My dad was an amazing woodworker with a workshop that would inspire even the uninterested (love your mitre saw setup and dust collection system btw) but I didn't need to know when he was alive. Now (as an artist) I cut and make all my own substrates and floater frames and am learning on my own. Videos like this are very helpful.

I will tell you this. That dust collector is basically half a bird house with the lid being hinged and a 4 inch port on whatever side makes sense for you. Thanks for watching.
I can never get mine to match up, all cut at 45's with top and bottom the same length as well as sides the same length. I always have gaps, your tip about the saw pulling the wood may be my issue, thanks for the clear explanation.
the thing is here you have a great set up did you make that set up .... what needs figuring out is quicker stops... then you will have a great system for making frames
Is that the back of the frame you are showing to us (the camera) so your mounted picture and glass would sit in the "rabbit" but you measured the frame from the inside???
@@JeffFischer1 But in the video you are measuring not in the rabbit where the picture and glass would go, but on the inside of the front of the frame itself...???
1:27 Why set up the workpiece on the right side of blade which requires you to cross hands during the cut? Isn’t crossing hands on a mitre saw a safety no-no? I’m just a beginner but have watch a few safety videos
I am not holding the piece with just my hand only which would be a no no, but also with a wood clamp. The pressure I am putting on the work piece helps to eliminate any chatter that might occur. Thanks for watching.

yes you need a clamp there must be a quicker clamp

Standard Band Clamp but the corner pieces are shop made. I did not make my own fence.

Where do you find good picture framing wood?
In this case I used polar. Whatever you use, as long as you can get it flat straight and square, it will work. Thanks for watching.
