We as human beings are fallible and sin often without thinking twice - whether it be pushing/barging past someone in a rude manner through to drinking alcohol through to assaulting someone - they're all sins regardless. We as Muslims should strive to be the best that we can be, following in the footsteps of the final messenger of Allah (swt) despite being fallible sinners. Asking God for forgiveness and repenting after a sin doesn't make it right, but it at the least shows humility to the point that you feel ashamed of your actions in front of Allah (swt) and shows that you know that he is the greatest, the highest, the creator - and it is he alone that can forgive you. A humble sinner who repents and does tawba is better than an arrogant and obnoxious one who doesn't care.

There is no such thing as a "good person" when we are judged by God's standards, the 10 commandments, every single one of us has broken at least one. If you've ever told a lie, ever stolen anything, ever looked at a woman with lust (committing adultery in your heart), or used the Lord's name in vain then you are guilty of breaking His law. It doesn't matter how minor you think it is to break God's law, it is a big deal to Him because He is a perfect God and He is Just so to remain Just, He must punish sins. On judgement day if we rely on us being a good person, we would all be guilty because All of us have sinned and don't deserve to go to heaven. This means that due to our sins we are condemned to Hell. The good news is there is a way out of this punishment. God sent His son Jesus to die on the cross and take up all of our sins. It's like if you were in court for committing a crime and someone else comes and pays your fines so that you can legally be set free. All you have to do is believe in Jesus and believe that he died and rose again for your sins and you have to put your trust in Him rather than your own good deeds. Romans 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
