Curious about how the new 3030i stacks up to the smaller 3020i? So am I. Especially given how similar both speakers are in price. If you're interested in that kind of comparison, take the time to give this post a 'like'. If enough of you do so, I'll see if Q Acoustics will be down to send some 3030i's my way. On the surface of things, it looks like you get the same thing, only more of it. But as some of you know, that's not always how things play out.

I am using my 3020is as mains for my apartment living room and blew my mind the moment I hooked up to my vintage pioneer A9 integrated amplifier and streamed some deep house. Because my living room is so small, the bass is visceral and deep yet tight and punchy and does not need a subwoofer.

How small is small? I'm looking for these as mains and surrounds with a viewing distance of around 8.5feet to the TV. The rears will be close to the back of the sofa (against the wall)

I use Q acoustics for my 5.1 system, 3020s for the front left and right, 3090c, 3070s and 3010s for the rears with a Denon 2400 amplifier with my own brand speaker wire. It sounds fantastic, completely neutral and blends well with all genres. I am so glad I went for this quality British brand

Hi Trushar -- I'm also considering these to be part of a home-theater setup. 3020i for Fronts, 3090ci for center and 3010i for rear. However, I'm not going to go with a sub-woofer for sometime. Does that impact the overall presentation? How is the bass on these Q Acoustics?
My use-case is mainly for gaming + movies. Music listening is secondary. Was wondering if a lack of sub-woofer will adversely impact my setup. Please let me know.

@@vinaychilukuri Hi, Yes it probably will. I am personally thinking about getting another sub for a left/right approach as it does make a huge difference below 80hz. Dont get me wrong, the mids are great but for movies, you would need that low down bass to bring the whole experience alive.

@@looneytoons171 Thanks a lot for the reply. I noticed that the Q Acoustics operate in the 65Hz range and above. So, bass will be a problem. I'll probably go with Pioneer Andrew Jones speakers. They seem to handle decent amount of bass without the need to have a sub.

Thanks Sean for another good review. Not all connoisseurs of music can afford higher end equipment; so it’s good that you review some more affordable speakers. Your comparison with the PSB and Klipsch of similar price was welcome too. The inclusion of the Dynaudio speakers in the comparison was useful to ground some perhaps unrealistic performance expectations of buyers at the more affordable prices. Well done.

Very glad you mentioned crossing the tweeters in front of you - it does really help with precise imaging and also tightens the bass. I've had them for about 4 months now, driven by ICE power diy amp and diy tube pre. They're normally positioned at the sides of a built-in entertainment center and we play them facing straight ahead from this position for TV/moves. We bring them out and do the cross-in-front thing for most music.
I've been in the audiophile realm for 30 years now and I am mightily impressed by how much lower priced speakers have improved. These speakers play with a quality that was not touchable for less than $2K in the late 80's/early 90s.

@@yoguyogueee721 I tried the Klipsch, Jamo, and Q Acoustics (and a few others that I don't remember but where too expensive). I love my 3050i setup very balanced and no shrills to my ears like the Klipsch. But if you are a base head, I would get a better subwoofer. For me, it is the way that I like it. Only thing that could get better is the finishing around the edges but you only notice it if you look very closely. The center is not the best but I am sure it is my poor room acoustics. Overall, I am very satisfied with my setup and wouldn't trade for anything else.
Jamos weren't bad and were value for money.
Don't buy speakers based on reviews, buy them based on your ears. Because when I demoed more expensive speakers, they were the same performance to me or has better separation but wasn't worth paying the difference at the time. So, always demo the speakers before you buy.

They are. The finish is vinyl, but it looks lovely and the seam is hidden on the bottom side. They look very good with the matching stands (also very stable with them). I was going to make stands for them, but any kind of complimentary design cost nearly as much or more than the Q acoustics ones, so is took the plunge.
Best of all, the finish is a near perfect match to the wood base of my pre-amp chassis.

Just across your video. Really enjoyed the details. Definitely going for the 3020i. Kind of sound I am looking for and within the price range. Just paired it with the Sony str-dn1080. Just starting off on building my first ever setup. Using them also to help boost up the TV sound output. Flat is not huge so think this will do and don't think I'll need a sub for now as I think this will be OK. Good detailed work. Thanks.

Thanks for the review ... just picked up a pair and awaiting their delivery. I do listen to a lot of metal but also other lighter fare like Lite Rock ... Looking forward to the laid back British sound to be honest. I've owned many Klipsch speakers over the last 20 years and while you are right they are more forward and alive for metal especially, they do get fatiguing at longer listening periods. Klipsch has a nice live sound but all their speakers I feel are hard to tame.

Great review as usual, really helped pin down my next purchase. Your thoughts would be appreciated on the following.
The 3020i's would be used solely for enhancing TV sound & streamed music/podcasts via Spotify, Tidal etc.
Music tastes are light classical, piano/guitar soft jazz & female vocals.
Room is 12x16ft, carpeted with heavy curtains.
For power & streaming services, am considering the Blue sound Powernode 2i HDMI. Would this be a good fit or can you suggest alternatives. Trying to stay minimalist on boxes & cables to keep 'er indoors happy!
Finally, what is the mini stand, shown under the speaker, at the beginning of the video & where can I buy it, in the UK?
    Thanks

I just got these a couple days ago, still breaking them in but very pleased I chose them. They replace some Mission 760i's. I absolutely love those Missions but I know since doing upgrades to my gear that they are not able to produce what my amp is capable of delivering (Cambridge Audio AXA35). The Q Acoustics give me more and the bass/mid bass is far improved. A bit more detail than the 760i's but not over revealing and with some warmth to it. They are also easier to drive so getting used to lowering the volume on the amp a little bit. Will give an update after some more break-in for a month or two.

So what am I doing wrong? I've had a pair of 3020i for a few weeks now and I CAN'T get used to the sound. Most reviewers call them slightly warm, but for me they are fatiguing AF. They feel shouty and trebly and almost aggressive. I know I come from a pair of very old and possibly crappy, tiny KODA (kinda no-name) floor standers, which I believe had their top end so rolled off you didn't hear any of it, but I'm losing my mind here. When I listen to recordings, every minute or so there's gonna be some note that's so sharp it pierces my ears. I've even tried putting some cotton cloth in front of the tweeters (that seems to have helped a little). Now I'm testing them at a much lower height (on little 40cm stands), which also seems to be helping (less fatigue than putting them on 100cm high bookshelves). I'm still using my AVR (Yamaha V595a, I know, also old), so what's going on? Why do so many people enjoy the Q Acoustics sound but I still can't? Could they be a really bad pairing with my old Yamaha? I'm not expecting miracles, I just don't want pain in my ears because I've spent money on new speakers :(
