Sidechain Tool, Gain Tool, and Stereo Tool - they're all hyper-focused tools that specialize in specific tasks to help you arrive at your sound, faster. Sidechain is all about the pumping dynamic effects that have become standard sounds in EDM and trap beats. Gain Tool puts you in control over signal levels, stereo panning, and routing in one sleek package. Perfect for automation, auditioning, or using in a Combinator. Stereo Tool is a stereo widener specifically designed to make a simple signal sound bigger and wider. Perfect for giving that old mono synth or vocal track new life.
In this walkthrough video, Ryan Harlin will show you the way simple controls on simple tools can bring a level of polish and complexity to your music and sound.
So glad to have a sum to mono button now. We need a built in DeEsser next.
Yes DeEsser please!
I understand wanting one built in but I will never give up Sibilance by waves. sofa king good.
@@mimikova390 it is a good one but I hate how Waves always changes its licenses. I have Ovox and they always do that
@@mimikova390 it is good. I wish Waves didn’t change their licenses all the time. I have Ovox and that has happened to me.
Very cool! It would’ve been awesome if the sidechain would allow drawing multiple gates into one measurement, allowing for matching asymmetric bassdrum rhythms without trigger.
Also, All Other company's don't have a Ryan Harlin ! this is the main Reason, why reason is so loved, the way of explaining things this guy has is unbeatable !
Ryan is the GOAT. I miss the funny videos we had back in the days tho.
He was the one making and recording the videos back when James Bernard was around and when He left Ryan went from not only those roles but the public face of Reason Studios. He got to his position because of his hard work so good for Him. He has My respect.
@@hankheegaye4490 Those Hank video where Written and recorded and produced by Ryan. Hank was paid voice actor but all He did was read Ryans Script.
@@HOLLASOUNDS Thé voice over was hilarious.
@@hankheegaye4490 Its had its time Frank went off to narrate Wildlife documentarys for Discovery, and other networks I believe.
Stereo tool is so rad! Love it, can't wait! only a few more days now
Interesting, great!
I'll get 13 when its $69 for the upgrade. I have enough synths and effects. The housekeeping updates are what the money is worth. The tagging features. Now fix Mimix!
why does it say "sidchain" (without the e) on the front panel?
Time to replace Shaperbox, Polyverse Wider and kHs Gain
kHz stuff is in RE format, so no need to replace
@@ruslanr.6171 no shit
Many of us have Shaperbox and don't want to pay for another unit that does the same thing. Reason 13 should focus on updating aspects that can't already be attained by other means, i.e. the DAW itself, not new synths or utilities.
I would’ve liked reason to have mpe by now. Then I’d buy it!
9:02 Wait you can hide sendknobs in the mixer. Like 5 on top of the faders. take my money :)
Sidechain Tool: 1:23
Gain Tool: 9:12
Stereo Tool: 13:04
Surprised the gain tool doesn't have a R only and L only option (sometimes taking only the one side and sending it to both outputs is a better option than summing them together and sending it to both outputs when you want mono).
please add chapters for easier reference!
Merecia recycle 3 mkIII
Um don't ee already have the capability to do this?
Love the part where you said ´´cheesé´😅
Really looking forward to Reason 13, but I bet the upgrade is going to be more expensive than they used to be
they raised update prices from 129$ to 199$ in 2021. So it will be 199$.
The update price is probably £199 and anyone who updated from Jan 1st 2024 update is free.
Or if you do the reason plus rental route it just shows up.
@@HOLLASOUNDS Yep. I paid £199 to upgrade to R12, so I expect it'll be the same for R13.
I have a feeling that they would prefer everyone to sign-up for R+, hence the increase in the upgrade price, but I prefer to own my software if I can.
@@NeilDonkin Thats the annoying thing about there payment system it dont adjust for currency's so We pay UK pay £199 and US pay $199 but dollers are not the same value as pounds are price should be £157. We pay over £40 more then We should.
Great tools but side chain tool should have been there 15 years ago 😅
Ryan, will you please throw your hat in the ring for the upcoming presidential election? It will be a landslide! Make Great Music Again!!! MAGMA!
