I thought!
Thank you! Mark, I have so many good memories after living for five years in the amazing city of 北京!that you just made me recall, 感谢你!
my home for the next 4 months starting on the 28th this month. I cannot wait!
Great Job man, Miss my hometown so much!
Hey, awesome video , you capture the essence of being a expat in Beijing!
2 questions:
There is a place where I couldo download the song?
I could use the song for a slideshow of my pictures of Beijing? Is for personal use only (friends and relatives)
We love your video down here in Shanghai. Keep up the good work!
Good job!!!!!
This song is so great and I remembered him as in bishopric of our Branch in Beijing. Mark would you mind if I used this on my beijing visit video please? Thanks
Misiona Evagelia go ahead and use. Just attribute to Andrew. :)
@@MarkGriffith Thank you, I will. Thanks
Love it, well done guys! Got me reminiscing about my old city :)
Just brilliant... Captures the scene so well..
Thank you for making this for my hometown!
nice job!!! this video always make me homesick!!
99-2010. Miss it and don't too. Party was truly coming to an end around the time of the Olympics.
made my day! great production, and love all the references dropped. protect the eight! ha!
This is brilliant. First time I've felt a real pang of nostalgia for the `Jing...
Fantastic! Great shots of Beijing!
Amazing! This is too good! Thank you for uploading!
Love Beijing, this city is my home.
Lovely song and video, brilliantly done. You can justifiably feel proud of this.
outstanding
OMG!This video is just fxxking awesome!Work of geniuses!
Very good work, both on lyrics and production, humor and the message! It must have taken a lot of work, are you planning to publish somehow, take it on TV, etc..?
love the video, especially the CBD footage and all those pics really capturing the big city feel of beijing as opposed to popular photography mainly focussing on old sites likes temples and hutongs. I don't really like the lyrics though, I find they come with quiet a few stereotypes that work for smaller Chinese cities and rural towns but not nesessarily for china's tier 1 cities.
Seriously, I miss Bejing.
T_T
When this came out everyone was still super hyped about beijing and china, this song really catches the feeling of that expat genaration.
now we need a follow up song which is super depressing, describing what the hell has happened to this city and country
Great job! Do you a link from youku to share it with people who don't have access to YT?
I put links to Tudou and Youku versions in the description, here they are again :
