I think to fully appreciate this album you have to first understand the backstory behind it and be familiar with the previous albums. It’s essentially the bands expression of grief after Toms passing, there is a lot of call backs to ‘All our Gods’ which is essentially Toms musical goodbye.
Lost Forever//Lost Together and All our Gods are peak Architects IMO, if you are going to listen, i'd start with LF//LT then All our Gods to hear the progression between the albums. Both are masterpieces.
Definitely becoming one of my favourite "reactors" mainly due to the honest opinions, although, Architects are one of those bands for me that any bad word against them is like a knife in the heart 😂. I have to ask though, Drew, seeing a lot of your reactions, like where have you been? Living under a rock? You seem to have been snapped away by Thanos for 2 decades and missed loads of music (in this Genre). If that's the case some highlight albums have to be; Hollow Crown by Architects, Horizons by Parkway Drive, Matriarch by Veil of Maya, When the End Began by Silent Planet and VIA by Volumes just name a very tiny few.

It's funny, I'm watching this right now, you're in the Holy Hell song reaction and you instantly thought it's the best of the songs till that time stamp. What's funny is that song and Doomsday were the last ones and the only ones on the album that were written by Tom before he died. I don't comment on yt at all, but I watch your journey as you find out about all these metalcore/djent/thall albums and it's really fun. Lost forever//Lost together and All Our Gods have abandoned us are the albums that shaped modern metalcore. The Holy Hell album seems like something you've heard before. If you listen to the other two that I mentioned, it will probably seem like that too(or may not). My point being that Architects leaned themselves into the atmospheric metalcore spectrum before all these bands. I personally haven't heard of a metalcore band after Lost Forever//Lost together that didn't incorporate these "technical tapping open note riffs" or the atmospheric backgrounds. Northlane(they named their band of the Architects song North Lane, that's how they started), Polaris, Currents, Erra, Wage War etc. Not to say there is not evolution, in these bands, everyone progresses, but what I'm stating is that the more you dig into their previous albums, the more you'll find a samey sound. Tom was an incredibly unique guitar player for me, I would blast his two last albums and then one day I hear the news. I mention this to justify the weight of the lyrics. If you listen to all our gods, you'll face a whole bunch of dark themes and that's because they come from a man that deals with cancer. Shit I almost wrote an essay, I just got emotional because you reminded me the first time I listened to Architects about 10 years ago in high school. Rock on! Edit: That's why Doomsday feels repetitive haha, Tom wrote the riff and he died before turning it into a song.
Sam does all the vocals in architects the only times where there is other vocals are on the newest albums so for those that wish to exist and the next one with josh middleton screaming sometimes and adam doing backing but otherwise sam is doing all the screams and the cleans it s just that his voice is more pure I would say on the previous records than on the new ones
@@Greenignitor Yea true but like it's features from other vocalists of other bands if I am not mistaken but on the all vocals (from the members of the band) Sam did almost everything
I felt similar when the album came out but it grew on me over time, still I felt like it was a bit lackluster in comparison to their previous album "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us" which to this day is my all time favorite. To be fair it was their first attempt at writing music after their songwriter and guitarist passed away... RIP Tom Searle... and keeping that in my mind I thought it was a great album. Great reaction. The lyrics on this album are really special imo. Lots of emotion and grief can be heard in Sam’s singing after the loss of Tom. I really enjoy the use of “Hope is a prison” on the track Damnation as this is a throwback and tie into Gone With the Wind from AOGHAU. Lots of talk about his process of dealing with cancer. Keep up the great videos. Hope you do a reaction to AOGHAU.
I believe this album was a great introduction (at least to me) to the metal genre; been meaning to discover and widen my music taste and my friend shared this album and I was blown away by how much I liked. Artwork at its finest.
You gotta listen to All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, and Lost Forever//Lost Together by Architects. Those 2 albums set the blueprints for what Modern Metalcore would end up being. Please take a listen to those 2 albums
Fun fact, the title track (Holy Hell) + Damnation were mostly written by Tom (their olf guitarist that died in 2016, rip), the rest of the album is mostly written by Josh + Dan (with some snippets of Tom riffs)
Holy Hell and Seventh Circle were the two finished as instrumentals before Tom died (and you can really tell from thier ferocity imo). And parts of Doomsday.
