    Great review Sean! Between you Thomas, TNBT, Gutt, Darko, Z, Digital Stereophony, & JNT you guys rock as an industry of reviewers! Each of you have your strengths but you all are much different which is why it's fun to watch all of the channels to see the different takes. I really appreciate your comparisons and your placement suggestion portions of your vids.

    You can thank, amongst others, Q Acoustics, for the movement to provide high-er fidelity to entry level speakers. The 1000i came out in 2007. Other speaker designers caught on - notably Andrew Jones, starting with his Pioneer BS-21s, which had a much wider reach and scale than Q Acoustics could have at the time. And of course, the market soaked all this up eagerly.

    I bit the bullet and finally picked up the Q Acoustics 3030i and paired them with the similarly priced Cambridge Audio AXR85. So far after listening to a few new records I am now a believer in buying equipment dedicated to a purpose. The phono stage built into the AXR85 is worlds better than what was built into my RX-V6A from Yamaha. I was like okay... now I get it... records should sound like this on the regs. ;]
    I had my best friend over and he was digging the sound coming out of the system. After a moment he said this.... "Wait that is coming out of a vinyl record!"... haha yup! That made my day. I then streamed some Spotify through AXR85 built in BT and it sounded near as I can tell CD quality. I ended up preferring the sound of the 3030i's with the foam port plug as there was so much bass. It's not that I did not like the sound/feel of the base... just trying to be a good neighbor :)
    Everything that Zero has said about this speaker is on point and everything that most other reviewers have said is also on point. I am super pleased with my new stereo system and really blown away by the music coming out of it. I found myself just letting the music play and really enjoying all of the distinct layers that I usually cannot pick up on so well with other equipment.
    Would I say that it was worth the money spent? Absolutely!

      I also own the AXR85..the phono stage does sound fantastic...but I brought a separate phono amp and I did notice a slight improvement..I would recommend the 3050i s...superb sound and they look great in the walnut.

    Hi Sean! As I commented on your review of the 3020i, Great looking speaker cabinet, very nice finish work. The 3030i, also has a great price tag like it's little brother. The first thing that I thought of when I saw the 3030i next to the 3020i, was how well they would work together. These would be perfect for a surround system, that also serves as a music listening system. Using a pair of the 3030i for the fronts, and a pair of the 3020i for surrounds.To top it off one could use the Q Acoustics 3090C, or 3090Ci as a center channel. Double duty for music, and movies for not a lot of cash! Have a great one man!

    I find the 3030i to be an easy to drive speaker, likely because it’s rated at 88 db. The recommended power rating is between 25-75 watts. But, I’m running my set at 20 watt/channel at 4ohm with my old mini stereo receiver in a medium sized room with no power issues. The 3030i’s are surprisingly large speakers though, which require a large amount of floor space 2-3 feet away from the wall to make them sound good.

      @@andreassouth1523 I recently switched amps to a Rega Brio, and the speakers sound a bit more forward sounding and detailed on the high end compared to my old class D amp. But they still sound smooth, and take the edge off tracks that I’d find fatiguing on other speakers. Easy on me by Adele, and Rise Up by Andra Day are pleasant to listen too through the 3030i’s.

    Thanks for this review. Have been waiting for this for quite a long time now. @14:30 - I did a blunder last year when I decided to pair 3020i with a mini Class D integrated amp as my desktop audio setup. Man! 3020i are definitely not made for near field listening. I ended up replacing them with the even smaller 3010i which sound much better (but not perfect) with that small amp. Either you give 3020i a lot of power (which isnt possible for desktop setups) or settle for smaller speakers like I did in my case.

    • @ZeroFidelity

      Thanks for sharing! I don't feel like the 3020i's are bad in a desktop environment (at least when placed on decent stands), but I agree that there are other solutions out there that may work even better.

