@B B They have monopolized the top tier, Patek being probably the classiest and Rolex having the best marketing department. The most BORING brand is IMHO A. Lange & Söhne who produce well-machined and heavy-looking German tanks. If I were to buy anything from Richemont group, I would go for Vacheron Constantin rather than ALS.

I owned the GS GMT hi-beat for a short while. Loved the watch except for its thickness. If Seiko can slim the case down a couple of mm, it would be a winner. The bracelet isn’t on the same level as the watch head, but it’s still quite nice. I replaced it with a snowflake - which, IMO, is the best GS model available.
Heck of a nice 3 watch collection. My 3 watch collection is also represented by Germany (Stowa), Japan (GS), and Switzerland (Breitling). I‘m not a chronograph guy, but if I got one, it would be a Zenith.
Not really. Basically all the high Hz components are dry lubricant and silicon. So a typical service would be 300CHF every 5 years , and over double that cost if you need a complete service if for example the case needs resealing or a new crystal is needed. Hope this helps !
Just a thought...I had a very similar Zenith on bracelet. I was absolutely gobsmacked by the poor quality of the bracelet! Flimsy and similar to a regular Citizen or Seiko. I didn't get to have it serviced, sorry I can't help you with your query. It has been sold with the speed of light.

I’d love to love Nomos, but just can’t get past the bauhaus design. Also, I’m not a huge fan of the push that makes the machine finishing seem good (I’d rather poor, cheap hand finishing than expensive machine finishing), but appreciate the in-house movement. But that bauhaus... Not for me. Perhaps that’s a good thing, or I’d buy all of them...
@@thecatalogcollectorSame here. I love the look when other people wear it, but I got to try one on and blah! Too feminine, maybe? No, that's not it. Just not for me.
They tend to be bigger on paper than in person, the particular GS in the vid is 40mm but lug to lug is only 46.3mm...wears more like a 38mm. The case shapes also lends to a smaller feel on wrist. So pair that with the out-of-this-world finishing, its pretty breathtaking
Have to agree with the comments made, they do tend to wear a little smaller than their dimensions suggest. I've a midnight blue spring drive and, luckily, the limited edition red dial 'autumn' hi beat. 40mm and 39.5mm respectively. I've small wrists but because of the lug width, curvature and some clever brush and polish, it feels slimmer and smaller than it should. If they ever do manage a sub 10mm hi beat or spring drive then I think they'll conquer the world.
This was a great video. Thanks for showing some watches that are well made, have a pedigree, good looking, with outstanding movements, and are reasonably priced. One question I have for you is, what your thoughts are about Baume et Mercier watches? I know they aren't top tier watches but they are a company that has been around a long time. They have their place in watch making history. Did they "sell out" by becoming a department store brand in the 1970s ? I have a vintage late 1950s early 1960s 18 karat gold, super thin case wrist watch I inhereted from my Grandfather. It could use a good cleaning and slight restore on the face. I know it's not worth a lot as it only tells time, no date no second hand but, is a nice looking watch and runs fantastic. Why did they fall from being a great watch company to just another watch company?
They are both beautiful watches !!! It really comes down to taste and what kind of person you are. The beauty of someone's collection is you can have different watches for mood, occasion etc. That rolex model you couldn't give away years ago now look you just don't know.
If I was to go outside PP/Rolex, and build a 3 watch collection, I like the idea of a VC Overseas chronograph, Tudor BB58 and a JLC grand reverso duo face. This would cover a lot of bases.

It is crazy how the dial of this watch (3:38 and 4:38) is so similar to the new Seiko Alpinist 1959 Depp Lake. It has same kind of "dna sequence' shape like detail. Gorgeous for a Seiko.

Ah great now I can go to bed. I can't believe I actually wait up for these. Thank goodness I'm retired. Great review. I've been eyeing that Nomos maybe next year.
It's their Tuxedo dial, they've done it in the past, on the SARX045 and 047 (blue and blue/green), and GS in white SBGA147 and 347, but this one in all black is just something else! Seiko is the king of dials if you ask me, no one does such pretty, smooth and tasteful dials like they do!
Thanks for calling out the watch journalist's echo chamber. You have chosen 3 beautiful timepieces. My tastes tend towards vintage chronographs especially from Seiko. I smile every time I glance at my watch box with nary one Rolex, AP or Patek. It's a rich world of watches indeed if you look beyond the usual suspects.
If I was doing a collection to highlight movement technology, this would be a great choice. That is usually pretty far down on my list of dollars out the door for.
I'm not a watch nut, but l love this channel. Question. ls it true there were/are watches for the blind, the wearer touching the hands to tell the time?
Nice. But I'm rather partial to my NOMOS Orion 38 Date: Similar well balanced face, but with silver-white dial, the golden indecies, the tempered blue hands, it is an extraordinarily beautiful timepiece. At 38mm and just 8.9 mm thick, it wears lightly and comfortably on the wrist; plus you'll save over $1000 on the price of the Ahoy. All told, It's no wonder the Orion 38 Date is the choice of discerning minimalists the world over.
It's absolutely stunning! It's also, hopefully, my next GS. I've got a midnight blue spring drive and a red dial high beat. Would love to add that cream dial to my collection. It's shockingly good for the money.
@@michaeleccles3336 I agree with you on the price point there! Gorgeous dial and of course the amazing polishing grand seiko is known for. Hoping to pull the trigger on one soon! Kudos on your other two time pieces from Grand Seiko and hope you can add a third one.

I smile every time I glance at my watch box with nary one Rolex, AP or Patek. It's a rich world of watches indeed if you look beyond the usual suspects.
The El Primero takes my money in this collection, though I do love Grand Seiko.
Beautiful watches there! Would love to hear your take on the Grand Seiko Sbgm221.
Great video as always!
It's absolutely stunning! It's also, hopefully, my next GS. I've got a midnight blue spring drive and a red dial high beat. Would love to add that cream dial to my collection. It's shockingly good for the money.
I used to own one. Sold it because I found it too thick for my style. 14.5mm for dressy watch is no joke
@@michaeleccles3336 I agree with you on the price point there! Gorgeous dial and of course the amazing polishing grand seiko is known for. Hoping to pull the trigger on one soon! Kudos on your other two time pieces from Grand Seiko and hope you can add a third one.
Hi what about price all three new pieces
How do the watch hands scratch beneath the crystal?
I’ve never had a thumbnail speak to me more than this one
Great video, I agree with no.3, but 1 and 2, not so much. Call me a snob. I respect Seiko but I am not ready to add neither a GS nor a Nomos to my humble collection.