I found this band last year, immediately got hooked on most of their songs. 🤟🏼 It’s okay to not like every single track. I’m glad you’re always honest about your opinion of the songs! One can’t love everything. Great reaction anyways! Hope you’ll have a great rest of the day! 🥰
As you said, but to expand, Architects basically spawned this whole djent-core wave (tapping/technical melodic riffs with chugs in-between) between Daybreaker (2012) and Lost Forever Lost Together (2014), mostly with the latter. They're pretty much the forefathers, or rather Tom is the forefather, of that riffing style which is now used by Erra, Invent Animate, Spiritbox in the more complex tracks and A LOT of other modern metalcore bands. In fact, this sub-style of metalcore is called Architects-core by some people and it has spread itself so much that there definitely are some boring examples of it being used with a distinct lack of creativity. Main song that comes to mind for me is Low by Wage War which sounds very similar to Doomsday from this album (the main riff) Edit: yes, ambientalism is a huge topic for them. One of their best songs imo is Colony Collapse which is about the Fukushima disaster (i mean i'm pro-nuclear but it's a great song lol). Also Deathwish is clearly about global warming.
@@xeqtioner0660 i wouldn't call Impulse modern metalcore or Architects-core though. It was more in the vein of "classic" djent with the distinct (constant) chugs, also used by bands like After The Burial, Northlane pre-Singularity, The Contortionist pre-Language, Structures and most likely some others which i can't think of rn. It was almost more influenced by math rock than djent. Architects kind of streamlined and simplified certain elements creating a more accessible but creative (and still somewhat technical) sound that was then copied by, like, half the scene
This is a great album though not their best which says a lot. It just has no bad songs in it. For me 8.5/10. This was their first album after their main guitarist and song writer Tom Searle sadly passed away. Their music haven't been as techincal or complex since. That being said you should definately check out "Lost Forever//Lost Together" which is one of/if not the best metalcore album ever. "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us" is just as good.
Loved to see your perspective on this one. It's interesting to see the comparisons with Erra because Architects (alongside BMTH, which is fitting since Sam and Ollie are BFFs) influenced a lot of the 2010's metalcore scene. But that aside, I think this album is very contextual because it came out after the passing of their guitarist Tom Searle. So this had a huge impact on their sound, approaching it in a more emotional way than previous records (not that they haven't done that before, but it's way more noticeable here), and it is also a culmination of the two past albums before moving on to a new sound. I would recommend checking out "Lost Forever//Lost Together" and "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us", which I think are their best albums to date.
I didn't see the poll, but I'm genuinely surprised that All Our God's Have Abandoned Us wasn't chosen. Holy Hell is the bands artistic expression of their emotions following Tom's passing, but AOGHAU was written primarily by Tom during his darkest moments prior to his passing. Gone With The Wind is an incredibly heartbreaking song
They are absolutely filthy albums. The amount of times Drew would drop to the floor not remembering his headphones are plugged in would be absolutely insane...
@@8JFJK8 its a song that got me into architects.. its legendary, the intro, the screams, the cleans, the video, everything; still probably the top 3 architects songs for me along with royal beggars and hereafter... These gems have something undescribable in them

This album brings me back to such a good time in my life. High school senior year. I remember listening to the song holy hell the morning it came out while driving to school. Architects had such a huge influence on me back then
This album is fantastic and I love, however, like the rest of the comments say: All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us is a masterpiece. Now that you have some context with newer Architects like For Those That Wish To Exist, and this album Holy Hell which kinda began the transition to the newer sound but still has lots of the old elements in it, you need to listen to #1 with All Our Gods. Based off your preferences having watched a few of your album reactions, you probably wont like anything like Hollow Crown or earlier.
I would love you to come back to this album and listen to it in context, now you’ve been through All Our Gods. Listen to Doomsday and read the lyrics from Dans perspective. Hits so hard
Great reaction 🙌🏻 Agreeing with most comments below - all their albums are good. Lost Forever // Lost Together if pushed to an objective best but Hollow Crown will always hold the most nostalgic place. All worth checking out, I feel the influence on the scene is more clear further back.
I love doomsday, but I definitely feel like context is a big part of the love for that song. It was the very first thing they released after Tom passed, and the lyrics are very, *very* topical. Would definitely recommend listening to All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us though
You could consider City State - Equinox if you will have some time in the future; you look like the guy that might enjoy it, given your taste... A lesser known band with very unpredictable song structures and lots of meaningful lyrics and excellent breakdowns
LF//LT is chock a block of awesome riffs, themes & lyrics. If you wanna venture back a little further than 2014 I'd recommend eventually checking out the track "These Colours Don't Run" for some real lyrics...or just the whole Daybreaker album. 🤘😂😂
Lost Forever // Lost Together and All Our God's Have Abandoned Us are even better than this and legendary albums as far as metalcore goes. Definitely need to do them soon my man.