I don't want the devices. I don't want to pay for devices that I don't want in order to upgrade my DAW. I only want my DAW to be upgraded because I own a shit-ton of VSTs that do similar things to what these new devices do. There should be more than one option when upgrading absolutely all DAWs. I should be able to upgrade my DAW's features without the necessity to pay for devices that I don't want. I understand why it's not offered as an option and why it's done in this way: being slowly drip-fed the upgrades that we want whilst paying for unnecessary things that we don't want achieves greater profits for shareholders. Capitalsm sucks!
That sidechain tool has got me crazy!!! Finally!
Wow reason has come so far the past few years. Development is slow but VERY consistent. And these video's are super helpful and fun to watch. Thanks Ryan 👊🏻
Wow this makes me understand side chaining even more. The fact that you can flip the channel rack and use like you’re in an analog world is awesome
It's always been Reason's greatest strength to me. I feel like I'm learning organically in what feels like real studio.
@@paulweyer4339 even to the SSL mixing board emulation
@@paulweyer4339 The most underrated gift Ill always thank Reason for.
Best DAW imo
Still needs a few little things
1 offline processing
2 retrospective recording
3 a way to save automation blocks
Reason is a DAW? Could've fooled me.
I wonder what a stereo widened banjo sounds like
That thing indicating modulation by the backside CV input in Gain Tool: Need that for all devices with backside CV inputs!!
Hi Can you make at minimum 13 different Combinators, with great desighn and cool sound design techniques using these new devices? Show us dirrectly with Combinators exactly how We can use these.
Hope we can get stem separation on the 13.1 update don’t seem to be happening on the new release
Thats what I want, If they did that it would show they are ready to be a competitor DAW to the more faster growing in popularity DAWs.
Some of these tools I already have the equivalent to in either rack or vst form… but I’m still eager to test these new ones out. Who knows maybe they’ll truly replace my other choices. 👍🎶
By far the best new features on R13.
YES! Super handy little helpers ... honestly, i see myself using ALL new devices in R13 a lot. Very useful update for my needs. Can't wait 😎
Well damn, i've made some old school hardtechno tracks back in the days with Reason 4.5, but this made me really think about getting back in the game. Let's get back to making some Chris Liebing-esk pumping beats with sidechaintool, fuck i want to get back to producing again!
Mclass mastering suite plus combinator can already do all of this.
I don't think that's the point. You could do all of this IRL before Reason. It's about streamlining and upping the quality.
QOL is worth it
The thing is, that there's company's that have all that, but not as simple and intuitive as Reason, Damn, you win always guys, ALWAYS !
Eres un grande, Ryan. Menudo trabajazo te estás pegando para promocionar Reason 13. ¡¡Estoy deseando que llegue el 13 para bajármelo!!
You're amazing, Ryan. What a great job you're doing promoting Reason 13. I can't wait for the 18th to download it!
Reason13 looks to be one of the greatest upgrades of any previous Reason versions thanks to all of these very well thought through devices, instruments and workflow changes. I'm happy I chose Reason as my main daw since V1. Thank you Reason Studios & Ryan!
Yes they apear to of been listening to all the feedback and requests from reason 12 critics. They have put alot of effort into the new UI.
They didn’t listen to us at all.
@@deafmouse- Well they cant please everyone.
@@HOLLASOUNDS let me rephrase, they didn’t list to most of us and brought nothing we asked for years….. no vst midi out, no track grouping in sequencer still, no folding notes or midi clip looping or scales in the seq…… I’m amazed you can say they listened to all out requests
@@deafmouse- I said Reason 12 critics, We know they took years to implement stuff but many of the requests from 12 users, and implemented them in 13.
Been doing the exact same thing as Stereo Tool with Kilohearts Comb Filter on stereo mode for quite some time! It's a good way to get *some* stereo width. Glad it's coming in an even more convenient package here and to all Reason users!
Kilohearts Comb Filter is free, so it's readily available to all Reason users.
@@TheValueOfN You’re right but this will be in the software already so even easier
@@MatthewParkerTunes I'd rather not pay for things that I already have. There should be more than option when upgrading: I'd like an option where I can choose to forego devices for a reduced price.
Thanks for these tools! I tried ableton recently and reason is just so much more fun!! It also works better for my looping workflow
I'm embarrassed to say this is the first time I've ever understood what the aux send section of the mixer does. This would have saved me a LOT of routing in the past.