    Sian, you are absolutely right. Advancement in speaker technology above any other component, means that right now, speakers costing under £500 offer far superior performance than speakers costing £1000 10 years ago. I’m in the middle of upgrading my system. Not that there’s anything wrong with my current system, just that I now have more disposable income than I had when I first got into audio 35 years ago. My amp cost me £1800 - it is still in production, but now comes with a remote and costs £1600 and still kicks ass and holds it’s own against amps at twice the price, which is why I’m experiencing difficulty choosing an upgrade. My speakers on the other hand cost me £2400 35 years ago. Now, speakers costing far less easily out perform my current pair. So much so that I’m spoilt for choice in the price bracket ice allocated so I’m still enjoying my original pair.

    You have an uncanny gift for talking me out of impulse Hi-Fi purchases. I'm sitting here at 3 in the morning having spent the whole night trying to decide whether or not to go for a £520 3030i and NAD C 316BEE v2 bundle. It's a great deal but I'm very happy with my existing set-up and your points about small rooms and the bass ports needing to be two feet away from the wall gave me the out I needed.
    I use a pair of speakers from the early 70s (Castle Acoustics Richmond) with an older NAD amplifier and the looser bass and treble is part of the charm. The NAD 310 has a very good SNR of 106db and the clear sound makes a good combination. I get a nice vintage sound from CDs and vinyl alike and I can go from drum and bass to classical at the drop of a hat.
    I love my system but I keep getting tempted to try and see what else is out there. The main thing that stops me doing it is the thought of having to disconnect my Castle speakers and put them away and I just don't know if I could bring myself to do it.

    Thank you for the review! I had already purchased the 3090ci and a pair of 3020i's in March, and a pair of 3030i's in April. Space, aesthetics, cost, and sound all came into play and I searched all the reviews I could find before moving up to the 3030i's. While all the reviews were good, what they were missing was a direct comparison between other speakers at the 3030i's price point and above. I absolutely was interested in the Elacs, the Bro3, and the Focal 906's and would've loved to have had that direct comparison sooner. It really does help those of us on a budget. Now I'm debating adding an amp to my Denon AVR-X3600h (maybe a big jump to the IOTAVX AVXP1) and a second subwoofer (any sub $300 recommendations appreciated lol). Thanks again!

    Hi Sean! Thanks for all your very interesting reviews. I've been shopping around to find a good pair of speakers, a full featured amp and a cd player. But, the market is so vast,... I'm lost,... I'm a little bit like you, in terms of music listening: a little bit of everything. I just don't need much bass for my music. I prefer clarity and precision since I listen to a lot of classical and opera. I'm looking at a budget system, under $2,000, for all three componentes. I would welcome your advice on this. I hear the speakers are the most important component. What are your favorite speakers under $750? With that clue I could start to build the System. I also thought I could start with a pair of powered speakers, they're really good and affordable right now,... I'm looking at Edifier compared to the "high end" Peachtree, Kanto, Audioengine, etc,... What's your take on these?

    Hi. Thank you for the great review. I have a pair of 3020 and I love rthe sound. If I wanted to push the enveloppe arround 1000/1500 for a pair of speakers that would have the same sound characteristic (and very good soundstage) what would you suggest ? Thank you for your time if you have any...
    Also, I know you do all that for free and might not have the time, but I haven't seen any reviewer ever doing presentation for newbies to this audio world of speakers in 3 budget zones (say up to 500, 500/1500 and 1500/3000) where the speakers presented for those categories would be grouped by sound signature style. It would be so helpful to know for a price range what are 5 good speakers/brands that are going to be airy and bright or laidback and warm... Because you guys are scientists with that, knowing all these speakers and what you technicaly hear more than most of us who sometimes barely know brands when it's all new to us, and it would be a very quick sorting for targetting what speakers to listen more reviews about...
    (And did I say same with amps, for like the 10 most purchased brands) ? That too would help (How does Arcam sounds vs Cambridge, etc.) Global lines, or ranking the amp brands from brightest to warmest signatures, disregarding of their class). But I guess you have enough work... It was just some ideas.

