All our gods lyrics are very emotional as a lot of them are written by Tom Searle after he found out he was terminally ill! For him to write and record that album prior to his passing will always stand testament as a true show of spirit and mentality! Incredible
Architects 2014-2018 in a nutshell: LF//LT - Tom is diagnosed with cancer All Our Gods - Tom knows his diagnosis is terminal and his remaining time is finite; the album is essentially a window into the highest highs and lowest lows of Tom’s mind as he contemplates the meaning of life Holy Hell - band grapples to find solace and adopt a more hopeful outlook in the wake of Tom’s passing
Say whatever you want to say Colony collapse is one of the greatest metalcore songs of the past decade.... From Sam's voice -lyrics to the chorus lead riff..this song is just explosion of goosebumps
Legitimately my favorite song they've ever written. People throw the word "masterpiece" around way too often, but it accurately describes Colony Collapse
I can’t wait to see your inevitable All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us reaction that has to be coming soon. It is 100% on par with this album and is just as great. LF // LT and All Our Gods lyrics are both extremely heavy around the state of the world. That one is Tom’s last album. Released in May 2016, then Tom died in August 2016. Tom was the founding guitarist and primary songwriter of the band. He wrote the music of Doomsday on Holy Hell…or rather…it evolved from the music he wrote for a song for that album. His brother, Dan, wrote the lyrics for Doomsday following Tom’s death. It’s heavily noticed with lyrics such as “they say the good die young” and the song hits so much harder when viewing it through that lens.
Couldnt disagree more. LF//LT is their magnum opus and AOGHAU is good but it just didnt touch LF//LT imo when it came out and still hasnt. Definitely in their top 3 though.
Doomsday lyrics were partially written by Tom and later found by the band. Dan finished the lyrics. That’s why Doomsday reads like a conversation. It was. 😢❤
Their lyrics have a lot references to previous tracks. That line in Holy Hell is referring to Broken Cross: 'remember we were born to burn'. There is another one in For Those That Wish To Exist where they keep repeating 'Everything is fine' in the background of the bridge and that is a reference to These Colors Don't Run's lyrics - 'So repeat this line - everything everything is fine' And my favorite is from Damnation from Holy Hell Album where Dan refers to what Tom wrote in Gone with the Wind - 'if hope is a prison, maybe faith will set me free' That is why I love this band. Holy Hell is essentially Dan having a conversation with Tom after his death and it is the most beautiful thing
As you got into in the video, much of Holy Hell is very directly written lyrically about Tom as well as a lot of his unfinished songs and riff ideas were still used for the record. All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us is the last record that he was fully a part of, with the album releasing just a few months before he died. An important detail when listening to these old records is that Tom was the primary songwriter for the band, writing most of the music himself, as well as much of the lyrics. Whenever you get to All Our Gods I recommend paying attention to the lyrics, some of the songs are absolutely devastating, given the context of his death not too long after the album release.
I know All Our gods is cosidered their best but LF//LT is 100% to me their absolute best work both with the singles and the album as whole. This album was what defined them, and more specifically Tom as a writer. I love that Tom gifted us with this album but mourn the loss of a talent that just can't be replicated.
Yeah Craig Reynolds, he’s the drummer of Stray From The Path which is a band you should also definitely check out. Their newest record “Euthanasia” is incredible from their riffs to their groove to their lyrical content. A jam all around.
I actually think that the lyrical content kills the album. Everything else is great. Even the messages I agree with, but the delivery is either milk toast, or cringe. Just my opinion though.
Most underrated architects album easily, hollow crown lflt aoghau obviously amazing and get the recognition they deserve, daybreaker seems more forgotten even though it’s in a similar tier
One of the best albums in metalcore history and the crazy part is it’s not even their best album. Would love to see your reaction to All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us
Architects around this time were just something else, hollow crown, daybreaker, this, all our gods, all 4 are some of the best metalcore albums ever made, can’t think of another band who made so many amazing albums all one after the other near enough
The last track on All Our Gods - Memento Mori - is Tom‘s Farewell. Can‘t wait for you to hear this song. I‘ve listened to All Our Gods uncountable times in my life and this song is still hard to get through. Anyway Merry Christmas. 😊
This is my favourite video of yours so far Drew. I loved the discussion about the band and different lyrics. Fantastic vid and one of my all time fave albums
there is some lyrics that echo through their songs, take for instance, deep fake has lyrics like, “a return on the souls they sold” and then nihilist from all our gods have abandoned us has lyrics like it as well, “we sold our souls but couldn’t buy salvation”. a lot of songs have echoing lyrics, and it’s fun to figure out what song they come from. *btw, there’s a ‘for those that wish to exist’ callback in deep fake if you never realized.*
It's kinda random, but Naysay kicked the door open for me. When I heard the song for the first time 5 years ago (only listening to charts and PopPunk at that time), I was initially repulsed by the vocals but somehow fell in love. I kept coming back until I had to admit to myself: I like this shit.