Damn I haven't heard this album in so long. I thought we were listening to northlane at some points. In ways Sam and Marcus sound kinda similar. Anyways I love both bands and this album is Quintessential to modern metalcore
Listen to The Callous Daoboys - Celebrity Therapist or The Armed - Ultrapop if you want more modern and unique heavy albums. Can be very hard to get into tho
This is probably just my perspective so take it with a grain of salt. While I enjoy the fuck out Sam's voice and all the catchy riffs, that's not Architects main draw for me. I was just getting sober when i first heard Doomsday and the lyrics and delivery absolutely blew me away so i dug in deeper and this album in particular, for me, lyrically is a masterpiece. The overarching themes of grief, loss, soul searching, "one foot in front of the other" mentality just touch me in my soul. Several of their lyrics have brought me to tears multiple times "the embers still glow when I'm sober, the gold in the flames burn brighter now" that's some real shit and a perspective i would have just glossed over prior to sobriety. I'm probably ascribing meaning to the songs that just narratively fit for me but i guess that's the beauty of music lol not that it matters but Hereafter, Holy Hell, Death is not Defeat, Doomsday, Mortal After All, and Wasted Hymn for me are top tier Architects. I enjoyed the review 🤙
The thing is you have been spoiled because pretty much bands like thorn hill Currents erra ect have gotten ideas of there sound of architects. But I would suggest go back through catalog and you see how they have influenced the metal scene.
Yeah exactly. I was lucky enough to get into Architects in early 2017 which is basically when the style ("Architects-core") was just starting to really gain traction, so i managed to live both eras lol. LFLT and AOGHAU are incredible, but so are albums like TDP (i love Heroine as well but it's not Architects-influenced) and TPIFS
I agree. Architects are the gateway/foundation and the newer bands have really honed the sound and took it to new places. I used to be a massive architects fan but don’t listen as much anymore - not because of their direction since Holy Hell, but because the newer bands are going to new heights with their instrumentation. It's also why I don't agree with the people who think architects fell off and "should make albums exactly like the old ones", it was the right career choice to go more mainstream because they'd not be able to make metalcore albums as good as the new kids on the block. They've had their golden era in which they made groundbreaking albums that helped paved the way!
All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us is my favourite album of theirs but this one comes a close 2nd. I wish they were still making music like this, not a fan of the current basic riffs and radio rock.
My guy, All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us will blow you away. They’ve been on a steady decline since that album, which happens to be the last album that Tom was with the band. You’ve heard stadium rock Architects… you deserve to know their true form lol
Modern Misery is such an odd song, because you can clearly tell that Tom wanted it to be an environmental song, but only got the lyrics for the verses done. All throughout the album, you can see parts that are definitely Tom's work, but then there's everything else
I haven’t listened to any albums before this one, they’ve just gotten away from me for some reason, and it isn’t musically technical or anything but since it’s following the death of Tom searle you can literally feel the raw emotion in every track and that’s what makes this album on of my favorite metal core releases in recent years
Mate you need to listen to all our gods have abandoned us, the story nd lyrical content are absolutely incredible do a little research..and the closing track is probably the best in metalcore
Their new sounds is more Industrial and less technical, it's a different approach for a bigger audience. Holy hell and All gods have abandonned us are peak architects IMO slappy blegh metalcore
I love for thos that wish to exist just as much, just different style. Think it just gets boring for the drummer for example, cause its less elaborated :/
Lol I honestly never understood the hype about the track “Doomsday”. Its honestly super mid. Like even in 2018 i could never understand the hype about this song, its Architects #1 listened to song idk how. Im so perplexed. Can someone explain what is so good about it?
Modern architects definitely sounds way more plain from the perspective of someone who has listened to them for a long time which is why it doesnt resonate with us as much. The beauty and technicality that we grew to love sort of fell off after this album. Modern architects embraced the more traditional song structure and sort of industrial metal vibe which is not something any of us saw coming aside from the catchy riffs.
Sometimes a little more lyrical analysis is needed, not only musical, as in Modern Misery. Even more so in bands like Architects. For example in "Royal Beggars" along with his video. Only opinion. I'm sorry for my English. Take a look at All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us
This album has grown on me massively since first listen, take all comments with a pinch of salt 🫡

You need to react to Aviana -Corporation when it comes out tomorrow 30.9.2022, it's the best fucking modern metalcore there is!!