As for the new tools, I love their balance of depth and simplicity. I'll happily be replacing some VST instances with these.
I’m really happy and excited for this release. Well done Propellerheads!! ❤
Is there a way to dock the new (floating) browser window into the existing browser window on the left?
Unpopular opinion here but f*** stem separation. If it involves AI keep it out of Reason. Just wanted to share an alternate view with the dev team!
LITERALLY Idgaf about that feature!😂😂😂😂 Tired of seeing that request.
If I really wanted it then there are VST's for it!
Well-said
Decades for side-chain to show up, this is good. I filled out bug reports for the media browser several times and still have update problems when i add new material to my sounds folder - i dearly hope this has been fixed, that is why i switched to Reaper DAW and now use Reason as a VST rarely. In Reason my VST windows disappear when I click on other areas of the screen, drives me absolutely nuts. Why on earth does it do that? "keep window on top" doesn't work..... Appreciate YOU though, very much....thank you
Side chain has been available for over a decade in Reason you just send audio or a LFO signal into the M class compressor or M class Equaliser.
@@HOLLASOUNDS Right, but check out the tutorials online, 11-20 minute videos showing how to do it. In Ableton and several other DAWs it take seconds as it's a feature available in every track. In Reaper I route any track into another track, taking seconds. No dealing with TAB and plugging in cables, etc.
@@pixelbender5897 Yes thats a good point but thats what Reason was bassed off, which was Analog gear and with that comes the more realistic system to route things. They could of made some Combinators tht could do it.
Still no midi export per item/per track. Still no aliases for inputs and outputs. No deal this time.
Ohhhhhhhhh the sidechain tool in send mode just sends a phase inverted signal to the master bus? Weeeeeeird, I'm gonna have to try that. I usually do this by adding a compressor to a bus and sending whatever I want ducked to that.
These are what I've been most excited for. As an avid user of the Pump RE, Sidechain Tool looks VERY enticing!
4 more days to R13! I wonder if I can get in 3.5 days by using a VPN out of Japan. :D
SOLD
Ok cool, shut up and take my money! 💸
again baffled by what i see! i can't wait for next tuesday!!
I think it was probably around 2018 or 2019 that i moved decades of music projects across from other DAWs, and i converted them to work in Reason (which took some time and effort, believe me). And even with some other producers making fun of me for using Reason, i just didn't care. I loved it, and i was really, i mean REALLY looking forward to this update and these new tools. But £200 to upgrade from the full version of Reason 12 to Reason 13? Two, hundred, ****in' quid?! And that's day one when this might even be some kind good deal for early birds or whatever? Goodbye Reason, we're done.
Thanks for this tutorial! I have not used Reason in over 10 years but nice to see that they simplified the sidechaining process!
RYAN! RYAN! RYAN! RYAN! Love your videos man! awesome!!!
I'm still confused!
This is so good in depth video! Ryan's videos are always perfect and full of inspiration and a layman like me can also understand. 😅
Very well-thought-out utilities!
That stereo tool is insane - I'm not a huge fan of the whole of the update because I still feel that some basics have not yet been addressed.
I moved to Ableton, where side chaining a signal is done via a drop down menu vs a gimmicky cable routing trick from 1998
i mean, your splitter could have been increased to have as many patches as you desire, 10 years ago.
But no. They just keep overlooking all the small things and adding more crap we don't need.
THIS IS COOOOL !
Unfortunately, this new browser sucks. it takes up almost the entire screen and is not very intuitive
these def seem like helpful workflow devices and changes, but nothing worth upgrading for till v14. what i'd really like to see is AI reverb removal, or something like that not possible with v12, not just "faster" versions of things we have.
If You are Local to S.F. Could You Please offer us Some Reason Lecture Classes at “Pyramind Studios “ S.F.
I've been waiting for Sidechain tool for YEARS and you excited my expectations 🎉❤🎉
Pump is a free Rack Extension that does the same thing
@@NeilDonkin Pump is great. But I'm sold on sidechain tool. Reason took it to another level.