This is their best album without question. Shit blew my mind when it first came out my last year of college. Their other stuff never really did anything for me, but this album is just perfect. The Distant Blue and Colony Collapse are the standouts 8 years later but when this first came out Gravedigger, Naysayer, Broken Cross were the nastiest 123 punch at the time.
i agree, especially the deluxe version, it's so underrated, outsider heart and truth be told are absolutely masterpieces and im sad they never really brought back tapping into their guitar work because that album is laced with gorgeous tapping lines, people only really know these colors don't run
I am glad that this video got popped up on my feed. Totally loved the reaction and specially loved all the little nuances that you were catching in the songs. Please do a similar reaction for All our Gods Have Abandoned Us. It has a special emotional element since this was the last feature of their primary song writer and guitarist Tom Searle who passed away a couple of months after the release of the album.
this album and all our gods does things to me man, its not that the new stuff is bad, but it doesnt fucking come close to songs like youth wasted on the young or naysayer.
What a bloody pleasure watching that! Great reaction, and analysis. Absolute banger of an album, it’s good to hear an objective opinion that agrees as I do feel I hold a lot of nostalgia for older albums. That being said I hope you get to Hollow Crown at some point, production inevitably suffers a little but I say it holds up and shows another snapshot earlier in their sounds’ development. Looking forward to you passing 500 likes 🤙🏻
Youth is wasted on the young is still my favorite architects song. Such a banger. I used to play it on repeat all the time in 2015 along with castles in the air.
This is my favourite Architects record, I know there's a lot of attachment to "All Gods" due to it being Tom's last....but for me this record is close to perfection. Just something about the riffs, breakdowns (& when/where they're used) & the vocal hooks are so memorable to me. Not to mention some of their greatest lyrical work (colony collapse is probably slept on, in this regard).
Josh Middleton is the new guitarist, yes. His work in their newer albums is pretty sub-par for what he is capable of. He fronts a band called Sylosis, where he plays lead guitar and is the frontman as well, and Sylosis’ riffs are actually god tier. You should get their 2020 Album ‘cycle of suffering’ on the poll so you can hear what he is capable of. Crushing stuff
This is where I stepped into architects. This album blew my mind to what I understood metalcore to be. I listen to this and dr. Acula avalanche around the same time nonstop. Fucking great records
This album is what made me fall in love with Architects. I bought this album and got it signed at a show in 2014 by all members (including Tom, rip). Also fun fact: all the ambience you hear on this album are done with a guitar :) You should deffo listen to All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, Tom also wrote that
Happy to see the born of a new Architects fan) +Respect what you dig into Holy Hell so much; many people criticize it, but it's my absolute fav of all time, so raw emotions here.
Nice to see a genuine opinion on an album, and while I understand the concept on getting into a band late and production quality/time affecting older material architects is the exception ALL OF OUR GOD HAVE ABANDONED US is absolute gold
LF//LT is a god tier metalcore album, the distant blue and Youth Is Wasted on the Young are my favourite tracks from the band. All our Gods is the perfect progression from this album, and most Architects fans favourite, i'll look forward to your review, but Daysbreaker (deluxe edition )has a special place for me, These Colours don't run has one of the most iconic breakdowns ever.
the way that they tune the guitars is like a 7 string lets say Drop F# ( f# c# f# a# d# g c) but without the 6th string so it ends up being (f# f# a# d# g c), its pretty cool
On your comments regarding Toms death, timeline etc. just so you know Tom was the main lyric and music writer for the band before he died, hence the big change in sound after. Toms last album he wrote was All Our Gods… A lot of the songs are VERY deep when you realise he is writing about his impending death to cancer, especially Gone With The Wind and Memento Mori. Also Dan is Toms TWIN brother and now writes the lyrics 👍🏻 Hope this helps ☺️
I’m about to hop into this video while I work on a uni assignment so I feel like I’m chillin with drew out here this album is, literally, the album that got me into metal. I remember my brother and I were into a lot of uk alt rock at the time and it was starting to get a bit old. he came into my room one day telling me I had to hear this band called architects - and I asked ‘is it some lower than atlantis type shit?’ and he responded ‘not exactly’ - he played gravedigger at full volume on his speakers and that first breakdown absolutely blew my brains out. at the time, the music was still a bit too heavy to what I was used to, but I still knew I could dig it. I dived into the record not long after and fell in love with heavy music then and there. told my mates about it at school, and a big group of us went to go see them on the all our gods tour a couple years later - while I don’t fuck with the newer stuff, I will always respect architects for getting me into this stuff - they deserve all the success they’ve had.