Great and honest reaction. All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us is their best work hands down, you might want to give it a listen 👌
Surprised that Patreon opted for Holy Hell over All Our Gods but still excited to watch your reaction!
Gotta throw a dislike sir. You called Doomsday very shouty. lmao!
This is my favorite album from these guys and the only one I own on vinyl
Me suggests: Imminence - Heaven in Hiding.
Me thinks You'll love it.
Cheers.
Check “ All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us” my favorite album of all time
AOGHAU, Lost forever and Daybreaker are also fantastic
Check out their earlier stuff. Gravedigger and early grave are my favs
And castles in the air
Lost Forever // Lost Together and All Our God's Have Abandoned Us are even better than this and legendary albums as far as metalcore goes.
Definitely need to do them soon my man.
Damn I haven't heard this album in so long. I thought we were listening to northlane at some points. In ways Sam and Marcus sound kinda similar. Anyways I love both bands and this album is Quintessential to modern metalcore
Listen to The Callous Daoboys - Celebrity Therapist or The Armed - Ultrapop if you want more modern and unique heavy albums. Can be very hard to get into tho
Speaking of ERRA check out pre JT era (no pun intended) of Augment, you’d LOVE it
Daaaaaamn that hurst, but I apreciate your sincerity
You should listen to Veil of Maya, False Idol is my favourite album from them
The thing is you have been spoiled because pretty much bands like thorn hill Currents erra ect have gotten ideas of there sound of architects.
All our Gods have abandoned us is my favorite album by them, but to me; Gravedigger is the best song they have written. Song just slaaaaaps
My guy, All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us will blow you away. They’ve been on a steady decline since that album, which happens to be the last album that Tom was with the band. You’ve heard stadium rock Architects… you deserve to know their true form lol
Architects created Doomsdaycore
this album slaps
damnation is so underrated!
Modern Misery is such an odd song, because you can clearly tell that Tom wanted it to be an environmental song, but only got the lyrics for the verses done. All throughout the album, you can see parts that are definitely Tom's work, but then there's everything else
you should react to New Normal by Archers for heavy melodic riffage
Doomsday is the best one heartbreaking song 💔
I haven’t listened to any albums before this one, they’ve just gotten away from me for some reason, and it isn’t musically technical or anything but since it’s following the death of Tom searle you can literally feel the raw emotion in every track and that’s what makes this album on of my favorite metal core releases in recent years
Mate you need to listen to all our gods have abandoned us, the story nd lyrical content are absolutely incredible do a little research..and the closing track is probably the best in metalcore
Brother, if you’re only experience with Architects is their latest singles, then you have NO idea what Architects really sounds like…
Their new sounds is more Industrial and less technical, it's a different approach for a bigger audience. Holy hell and All gods have abandonned us are peak architects IMO slappy blegh metalcore
Am I the only one hearing "Bad Almonds" instead of "Bad Omens" ? XD
I love for thos that wish to exist just as much, just different style. Think it just gets boring for the drummer for example, cause its less elaborated :/
funny how you describe the music repetitive after listening to vildhjarta ;P
Daybreaker is the album brotha
Architects is one of those bands with a loud fan base. I can only take so much of Sam's vocals before I just have to skip
Lol I honestly never understood the hype about the track “Doomsday”. Its honestly super mid. Like even in 2018 i could never understand the hype about this song, its Architects #1 listened to song idk how. Im so perplexed. Can someone explain what is so good about it?
It was my first introduction to metalcore.I think it is very catchy and easy to listen to for non-metal listeners too.
Same, it was the first metalcore song I've ever liked
@@benedekistvan2655 Yeah i guess maybe it sounds good to a metalcore newbie. I just never found the chorus or instrumental that catchy.
@@benedekistvan2655 yea true
Please do the older stuff as a review/reaction. Totally different without tom. One of on fav writers when he was with us.
A soft 6 for me
Modern architects definitely sounds way more plain from the perspective of someone who has listened to them for a long time which is why it doesnt resonate with us as much.
Take a look at All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us
Bleugh
Metalcore in general just doesn't have the staying power for me anymore. I do like this album but I haven't listened to it in years.
The last good Architects album
Actually Erra copied Architects because Most modern metalcore is based of the Doomsday riff.
I think you mean they were inspired by architects, not copied. If you really think they are copying I'd love to know why though
@@conjure4585 I’m not shitting on them when I say it, but most modern metalcore bands use riffs that are just recycled versions of the Doomsday riff.
I never said anyone copied anyone man, I specifically addressed this in the video…😂