    Hey Zf. I’m far from an audiofile but my current favorite setup is the Elac reference premier and a sprout 100. In your elac video I never heard you mention the sprout but this combo is perfect. Elac adds the smooth musicality back to the class D amp, and the sprout with all its detail adds some life to the Elac. Just wondering if you had tried this?

      Zero Fidelity if you do please get back to me. I had the rp600m’s before this. Sounded good but these speakers sound amazing on this amp. Never realized how much mid bass was missing from my rp600m’s till I heard these. Had to dial my SVS sb2000 back about 7-9 DB’s on the Elac speakers just because they sound so much fuller

    • @ZeroFidelity

      @@RogallaMarineRC The mid-bass can actually be pretty full on the RP600M's. More a matter of setup with those. That said, I'm glad you're digging on your system. The Sprout II will remain in the history books for me, but it's such a straight forward amp that it can be easy to remember and predict what it will and will not work well with. That was a whole lotta W's.

Yeh, I get a roasting when she gets home, but after a couple of weeks it’s blended into the room like anything else and she ceases to notice, or comment! The ultimate answer is a man cave or separate listening room. Unfortunately, not many of us, including me, can afford that luxury.

    As always a great video with a different perspective. I've been waiting for this review for a couple of months now, since you reviewed the q3020i, but now I know the q3030i won't work for my desktop setup. What would you recommend for a near field desktop setup for anything up to $1000 or 1200?

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  4 года назад +2

      So at that *exact* pricepoint, I don't have a firm recommendation. A set of used Harbeth P3ESR's can be had for around $1200 if you're patient enough. If you want something new, the best nearfield speakers I've heard so far, at $1000/pair, are the Buchardt S300 MK II's... with the ports plugged. It's a real odd solution that wont physically work for some, but those surprised the eff outta me in a desktop environment.

    That is some strong water Sean would that have ice in it lol
    Placements important you said you had to tow them in what is not desirable for rear ported speakers, in the corners should be.? They should be 0.9 metres from the front wall measured from the front of the speaker, to get synergy time alignment from the port and the front drivers this is hard to achieve if they are pointing at an angle towards the listener but you didn't like them closer together pointing straight.??

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  4 года назад

      Pointing them towards you will technically increase the distance between the rear port and the wall, although not by a significant degree. Pointing the speakers straight-out into the room resulted in a good sound, but the center image was notably less focused when set up like that (in my room).

    • @johnsweda2999
      @johnsweda2999 4 года назад

      @@ZeroFidelity yeah I hear you... You can achieve it at an angle but I'm not sure what the distance should be it all depends how far away from the side walls the speakers is and front wall, ideally you'd want closer to the back of the wall on a steep angle i would say, You have to measure the distance from the front wall and the distance to the side wall and to the speaker to get the right synergy, the angle of the Speaker off the two walls would difficult to achieve so not sure. You would need a baffle ideally on side of the speaker, work out the angle of the baffle to give you a straight line back to the speaker and listener.
      Have you experimented with corner placement if you've got a desk say, using one corner of a room. on small speakers that should work quite well.

    Having owned all the 3000 line I think these speakers are great there very easy to listen to and easy to power, 2mtrs distance? Done that test but I found 8" is best because your buying these for the best and 2mtrs I found your losing that base,build is top grade,my round up is these are a master of nothing yet still tick all the boxes, comparing these to more higher speakers normally gets you more but I look at it opposite your buying new speakers upto your budget and these hammer everything upto 400£$ if this is your budget your going to be hard pressed buying anything better

      Having owned both, (still using both actually) I prefer the 3020i over the Concept 20. It could be my listing room but I found the Concept 20 have a sound signature that stands out in my ear and mind. Hard to explain but the 3020i are easier for ME to listen to. To be honest and fair, the Concept 20 DO sound much more transparent and have a wider sound dispersion with a wider soundstage. Both are great and I love Q Acoustic!