I had a similar experience with AOGHAU, tbf i came from Linkin Park, then Bring Me The Horizon (That's The Spirit had just come out) particularly Sempiternal and There Is A Hell a bit less. Then the video for Gravity came up on my YT and it just fucking clicked. Listened to AOGHAU in full the next day. Then LFLT a couple weeks later (i remember absolutely LOVING Red Hypergiant in particular lol) aaaand yeah. From there it all went downhill lol
You absolutely nailed why I think Youth is Wasted On The Young is such an underrated track. Tom delivers such a commanding riff, but the track is given just a moment of space to breathe before it kicks in. Cannot wait to see what you think of the next album given you liked this one so much. Gone With The Wind, Phantom Fear, All Love is Lost, and Memento Mori are definitely ones to watch out for
Lfgggg my favourite album of all time. Back when this came out I was going through a super hard time when it came to lots of different things and this album really helped me through it and changed the way I look at a lot of things. “If you were caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, would you run and hide or stand for what you believe?”
Have you heard of a very small band called Rogue? They have 3 EPs Anomaly, Aeon & Phantom. As a fellow fan of Currents & Architects trust me you’ll love them. I don’t know how they’re not bigger!
This album is, to this day, still my absolute favourite record I have ever heard! I follow Architects since their 4th record The Here & Now, so two records before this one. And when LF // LT came out and I got my preordered CD, I not only listened to it once, I listened to it three times in a row because of how good this was at that point of time! The albums before that they were imo trying to figure out which sound they want to have and with this record it just all clicked. The riffing was, as you mentioned, so ahead of its time. But in comparison to All Our Gods... or Holy Hell its way more prominent and versatile. The overall sound is just more raw but in a good way. So when All Our Gods... came out I was, at first, a bit dissapointed in that the guitars were more stripped back or kind of in the background of the music overall. But then in context to Tom Searle's state of health at that point and the lyrics it just made sense to let more room for the Sam's vocals and the ambience sounds in AOGHAU. LF // LT had so much impact on my taste of music and on my life in general (through its lyrical content) that it will just forever have a special place in my heart and I'm glad you diggin' it right away!
If I'm not mistaken, C.A.N.C.E.R. was written by Tom shortly after his cancer diagnosis. I think I read that somewhere, but I can't recall from where. That track hits me very hard and is personally my favorite on the album next to Broken Cross.
When this came out it shaped metalcore. Every band "in the scene" copied this style for the years after. That's probably why this sounds so modern. This album and All our gods have abandoned us after it have that nuances feel of desperation. Chills 8/11 songs amazing reaction you get it now xD
I've watched you reaction to All our Gods and now this, these are my two favourite albums by them, both are 5/5 to me but for different reasons. Love these guys even if their latest work isn't my cup of tea compared to their older stuff Are you considering doing reactions to their older stuff? Daybreaker, The Here and Now and Hollow Crown are all completely different in style and would do great videos I think
As similar as this album sounds, something about this album is so good and so ahead of the curve. As for colony collapse, i woke up on my 12th birthday to News of the reactor failure of the Fukushima plant. It really made me wake up to the world as a whole. The song always brings me back to that moment, as tragic and devastating as it was. P.S.- Def watch the holy ghost documentary. Its about the death of tom and the creation of holy hell
You should watch the documentary that they did behind the recording process of this album, very interesting. Is up to you if you want to do a reaction video or just watch it on your own.
You need to check out the band Sylosis. Its Architects guitarists Josh Middletons band, he does vocals and plays lead guitar and its the most hard hitting metal ive ever heard. You got to listen to “Cycle of suffering” or “Dormant Heart” albums by Sylosis.
late to your channel and this vid (love your reactions) the vocals in youth is wasted on the young are murray macleod from the band the excerts, close friends with architects 🩷
Man I need you to put some Heaven Shall Burn on your vote lists, besides that I remember when I saw them live. Probably one of the best shows I saw in my life
Re Dead Man Talking and Orwell: the song is not about the environment but about whistle-blowers who have brought to light bad things various regimes have done in the past 20 years (think Snowden). The reference to Orwell is about 1984: it tells a story of an enormous totalitarian country including all of Europe and Asia which employs mass surveillance on a huge scale. Mass surveillance which is also what Snowden uncovered in 2013 (so around the time the album was being written) which checks out. Also this wasn't Tom's last record, All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us is and it's basically got his magnum opus in the last track (Memento Mori). Which he wrote kinda knowing that his cancer was getting worse, unfortunately.
If you're going to react to All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, you should definitely watch the Live Performance of Gone with the Wind 2018 at Alexandra Palace!