@@somuchfortalenthow does one take volume ducking to the next level? It does the exact same thing as all side chain tools
@@deafmouse- No sidechain tools offer three trigger modes with EQ, ducking curves and CV controls. I bet you also complain that all distortions and compressors are the exact same. @daftmouse
@@somuchfortalent Yeah, I agree. The aditional features in the sidechain tool are fantastic
We need a professional eq and a multiband compressor
Would be nice, TdR nova is free a vst for that if you dont have it yet. Would be better in the rack tho
Meh, synths, the world has too many. PLAYERS: that's what will make me get my WALLET OUT for Reason.
Trying to figure out how in the world this works with redrum and the compressor tool.
5:00 Can you control the trigger threshold for the sidechain input with a dial instead of the mouse? If anyone knows please let me know.
That Stereo Tool must be insane for vocal recording.
I'm very xcited for Reason 13. Bummed no MPE yet, but I'm sure its on their radar.... I hope!
I've always been baffled by sidechain but funny enough, the frequency way to use it is how I'd want to use it. Well, an additional way. I will use the other ways as well.
Please make a volume control (pre-fader ) on the audio track itself on the sequencer panel , so that you don 't have to go into the combinator ....And please make it possible to turn off the project in the background so that you don't have to constantly download the project and wait for it to load .....
Epic! Thanks for this; I never use side chain effects because I never quite understood, That will now change. 🤓
Two things.
1. People stopped the video to search where this Benassi patch from.
2. I need this update.
can we get a hide instrtument utility function so i can have my favourite instruments at hand easier as this program bulks up
I normally do pulsing ducking manually recorded modulation, and just copy paste that, but I use Pump Like.
that downtempo was some CV porn music if I've ever heard it!
1:25
To be completely honest we need more players and new daw skins I’m sure we all have vsts that do these same things I’m mostly excited about the browser
why do aux sends get sent straight to the master instead of going back through channel like q real mixers?
How could you use the new tools to create Anyma type sound cuts? Be gr8 if you could show how these common modern sounds are made.
Rule #1 in marketing today: Get someone totally freaked out and neurotic as a presenter.
Ryan is now i such a great shape, like the new Reason :)
Thanks. Super nifty stuff!
That was a dreamy acoustic guitar sound. What guitar was that? Love it
me thinking this one gonna be a simple video : turned out its another classic Reason video .
i want to change this reason guy to a young lady. ..the contents is nice, but i dont want to see the old guy all the time...
So happy that you guys made more useful tools for workflow. Huge shoutout to Sonicpump doing us so good for so many years! Congrats team
How does stereo tool sound on high transient sounds like drum breaks??
Amazing video !! Thank you Reason !
Update: Its not a curve. Its an ADSR.... . GUYYYYS!!! Dont pick the leaves of the low hanging fruit tree, pick the apple!!!
Comment still applies for grain, bv8, etc
That tiny curve editing tool on the sidechain tool is unfortunately following a bad pattern in Reasons design which is too small controls. Its probably to late for the release now but that tool should get a redesign. Devices already know the concept of Expanding and collapsing vertically. Make that thing expand and give it the full width curve editor it deserves (and if youre actually going to address this, maybe add Grains and BV8s spectral curve and everything else where one is supposed to draw stuff to the list). Its kind of a downer after the workflow video to see yet another way too tiny drawing tool in the rack extension list.
😂😂😂
They will probably add new options to the midi edit now they have set it up, there is a possibility they didn't want to bring those features to 12 because it would of complicated the coding when they switched to the new UI. This a significant change to the UI and now Its functioning I expect faster implementation of midi edit options similar to FL Studio.
The knob buttons don’t bother me, but damn so much of the new browser and ui is impossible to read!!! So tiny with not enough padding for elements
@@deafmouse- Looks bigger Written then Ableton and s big or bugger then how the texf has been in Reason has been for years.
@@HOLLASOUNDS I have no issue in Abelton, I can’t read the new tags in Reason well without scaling the ui
Reason stop with reason companion please bye! thanks
you are very far behind the competition and are implementing what others have had for a long time
I had to scroll all the way to the bottom to find a comment that represents my sentiments.
Then don't use it.
@@atmadsen Wooow! You're a genius. Why didn't we think of that?😕
I dont know.
man that panning on the Gain tool......NICE!!!!!
Reason is like the ex you want back😊❤
4 more days FTW !!!!!

Very nice additions
