Remember to bypass the Youlean Loudness meter after you're done checking levels. That sucker is in the background monitoring and storing data all the time otherwise, and it slows everything down considerably. Seriously like 10 times slower to bounce a loop or song, and in my case the cpu started to get overloaded and the crackling in Reason reared it's ugly face. Took me a while to figure out, hope this helps someone else =)
Great video. I actually love mixing and mastering in Reason and find its more than capable of getting a great final product if you know what your doing. You're video is a great demonstration of that
Watching your video just helped me break through a mix I’ve been dealing with on and off for a while now… Can’t wait to tackle the master tomorrow with fresher ears!
@@chadtuinman5743Yes in Reason 12. The mixers master compressor along with the mixers channel eq and channel dynamics section. Three separate rack devices. This way you use them in other DAWs with the Reason rack plugin.
Thank you so much for going over mixing and mastering in reason, there's so little on RUclips about it that it was very exciting to see someone with your expertise cover it. Btw there are a bunch of mastering presets in Reason for different types of sound, have you had a look at them at all?
I haven’t had a chance to check those out. This was my first time with the Reason DAW and I was basically trying to emulate what I do in Pro Tools. It certainly merits another look, for sure.
Nice vid showing mastering in Reason. Thanks for doing this. If you have not, you might explore the warm saturation folder under the Scream 4 Patches folder. Dithering is also available when you export song as audio. I use a Rack Extension from Makeshift Design for metering, but the VST you show here looks nice too.
Dumb question - fully understand it’s all 1s and 0s, but did you find your mix and master to sound different in Reason? The way it sums audio perhaps? Probably user error, but I find my mixes to not sound as clear in Reason vs other DAWs.
So would you use the same technique for different sounds individually? Do you ever EQ all the instruments separetely or do you always use the whole WAV file or bus all sounds to 1 master and EQ and apply these effects on that? Thank you!
So, in Reason menu "File>Export Song as Audio File" there is a choice to export as 24 bit (no dithering offered) or 16 bit (dithering is an option). Why not just export as 24 bit and forget about 16 bit altogether? This is one of the reasons (no pun intended) I only create in Reason. I export 24 bit in Reason and then master in Reaper. Reaper gives me a much better mastering workflow and higher quality mastering options.
Dithering isn’t necessary with reasons studio bcuz of the algorithm changes to the floating point and bit depth. This all happens in the background so you can just focus on creating, mixing and mastering 😆
I just ran a test to double-check, but the dithering you're referring to is the dithered mixer, when summing attenuated faders. This is something that other DAWs do as well. When exporting a 24-bit file to 16-bits, Reason will not add dither unless the box is checked. Dither in this stage is used to mask the quantization error when converting to a lower bit depth. That's why that box is there.
@@TheRealAudioProfessor that applies to exporting files for mixing in another DAW, after mastering you can just export your finish track as it’s already taken care of in the final bounced of the stereo track to be released.
But it's not. When you export a 24-bit file to 16-bits, the end result is a 16-bit file with no dithering applied at the 16-bit level. If you were to master like I did, without checking the "Dither" box, you would have low-level quantization error. Again, this is why Reason has that box there.
@@mcdove Yes, but you can’t export a 16-bit file from a 24-bit file that way. You almost certainly wouldn’t be able to add 16-bit level dither like you can with any other DAW.
Thank you for getting involved in Reason. We need more people like you in our community.
Absolutely 👍🏽

Yep just encountered this myself haha. Editing a thunderstorm sound within my project and was like...okay, suddenly its clipping lol.
Brilliant. Someone who knows what they are doing with mastering and finding the tools in Reason to do it.

Awesome! Hope it goes well for you.
Followed through from start to finish, very happy with the final outcome, thank you very much!
Great tutorial !!,adding the double stereo imager makes a huge difference
I’m Reason gang and this is great thank you
WOW thanks!! SO clear and simple, i feel like i've really leveled up and can easily explain this to someone else
The bus compressor is also available as an effect you can drag anywhere, so you could have put it after the EQ.
and it does have a better sound it has faint air and harmonic content
I dont understand what you mean here.. the master bus compressor? Is that only possible in new versions?

Fantastic Video! I use also Reason for mastering, and I sincerly say, this was very explanatory and sounds great! respect!
Great stuff.

Super helpful video!
Could you tell me please if these settings would work for House music, thanks.
Hey there! Check out the “scream” distortion rack unit. It has a GREAT tape emulator.
Yep. I use the tape saturation on the Scream a lot. Useful in reducing the dynamic range as well.
Totally agree. Such a great plugin. Audiomatic can too.
Nice quality!
Thank you so much for this! Very helpful
Thank you so much 🙏👊
Right on brother thanks
Thanks!! 😊

u can def make a cleaner mix eq every track but sometimes instruments combined causes a build up of frequenceies
i appreciate you sir, thank you
I wished I fully understood all the technical terminology in this
Big tip: under edit, disable stretch.
Respect irie man
Can you or someone explain how to setup the rack?

@13:42 making zoom noises with the mouth is so reallife 😂😂
Subbed! 👍🏿💯
they have tape its called audiomatic
So, would you render after mixing or what type of file are you mastering?
My biggest issue is vocal clarity. It's a headache
It's interesting how Reason is never mentioned as a major DAW like Pro Tools or Ableton.
Coz it's more technical and a lot of producers are scared of it

Reason is like pure torture. Synths great, Reason workflow equals suffering.
IDK, one can get used to any workflow. I prefer creating in Reason, but not mastering. I think mastering in Reason is like a dog chasing its tail.
Funny how my workflow in Reason is really easy lol
That's suffering would be for just you. I have no suffering at all.
@@MixingGBP Why do you find it so complex?
Reason is about as smooth and easy as it gets.
Good video I don't mean to be a jerk but there was all kinds of crackling noise . And your final mix didn't sound that good.
Why are there people like you?