Absolute god tier album. But.. and this is of course only MY opinion but after C.A.N.C.E.R the album tails off slightly; which is why it doesn't quite stand up to AOGHAU. Great reaction again too 👌🏻.
"Remember we were born to burn" is referencing Broken Cross, 100% intentional. There's a few throwbacks to older material on Holy Hell, matter of fact, after you finish All Our God's song Memento Mori, start up Death is not Defeat right afterwards.
500 Likes on this video & we’ll get to ‘All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us’ 😮💨🙌🏻
The emotion on that album is out of this world mate!! Cheers from Chile! 🇨🇱

Architects 2014-2018 in a nutshell:
LF//LT - Tom is diagnosed with cancer
All Our Gods - Tom knows his diagnosis is terminal and his remaining time is finite; the album is essentially a window into the highest highs and lowest lows of Tom’s mind as he contemplates the meaning of life
Holy Hell - band grapples to find solace and adopt a more hopeful outlook in the wake of Tom’s passing
Toms riff/song writing was untouchable

I had a similar experience with AOGHAU, tbf i came from Linkin Park, then Bring Me The Horizon (That's The Spirit had just come out) particularly Sempiternal and There Is A Hell a bit less.
Then the video for Gravity came up on my YT and it just fucking clicked. Listened to AOGHAU in full the next day. Then LFLT a couple weeks later (i remember absolutely LOVING Red Hypergiant in particular lol) aaaand yeah. From there it all went downhill lol
These colors dont run, best song best vídeo. Its like the hymn of Architects.
20:35 that's actually the original lyrics
"remember we were born to burn" was a reference to this song
You must react to "hollow crown" and "daybreaker", two goods albums
daybreaker.... Black blodd and Devil's island are legendary
I loved your interpretation of Holy Hell, it's so cool
Tears in my eyes.... This band is just pure greatness ♥
Thanks for checking it out!
You absolutely nailed why I think Youth is Wasted On The Young is such an underrated track. Tom delivers such a commanding riff, but the track is given just a moment of space to breathe before it kicks in.
Cannot wait to see what you think of the next album given you liked this one so much. Gone With The Wind, Phantom Fear, All Love is Lost, and Memento Mori are definitely ones to watch out for
The chorus guitar, idk what it is but it’s so so good, that alone makes it one of my favourites on the album tbh
Toms last album he was featured on is All Our Gods and then some songs and riffs in Holy Hell were Toms as well.
All our gods bro….. It’s so good
This album is, to this day, still my absolute favourite record I have ever heard!
I miss this version of the Architects
Love these guys even if their latest work isn't my cup of tea compared to their older stuff
Are you considering doing reactions to their older stuff? Daybreaker, The Here and Now and Hollow Crown are all completely different in style and would do great videos I think
Cannot wait for you to get to “All our Gods”… ⌚️
I can’t wait for you to hear hollow crowns riffs 😂 daybreaker is my fav album. I miss this architects
YES!!!!!!!!!! 2nd fav album by them!
Best album ever written
You gotta listen to All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us bro! One of the greatest metal albums ever!
These riffs FUCK. Point blank period. So good.
Hollow Crown. That is all.
Rest in peace, Tom❣
You need to check out the band Sylosis. Its Architects guitarists Josh Middletons band, he does vocals and plays lead guitar and its the most hard hitting metal ive ever heard. You got to listen to “Cycle of suffering” or “Dormant Heart” albums by Sylosis.
All our Gods is amazing. I'm sure you'll love it
late to your channel and this vid (love your reactions) the vocals in youth is wasted on the young are murray macleod from the band the excerts, close friends with architects 🩷
Can't wait for you to hear "all our gods have abandoned us"
This and "All our gods" is peak Architects for me.
let's get those 500 likes boys
Which he wrote kinda knowing that his cancer was getting worse, unfortunately.
castles in the air is always forgotten about :(
If you're going to react to All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, you should definitely watch the Live Performance of Gone with the Wind 2018 at Alexandra Palace!
Love this album so, so much. You should check out Ashes of the Wake by Lamb of God!!!
Personally I think this album is one of the most important metalcore albums ever made
Awesome reaction again.
Maby sometime to, Before i turn: Lovelorn
Absolute god tier album. But.. and this is of course only MY opinion but after C.A.N.C.E.R the album tails off slightly; which is why it doesn't quite stand up to AOGHAU. Great reaction again too 👌🏻.
"Remember we were born to burn" is referencing Broken Cross, 100% intentional. There's a few throwbacks to older material on Holy Hell, matter of fact, after you finish All Our God's song Memento Mori, start up Death is not Defeat right afterwards.
Now for All Our Gods... and maybe later Daybreak (love that album too, too underrated/talked about).
still today i think best guitar tone ever!!
Red Hypergiant is the best one imo...
